  • High noise and vibration levels after Hitachi 7k500 upgrade. Advice needed

A couple days ago I upgraded my mid 2010 MBP 13 stock hdd(Hitachi 5400rpm 250gb) to a new one (Hitachi 7200rpm 500gb 7k500). I am still amazed by how much faster and more responsive system has gone.
I was expected some increase in noise and vibration of the system, but it does I am starting to get a bit annoying. Vibration gets on my nerves- the levels are nowhere high, but there was no vibration in my stock HDD. In addition, the noise of the system on idle has roughly doubled- both fan and HDD are humming at the same level. The system is still very quite, but I could not help noticing it anyway.
I tried replacing the old HDD and found out that the problems were not present with it (=I am not likely to have made some awful mistakes putting the hard drive in). Then I tried tightening all the screws as hard as possible and putting some rubberized washers on the corners of the HDD to ensure snuggly fit. All efforts rendered no change. Are there any other methods to reduce noise and vibration?
Furthermore, I still have one day to return the 7k500 without any loss. Should I get WD Scorpio Blue 500gb instead? I have read user reports of similar problems with WD SB 640gb drives as well. Since these drives are essentially the same, I would expect similar problems with 500gb as well.

Did you return it? I have the same drive and agree it is a bit noisier than the original Hitachi 5400 drive it replaced. But it is also noticeably faster and also, the noise seems to vary probably depending on internal temperature. I'm not noticing vibration.
Also, I wonder if the increased noise is par for the course with these 7200 rpm drives? Is the Seagate 7200.4 drive quieter? The reason I went with the Hitachi though is the salesperson at OWC said the Hitachi's were definitely more reliable.

  • Imac I7 2009 fan noise and vibration

I just got a refurbished imac 27 2009 i7, with 2TB hard drive. The fans are always noticeably on. Also, the top of my desk has low level vibration from the imac. Apple is willing to give me a full refund. Will an i3 be quieter?
    Thanks

Scott is correct -- this is not normal for the '09 i7 (I have one and it's very quiet). As for the i3 the speed depends on what you intend to do. The i7 is a great machine for apps that require a lot of horsepower like video encoding. If you are doing mostly web surfing and document prep the i3 is probably more than enough.

  • Is it possible to run my Labview software in Windows 7

    Hi there,
I currently use Labview 8.2.1 and Labview DSC 8.2.1.
But within a short time I want to switch from Windows XP to Windows 7.
    My question now is:
Is it possible to switch to Windows 7 without any problems?
Will the Labview software still run under Windows 7 without problems, or do I have to download new drivers or other software?
I hope to get a reaction soon.

    Hi Cheese,
Official LabVIEW support/compatibility with Windows 7 is explained under the following articles.
National Instruments Product Compatibility for Microsoft Windows 7
    Windows Version Compatibility with LabVIEW
LabVIEW Module and Toolkit Compatibility Information
On the forums, people seemed to have mixed reviews about older versions of LabVIEW with newer versions of Windows 7. Another piece of food for thought is Windows 7 (some versions) contain a "Windows XP Mode", which MAY allow you to run this version of LabVIEW in 7 however as the above articles show this is not the supported version. Essentially the XP mode allows virtualisation of XP OS on Windows 7. I've not personally tried it with this version of LabVIEW, but it's just an idea!
    Windows Virtual PC
Upgrading to the latest version of LabVIEW will work and is fully supported.
    Hope this may help

  • Can I integrate my exe program into my LabView software?

I developed a LabView software. Can I integrate my old xx.exe program into this LabView software? Any information on this point would be appreciated.
    Yun

The way to do this is to redirect the text output from the program to a file, and then read the file into LV. I unfortunately don't have all the information with me, but do a search in the archives here. The way I learned about is was a discussion a couple years ago. You can also check online for information related to writing DOS batch files--which is how you actually run the DOS program--that should get you pointed in the right direction.
So it is possible, messy, but possible.

  • Controlling pxi 7350 using labview software

    Hi,
So i am a complete newbie when it comes to labview having only used it to control virtual instruments before and now i am the point where i want it to interact with real world items. Ok so here goes..... i have the latest labview development software and have also purchased a pxi1033 with a pxi4065 digital multimeter and a pxi 7350 motion controller integrated within.
my problem however is that i want to be able to control my motors via the umi7772 interface but cannot seem to find the correct symbols on the labview software to utilise them, i would like to use labview to create a program that will turn the stepper and evaluate what is on the dmm and then turn accordingly this is way above my level on labview currently but if anyone has any ideas then any information is greatly appreciated.
    cheers
    james

    Hello Jamest6,
I have found some useful documentation that will help you get started with you 7350 and LabVIEW.
First of all here is a community example that you can take a look at. It is possible to download the example itself from the bottom of the page.
Read Analog Input (AI) values from NI-Motion device 73xx : https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-5617
Then you can access these knowledge base articles for some more guidance :
How Do I Use the Digital Input/Output Lines on my 7330, 7340, or 7350 Motion Controller Card? : http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2D238C3BF101620C862573A60081BFFE?OpenDocument
How do I control the analog ouputs from an NI PCI motion controller in Measurement & Automation Explorer?: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/04B940903BDD987C862579320083C6FF?OpenDocument
Also using these manuals for both prducts will be of help to you :
    NI 7330/7340/7350 Motion Controllers and
    P7000 Series Stepper Drives:
    http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372324d.pdf
    NI UMI-7774/7772 : http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/373359c.pdf
Another great source for looking at or using example VIs is the  LabVIEW's Example Finder.  Go to Help » Find Examples... When that window pops ups, double-click Toolkits & Modules in the folder list, then double-click NI Motion Assistant.  I'm guessing the "Straight Line Move.vi" or "Blended Move.vi" would be most helpful to you, but you could read the descriptions of each example listed for a little bit more information about what the examples are doing.
    Hope these are useful!
