  • Regarding Labview Training

    Hello All,
I am planning to take training in Labview. Since it is not possible for me to opt for NI training classes(bcoz of time, money and place  constraint), I am thinking of subscribing online course from SIXclear  . https://www.sixclear.com/labview-training/ .
Do anyone have experiences with Sixclear ???? or Can anyone suggest me something better than this Sixclear ?
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    Vaidhin.

    Hi Vaidhin,
This past September, National Instruments actually lauched a new Self-Paced Online Training format that consists of pre-recorded video modules and pdfs with the exercise procedures. Not only is this new format offered at a much lower price point that should better meet your time and budget constraints, but you may already have access to some of the self-paced LabVIEW training if you have an active LabVIEW Serivce contract.
LabVIEW software comes with one year of Standard Service at the time of purchase, which includes access to software updates, technical support, and now LabVIEW Self-Paced training. If your service contract has expired, you can renew your service for a fraction of the cost and get continued access to the new training and other service options.
Either purchase the Self-Paced Online Training  on NI's website (you'll be sent an access code in an email) or access the training as a benefit of service by registering your LabVIEW Serial Number with your ni.com user profile and going to ni.com/self-paced-training .
Hope this helps, I know it was a lot of links.

  • Are Labview training courses available in England?

I've been using labview for 3 days. I would like to speed up my learning curve by enroling in a Labview specific course and hopefully avoid as much of the 'trial'n'error' stage as possible. It's all new and I would also like to know that i'm at least heading in the right direction before commiting myself. If possible I would prefer a part-time course spread out over a period of time (i.e. 12months).
    Mark...

    Mark,
You can find listings of courses that are instructor led at: http://www.ni.com/custed/locations.htm
Sergey has good suggestions too. Apart from the interactive training kits you can also just get the Instructional Kits for the courses that are normally led by an instructor - effectively working through the course at your own pace but without an instructor to guide you an any issues that might come up: http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?lang=US&pc=bypsc&cid=2236

  • Missing codec in Media Player to play LabVIEW training video over Web

I get a "missing codec 130" message when I try to run LV training video from NI website. The error link takes me to MS site but codec is not available for download (apparently). WM player is configured for auto download of codecs cant find it. I have re-downloaded WM player twice and also run windows update.
Any ideas what to do next?

    Hi mg,
After googling around, it appears as though "codec 130" is referring to an ACELP Sipro codec.
If you enable codec download in WMP, the codec should be installed automatically when you play the video. However, if it does not, then it's possible that the codec may already be there and there may be an issue with the codec already installed.
http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html#wmv is a link about installing/downloading this codec.
I'm not sure if you've tried this yet, but is it possible to uninstall WMP first and then reinstall? Also, I would maybe look into finding ways to uninstall/unregister codecs to see if we can reload the codec.

  • Labview training core 1 & 2 sample questions not loading

Is anyone else having this problem with online self paced learning on ni.com?
There is meant to be several test questions at the end of each block but it only shows the first question then moves onto the next slide? is there any way of fixing this? it used to work for me...

    Hi johndoe,
I think I understand your problem. You are concerned there are not multiple quizzes at the end of each Chapter. I have reviewed the online material and the quizzes are situated throughout each Chapter, typically with a quiz at the end of each subsection.
I have attached a screenshot demonstrating this.
Please let me know if I have answered your question.

From your description it sounds like your course is made up of several different project files, each of which has a quiz at the end, correct?
Self-paced learning option only applies separately within each module.  So if you have several different modules, self-paced learning won't do what you want.
If your modules are all separate then you need some other method of locking participants out of sections they have not as yet reached.  This is something that LMSs can do and that's why I asked if you had one.

  • LabVIEW v. 8 material for training v. 2014

For industrial technician basic training in LabVIEW, how well does a reference book for version 8 work with the current student version of LabVIEW 2014?  For example, are the menus and screen shots from version 8 still viable for learning 2014, etc.?  If new reference materials are needed, what's recommended?
    Solved!

My personal opinion is that the version 8 training will suffice for basic LabVIEW training.
    My reasons are:
    1. Everything that you learn for version 8 will be applicable to the 2014 version.  There are rare exceptions but these are the exception and not the rule.
    2. The basic LabVIEW programming concepts (dataflow, structures, data types, modularity, and maybe a couple others that I'm missing) are what a beginner really needs to know to write simple programs and to understand and make simple tweaks to existing programs.  Advanced concepts will come later.
    3.  When you learn with version 8, and get your hands on version 2014, you will have quite a few pleasant surprises with some of the newer features.  There will be easier and faster ways of doing things, but for a beginner, the training materials for LabVIEW 8 are as good a version to start with as any.
After they've learned the basics and played around with LabVIEW a little bit, they will gain an incredible amount when they take the courses for version 2014.

For this very reason I recommend getting the 8.x version of Bloomy's Labview Style Book - because it's way cheaper than the current version, yet everything there is still applicale to LabVIEW basics.  Maybe there are easier ways to do certain things now, but the basic concepts never grow old.

  • How can i develop a custom Printer driver in LabVIEW

I have one application in which when ever user prints a document (He will print only certain type of documents)
it should get printed using some standard printer but at the same time the data should get communicated to our own custom device which is connected to the PC using serial port.
    how can i do this.
I think if we can develop a our own driver which will first send data to serial device and then just call the standard printers driver then whole problem can be resolved
The application will run on windows platform and the data i am expecting is purely a text data.

I think i have not explained my problem properly. i am sorry for that.
the problem is something like this.
my end user is already having one program which is generating the data (Unfortunately that program do not save data to any file and our requirement is online updatation of data) which i want to give to my serial device. he dont have the source code hence we can not alter that perticular code. the data might be available to us only when he prints the data, where we can select any one of installled printers.
hence we want to develop an application which will appear as printer driver to windows and when user prints we can capture printed data
i think problem will be clear now.

  • Anyone interested in working on a LabVIEW book with me?

    Hello
Several months back I began working on a LabVIEW training manual and
after becoming busy with other things, progress has stalled out. I am about
    70 pages into it.
Here is what I have so far.
Chapter 1 - Introduction (could probably use a little more work)
    Chapter 2 - Number Types
    Chapter 3 - Strings
    Chapter 4 - Booleans
    Chapter 5 - Arrays
    Chapter 6 - Structures (about 75% done)
    Chapter 7 - File I/O (havnt started)
I envisioned this much as an introductory manual for someone who has never
used LabVIEW before. I have my own business in which one of the things I
had hoped to offer was LabVIEW training and thought that it would be more
cost effective if I could produce my own training manual than have potential
students buy a 3rd party book.
I'm not sure what to do now with what I have but these are my ideas.
    1) Finish and polish what I have outlined above myself and see if I can sell
individual copies. I think that this would be appropriate for college
    courses
using LabVIEW with a need to quickly teach LabVIEW newbies enough
to create vis for small experiments. Perhaps tailoring custom chapters to
    show
how to use the classes particular hardware.
    2) Find one or two people interested in working with me to make something
considerably more substantial, getting into advanced programming concepts
    and
hardware programming concepts. This would continue to be a commercial
    project.
    3) Turn what I have so far into an open project. Divvy up the chapters and
    subchapters
to individuals to really hammer out into something nice. This has a lot of
    appeal for
a lot of reasons. I dont think it would be too difficult with the effort of
    10-15 people
working a couple hours a week to produce a free document that is better than
    all
the books currently on the market.
What do you say? Anyone interested in working on this project with me? I
    think it
would be a great service to the community.
Send me e-mail or respond to this thread so I can get an idea of the level
    of interest.
Make sure you let me know your LabVIEW background and what sections you
would be interested in working on. Suggestions for future chapters are
    welcome, too.

I'm willing. 5 years experience doing GPIB and card-based DAQ along with
playing with niceties like ActiveX, both for external app control and to
expand the available selection of front panel controls. Reasonable amount of
time at the moment though I'm looking for a new job [anyone hiring? ] so
    that may change.
A commercial book that gets published is better on the CV than a free one so
I favour working towards the former and doing it as a comprehensive work
that goes into depth. But at the order of 1k pages it's a formidable task.
Publication indicates a publisher thinks it's worthwhile; producing a free
book is an indication only of lots of free time to most people

ActiveX could be the basis of two chapters- "how/why to do it" and a
reference to the common apps and controls. The latter however is essentially
    a reference to a load of M$ products and M$ may protest. There's a
continuous trickle of ActiveX messages online so it's probably worthwhile.
One problem is, is there actually a need for another Labview book? You've
started this simply as a tutorial handout to make the cost of your course
appear less. Personally I've not read all of the supplied documentation and
have not bought any Labview books. Aside from the crap "case study" thing NI
produce. There's a few out there already, and I'd need to be convinced the
project is worthwhile before pitching in!

  • How to create custom project in LabVIEW 8

We can create VIs from the template in similar fashion i want to create a perticular folder hierarchy and copy some common VIs in perticular locations when i create  a new project. as in 7.1(or even in 8) we had option to create blank VI or VI from template, is there any option to blank project or project from template.
If this feature is not readily available then can i develop a tool which can do the job? How?

    Hello!
You can do more than just creating a blank project with the
VI server -- check out the example "Add files to project" from the NI
Example Finder (help->find examples->new to lv 8->general).  The
other post was correct though -- it is just an XML file that you can manipulate
    how you choose.

  • Cost of LabVIEW Exam in India and course details.

    Hi
I am planning to take the LabVIEW exam, I want to know the cost of exam.
is LabVIEW Basics I and II manual are sufficient for the preparation of the
exam as we have have them in the LabVIEW Academy.
What is difference between LabVIEW Core I , II (mentioned in the syllabous material of CLAD Exam)  and LabVIEW basics I and Basics II

    Hi illa,
Ray is right, the best way to get pricing and scheduling information is to contact the NI India branch directly.
However, as to your other questions:
LabVIEW Basics is a previous version of the LabVIEW Training Courses. You can check the front of the manuals to see what version of LabVIEW the course materials cover, but I believe it is LabVIEW Version 8.5 or 8.6, which is about 4 versions back.
Because the certification exam tests over the latest version of LabVIEW, 2011 in this case, you will find a few differences- for example, the appearance of variables and boolean constants off the top of my head. You can go online on ni.com and search for "What's new in LabVIEW" and a number of links worth purusing pop up: What's New in LabVIEW 2011? What's New in LabVIEW 2011/features
However, I wouldn't spend too much time on this, as it will probably only impact a few questions.
When we moved from Basics to LabVIEW Core Training, we shuffled topics around for a better user experience. For instance: Event Structures used to be in LabVIEW Intermediate 1, but can now be found in LabVIEW Core 2.  You will therefore what to do a topic comparison, as I describe below.
That being said, the LabVIEW Basics 1&2 manuals will still be a great way to familiarize yourself with the LabVIEW Programming environment. I recommend the following plan to prep for the CLAD:
Read through the LabVIEW Basics 1&2 concepts manual to familiarize yourself with the properties of LabVIEW objects and the proper terminology for things. For example, this will teach you that arrays are indexed from 0 and the red dot that sometimes appears on a terminal when you have a type mismatch is called a "Coercion Dot."
Work through the exercises and practice programming so you get used to the LabVIEW Environment and tools.
When you have completed that course compare the LabVIEW Core 1 and LabVIEW Core 2 Course Outlines, which lists the lesson titles, to the lessons in Basics 1&2. This should give you an idea of any topics you may be missing. A search on ni.com or in the LabVIEW Help should be able to fill in any holes. (event structure)
Finally, review the CLAD Preparation Guide's list of Topics and Subtopics to make sure you are familiar with everything you may be tested on.
After you know the material, this Discussion Forum has other posts on preparing for the exam. You can watch the Preparation webcasts and try the 2 Sample exams to get a feel for the type of questions you will be asked. And there are some helpful blogs we have listed.
    Good Luck!
