LabVIEW SignalExpress overload indication

I was just wondering if LabVIEW SignalExpress 2010 had an overload indication/rejection feature, and if so where I could find it. I am currently using a PXI-4462 card with the trial version of SignalExpress.
Thanks,
Greg

Please post to the SignalExpress board. Very few users of it here. You might want to also explain what you want to give an overload indication of.

  • Moving Averages in Labview SignalExpress

    Hi everyone,
I am measuring power consumption values from a PC system at 25k samples/sec and looking for a way to calculate the 1-sec and 5-sec moving averages via Labview SignalExpress (Unfortunately I don't have Labview to custom-implement this). One person suggested using FIR low pass filter instead, but I am not quite sure what values I need to set for "number of taps" and "cutoff frequency" values to have it act like a 1-second and 5-second moving average. Any suggestions here?
Also, does anyone have a .VI from Labview for a moving average functionality, which I can use in my Labview SignalExpress setup?
    Thanks,
    --Serhan

    Serhan,
If you are just aiming to smooth out your signal and reduce noise, than an FIR filter would work fine, but it sounds like you are trying to achieve an exact moving average.  Unfortunately, there are entire textbooks on filter design and getting the filter to accomplish that with great accuracy would be a feat.  It is true that the moving average is a form of the FIR filter.
I had some old code that took the running average of 100 samples in SE, but I'll have to look for it when I get to work tomorrow.  I'll post again when Ifind it.
I don't have any moving average VI's handy, but that would probably be the easiest way to accomplish this. Maybe someone can distribute their VI to Serhan?

  • Multimètre numérique compatible avec Labview SignalExpress.

    Bonjour,

  • Labview SignalExpress (2.0) Dual-core capable?

I've read that the full-blown Labview is fully multithreaded and can take full advantage of multicore, can SignalExpress?  The machine I am evaluating on is a rather aged P4 (2.0 GHz I believe) and I'm finding my task to be rather CPU intensive, so I will probably put SignalExpress on a Core2 Duo machine if we purchase the package.

Yes, because LabVIEW SignalExpress is built on the same LabVIEW technology, all of your projects automatically take advantage of muticore architectures.

  • LabVIEW/SignalExpress: How can I automate measuring the time between two pulses?

Hi everyone, bit of a newbie here so please bear with me.
I'm a student at a university conducting a muon decay experiment with an oscilloscope connected to some photomultipliers.  To summarize, if a muon enters the detector it will create a very small width pulse (a few ns).  Within a period of 10µs it may decay, creating a second pulse.  The oscilloscope triggers on the main pulse 5-15 times per second, and a decay event happens roughly 1-2 times per minute.  I am trying to collect 10 hours of data (roughly 1500-2000 decay events) and measure the time it takes for each decay.
I've been able to set recording conditions in SignalExpress that starts recording on the first pulse and stops recording on the last.  The Tektronix TDS 1012 oscilloscope however feeds 2500 points of data from this snapshot into a text file (for use in excel or other software).  Even if I perfectly collected the data, I would have 100,000+ data points and it would be too much to handle.  I don't know how (or if it's possible) to reduce the sample size.
To conclude, using Labview or SignalExpress, I would like to be able to have the software
    1.  Differentiate between the single pulse detections and double pulse decay events
    2.  Record only when two pulses appear on the oscilloscope
    3.  Measure the time between these two pulses and ONLY that to minimize the amount of data recorded.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks!

    Hi wdavis8,
I am not that familiar with Tektronix, but there should be a place in the dialog that you go through when you create the action step to acquire date to specify a sampling rate. That would allow you to reduce the number of data points you are seeing, but may reduce the quality of the data.
If it’s just a matter of that much data being hard to dig through when you have that many points, you could do some analysis on the data after the fact, and then create a new file with only the data you want to look at. For example, you could identify the peaks in the data, and based on the distance between them or the difference in magnitude, selectively write data to a new file.
Here is some information about peak detection in LabVIEW:
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3770/en/
You could also do some downsampling on the data to get fewer data points:
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-23952
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-28976
Those are just a few quick ideas.

  • Connecting a 35670A to labview signalexpress

    Hello all,
I am rather new to using signal express,
First problem I have is I will be using the LE version of signal express, will this program be sufficient to run a VI for the 35670A,
Also it says you get a 30day trial which I have not for some reason, but do get 10 minute window,
Im going to try and sort out why the 30 day trial has not activated properly,
But what I want to know is how to setup the VI and get signal exspress to see the 35670A, I am using agilents I/O libraries and a agilent GPIB to USB cable.

Hi RGAK, Welcome to the NI Discussion Forums!
SignalExpress does not run VIs, for this you'll need LabVIEW. If you didn't mean VI specifically, could you share a screenshot of what you have so far?

  • How do you export LabVIEW SignalExpress Log files into MatLab?

I am using SignalExpress to capture vibration and acoustic data.  I need to show the results to a customer that doens't have access to LabVIEW.  They have Matlab, so I need to find a way to export the SignalExpress log file into a usable format that I can import into Matlab.

SignalExpress log files are in TDMS format.  You also have the option to convert your log to text when you finish it.  So you have two options:
Send the original TDMS log and have your colleague use the MATLAB plugin which allows reading of TDMS files.
Convert the log to text and send the text files.
The first option is probably your best bet, since it will result in smaller files.  Let us know if you run into issues.

  • Labview signalexpress extract part of the data

Hi, I'm using signalexpress 2.0 and I was wondering how I can take data I've recorded and remove parts to leave with with just a certain bit I'm interested in.

Use the Subset and Resample step with the full data as an input.  You don't have to resample.

  • Data acquisition problem with NI-DAQmx 9205 and SignalExpress

    Hi everyone,
I am using a NI-DAQmx 9205 connected via ethernet to my computer and Labview SignalExpress running to acquire data. I am working with EMG and I use an amplifier system from GrassTechnologies (http://www.grasstechnologies.com/products/ampsystems/ampsystems.html). The way it works is the electrodes are plugged on the amplifier system and the amplifier is plugged to the NI-DAQmx 9205.
I don't know how to setup the system to be able to read properly the emg signal on SignalExpress.
Does anyone know how to use it?
    Thank you for youe help
    John

    Hi John,
If I were an Applications Engineer I'd probably be able to figure this out on my own but would you mind elaborating on your hardware setup a little? You mention plugging into a "NI-DAQmx 9205", however the NI-DAQmx is the data acquisition 'driver', the [NI]9205 is an Analog Input Voltage module. Do you mean to be plugging into a Compact DAQ or cRIO?
Also, I'm not familiar with EMG readings or the amplifiers/electrodes you're working with.
What is the signal type going into the amplifier from the electrodes, and what is the signal type and range (amplitude) of the signal coming out of the amplifier; AC, DC? I'm assume it's all voltage?
Straight voltages are pretty easy to work with provided you can scale it to usable units.
Lets get your hardware and signal types figured out then we'll be able to tell Signal Express how to handle those signals.

  • No VISA Resources in Labview but all present in MAX

    Hi,
I am unable to find any VISA resources from LabVIEW, however, all NI hardware is available and working in MAX. I have just installed a PCI-8433/2 as well as a NI PCI-8512 CAN/HS Card. As part of the installation I believe MAX was upgraded to version 4.6.2. I will attach the max configuration report for those who are interested. I am working with LabView 8.2. I also uninstalled an agilent GPIB card and as a result the NI-GPIB card is the sole controller and is GPIB0... instead of the agilent card.
I have had a similar problem before that was a result of a corrupted database, but I was unable to find this problem on the forums this time and I am not getting any errors. Just an empty VISA Resource control.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Now that IS odd.
Can you show a couple screen shots from MAX?
First expand the software tab and post a png of the screenshot (I'm not yet convinced you do not have SOME driver issue)
Next select MAX>TOOLS>NI VISA>VISA Options- Wait for the new screen then expand Mysystem General settings and select Aliases.
You could also try "Clear all aliases" from there and reboot.
