Labview Realtime IP assign and making install disk...

Hello...
1. How can I assign a static IP address to Realtime Target without using MAX and a host machine?
2. I want to prepare a real time target install disk for end user. Is there a way to make an install disk for real time target? How can I install my program wihtout deploy it from Labview?
Thanks...

It sounds like you want the system replication tools.  Here is a link for that:

You will still need to have the LabVIEW runtime engine I believe.  I also don't really understand what you mean by not having a host machine?  How exactly would you like to transfer data to the real-time target?

• Help!  Why is Macbook not starting, making clicking sounds, and rejecting install disk??

I was working on my Macbook (OS 10.4.11) when the screen froze.  I forced a shutdown.  When I try to power it up again, I get a blank screen (not sure if gray or blue; looks sort of in between) and hear clicking noises. Eventually, a flashing question mark appears.
I found a post on this problem that said the hard drive was looking for instructions to start up (hence the clicking noises) and an Apple article about possible solutions, <http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1440>, but none of the steps worked.
I then booted up again, inserted Install Disk 1 for Tiger, and forced a shutdown again so that I could boot up with "C" held down see if I could solve the problem from the Uilities menu on the Install Disk.  However, when I pressed the power button to start up again, the computer just spit out the Install Disk (even with "C" held down).
Can anyone tell me (1) what the problem seems to be with the computer and/or the CD drive; (2) whether a low-tech type like me might be able to fix it if I can get the Install Disk to run, or whether I just have to take it to my local Mac shop?  The computer is no longer under warranty, so getting it repaired will probably be expensive.
Thanks so much for any good advice out there!

• Labview realtime desktop PC : unable to install software

I have a Labview realtime desktop PC which was running OK until this afternoon.
I tried to use the Realtime System Replication.  It wasnt able to copy my config because my app was too heavy and ftp was sloooow.
I used ftp to delete my app from the target PC.
From this point I wasn't able to work with the target PC.
At boot time I've got this message:
...Transferring control to user program.
...Labview RealTime desktop PC boot loader
...Copyright …
...Searching hd for boot program .. not found.
...Using safe mode program
...Init network
...Device 1 … MAC .. IP
System State : No software installed
When I try to maintain the system via measurement explorer, I'm able to modify the network configuration and to reboot the target.
Measurement explorer displays "Connected - no software installed" in the status bar (as a matter of fact it displays "Connecte - aucun logiciel installe", I'm using a french version). If I try to install software with the dedicated button ("Add/remove software" I guess) I get a message box displaying an error 59
Thanks in advance
Nicolas

Nicolas,
Is it possible you inadvertently removed a required file when you FTP'd to the target? I get the impression that the host no longer knows what is installed on the target nor can it repair it.
Within MAX you can create an Uninstall Disk (option 1) or a Format Disk (option 2). Neither are desirable options, granted, but if the Add/Remove software option throws an error, then I suspect your target has been corrupted. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can translate your specific error code....

• I want to sell my iMac G4 and the install disk doesn't work. What do I do?

I want to sell or give away my iMac G4 but the install disk won't run. I've formatted the drive and installed Panther from disks I bought when it first came out. I've installed them it to the point at which the animation comes up and you are asked to personalise the machine and create an account. I thought I'd leave that for the new owner so that it is truly his machine. What happens when he connects to the internet and it asks him to register with Apple? Can he use the OS if he hasn't got my Apple ID?
Or is there another way round this?
It's a lovely old machine and I would like to see it continuing to be used rather than going to landfill.

Thanks Klaus,
It's a long time since I installed a new OS but I thought you had to go through registration before it would work. You certainly have to supply your name and address, and then it prompts you to register. Will it let you skip that step?
If the new owner can do that, why would he need the install disks? And how do I get through to the right person at Apple?

• Screen with folder and "?" on startup. No install disks.

Saturday I dropped my Macbook Pro 8,1 and afterwards it was working completed fine. A day later I was working on PowerPoint and it froze (which isn't very unusual) so I re-started it. After re-starting I got a blank screen with a folder and a "?" From my understanding I need my install disk which unfortunately is a 3 hour drive from me at the moment.
The one thing that I do have is my external hard-drive that I've used Time Machine on before to back-up my Macbook. Unfortunately I hadn't backed up my latop very recently and I have important files on my Macbook that aren't on my external hard drive, so I don't want to restore my Macbook back to whatever was on the hardrive. So my questions are:
Is the any way the hardrive can be used in place of the install disk? If not, can I buy and download install disk online and but on flash drive?
Will fixing my problem result in all the files on my Macbook being lost?
Note: when I turn on my macbook using the hardrive I can get into disk utilities. However, when going into "First Aid", I am unable to select "Repair Disk"

If it had 10.6 from the factory, it's a Early 20011 13", and yes you need the 10.6.7 gray/black machine specific install disks (call Apple if they are defective), the 10.6.3 white ones from Apple online retail store won't work.
If it had 10.7 from the factory, it's a Late 2011 13", there is no disks, Internet Recovery and Recovery HD (on a bootable partition)
After re-starting I got a blank screen with a folder and a "?"
Firmware doesn't know where the boot volume is, may be a easy fix.
Folder with question mark issue
From my understanding I need my install disk which unfortunately is a 3 hour drive from me at the moment.
If disks came in the box, then it's a Early 2011 with Snow Leopard, unless you upgraded to 10.7 or later, which you use Recovery HD or Internet Recovery instead, unless your going to restore the machine back to Snow Leopard. (many do)
The one thing that I do have is my external hard-drive that I've used Time Machine on before to back-up my Macbook. Unfortunately I hadn't backed up my latop very recently...
If you haven't backed up TM since dropping the machine, that's a good thing because it sounds like the boot hard drive is corrupted and may not restore properly or at all if the TM drive copied that junk over.
I have important files on my Macbook that aren't on my external hard drive, so I don't want to restore my Macbook back to whatever was on the hardrive.
First try the easy mehod by holding the option/alt key down at boot time and seeing if you can boot OS X, then head to System Preferences > Startup Disk and set it again, this will tell the firmware.
Once your in, backup all your users files to a external drive, (not TimeMachine) and disconnect. You might have to do it in small bunches because there could be damage to the platters were the heads struck when you dropped it.
If you can't boot OS X, then use this method
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
If you can't even do that as the machine is broken
My computer is not working, is my personal data lost?
Melanie443 wrote:
Will fixing my problem result in all the files on my Macbook being lost?
Yes if you don't do data recovery first or the drive is actually mechanically dead.
Fixing your problem may be easy, doing a zero bit erase on the entire Macintosh HD partition or drive (for 10.6) may map off the bad/damaged sectors and thus you can keep using the machine.
You can install 10.6/10.7 and then restore from TimeMachine (if not defective) and return the copies of your recovered files from the external drive.
Note: when I turn on my macbook using the hardrive I can get into disk utilities. However, when going into "First Aid", I am unable to select "Repair Disk"
To repair disk you need to do so while c or option/alt key booted from the 10.6 disk or the 10.7/10.8 Recovery HD partition or via Internet Recovery, that's why it's grayed out.
Don't do this until you have recovered your files first, as you don't want Disk Utility knowing the drive has problems and then lock you out on the next reboot.
Don't do Safe Mode either yet as this forces a fsck drive check and also lock you out from a easy recovery of your files.
Once you've got your files off the machine to a external storage drive (don't trust TimeMachine) then you can do whatever.

• Install disk doesn't work with Windows Vista

I just bought a new HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw and the install disk isn't compatible with Windows Vista.  Apparently there's no ful feature option for Windows Vista on an HP laptop.  After several hours of work I downloaded several drivers and got the printer to print, but the scan function doesn't work that well without the HP software which hasn't been created for Windows Vista.

I am having a very similar problem but do not have an answer either.  I am running an X61 Type 7676A12 with a Lenovo ACP50 port replicator FRU part number 40Y8160.  I am running Windows XP Pro.  The port replicator has never been very great and would not restore the external monitor picture properly when the laptop had been in sleep mode however it was serviceable if not optimal.  After downloading and installing the October MS security updates the machine would get a BSOD when the port replicator was plugged in.  Remove the replicator and reboot and it worked ok.  Plug it in again and BSOD.  I tried upgrading the drivers from 5.1.4a to 7.1.1.03Aug07 and then to 7.1.2.  No go.  Emailing Targus with the problem got no response.  The port replicator is now relegated to my junk heap of useless rubbish.

• How do I do a clean install without an OS install disk?

This may be a dumb question. I've just moved over from Windows. My 27in iMac came pre-installed with Lion and no install disks. In the event of a drive failure how would I re-install the operation system? In windows with a fresh drive I would have to load up Windows, then reload my backup software and then load up my backup. I'm backing up with Time Machine to an external drive but can that restore direct to a clean drive? Am I missing something, surely I should have been given an OS-X install disk?

Hello:
This article explains, in detail, all about Lion recovery - a new feature built into OS X 10.7:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
In my own case, I also have external drives that I use for backups.  I have both Time Machine and a bootable clone (made with SuperDuper!) on one drive and a bootable clone on the other.  I am paranoid about backups, I admit.
Since you indicate you just moved over from the "dark side" (welcome  ), you may not have heard that there are NO viruses that affect a Mac running OS X - none.   A/V software is unnecessary.  At a minimum, A/V software on a Mac wastes resources and frequently causes serious harm to software.
While I am on a roll, there are basically no "regular" maintenance activities required on a Mac under OS X.  The operating system performs them in the background.  For example, files of less than 20 MB are "defragged" on the fly.

P.S.  There are no dumb questions...annswers, yes, but not questions.

• Need to wipe out HD but don't have install disk? I have lion 10.7.5

Need to wipe out HD but don't have the install disk? I want to sell my Macbook Pro 15 inch. I have the orginal disk it came with but it's leopard and I have seens then upgraded to Lion. Now I can't find Lion and the install disk (leopard) tells me you can't you this disk. So does ANYONE out there know anyway I can work around this???
I have tried the recovery HD by rebooting (holding down opiton and R) but it dosn't do anything but restart the comptuer.
Am I doing something wrong?

First, if you purchased Lion at the app store, the license is not transferable - it is forever tied to your Apple ID. So you can't sell the machine with Lion on it (there is no install disk for Lion anyway). You do need to reinstall the original OS so the buyer can purchase Lion with their own Apple ID.
As for your problem with the install disk - you do need to boot from another disk in order to erase your hard drive. Have you tried to insert it and then go to System Preferences > Startup Disk > select it and then hit restart?

• Lost 1 final cut studio install disk

hi
i have my serial number and all install disk except dvd pro.  just can't find it.
final cut studio 5 bought in 2006
mbp 17'
running snow leopard 10.6.8
what can i do?
thanks

Hi Shane
i was doing a fresh install of FCS because i had done a clean install of snow leopard on a 15" mbp
informed through reading in this discussion forum that it is always better to fresh install applications rather than migrate them
then i found i was missing the DVD SP disk - so i did the FCS install unchecking dsp and qmaster.
after the FCS install i don't see DVD SP in applications folder.  [or am i missing something?]
YOu can install and use DVD SP in the basic way, just no themes.  And you can have the installer not ask for the content by doing a custom install and unchecking it.
on a 17" mbp - i do have both   - APPLE QM and DVD SP -  - i am just about to do a clean snow leopard install on this one too.  but first have just "plain" installed SL so that the 2 mbp have the same OS so i can miigrate files back and forth - or forth and back.
will a migrated DVD SP and a migrated QM work with the reinstall of the rest of FCS for which i do have the original disks [with a software update to bring them to the same version 5.1.4?]

• No install disks with MacBook Pro

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro (mid 2012 model) and no install disks shipped with it. Anyone else have this problem? Is Apple no longer supplying install disks with its laptops?

Nope, no longer supplying disks since Lion first shipped with late 2011 MBP. What you have instead is Lion (or Mountain Lion) Recovery partition. From here you can do all that you could do with installaton disc(s).

• Can't start up from 10.5 Install Disk, but can from MB Pro Install Disk?

Many thanks in advance for your attention.
1. I was going to Verify (and then maybe Repair) HD by starting up my computer from the OS 10.5 install disk, but my laptop just blacked out (froze) each time I tried to start up from the 10.5 install disk. I tried starting up holding down the "c" key, the "option" key, and the "shift" key.
Each time my laptop just blacked out and froze. Odd as the 10.5 install disk has very rarely ben used and has no visible scratches, etc. I think I haven't used it since the original install.
2. So I tried instead the original Install Disk 1 that came factory specific with the MacBook Pro (which also has 10.5 and iLife, etc. on it). Held down the "c" key and I was able to boot from the Disk (and do a Verify Disk, etc.). No problems at all.
Anyone know what could be up with my OS 10.5 Install Disk? Is there a way to test if the Disk itself is somehow damaged?
Thank you.

Thanks again for your response.
I am all for these forums in helping people out. I know some questions/ answers can't be all black and white.
But - in the interests of clarity for others out there -
1. Again, I was not trying to INSTALL from the 10.5 Install Disk.
2. I was merely trying to insert it and use it to VERIFY my HD.
3. I know one cannot do an "update" INSTALL from (for example) a 10.4 Disk if one already has 10.5 installed.
4. But - through the incarnations of 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4 - I had always been able to use the OS X retail install disk (no matter how old) to check out my HD, even if my HD had (for example) 10.3.5 on it and my Install Disk was just 10.3.
According to the link William posted, this may be different (I would guess on rare occasions), starting with Leopard.
5. But, given my history through all the incarnations of OS X, I was puzzled when it seemed my laptop could not read my very unused, mint 10.5 OS Install Disk. A mystery. But when I washed a seemingly flawless disk, it worked afterwards. So something must have been on it I couldn't see.

• Installing new hard drive without install disk

I just recently purchased a 500gb 7200rpm 2.5" seagate momentus for my macbook and my install disk doesn't work. Is there anyway to get OS X off my old hard drive onto my new one?

• Can't use Install Disk to repair my MacBook Pro HD

Hi,
I ran the Mac Disk Utility on my MacBook Pro's HD and I got this screen:
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l320/brunotapia/help.gif

So I inserted the install disk so that I could boot up from the CD and run disk utility to repair my HD.
But the MacBook Pro keeps spitting out the disk. It reads other disks fine and this install disk reads on my friends computer so I know that both the MacBook Pro drive and the install disk are ok. So what could be causing my problem?
I have also tried to boot the computer from the disc holding the "C" key down, but the computer spits out the disk and boots up from the HD.
How can I repair the HD if I can't get the OS to boot from the install disk? What else can I do? Can I boot from another HD or Thumb drive? How about an iPod?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Bruno

Are you using the OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer? To startup from the installer disc first insert the disc in the optical drive (label side up.) If the computer does not allow the disc to mount on the Desktop then either your optical drive is bad or the installer disc is damaged or is not a valid installer disc for your model.
If the disc mounts on the Desktop then restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the "C" key until the spinning gear appears beneath the dark gray Apple logo.
If this still doesn't work then boot the computer into single-user mode by restarting and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-S keys until the computer starts up to a black screen with white print. At the prompt enter or paste in the following:
/sbin/fsck -yf
Press return and wait. If you receive a message that the drive required repairs, then re-run the above command line until you receive a message that says the filesystem is OK. If you have to repeat the command more than seven times without receiving a filesystem OK message, then that means the drive cannot be repaired by fsck. If you have a utility such as Disk Warrior 4.0 or TechTool Pro 4.5.2 then you can boot from their CDs and attempt to repair the drive. If either or both fail then the drive will need to be reformatted.
I highly recommend backing up.
Yes, you can boot from any external drive provided it has a bootable copy of OS X installed on it. If you have a second Mac with Firewire ports then you can connect it to the MBP via a Firewire cable. Boot the MBP into Target Disk Mode and the other computer normally. The MBP's hard drive should appear on the other computer's Desktop. You can then repair the drive using Disk Utility or other disk repair utility.

• Will Install Disks for a MacBook (10.4.6) work on a non-Intel Mac?

I have got hold of new and unused install disks for a MacBook. Its OSX Tiger 10.4.6. Although all the new Macs are now Intel Duo, will this still be able to be installed on my iBook G4 512Mb?
Or will it only work on a Mac with an Intel Duo processor?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   512Mb

The story has now changed somewhat. Copied from your original post in this thread.
I have got hold of new and unused install disks for a MacBook. Its OSX Tiger 10.4.6. Although all the new Macs are now Intel Duo, will this still be able to be installed on my iBook G4 512Mb?
Although this 10.4.6 install package for an iBook may work on your iBook, usually the build must be identical also.
A link I provided in one of my previous posts in this thread.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
This install package may install OK on your iBook but if the build is not identical, it may not work correctly after the fact.
Since the bods at the Apple Store you visited said this makes no difference - this iBook 10.4.6 install package you acquired will work on ANY non-Intel Mac, what are you worried about? Use it but to be on the safe side, I would first get the bods at this Apple Store to provide you a free exchange for a Tiger retail install install package if your install package doesn't work.

• Making a copy of Leopard Install Disk

Hi there,
A while back I copied the contents of my Leopard install disk by simply dragging the files from the Disk into a new folder on my Desktop with the idea of making a back up copy in case I lost my original DVD. So recently my G4 started to slow up a little so I decided to de-clog it by doing a clean erase and install. However when I double click the "Install Mac OS X.app" icon and a dialogue appears saying:
"The application "Install Mac OS X" cannot be used from this volume. To install Mac OS X, please use the application provided on the Mac OS X installation disc."
So I went to find my original disk and it has simply disappeared.
So my question is If I make a disk image of the copied Leopard disk files that are on my desktop then burn it, can I install then from that Disk.
All and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Unfortunately, your drag & drop backup copy of the OS X install disc is no good. An install disc, like all bootable Mac OS X volumes, contains a bunch of hidden files and directories that are essential for booting, and a Finder drag & drop copy misses all of those. So the backup you thought you made is incomplete, and there's nothing you can do to fix it.
You'll have to get your hands on a replacement set of install discs. If it was a retail Leopard DVD your only option (if it is truly lost) will to be to buy another one, I'm afraid to say.
In the future, a good way to make a backup copy of the Leopard install disc is to use Disk Utility to make a disk image of it. You can then burn a copy of the disk image to a DVD+R DL disc if you want, and boot from that.
