Apple IIgs(a blast from the past) help needed!!

     I know your suppose to let go of older tech, but it's kinda hard to when it brings back fond memories. I bought my Apple IIgs back in the late to mid 1980's & it's been one of the most durable computers I have had with the exception of my MacBook Pro Laptop that I have had about 4 years. For over 20 years this Apple IIgs has run without a problem. So, here is what I have & my problem/question.
     I have a Woz Limited Edition Apple IIgs with a Internal 100MB hard drive. As I have 200+ games & other programs for this computer it brings me back to pleasant times. Over the last 5 or so years I've used it less & two days ago it would boot. Is there anyone I can take it to close to Jackson, Tn to see if it's fixable?
     I took the cover off & on the side of the 100MB internal hard drive there is a pop out tray with two fuses which are good. The hard drive was easily removed & upon removal I noticed a small sound like a piece had come loose inside the hard drive housing. Upon opening the top of the housing(top side where the fan is) sure enough a small piece had came unsaurtered.
     I have considered resaurdering(word spelled wrong) the small part to the board myself as it looks like it controls the fan or is fan related, but am trying to find somewhere to take this to be looked at.
     It has been one good computer & would rather not trash it. Any help would be apprieated as am seeking somewhere that gives me the best chance to fix the problem. I figured Apples dissucision group would be my best bet on a answer.

Have no fear; your IIgs is imminently fixable. Finding someone local may be a challenge, but you could start with looking for an Apple users group near you:

Knowing the make and model of the hard drive (was it a Vulcan?) would be helpful, as would clear pictures of the situation you describe.

HT1657 Rentals will not delete from my iPad - Help needed - please

I tried downloading 4 movies before a trip - 2 were successfully downloaded. The other 2 were not. So once I reached my destination and hooked up with the wifi I attempted to down load again only to be told that I do not have room. So I bought more storage only to see that the movies still will not compltely download. When I returned from my trip I plugged my iPad into my computer thinking, surely this will either get it down loaded or cleaned out of my iPad, but nope they are not showing up as a rental purchase and I still cant get the movies to download they are stuck at "Processing" about about 95% shown on the download bar. Anyone know how to fix this? Because of this problem I cant download any other thing to my iPad and I am getting super frustrated. Oh I did a hard shut down aslo... PLEASE HELP!!

After searching and searcing I found that a suggestion to:
setting > general > reset > reset location and privacy
it worked...
i just had to reinstall the app from the app store.

Launching Browser From Swing Application - Help Needed

Upgrade to Tiger again on duplicate from backup Timely help needed.

Hi I was having problems with my Mac so I upgraded my internal drive.
I'm having the same problems again.
When repairing the disk report says invalid leaf ount should be 2481 instead of 657.
Also report says 1 HSF disk was repaired but one disk couldn't be repaired, I only have one internal drive.
So I archived & install again from by install disk but now i'm back to 10.3
My email have all gone but I am recieving mail & my accounts are all there.
My browsers & Skype are not working nor Superduper which is what I used to duplicate my drive before archiving.
Now I'm wondering whether to upgrade to Tiger again using the upgrade disk & not mind loosing my mail as it's on Gmail. Or whether to duplicate my drive back again from the backup & get my mail back.
Or if I need to do an erase & install at this point.
Any suggestions?
I also have a Leopard upgrade disk that I haven't used yet but was thinking to not add too many variables & stick to Tiger for now.

No. If you have a recent clone, that will suffice.
So erase & install from the original install disk to 10.3 that archive & install to Leopard?
Actually, you can boot from the Leopard disk to do this. Here's how:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger and later) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
• Click on Options button
• Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
• Click OK
• Select number of partitions in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
• Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
• Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
• Click Partition/Apply button at bottom of panel.
• Select Erase tab
• Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
• Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
• Click Erase button
• Quit Disk Utility.
Once your HDD is clean you are ready to install Leopard. You are still booted from the Leopard disk, so start here:

Wanna work on my web from different Macs, so I followed the guide line to copy out the "domain" file from my company's machine then move it home. After working with my Mac at home, I tried to publish it to Mobileme.
But I found counter I put on the front page isn't working anymore, so does anyone here knows how to solve it?

Also, test your site to ensure that the files are being uploaded. Try selecting ftp to a folder option in iWeb instead of ftp to MobileMe and open your site on your desktop to see if the hit counter shows up there.

Are there LabVIEW programs written for electrophysiology?

I'm trying to set-up an electrophysiology experiment, and I need a data aqcuisition program for my patch clamp amplifier. I've reviewed the existing software applications (pCLAMP, CellWorks, Pulse/Patchmaster), but, since LabView is used fairly extensively in our lab I was wondering if there are any existingprograms/VIs written in LabView for data acq in an electrophysiology set-up. I see that NI had something called BioBench for a while, but that they've discontinued it as of April 2009. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't really want to spend a lot of time developing something on my own, especially if there's something already available.

Hi Chris,
A number of people out there have developed LabVIEW applications for doing electrophysiology. If you Google "LabVIEW electrophysiology" or "LabVIEW patch clamp" you'll find some stuff.

You can probably contact this person and get them to send you the source code (they say its "free").
Depending on what you are actually trying to accomplish, it may be possible to start with a simple LabVIEW example program and expand from there as your needs develop. Are you needing a "scope" like program that capture relatively fast waveforms based on some kind of trigger condition (stimulus/response) or continuous acquisition of spontaneous activity? We also have an application called "Signal Express" which can you started very quickly and can be easily customized to do on-line processing - worth taking a look at: http://www.ni.com/signalexpress/whatis.htm

I need help with motion control. I am programming in Visual Basic. I will need help with what parts I need to purchase from NI, along with help on the code.

I am using a Papst servo motor and I need to know where to start and what to purchase to get this motor to spin. I am using visual basic and in my program I calculate the direction and RPM's needed from the motor. It will spin anywhere from 1 to 10000 RPM's. It seems rather easy, but I have no idea on how to spin the motor at the specific RPM, and stop it with a command stop in the program. Please help.

We really should know a little more about your intended uses for this system, but assuming you want to do relatively simple (or even not so simple!) motion, you'll need a few components...
A motion controller, such as the PCI-7342, can take your VB commands and turn them into the commands needed to "run" the motor. Next you'll need a drive, such as the MID-7342. This includes the servo amplifier that actually powers the motor. It also has connections to "pass through" the encoder signals from the motor back to the motion controller.
The above-named pieces assume one or two axes of motion. You'll also need a cable to connect the two (can't remember the model right now). You can use MAX to configure the motion controller, and there are just a few VB calls you
'll need to make using NI-Motion functions to define the motion and get it going.

How to get a signal from the serial port to start a labview program?

I need to synchronize the data obtained from a program (which is not in Labview)with the data collected with Labview on a different computer. I can send some data strings to the serial port of the computer running the Labview program when the other program starts. However, I need to be able to read the trigger in my Labview program. Do you know what I should do? Thanks.

If you don't have any other programs listening on the COM port, you need to let a LV program run BEFORE the signal comes, otherwise you won't be able to read it. You can have the program wait in a slow timed loop so that it doesn't use up too much CPU time, and when the required "trigger" comes, to move into the main part of the program.
You basically need a while loop waiting for a certain string in the serial buffer. Once the string is found the while loop is exited, and the data acqquisition or whatever else you require from the progam can be performed.
In the example attached the program wait for ANY text to be sent to the COM port. Please note that you need to configure the VISA resource before using it. Once there is something at the COM port, the loop will exit and the rest of the program will be executed.

LabVIEW Program not running if i lock my PC (using an EXE made from LabVIEW)

Hi everyone
I observed some odd behavior when I was running my program on a PC. I prepared an EXE for a LabVIEW program, this am running on another PC. Purpose of the program is to read a text file and follow the command given in that text document, we are accessing parallel port, calling third party EXEs in this. It is not running when I minimize the window or lock the PC. Do we have any property in VI properties for this?
Please help me in this.

Hi Anil,
Minimizing the application or locking Windows should not stop the executable from running. Can you reproduce this behavior on the development PC? Also try to create an executable with a simple VI that counts the number of iteration and check for this behavior ?

Desperate user need help. My GPIB instrument get stuck with my labview program frequently

Hello to all labview users,
i am a beginner in using labview. I am currently writting a labview program to automatically control a digital control rotator HD201e and a network analyzer 8720a to work with the anechoic chamber. The program receives an initial position, amount of increment and # of steps. My program will then ask the controller to rotate to the initial position and at the meantime, the program will monitor the position of the rotator to ensure the requested position is reached. After that, at the position, the program will ask the NA to perform a reading of the measurement. Once the reading is done, the program will ask the controller to rotate to the next position and does a reading of the measurement and so on.
My program seems to be able to perform the tasks; however, the dig.controller part seems to get stuck around 50% of the time when running the program. Sometimes, even the controller receives the requested position (can be seen from the lcd screen of the controller), the rotator just simply would not rotate; also, sometimes, the controller just simply does not respond when sending the command of moving a position, as in the debug mode (the one with a lightbulb), i see that i got "ok" on all the blocks in the writing portion ofthe program, but the controller just doesnt seem to receive the position (as seen no new position received from the lcd screen) and the cursor on the lcd screen blinks weirdly, due to that problem, my program will then get stuck in an infinite loop.....
Usually, that problem occurs after few positions have been reached.....
so, when that happens, i have to stop my program and re-run it. that means the program will have to re-do the measurement that were read previously....
sometimes i have to stop and re-run my program several times to get all the measurement of all the positions done.....so...that bug renders that program to be an unefficient program.
I have been trying to resolve that bug for weeks...but no success....i have tried to put some wait time between each block....result is not much different...
I have also tried putting "clear" block before and after the "write" block.....same problem.....
I have heard that the serial GPIB "flush" block may help...but i tried..but it seems the controller doesnt recognize/accept flush....
i have also tried using the "Visa open" and "Visa close" block to see if ithat reduces the stucking thing....but seems that the controller can still get stuck....
i have also even tried using "lock asyn" and "unlock asyn" block...but didnt seem to work....
Has anyone experienced such problem.? Is it a known problem with some gpib instrument?
Is there any discrepancy or bugs in my program that i am unaware of that causes this problem?
Any advice and or opinion would be greatly appreciated....

i got what you meant about the gpib reference
actually, that final frame works because the gpib reference is already done inside that subvi.
but my problem doesnt arise from that. most of the time ive seen, it arises between the writing frame and the while loop frame. as i mentionned, sometimes. the controller just simply doesnt rotate even i can see the requested position display on the controller lcd screen; also sometimes, just the controller is stuck without acknowledging the write position command. but in labview...while in debug mode. it is shown ok on the block.

Can Labview Programs run from the Windows System Tray?

Does anyone know if Labview Runtime executables can be run in the Windows System tray? Any help would be appreciated.
I'm creating a program that I want to run in the background, not visible on the desktop or taskbar.

N80 programs vanished from menus - please HELP!

Hello people!
Let me describe the problem.
I have a N80 phone, and a couple of days I came back home later than usual and noticed that the battery was discharged, causing the phone to turn off (not something unusual, as I allow my phone to completely drain the battery from time to time). I connected the charger and turned it on.
While checking, something seemed odd, and entering the menu after the boot I was shocked: most of my programs were gone from the menu without a trace, and the ones that were left just wouldn't start when trying to run them. Even the apps management tool which uninstalls programs couldn't locate the missing apps. All of my programs were stored on my memory card.
Now, I wouldn't be bothered about games too much, but it seemed that all my time management programs, which store crucial data, are gone as well.
I tried everything there is to try:
-restoring an old backup
-re-updating my phone's firmware then restoring an old backup
-hard-resetting the phone
-scanning and defragmenting my memory card using a card reader
No luck.
I tried checking how much free space I have on my memory card, and there wasn't a difference, so I'm guessing my programs are STILL THERE, wierdly my N80 just can't locate/access them.
Please help me, suggest anything or tell me how to fix this situation. I'd be grateful!

I had my X-plore to do just that, and I've installed Y-Browser following your advice.
Still, I have no idea what to look for or where. As I know, the 9.1 system is hidden as opposed to 7.0 where I could simply navigate to e:/system/apps/programname and execute my desired program. Only with a card reader I've been able to see what the phone doesn't show, and still I have no idea what I should be looking for trying to fix this situation.

Help! Can't open Labview program with MATLAB codes !!!

They used to work! But today I just can't open any LabView program with MATLAB codes in. This also happened some time ago, but after a day I tried again, it went back to normal. Can anyone help me fix it? Many thanks !!!

Thank you for your inquiry regarding problems opening a VI. It sounds like a VI containing MATLAB code will not open in LabVIEW. This problem can happen when using LabVIEW 7 on a Windows 2000 machine. Assuming this is your setup, the following link is a great resource when dealing with this issue.
