Lacie D2 NOT Mounting

so i've had this external hardrive for a while now, and it mounted on my G4 imac, my recently returned Intel iMac, but it won't mount on my new G5 iMac. I have another x-drive, by allcomdata that mounts via firewire as well. When I use disk utility to confirm, it shows up, but without the mounting option. I also use disk warrior to repair any problems on it. Can someone advise on this? I need to access a few files saved on the x-drive. Much appreciated in advance.

ok, so i tried resetting that SMU, and unplugged everything, waited a few then re-plugged everything and powered up. I even changed ports on the iMac to see if it was a faulty port. It still doesn't show up on the desktop, but it shows in Disk Utility. I tried all the support on Lacie's site but still, unsuccessful. Anyway, in Disk Utility, it doesn't allow me to mount or repair permissions on it. It only gives me the options to eject, verify and repair disk. Additionally, verifuing and repairing shows no problems. What gives?!

Lacie drive not mounting after updating to 10.4.8

Hi,
I have a 160gb Lacie d2 external hd, and after updating my OS to 10.4.8 in October, it will not mount. It's recognized in Disk Utility, but will not mount. I've tried repairing disk permissions from both my current OS and from the installer DVD, but it isn't helping and I keep getting the same message.
When I first updated to 10.4.8 in October, my computer had problems re-starting (it would get stuck at the blue boot-up screen), so I had to turn it off by holding the power button. Ever since then, the lacie drive won't mount.
Is there anything else I can do? I've thought about trying Disk Warrior, but if possible I'd like to save the $100 to buy it!
Any advice? I would really appreciate it.

What I think.
The major changes occurred in the 10.4 original Tiger release. Due to the nature of what I believe the problem is 10.4.7 would just be changing how, where and when the issue(s) become most noticeable to you and not solve it. It will leave you hangin' somewhere else. This I/O API does effect everything. I only wanted to finish a movie with iMovie and set some clips at 00:05 f as I have done forever. Bought a new MacBook Pro specifically for OS X.4 and iMovie and all that was over. iMovie as well as many other Universal apps are IMO mostly non functional except at the OS and QT interface. All other Universal apps and devices cause it to choke and sputter as things pass through this very same I/O API that is causing the external HD issues. As for the PB G4, I was believing the age of the machine to be causing these failures then I had noticed many others developing the same issues on newer G4 machines. Most puzzling was the performance hit on the machines with the proper HW especially larger Core Image supported graphics cards as 10.4 has made this a very relevant piece of HW now. The more I read about the how's and why's of the changes in the architecture of the OS in the Developer Connection the more I realized that many issues that seem so unrelated are indeed caused by the same area and or error in this API. iTunes, Safari, iMovie, iPhoto, -.. CPU's, Fans, HD's, jpegs choking G5's and intels-.. plug n play's that worked yesterday not today, same machines/HW new OS.
Photoshop CS and, an extremely resource greedy, 3D Modeling/database application running in Rosetta works fine. Animating 3D graphics on the fly without so much as a stutter everything calm and quiet. Open Safari and the comp gets too hot to handle the fans are screaming just displaying basic window graphics here at the Apple Discussion boards. Most times this is a text only forum for me as the MPB can't even process the window graphics, often the original posts push-pin graphic is the only one that will display.
AFAICT Rosetta is just an application with no graphic user interface and it is not Universal Binary therefore avoiding this I/O kit as it was designed for the specific configuration of the MacIntel only and works fine. Apple's iLife and iWork apps especially, as well as any SW using this I/O Kit API for Universal Binary apps don't work properly. Anyone with a later G4 and especially a G5 with a good, Core Image supported, graphics card should be feeling like they have a new machine, not saying "hey my stuff isn't working anymore" or slow imports of files or processing.
Personally I would:
Start up from 10.3 install discs, back up my docs to external HD and re-partition the internal HD. At least two, IMO three partitions (do not journal OS partitions) would be the least. Install 10.3.9 on one 10.4+ on the (an)other. Docs on the third. Keep the OS partitions as small as possible while allowing for OS's extra "operating space". 3.9 only requires about 2-5 GB's above required space to install while OS 10.4 seems to need 5-10 GB that is always "free" depending on what you are doing and also allowing for any OS and app. updates that may come before the next OS X release. 3.9 is already maxed so one can assume no new news here.
My G4's HD set up is 6 partitions as it is now mainly a slave hub between my MBP and my "legacy" products PB G3, serial devices, Zip drives, modems, SCSI devices, scanners, printers old apps/file formats. Apps and HW that are still useful but "max out" at a certain OS/comp configuration are installed on that OS's partition, i.e. QT w/MPEG-2, Virtual PC, or Photoshop plugins that were never developed or not worth the investment for OS X or the current release as they are not used often enough etc.
5GB-9.2.2, 10GB-10.2, 15GB- 10.3.9, 20GB-10.4.6, 15 GB Apps. 35GB docs. Nothing gets written to any OS partitions unless absolutely required. All OS's share the apps they can (except 9 apps) and document partition. As far as I understand I should be able to use XGrid to use these other computers processors through the MBP. A "super computer" kind of set up with the G4 at the least, but documentation indicates it should work on any OS X so possibly my G3 as well which stopped at 10.1.
You do not have to duplicate apps and I would install and update all through 3.9 even if you install them in the 10.4 Apps. folder. At most you may need to create a couple of folders in the OS's System Library for Application Support or plug-ins etc. If you fear one OS reading from the other's Library/System files you can unmount the other OS volumes but I have yet to see this happen without intentionally directing the OS to do so.
I would do all my external back ups and device communication (cameras, HD's MIDI's etc) booting in 10.3 only. For me the G4 booted in Target disk mode seems to be the safest way to access an "external HD" via FW with the MBP. I have had zero problems with this method. A two step process for files that don't reside on the G4 but I'd rather be safe than sorry and I have already lost one HD that was completely unrecoverable (a mechanical rebuild lead to the discovery of overwritten files with driver type data and damaged disk surface from arcing). Small files I just access on the external HD's through G4 over the airport network. I have not used Bonjour in depth yet though will most likely incorporate that into everyday use as I was able to quickly transfer a few very large files to a friends MacBook with it. Used this Just after realizing the MBP lacks IRDA and neither of us had any cables with us.
The above type of configuration would give you the ability to move forward with 10.4 and easily work around HW, SW and connectivity issues by booting into 10.3 when needed. This is a great way of trouble shooting OS and app issues. My MBP already has a partition waiting for Leopard. If the OS lacks something or has problems of it's own I can boot back into 10.4 quickly and easily. If all is well with Leopard 10.4 will definitely be removed. The G4 will never see Leopard except over a network.
Sorry to be long winded. Hope this gives you some reasonable ideas. In a nutshell. I believe the problem is that the OS and QT are set to higher, more accurate standards (ISO's MPEG's, SMTP's, IEEE's etc) than in the past and the I/O API is unable to communicate/calculate and transfer the information properly between devices and apps.
BTW when your LaCie appears to have given up the ghost and will not respond at all, before you toss the whole thing remove the HD and put it in a different enclosure. I have dealt with hundreds of these and the Firewire ports on the PC board become too hot and melt off. Repair is not possible and although this is a known issue with LaCie no attempts have been made to correct this and they will not sell you a service part to repair it. Replacement would require removal and replacement of two screws and two plugs. Most HD's I have removed are Western HD's and work fine in a new enclosure.

System Profiler Crashes Lacie ext not mounting

Sometime after updating to 10.4.9, I noticed my external Lacie firewire is not mounting. I have disconnected/reconnected Lacie HD. I have ran Permissions from direct CD, reset PRAM, HD not visual in DiskUtility, Diskwarrior, or System Profiler. When I launch System Profiler and check fireware, SP crashes. The report reads:
Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
I have not moved Apple apps around. SP is able to run other checks just not firewire. How can check my fireware connections?

Lacie USB not mounting

I have both a 500gb and a 250gb Lacie USB external drives. Recently the 250gb wont mount on my desktop. i've tried unplugging and re plugging, switched the cables between the two but nothing works. it did eventually mount yesterday but again today it refuses to mount. the 500gb harddrive is fine.
the 250 also appears in my system profiler and in my disk utilities. i've repaird disk and permissions, but nothing will make it appear on my desktop.
any help would be greatly appreciated as the drive contains all my music and photos that i dont want to loose.

This is to assure you your photos are fine (I think). My LaCie drive is a DVD, but it has the same problem. LaCie (or someone) claimed it first occurred after MacOSX 10.4.8 was updated, and appears a problem between LaCie's software & Mac's. Various kludges have been suggested, and they all work at times: plugging the cables in carefully (Mac's astute advice), plugging in a different USB (or Firewire) device first (to 'stabilize' the bus), switching between USB & Firewire, & I've found a cold reboot with the drive plugged in occasionally works. I've found that even when an icon doesn't appear on my desktop, some Cocoa applications can access the drive. So if you're really worried about your photos, or frustrated, I might suggest seeing whether Darwin has mounted your drive: just type 'mount' on the 'Terminal' and look for it. If so, why not try a free X11 application until LaCie (or Apple) fixes the problem?

Internal Lacie drive not mounting

I am having trouble with my lacie drive. I mounted it internally because the firewire port went bad. The lacie was working fine for about 1 month and now it won't mount. It shows up greyed out in the disk utility and when I try to repair permissions I get this message:
Verify and Repair disk “LACIE”

** Phase 2 - Check Cluster Chains
** Phase 3 - Checking Directories
Unable to read directory (Invalid argument)

***Would anyone be able to figure out my next move? I have a lot of data on this hard drive and it is currently Inaccessible.

It looks like the FAT file system is corrupted and beyond the ability of Disk Utility to repair it.
I think you should try another disk repair utility. A discussion at macosxhints.com says Disk Utility can't repair FAT file systems and suggests DiskWarrior:

I use Techtool Pro (the "pro" version of Techtool Deluxe that's bundled with AppleCare) but I'm not sure if it can repair FAT file systems, either.
I strongly recommend that you back up the data on the disk and reformat it as HFS+.

Here's his dillemma:
I just tried transferring some mp3s from a 2 terrabyte Western Digital hard drive and it was DOS formatted so that it would read a bunch of files from a third hard drive but when I was trying to copy files over to my LaCie terrabyte HD that was just replaced It froze up and then My LaCie would not mount after restarting . It does show up in utilites with the bottom part shaded out in gray. I try to repair the disc and get this message:
Verifying volume â€œLaCie Diskâ€
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Incorrect block count for file .journalHistoryLog
(It should be 9 instead of 11)
Invalid node structure
The volume LaCie Disk needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

"Invalid node structure" is a serious directory error.
Try Disk Warrior to rebuild your directory but I don't know if it could mount the volume.
Your other option, since the disk shows but the volume does not is to choose it, erase disk and format either Mac OS Extended (Journeled) or, MS-DOS to be readable on both Mac and PC.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my LaCie USB 3 drive will not mount

I just upgraded my OS to 10.8 and now my LaCie P'9230 USB 3.0 external drive will not mount. I have re-installed the USB driver and re-booted the computer and drive several times to no avail; any ideas/help?

It's my understanding that LaCie hasn't released a Mountain Lion driver for their PCIe card yet. Sonnet uses a modified version of the LaCie driver and theirs is dead in the water too for that reason-they also warn that their driver won't work with 10.7.5 when it's released.
Indeed, yesterday I pulled the Sonnet USB 3.0 card from my Mac Pro and replaced it with a CalDigit card from OWC; CalDigit has separate drivers for 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 and I can say that the card works with all three, the first time in 1.5 years that I've had a reliable USB 3.0 connection.

Hi Veena, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
And you've tried choosing the volume and pressing the "Mount " icon on the tool bar of Disk Utility?
Have you shut down your Mac and disconnected your firewire cable from both ends and let it sit about ten minutes then reconnect and try. Also, it is important to disconnect the AC power to your Mac, this helps to reset the FireWire port(s).
Do you have TTP or DW, both of which you could use to try to mount it.
It is also possible that you have a bad cable or a bad port, do other FW devices work?

I have a lacie drive attached to my airport but it will not mount

I have an Aiport Extreme and I just purchased a Lacie 2d Quadra drive to attach to it. However, it will not mount. I have tried to power it off and on, replaced the USB cable but it will not wake up. The blue light will flicker for a moment then go dark. I have a new MacBook Pro but I cannot connect to it. Any ideas? Thanks.

This arrow next to your Battery symbol at the top of your phone means you are playing some sort of music or sound.
To make sure you are not do the following:
Press your Home button twice quicky
You should now have a list of open apps. Hold down the App and press the red button. This does not delete the app but it closes it.
Once these steps are complete if the arrow is gone, you are all set!

Firewire 800 port on new MBP not mounting Lacie rugged 500GB drive

I've just purchased the new MBP 17" and my Lacie Rugged 500GB drive will not mount.
It will mount over USB though.
I've tried three different FW800 cables and no result.
There are some posts around 10.5.7 update issues, but I've tried everything listed and no dice.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had a Western Digital My Passport Studio model like that. It has nothing to do with cables or your laptop. It has to do with manufacturers who fail to adhere to the proper power standards for the interface. Basically, if the drive demands more power then the port will give, it is never going to work.
I returned my WD to Apple for a refund, and instead tried a SeaGate FreeAgent Go firewire 800 drive. It has worked flawlessly over Firewire on my MacBook Pro, and it even came with both a Fire 800 cable, a firewire 800-to-400 cable, a USB cable, and a special USB power cable so you could draw additional power off the USB ports if a firewire 800 port wasn't putting out sufficient power. That's why I bought it - figured one way or another it had to be able to work on bus power (even if it had taken both the firewire and USB bus in combo to do it).
Another option I've had good luck with in the past is OWC Mercury on the Go drives (eshop.macsales.com). These have always worked fine on bus power for me, but they also have an optional external power supply too, just in case.

I am trying to connect my LaCie thunderbolt 2 5big drives to my new Mac Pro. They will not mount. If I unplug them and plug them into my MBP they mount immediately

Have you tried one at a time? Have you tried different ThunderBolt ports?
What display are you using and what port is it plugged into? You may want to be sure your drives and your displays are not on the same bus.

LaCie External drive not mounting

I just got a drive back from drivesavers.com it's supposed to contain all the recovered info from my Macbook Pro. However, when I connect the drive to any of my Macs the drive does not mount. Also, when I go to disk utility, there is no new drive listed in the left, only the 4 drives that are in my tower. Anyone ever have this problem.
The drive they sent is a LaCie 320GB drive with all the connection types (usb2,fw400/800,esata) I've tried them all except for the esata.

May have to pull the drive and try it in another enclosure. That enclosure could have a bad power supply, a bad bridge board or just a faulty connector.
The eSATA connection is last in the chain, I would not bother to try it. Since the drive is attached through the Firewire bridge, then through another bridge to eSATA, if FW isn't working eSATA is most unlikely to have any chance at all.
If the drive inside the LaCie is a SATA drive then you could install it directly into a drive bay in your MacPro. If it is an ATA drive then you might try it in the optical bay, which is ATA, or another Firewire enclosure that takes ATA drives. Either way is a better choice when the enclosure is not giving you good results. Only need it mounted long enough to pull the data, so a permanent install isn't necessary.

Lacie HD will not mount to Macbook Air...

Ok, I have a Lacie Rugged 1TB HD. My 24'' iMac (running Snow Leopard) reads it fine. But my new Macbook Air (running Mountain Lion) does not recognize it. The HD does not show up in Disk Utility on the Air either. I have taken all the date from the HD and backed it up on a separate external HD. After that, I erased the Lacie and reformated it to the "Mac OS Extended" and the Macbook Air still will not mount to the Lacie external.
Is there anything I can do to get the Macbook Air to mount to the Lacie HD? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you used other external drives on the air before? Are you using thunderbolt or USB? If you bought your air from apple you should take it in to a store and have them check the ports. You could run an extended hardware test, although I'm not sure if that would check the ports working ability.

LaCie HD does not mount via Firewire, but does via USB (in Tiger)

I've read various posts on issues people faced when using a LaCie firewire HD after upgrading to Tiger. I never had any issues pre upgrade. I have installed the new firmware on my d2 250GB drive, at least I think I have. The drive will not mount when connected via firewire, but will when connected via USB. When I try running the update tool, it sees the drive and says there is no update available. Just to be clear, this is when the drive is connected via USB. The tool does not see the drive when connected via Firewire.
My firewire is definitely working fine (tested with iSight).
I've emailed LaCie, we'll see if that leads to anything. Any ideas???

My Lacie ethernet mini is not working after Lion upgrade.
Finally got an admission from Lacie that the login software won't work with 10.7 and they suggested going back to Snow Leopard . . .
Apparently the login software cannot be changed or overwritten so now Lacie drives are obsolete when using Lion.
I wish there was a way to wipe it clean and use it without the login software, but they couldn't suggest a way.
I note you may have had better luck but I don't know how to use terminal, so I may have to junk it, or possibly take out the drive and buy a caddy for it?

Why will my Lacie Thunderbolt drive not mount?

Yesterday my laptop died during an export, with my hard drive plugged in. Upon restarting I noticed the drive would not mount or appear anywhere on my computer (disk utility, system profiler, finder etc) I at first assumed there may have been damage to the drive, so attempted to use it on another computer. However upon plugging it in, it mounted perfectly and worked great, but still can not be seen by my computer. All other drives mount fine, it is only with this drive, on my comptuer where there is an issue.
Anyone else ever expierence something like this?

very likely a bad SATA bridge card.
The data bridge between the USB /Thunderbolt cable and the actual HD accounts for about 90% of all such occurances.
If so it means your HD is fine, rather the enclosure and bridge need to be changed.
Is your a HD or a SSD by Lacie ? (these contain Seagate HD if its a conventional HD).
