Here is the postmortem from the WLV server outage we suffered last week. We did post
ongoing updates on the NI Hosted Services status page located at http://status.niwsc.com
- if you think there's something wrong with the NI cloud that's your
first place to check, if there's a known problem we update it as soon as
we can.
What Happened And Why
From 10:53 AM to 4:05 PM CDT on Thursday, April 21, The LabVIEW Web UI Builder cloud systems were offline. This prevented downloads of the editor, loading or saving to the cloud, and build/deploy. If you were installed locally and using local project storage, you may not have been affected. We apologize for this unplanned outage, we
got caught up in the massive Amazon AWS Eastern region downtime, which
is where we host the service.
Detailed Timeline
2:51am
– LabVIEW FPGA Compile Cloud Beta (FCC) and LabVIEW Web UI Builder
(WLV) experience problems with the load balanced web servers on the
front end, LV Cloud Ops team is notified by monitoring. We have 24x5
operations staff on shift so there was no oncall delay.
3:30am – LV Cloud Ops team is able to stabilize WLV, but FCC is offline (both redundant front end servers are down).
4:00am – Ticket opened with Amazon support.
4:00am – Attempted to create new servers to fail over to. Not able to create new servers in Amazon US East Region.
7:17am – Posted on status.niwsc.com that FCC was no longer functioning.
10:16am
– One of the two WLV web servers crashes, AWS still not able to spin up
new instances in US East. It becomes clear from Twitter that the
problem is widespread and affecting many Amazon customers hosted in US
East.
10:20am – We alert customers that we might be losing WLV on status.niwsc.com.
10:30am
– We begin planning moving web servers to US West, but also hoping
second webserver stays up. Our tests show AWS is generally jacked up.
10:53am – Second web server for WLV goes down, WLV offline.
11:00am – Team works on moving assets to the US West Amazon region and continue to try and get new instances in US East.
12:35 pm – Amazon provides their first explanation:
A
networking event early this morning triggered a large amount of
re-mirroring of EBS volumes in US-EAST-1. This re-mirroring created a
shortage of capacity in one of the US-EAST-1 Availability Zones, which
impacted new EBS volume creation as well as the pace with which we could
re-mirror and recover affected EBS volumes.Additionally, one of our
internal control planes for EBS has become inundated such that it's
difficult to create new EBS volumes and EBS backed instances. Weare
working as quickly as possible to add capacity to that one
AvailabilityZone to speed up the re-mirroring, and working to restore
the control plane issue. We're starting to see progress on these
efforts, but are not there yet.We will continue to provide updates when
we have them.
1:00pm – Reset DNS for uibuilder.niwsc.com to point to “Page not found” on our core services.
2:30pm – Able to provision new instances for the first time. We grab 4 real quick.
2:40pm – Deploy software, apps, and config on all 4 new servers.
3:30pm – Encounter errors with the Elastic Load Balancers (ELBs)
3:50pm – Swap in new ELBs and move DNS
4:05pm – Services restored to customers, give it burn in time before communication on status page and forums
4:55pm – Communicate issue resolution
What We Can Do Better
We
were not already spread across multiple Amazon geolocations, instead
relying on multiple availability zones for uptime. Furthermore,
processes to migrate systems over to new regions require the old region
to be working. We plan to set up a process to move assets over to
US-West on a regular basis so that we can bring up systems there as
needed. We have had consistently good uptime with Amazon up to this
point and do not plan on moving providers, but of course if the issue
recurs we would address it at our supplier level. We do intend to
address the lack of/slow communication to us and other customers
surrounding the issue.
It took us a while to get the downtime
notification page updated. We will do better; it is hard to prioritize
communication when people are frantically working issues but we train to
expect that as a top priority. We have an automation solution nearly
done that will update the notification page when our monitoring goes
bad, though of course explanations would still have to be entered by
operations staff.
We were not able to quickly email affected
customers, as operations staff does not have a direct channel to send
email to customers. We are looking at other communication options such
as Twitter and opt-in email from the notification page.
We'd Like To Hear From You
Were you affected by the outage? What could we have done better in your eyes?
How
would you like to be notified of outages? We are reluctant to email all
hosted services customers about outages in case you'd consider that
annoying or spammy. Should we always push outage info to you or should
that be via an opt in mechanism? Do you like email, twitter, forum
posts, all of the above?
Again, we apologize for the
service disruption and will continue to work to make the NI Cloud up and
rock solid 100% of the time.

Web UI Builder server error

Hello mates,
I just started using LabVIEW Web UI Builder, and, after activation I was trying to complete the first tutorial to get used to the application (http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/373286A-01/uibuilder/wuib_gsg2/), but when I am trying to build the VI as the thin-client application I get an error that says:
“Error:
The LabVIEW Web UI Builder server is not responding.
Suggestions:
Refer to status.niwsc.com to see if any downtime is scheduled. If no downtime is scheduled, get support from National Instruments by visiting users.niwsc.com/help.

I am checking the server status and it seems working fine, isn't it?
I am guessing if the server is working alright I am having some other problem.
I’m only tyring to build to the PC, so it shouldn’t be a problem with clientaccesspolicy.xml, right?
I tried both storaging the files in my PC and in the NI Web Storage.
Also tried both using the Web Builder from my browser and downloaded to my computer.
Could anybody help me with that? Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for your answers. It seems finally I bother you without reason... since this morning I just switched on my computer to try some of your suggestions... and it worked on first attempt! Without changing anything! So I guess I'll never know the reason. Maybe it was logging out and in again (although I don't think so since I tried yesterday in 2 different PCs and, in order to activate my account in the other PC I had to log out from my base PC and then I logged in again).
Anyway, I'm going to answer to your previous post just in case the information helps if anybody has the same error in the future:
At what point in the build do you receive this error? Just at the beginning. When you click on Build & Deploy, and then in the new window you choose the vix file to use as Start up VI, then choose the deployment destination and press "Build" So just after that.
Do you have any firewalls turned on? I had yesterday... and I have them now.
Any anti virus software that could be blocking this connection? Idem
What operating system are you using? If you are on Windows, in your services list located in services.msc, what is the status of the NI System Web Server? Windows 7 Prof 64 bits. The NI System Web Server status is Started.
When you log in to the NI Cloud Services Portal, are your services properly listed and activated? Yes, they were and they are.

How to add items dynamically to the DropDown Ring control in Web UI Builder

Is there any way to add the item names to DropDown Ring Control in Web UI Builder?

Is there any other control available to make selection in the Front Panel which can be dynamically loaded?

We do not currently have a solution for populating the items in a ring dynamically.

Seems incredible after all these years that such functionality (dynamically populating a ring control) is still beyond Labview. I must be missing something.
However, I'd suggest a combobox is closer than a listbox as a workaround.

Creative Cloud : How to install page error "We are currently experiencing some issues, please try again later. If the problem persists, contact customer support."

I recently purchase a full membership student yearly plan. I was prompted to this page after my payment was confirmed - https://creative.adobe.com/products/download/creative-cloud
However I continue to receive the error "We are currently experiencing some issues, please try again later. If the problem persists, contact customer support."
What is going on here?
Is there another way to access Creative Cloud download and installation?

If you continue to face difficulties then I would recommend beginning the installation process through the Creative Cloud Desktop directly. How i upload a web page named index.html generated by NI Web UI Builder in thin client application on world wide Web

Hello All,
I have an example which use simulated signal with its web service generated by LabVIEW. Then an application of this web service was created using NI web UI builder. And application was build and deployed on NI Cloud Portal, a zip file was downloaded of that project after build and deploying application.
The downloaded file contain a thin client application like :index.html page, readme file etc.
Now problems is this index.html runs easily on http://localhost:8080/appname/index.html or on my computer name like
http://iaa42:8080/appname/index.html web page runs and shows updated values in indicators and graphs but when i use ip address of my system like http://192.168.1.6:8080/appname/index.html , index.html runs but the values in indicator and graphs remains 0 (zero) constantly. how can i get all indicators and graphs updating continously on by using my ip address like same when i use localhost or computer name in url bar. 1st problem is this.
Now 2nd question.
I get a page index.html in a zip file built by NI web UI builder now i want this page to be viewed by every one world wide
where should i upload that code. Should NI Cloud Portal be my hosting server for that web page ? or i have to purchase a domain other than NI cloud portal?

Hi Waqas,
For your first question, my first thoughts turn to your router (which I assume you are using with a 192.168.x.x address). Are you sure you are configuring your ports and firewalls to allow NI services to function? Here is a really good resource on how to check if your ports and firewalls are configured properly:

For your second question, when you deploy a web service you are hosting it on your local machine. If you wanted to host it elsewhere (i.e. another server or another domain) you would have to be sure that the server hosting your application has the LabVIEW run-time engine installed.

Hi,
I am using EWS Java APIs and passing OAuth tokens to fetch data from office 365 mailboxes.
Because I am developing Web APIs I preferred using "Application Permissions" defined in Azure active directory application for Office 365, and used "client credential flow" OAuth flow to fetch OAuth token specific to application which will
allow "Have full access via EWS to all mailboxes in the organisation".
After fetching token with the procedure specified in the document "http://blogs.msdn.com/b/exchangedev/archive/2015/01/21/building-demon-or-service-apps-with-office-365-mail-calendar-and-contacts-apis-oauth2-client-credential-flow.aspx"
I passed this token to EWS Java APIs,
it gave me error saying:
microsoft.exchange.webservices.data.ServiceResponseException: Exchange Web Services are not currently available for this request because none of the Client Access Servers in the destination site could process the request.
I tried similar thing with EWS managed APIs for .net. Got similar error.
Can anyone provide some help and direction to resolve this error.

Labview Web Services: How to 'undeploy' web services

I have created the example web services:
Address Book project in labview\examples\comm\webservices\address book for an example of a Web service that handles post data, streaming output, static content, and HTML forms.
Weather Monitor project in labview\examples\comm\webservices\weather monitor
for an example of a Web service that publishes simulated weather statistics.
Using Web UI Builder, they are always included in the list of available web services when I Import Web Service.

Hello,
To remove them from the list, you need to undeploy the web service. There are two ways to do this: you can turn off Web Services in Distributed System Manager or you can delete the Web Service file.
To enable the ability to control Web Services in Distributed System Manager follow the steps in KnowledgeBase 5BLESQW5.
To remove an actively running web service go to C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\WebServices\aws (Windows 7) and remove the directory that has your web service name. Because we also cashe the LVWS files in another location on disk we will also have to remove that to ensure the Web service is not redeployed by the system web server at some other time. Go to C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Documents\LabVIEW Data\WebServices\Standalone and remove the LVWS file associated with you web service.

It says "We are currently experiencing some issues." and has done this sense yesterday

PenguinePRIDE this error can occur due to the security settings of the web browser. I would recommend you begin the installation process through the Creative Cloud Desktop application. Labview Web Service Stop

I started to use Labview Web Service and I have a couple of suggestions
In the Startup Vis you are able to monitor the status of the web service, but you are not able to close it. It says that labview will automatically close the Labview Web Service when closing a standalone exe, but there are some schenarios where you might want to close programatically the web service. e.g.:
- When building a standalone exe and you want to be able to close the service programatically.
Also,
As soon as the web service receives a URI that doesn't have a Web Resource, it throws an error without been able to handle it. Been able to handle the error could be beneficial when trying to make a dynamic routing system e.g. Many web frameworks.

Yeah, I believe your method would indeed allow you to programatically stop and start the web service. The easiest way I can think to do this is to use the System Exec.VI to start the process, and then again to kill that process. Take a look at the following example that shows how to stop a process using LabVIEW.

"We are currently experiencing technical difficulties"

I've had an Apple account for years, but have only (relatively) recently had an iPod. I just installed Vista and so need to authorize it to work with my iPod. When I enter my account id/password I'm told that my account needs to be updated to work with the iTunes store. Ok, no problem. But when entering my updated payment & address information I'm told "We are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later". It's told me this every time I've tried this week.
I also tried updating the same information via the normal Apple web site, but that gives me a different problem. It says "Address line 1, postal code, country code or Address line 1, city name, State Province, country code are required.", despite all that information being provided.
Anybody got a clue what's up?

I think the best advice anyone can give is to contact the iTunes support team. Sounds like something funky is going on with your account. Email the here:

Is there a way to interface Labview Web GUI with Fusion Charts for dynamic web presentation?

I have a ballistics program which our clients can use (see attached). Basically there is a series of Cascading Combo boxes that the user must select for Bullet Manufacturer, Caliber, and Bullet ID. The program then goes out to the relevant data file (.CSV) and provides ballistic inputs for the selected projectile. The user is also required to enter in additional data, such as Sight Height, LOS Range, Temp, etc.. Once all data is input, the user either hits the Calculate Button or the Tab (I'm using Event Structures and I now realize this is an issue for Web UI Builder), and the data gets passed to a MathScript which then crunches numbers and spits output to fill a table and a series of Graphs based upon the tablulated data (if so desired).
I was hoping to use Labivew for the first two parts ( Data Collection and Number Crunching) and use something like Fusion Charts for the presentation. I tried learning Ruby on Rails. I was successful with the Ruby part (basically the Mathscript portion) but really got hung up on the Rails section and the need for something like JSON to interface with it. Could not find a useful source of information which really showed you how to combine the two effectively.

Why do all of the desktop application installations fail with this message:

(Although the application name matches the respective application).
The troubleshooting guide refers to error numbers but none of the failures provide error numbers.

Since you are experiencing the difficulty with multiple web browser then it would need to be caused by something global such as anti virus software. Any software which will affect your web browsers ability to accept cookies and secure connections could be causing the behavior you are experiencing.
I would also recommend clearing your cache and cookies if you have not done so already.
If you can please update this discussion with the software title and version of the software, affecting your ability to download Adobe software, it would be appreciated.

TAPS "Currently experiencing System Problems..."

I have setup TAPS as per the Cisco documentation and I cannot for the life of my work out what is going on.
I can auto-register a phone and dial the TAPs RoutePoint and get redirected to one of the DNs. But i get the message "I'm sorry, we're currently experiencing sytem problems...". I have everything in the right partition / CSS, my RPs are registered, AAR application is installed and the script is present. I have done a data check and sync and that all looks ok.
What could be the issue here? Anyone have some ideas?

Difference between webpublish and web gui builder

Have you worked with webpublishing tool in LABVIEW 2013 before? Do you think I can show my front panel which is designed in Labview fully on the web by this method?
Please make your advice about it. I have studied few articles about web gu builder, webpublishing and webservers but I am still not clear which one can simply satisfy my objective?
My objective is to display the graphical front panel which is designed in labview .vi exactly on the web.

Portal Servers are usually Application servers which host a
variety of Applications, Portals as a concept are single Gateway
to whole lot of information and applications(could be
distributed across systems, generally Web based ones).
Eg. BEA Weblogic Portal
Content Management systems are applications to Capture, Manage,
version, distribute and Store content. Content can be Structured
and Unstructured. Generally I have seen when CMS word is used,
it means Web Content Management, although this is not a norm
across the industry.
I am sure you are aware of WCMS and ECMS differences.
E.g Interwoven TeamSite, Documentum, OpenCMS etc.
CMS facilitates the ready availibility of content to be shown on
Portal in large Portals (the concept). This content could be
sourced in from various systems and distributed by the CMS.
Essentially any CMS deals with Content Creation, Content
Management proper, Content Intelligence and Content
Distibution.
However important thing to note could be the emerging products
which are Portals and have a built in CMS tool also, like BEA
(Aqualogic in particular). There is another genere of products
like Vignette, Broadvision which are Portals and CMS both in one
(have CMS products built in but as a seperate component).
