Labview won't close down properly after installing Service Pack 2

Hi,
We installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP recently and ever since, I've had trouble closing down Labview. I'm using Labview 6.1 and whenever I try to close it down, it won't fully close down and I have to use Task Manager to shut it down.
What happens is that I get a minimised window on the bottom of the screen that won't go away.
Has anybody seen this before and can anybody help.
Thanks,
Kenneth

In my experience, SP2 for XP introduced a whole lot of bugs and mishaps. You would be better off uninstalling SP2 if you can. If you want to keep SP2, you may have to uninstall Labview, then re-install it.
I personally can't confirm this statement. I have XP SP2 with the latest patches applied and I have not really problems with LabVIEW 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, and 7.1. Only NI-Max likes to crash sometimes but since it is a notebook I have little reason to run NI-Max until now.

  • How can I open a picture file in PS Elements after installing service pack 2?

Since I installed service pack 2 on my HP computer a week or two ago, the Photoshop "Open" tab no longer appears at the top of my Pictures screen, but rather a "Preview" tab, and I haven't been able to open a picture in Photoshop.  Instead, when I double click on a picture, it opens in Windows Picture Gallery.  Not long after I installed service pack 2, I also changed my default browser from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.  Thanks...

  • Fix for continuous reboot after installing Service Pack 3 in Windows XP

After contacting HP Technical Support and speaking to a supervisor we were able to solve the problem of Windows continuously rebooting after installing SP3. Here are the steps that fixed the problem with my HP Pavilion running on an AMD processor. The steps are actually fairly straight forward and easy....
Issue: The computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3
Computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3 on AMD systems. The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.
    Cause:
On HP computers, the same Windows installation disc image for Intel processor based PC's is deployed for the AMD processor based computers as well. Because the original installation image for both Intel and AMD is the same, all have the intelppm.sys driver installed and running. That driver provides power management on Intel-based computers. On an AMD-based computer, amdk8.sys provides the same functionality for power management.
    Symptoms:
Ordinarily, having intelppm.sys running on an AMD-based computer appears to cause no problems. However, on the first reboot after a Service Pack 3 installation, it causes a big problem. The computer either fails to boot, or crashes with a STOP error code of 0x0000007e.
You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast. In order to get the error message, you need to set an option during startup. To do so, open the windows advanced menu by tapping the f8 key on startup. Then select the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option.
    Solution:
If you have an AMD-based computer, however, you do not need the intelppm.sys driver and can disable it. There are three methods in order to do this.
Step 1: Please try to log on the system in safe mode.
    1. While using Safe mode open the command prompt....  Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
Run the following command in the command prompt just like it's typed: sc config intelppm start= disabled
    Step 2:
If the issue persists, please try to log on or boot the system in recovery console (refer to the web document)
    2. Using recovery console:
If you booted into the recovery console, from a command prompt, type: disable intelppm
Step 3: Please check in registry.
    3. Using windows registry:
    1. Run regedit
    2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    3. From the File menu, select "Load hive"
    4. Navigate to %systemdriver%\Windows\System32\Config on the dead system and select the file name System
    5. Name it something you can remember, such as "horked"
    6. Navigate to horked\ControlSet001\Services\IntelPPM
    7. Double click the Start value and set it to 4
    8. If you did what I did and completely messed things up by running a disk check previously, navigate to ControlSet001\Control\SessionManager. Open the BootExecute value and clear out the autochk entries.
    9. Repeat steps 6-8 for the other control sets.
    10. Reboot

Before installing the service pack 3 update, please follow the steps listed above and save yourself much time and effort.
To uninstall service pack 3, I suggest that you uninstall it from add/remove programs.

Uninstall service pack 3 from add/remove programs:

    2. Select Run.
    3. Type appwiz.cpl in the run field.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Click change or remove programs.
    6. Select the program -service pack 3 that you want to uninstall or remove.
    7. Click Remove button.
    8. It will pop up the message stating that "Are you sure you want to remove the programs".
    9. Click Yes. It will help you to remove or uninstall the installed programs from add and remove programs.
Step 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform system restore and then try to install the service pack 3 after performing the steps mentioned above in regards to removing the intelppm.sys Driver.

Still useful as of 12/30/11. Have ten Lenovo 5042 computers with downgrade licenses to run XP and have a ghosted image from another Lenovo 5042 having and Intel cpu. My target computers all have AMD cpus in them and the image would continuously reboot on
    the AMD computers.
Used method 1 and it cleared the problem instantly, many thanks for the post and the time and effort it took to dig up the answer..

  • Volume Keys not responding after installing service pack 1.

Okay, I've scoured the internet, and I can't find anyone else with a similar problem or a way to fix it, hopefully ya'll will have an answer:
I recently just updated my Vista Ultimate Operating System (using Bootcamp) to service pack 1. Prior to installing service pack 1, when I pressed F3-F5 on the keyboard, they would respond in the same manner that they would on OS X where F3 would mute, F4 would make the sound lower, and F5 would increase the sound.
However, after Service Pack 1, the buttons do nothing more than mute and turn on the sound. I reinstalled the Boot Camp drivers, ran all the software updates (found no updates on both apple and windows), and tried to repair Vista from the original install disk. Nothing helped.
However, here's the thing: When I press the buttons the same little overlay comes up displaying the sound volume, but there's a big 'denied' circle on the bottom of it. To describe it slightly better, there's a circle with the line through it(looks like a no smoking sign), placed over the squares representing the volume on the overlay to show volume control.
I'm lost as to what to do since all the other keys work, including the brightness control, and they worked before I installed Service Pack 1. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

i just uninstalled SP1 and it went back to normal,
go to Control Panel and on the left side theres something called "view installed updates" go there and just uninstall SP1 and your fine. but if you need sp1, i don't know how to help you there.

Hi,I have recently install the last service pack 3 on Crystal Report 3. And now all my report take a long time to execute. All reports use oracle with many table, and I have trace what's make Crystal with SQLMonitor. And I have found that Crystal have break all relation between tables, and execute each table separetly. Whats happend with the new Service pack ? I was constrained to remove this ServicePack for use with good preformance. NSC.

    Hey Daniel,
That's not a bad idea to install hot fix for your activex viewer but the description of your problem is with crystal designer.
Then it is better to continue with crystal reports 8.5 has the required service pack is available with in our SAP portal.
If you feel that  service pack 3 for crystal 8.0 version would solve your problem, then conatact your accounts manager to reach the SAP Services and would provide you the Download link or the Set up file for SP3.
Unfortunately we dont have  the link  for the service pack.
As crystal 8.0 is old version and the required hot fixes and service packs are bit  hard to find in the Service portal for you guys.
We are sending you the link of service packs for 8.5 version.
You can down load service pack 2 and service Pack 3.

  • After installing Service Pack 2 in Vista, I've lost the pulldown menu in Tools Tab

Pulldown Menu under Tools is "half" missing

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Firefox can't open normally without going through the "this is embarrassing" routine; nor does it close down properly; I get the "end program" message and have to say "end now"it also sticks frequently, i.e. screen freezes for a minute or more; should I uninstall and re-install to try and debug?
    - I've used Firefox exclusively for around 2 years.
    - My outlook express has no problems
    - other programs seem unaffected; it seems peculiar to Firefox.
    - my main use is surfing the net, primarily entering competitions on line via specialist competition sites.
    - every day at some stage(s) I have to switch computer off as Firefox has got very slow/sticky/freezes.
I'm not techy by any means, but I can only thing of un- and re-installing to hopefully start with a clean slate.

Sounds like something is keeping Firefox from closing properly. See this: <br />

We have one MacBook Pro that doesn't close down properly. The display just bounces up. Is there any way to fix this or is this something that needs to be fixed by a technician?

Try blowing out the slots where the two "prongs" come up, and the release button slot (push it in and out a bit while doing this) with compressed air. (use your lungs if you don't have a can of air).
Often a bit of crumb or other gunk will impede the mechanism enough to prevent the magnets from being able to do their job properly.
