LabVIEW won't let me configure DAQ assistant

Hi,
When I launch the Data Acquisition with NI-DAQmx.vi and double click the DAQ assistant icon on the block diagram the program won't let me configure the DAQ.  Also, right clicking on the DAQ and selecting properties does nothing.  How do configure the DAQ to allow me to use input channels on my NI-ELVIS board and then display the output on graphs in labview?
Thank you.

Hi cd384-
In general, you can have two (or more) DAQ Assistants in the same VI.  I assume, however, that you're trying to have separate DAQ Assistants for analog input and this definitely will not work.  You must group all tasks of the same type (analog input, analog output) within the same DAQ Assistant or DAQmx Task.  You can add multiple channels by holding control and selecting multiple items when you are initially configuring the DAQ Assistant.
In order to separate signals in LabVIEW you can use the Split Signals function that is available on several palettes.  To find it, just click "Search" from the functions palette and search for "Split Signals"
Thanks-

I have a mid 2012 Macbook pro. It won't let me configure anything in the Midi part of the Audio MIdi untility. I don't want to use any external midi devices. Does anyone know why?
    Thanks.

    Here's the error message:
Audio MIDI Setup couldn’t open the MIDI Server so you can’t view or edit your MIDI configurations.
If you recently installed a new MIDI driver, try uninstalling it and then open Audio MIDI Setup again.  If Audio MIDI Setup works correctly after that, contact the driver’s manufacturer for further support.

  • LabVIEW won't let me do ANYTHING

I am trying to work through the first tutorial on LabVIEW and in the Block Diagram, I seem to not be able to do any wiring, or even select anything. The cursor remains the default finger point cursor no matter where I point it. LabVIEW is essentially not letting me do ANYTHING the tutorial is telling me to do because of this. Am I missing something here? Is there any reason why I cannot use LabVIEW at all? By the way, I am using LabVIEW 8 if that helps.

    Hi systemcrash,
You are definitely correct, I just wanted to add that you can use Ctrl+Shift+right-click to bring up the same menu, much like you can right click for the Controls/Functions palettes. Also, just holding Ctrl+Shift gives you the Pan cursor when you are using the automatic tool.

  • Won't let me configure Airport (on the Computer Side)

I'm trying to use my wireless connectivity on my MB Pro but it says Airport is not configured. I can't turn it on (dimmed).
In Network Preferences I can create a new location. The 'turn airport on' button then comes alive, but when I press it that new location disappears and the system emphasis switches over to another connection protocol (ethernet).
I tried going to a wireless site, and it wouldn't pick up the signal automatically. When I used the assistant to configure the WiFi area, it informed me the password was incorrect even though I believe everything was indeed correct.
Is there any way for me to test the hardware side of things ? I think something might actually be hard-broken.

are you meaning the Network? If you open Network Preferences, make sure you Unlock it (if locked), click on Advanced, it should show your Network which should match your SSID of the network you are trying to config/connect.
You have the option of hitting the + or - button and adding/removing networks. Note: you can only have 1 network connection in use at a given time unless you have a different subnet assigned to each,
you might also try removing "Airport" from Network, shutting down and restarting and adding "Airport" back in the list and reconfigure it. You can also turn Airport On/Off from Network panel.

  • Aiport Admin Utility won't let me configure my settings.

Ok first let me tell how to get to my problem. (note this is a Extreme 802.11n router)
I opened up Airport Admin Utility hoping to change the radio mode so I could connect to xbox live (MAC FIX THAT PROBLEM NOW!!!), so I then select to make on the base station I want to configure. Then the settings screen opened, BUT a warning message pops up and it says
    Configuration Error
This version of AirPort Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station, but you may be able configuration changes to it. Please go to www.apple.com/support to locate a newer version of the Airport Admin Utility.
What do I do, and where do I go?

The disc that came in the box with the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) has the "AirPort Utility".
You must use the "AirPort Utility" not the "AirPort Admin Utility".

  • Ipad won't let me configure my email account as iMAP

This is a very strange one.   For many years, I had my office email configured to both my iphone and my Ipad with no problems.  All of the sudden, and without any change, it said that  either the user id or password was wrong.   Strange.   I deleted the account, and tried to configure it again.   It kept saying the same thing ... Until I configured ti as POP (with the same exact inputs!).   The thing is ... It is a real hassle for me to use POP.  So I tried again and again.  Same result:  Nothing.  I reset my phone to factory settings.  And did NOT configure it from back up.   It worked!   I had IMAP again!  Sadly, it only lasted for about a week.  Today, I had the same problem again.    Any ideas?

I had the same trouble setting up my wife's SBCglobal (AT&T) account. I tried the steps above and couldn't figure out why I wasn't seeing the same entry fields.
I learned that you have to begin from MAIL>Add new account... menu and NOT from the System Preferences>Internet Accounts screen. System Preferences does not seem to allow you to add a POP3 account. You must do it from within the Mail client.  I hope this helps someone else find their solution.
I still can't understand why this method is buried so deeply that Apple or AT&T don't document it. Thanks to this forum we can solve the problem and use the app like it should be used.

  • Mac Office 2011 won't let me configure .mac email

    Hi
I've done this for years.  It's worked great.   All i did was delete my current email account (can't remember the name of the obscure outgoing mail server for .mac) and added it back.  Used correct email address and password... default outgoing mail server is smtp.mac.com
and when i press enter, the little yellow indicator next to that account in the accounts list NEVER turns back to green.
    I'm stumped.  thoughts?

Both of those are functonal iCloud server addresses, so you must be doing something else wrong.
Post the complete set of SMTP server settings you are trying to use, are you logging in with your complete email address or just the user name, and does your password meet iCloud spec (8 character minimum, at east 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter and 1 number. No special characters.

  • I do not have the daq assistant vi on my labview 2010 and have found no drivers for it what should i do

I do not have the daq assistant vi on my labview 2010 and have found no drivers for it. I downloaded the service pack but  that did not have it either what should i do.

    Hi Youzhang He,
Did you install LabVIEW first on your PXIe 8102 before the drivers?  Most likely, you're missing LabVIEW support for your DAQmx drivers. Fortunately, this is an easy fix. What you should do is open Add/Remove Programs, select National Instruments Software, select Uninstall/Repair. In the window that pops up listing NI software, select NI-DAQmx 9.x and select Modify. In the window that appears, expand Application Development Support and select to install LabVIEW support.  From here complete the install process and restart your system.  LabVIEW support should be installed and DAQ Assistant should appear in your palette.

  • Missing wire connectors on DAQ Assistant express VI's

I'm seeing some strange behavior on one specific computer running LabVIEW. The problem is that DAQ Assistant VI's have no connector points. I have nine other identical computers (used in a classroom setting) but I don't see this behavior on the others (I haven't tested them all).
I've removed LabVIEW (and all other NI software) and re-installed it (LabVIEW v 8.6.1). I also tried a more recent version of LabVIEW (2010?). Same behavior, no connector dots on DAQ Assistant VI's.
The computers use DAQmx with USB hardware (cDAQ).
I guess my next step is to format the hard drive and re-install everything. My theory is there's some kind of driver corruption. What do you think?

    Allie,
Here are the steps I use to create the Express VI using the DAQ Assistant:
    * On the block diagram:
Right click -> Measurement I/O -> MX -> DAQ Assistant
    * Drop Blue box on block diagram.
    * Configuration Screen Appears
    Aqcuire Signals -> Analog Input -> Voltage -> Dev1 (USB 9219) -> ai0 -> Finish
    * Voltage Input Setup Appears
Accept default settings -> click OK
    * Voltage Input screen disappears, a blue DAQ Assistant appears on block diagram. No connection points.
When I execute the exact same procedure on another computer I get a DAQ Assistant with connection points.
    Weird eh?
    thanks!

  • DAQ Assistant: How Can I Control this at the lowest Level?

    DAQ Assistant:
I have the PCI slot version of this which I use to generate specific signatures. However I would like to get down to the very low level of this block to see what makes it tick if only to add some other features such as have it dynamically change high and low times after "N" number of pluses/bursts.
At the current state I can't seem to get any further than the GUI that I work with right now. I can give you a VI upon request however this VI is included with labview from what I understand I have version 8.2. If anyone wants a copy of the vi which contains the DAQ Assistant block I will be more than happy to include.
DAQ Assistant Location: Right click on the block diagram of a VI --> Measurement I/O --> NI-DAQmx --> DAQ Assist (This is an icon in itself)
I see the read, write nodes however I have played and tried to see what they do but I have had no such luck. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.
    Thank You.
    Solved!

You've got a couple of misconceptions about the DAQ Assistant. First, there is no such thing as a pci version. There are some slight differences between versions of the DAQmx driver. Second, the DAQ Assistant is a code generator. When you start it up, it will create custom code for the type of task you want (digital i/o, analaog i/o, etc.) so the VI you eventually have on the block diagram is not included in any version of LabVIEW.
Once you have configured the assistant, you can right click on it and select 'Open Front Panel' this will convert the assistant task to a normal subVI that you can opne and view the block diagram. You can also right click and select 'Create DAQmx Code'. This will place the low level DAQmx functions on your block diagram. You could also skip the whole assistant and just start with the low level DAQmx functions in the first place. There is help associated with each and you have all of the shipping examples to look at. There is also the Getting Started with NI-DAQmx page.

  • Long term discontinuous logging DAQ-assistant

    Hello,
I need to log information of load cells (NI9219) and strain gauges (NI9237) with a compactDAQ 9178. This logging will be discontinous. Let's say 10 minutes logging and 50 minutes nothing (repeating). The logging has to be triggered by a digital edge. The digital signal is continious and when it falls the logging has to stop. I thought of using a while loop with a case structure within. The case structure has 2 cases with one for logging and the other one doing nothing (state machine). So the first case must be activated by the trigger signal. But how do you do this? I know the basics of labview but I never worked with DAQ-assistant before...
If anyone could help, I'll appreciate it very much
    Thank you

Remember that a stop button is just a boolean, same as a digital line.  Look at the little example I attached.  It's VERY basic to show you the concepts.  I would add more timing control, a "quit" state to close your file and DAQ, an event structure to allow on-the-fly changes, etc. but this should get you started.
It's in 2013, let me know if you need it back-saved but I'm about to head home...

  • Recipe Management Using State Machines and DAQ Assistants

I am writing LabVIEW code to control a conversion process for up to 4 devices on one apparatus.
The operator will select from these 4 devices which ones will go through a conversion process. Therefore - they can select some or all of the devices to go through the process.  The process is the same for all 4 devices. The difference between the 4 are the digital outputs used for the conversion process.
Clearly a state machine is applicable. However, I would like to "reuse" the process conversion code of the state machine by creating a separate recipe for each device and merely change the digital outputs (their physical location) for the device under conversion. Presently I have DAQ Assistants controlling digital ouputs for the conversion of one device. Is it possible to "reuse" the code by creating a recipe or a lookup table to reassign the DAQ Assistants to their proper physical location (the digital output lines) for the device under conversion?
I could - copy and paste the code, go into the process and reassign every DAQ Assistant to the correct physical channel of each digital output for the other 3 devices. I was curious if there was a more efficient way.
I see documentation online for recipes; however they are dated 2006. I thought there may be some updated examples.
    Using:
    LabVIEW 2011
    cDAQ-9188 chassis

    Hi MgDAQ,
DAQ Assistant is a quick way to start acquiring data, however it's not the most efficient.
Everything that DAQ Assistant does can be acompished with basic DAQ functions on the
Measurement I/O -> NI-DAQmx pallete. For example, you can use DAQmx-Create Channel.vi and
a Channel Constant to select the channel from which you want to acquire data.
To get started with using the DAQmx functions you can browse through Hardware I/O examples in the Example Finder.
Open up a new LabVIEW VI and then go to Help -> Find Examples -> Hardware Input and Output [folder] -> DAQmx -> Digital Measurements
Now, as you probably know, copying and pasting code is inefficient and it's not a good programming practice. So what I would do is create the code for your conversion process and then simply change the channel constant to read the digital output you need.

  • In Labview 8.5, what happens if the signal input exceeds the signal input range set by the DAQ Assistant?

    Hello all,
This should be a pretty simple question, but I can't seem to find the answer on-line and don't currently have the capabilities to test this:
I'm using LabVIEW 8.5 and have a VI that imports sensor data through the DAQ Assistant. In the configuration tab there is a signal input range. What happens if my sensor exceeds this range? Will I get a warning? Will the value default to the maximum (or minimum)? I was interested in writing in some code to display an error as I approach the limits of this range, but was unsure if I also needed to include some code to display an error if the range is exceeded as well.
    Thanks for the help,
    Tristan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Tristan,
The behavior depends on the range you choose and the device you are using.
If you are using a device with only one valid input range, we will use this range even if you set a smaller minimum and maximum in the DAQ Assistant.  Thus, if your device only supports ±10V and you set the range to ±8V, you will still continue to get valid data after your sensor exceeds 8V until you approach 10V.  Once you reach the limit of the range of your device, the output will "rail" and just return the maximum value until the signal drops below the maximum again.
Note: A device that is nominally ±10V usually has some overshoot (like ±10.2V) that is typically specced in the manual.
However, if you are using a device with multiple input ranges then things get more complex.
The NI-DAQmx drive will pick the smallest range that fully encompasses the range you choose.  So, suppose your device supports the following input ranges: ±0.2V, ±1, ±5V, and ±10V and you choose 0V - 3V as the range in the DAQ assistant.  The NI-DAQmx driver is going to look at your input range and the list of input ranges that your hardware supports and choose the smallest that encompasses the full range you set.  This would the ±5V, because that's the only range that contains up to 3V.  As a result, any input signal between ±5V will be returned and any outside this range will "rail" to either the maximum or minimum value.
We do this because using smaller ranges make more effective use of the resolution of the ADC.  Thus we try to use the most efficient range based on what you request without picking a range that will cause you to miss data.
Let me know if I can clarify this further.

  • Error message from labview when trying to set up the DAQ assistant

I recieve a message from labview when I try to set up the DAQ assistant and select a channel to use. The error I get states "An exception occured within the external code called by a Call Library Node. This might have corrupted LabView's memory. Save any work to a new location and restart labview". Labview then freezes. I have reset the DAQ device in trying to slove this but I still get the same message. How do I solve this?? thanks - mars2006

    Hi Mars-
It sounds like your NI-DAQ installation may have become corrupted. I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the DAQmx 7.4 driver to correct this problem and ensure that you're up to date. This download is available here: NI-DAQ 7.4
If the problem persists you may want to uninstall and reinstall LabVIEW and then NI-DAQ in that order. The error message will usually give an indication as to which VI the error occurred in. Please let us know which VI is failing if you're unable to avoid the error with these suggestions.
