LACIE DVD burner not working

I just bought a DVD burner and put in a DVD movie to watch and nothing happened. It is used so no software came with it and it did reconize the DVD, tell me i didn't buy a bad burner

jerzee boy,
If you added the DVD to a Mac that iniatially came without one, you'll need to install software to actually play the movies on a DVD (e.g., DVD Player, VLC Player, or search VersionTracker). You may need to reinstall DVD-related software as described in Using Restore discs with computers that ship with Mac OS X 10.3.7 or later.
What model LaCie burner did you buy and from what source? All the LaCie's I've seen have come with a CD with software for use with the drive.

  • LaCie DVD Burner not working since Snow Leopard update

Hi there, I'm searching the web for this one for some time now. Since I upgraded my MacBook to Snow Leopard (Currently I'm on 10.6.4) my LaCie DVD Burner doesn't work anymore.
The external DVD burner is connected trough USB to my MacBook and it was always working nicely. But since the upgrade to snow leopard the macbook doesn't even 'see' him anymore. I used to use Toast Titanium to burn my disks, but since the upgrade this tool doesn't recognize the DVD burner anymore.
Is this a known issue? In the mac info I can't see the LaCie burner.
Hope you guys can help me out on this one!
    Regards,
    Douwe Pieter van den Bos

I just noticed a problem with my Lacie dvd/cd superdrive also. I install any disk blank or formatted and the drive just hums and clicks and opens up the tray. I contacted Lacie and they don't even have the drive on the lists of products they sell. I wrote them an email and we cleared that up (took several days). It took me 8 days before I finally got fed up with dumb questions like "did you try another power supply?" Where am I going to get another one of those? How could the problem possibly be a power supply when the drive is recognized in Disk Utility, System Profiler etc. I can open and close the tray by pushing the tray button or open the tray from Disk Utility. They basically wanted a blank check for me to send them the drive to have it fixed.
My question is it possible I somehow affected the drive during my last upgrade? Or is it just a dirty laser? Is it worth getting a cleaning disk? Do they work even if Pioneer doesn't recommend using them? Maybe someone knows if I could at least use the chassis and get a newer better drive?
What really bothers me is that it cost well over 2 hundred when I got it and I've used it less than
    8 times to burn.

  • Lacie DVD Burner not working on my G5

I just got my first external DVD burner--LaCie 16x External FireWire and USB 2.0 Dual Layer DVD Burner in d2 Design (Mfr# 300978) selling for $140 in most places--and I’m having all kinds trouble. DVDs and CDs not mounting seems to be the biggest problem. I bought one last week and it worked erratically from the get-go—but it burned great discs.
So I exchanged it today for another of the same model. It worked well for an hour or so and then it began having problems mounting DVDs. Then I burned 4 DVDs on it and 2 were lemons. Also, it make a unhealthy-sounding squeaky noise when it was burning. And now it won’t mount any DVDs.
I’m I missing something here? I’m running 10.3.9. I have a 1.6 ghz single processor G5. Is there a make and model that’s now all the rage with you guys out there?
    Thanks!

    1. There is a LaCie DVD D2 updater at the LaCie support site.
    2. They are VERY media fussy - try Verbatim media, if that works the media you are using is being rejected - the LaCie's have a wealth of meaningless error messages when they are upset including "unstable firewire connection" and various "medium sense errors", and they all boil down to it hates the media you are using.
Only Verbatim DL DVD+R work so far - none of the others will, period. Ritek, Fuji, etc.

  • DVD burning not working after upgrading to 10.5.1

    Hi,
I just purchased a macbook and found that dvd burning stopped working after upgrading to mac os 10.5.1. I went back to 10.5 and now it works without problems. Since so far I haven't experience problems with 10.5, I will continue using it.
Anyway, I just wanted to let other users know about this problem. I didn't find any references about it in the forum.
    Best wishes,
    Manuel

    Hi,
I just got DVD burning to work under 10.5.1. I had originally formatted the OS-X partition as "case sensitive". Today I reformatted the partition as a regular Mac-os journaled partition, re-installed leopard and the upgrade, and now DVD burning works fine. I am not 100% sure, but it seems that using the case sensitive format caused the problem.

  • New DVD burner not working w/iTunes

Okay, I've been working on this and digging through these forums for awhile now. I'm still stumped. So here we go:
I had a new DVD burner installed. I'm using Nero software which works fine for DVD, data, etc. However, iTunes gives me the "disc burner or software not found" message if I try to burn a disc from iTunes.
I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes (yes, latest version) twice now. No go.
In edit>preferences>advanced>burning CD burner: still shows the old CD-RW.
iTunes will recognize and play prerecorded CDs and ask if I want to import them.
In help>diagnostics>CD/DVD drive tests, after putting in a prerecorded CD as requested: Optical drive detected IS the correct device (D: ASUS DRW-1814BL) BUT I get a red dot with "no audio CD found" yet the songs are showing in the device window (in actual iTunes behind the diagnostic window).

I have uninstalled all virtual drive software, including Daemon Tools, PowerISO, and MagicDisc.
I have followed the article pointed out in an earlier thread involving editing the registry to remove 3rd party filters.
Okay... that's as much info as I can think of. Help?

Do you by any chance have Daemon tools? They are know to cause drive recongnition problems with this error number.

  • DVD Burner not working in Mac Mini

My mac mini (running OSX 10.7.5) all of a sudden stopped burning/reading DVDs, however CD burning and reading still works.
I ran my system's disk utility and corrected some problems and tried again to no avail. I tried a previously burned DVD which did not work either. However, after trying several DVDs, I got the burner to work (or at least it appeared to as it went thru the usual messages of recording my iDVD movie, but when the recording message showed DONE, the screen appeared to freeze there (typically, at this point, I usually get a message that asks if I want to burn another) --I was able to hit cancel to exit the program. Anyways, the DVD did not burn. At this point on the plus side, I can now read my previously burned DVD... so I tried again to burn my iDVD Movie again but it just spits out after 15-30 seconds.
I saw on some boards that I should try cleaning the burner? Do I have to take my system apart to do this? Do I use a cleaning disk? If this is the case, will my DVD acknowledge it if it isn't working? Or do I just spray compressed air into its slot?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is for a job that I need to get out.
    Thanks so much!

Yes use a CD/DVD cleaning disk

It could be that the burning laser died. Different lasers are used for CD and DVD burning

I have a Ricoh dvd+rw burner that was working fine until I switched to Tiger. I used patchburn on both startup discs (I have 2 different partitions) and now the other partition with panther will not work either. the only change I made was the change to tiger. I get a no sense code message on both of the drives. I tried to burn with the finder, disk utility, toast 7 titanium, firestarter, ddragon burn, and iTunes with no luck. I would appreciate Any information that anyone has on htis situation

    G4 400mhz, 640 mb ram   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi
    Is this internal or external?
Does it show up in Apple System Profiler?
If it's external, try the other FireWire port.
What version Tiger, and have you tried re-running the Combo 10.4.6 updater?
Have you tried from a different admin User account?
Have you tried a DVD lens cleaning disc?

  • External DVD burner not working

I have LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S DVD burner attached to my Mac via USB.
When I turn burner on, Mac OS successfully detects it and even ask me to mount blank dvd to my desktop. Also I see burner in Disk Utility as well as in the list of available burners in Toast 7. I can even open and close tray and write CDs, BUT not DVDs. There is some error happening in Toast or any other soft when I trying to burn dvd disk.
Also, I just noticed that in System Profiler in Disc Burning section there is information that Burn support is unsupported.
Is my burner unsupported by Mac OS X and I will not be able to write DVD disks with it?

    Hi Sabanin,
don't panic. Download and install this: Patchburn
    This should solve your problem.

  • DVD burn not working

My PowerPC 65 running 10.4.6 and iLife 06 all of a sudden won't burn a DVD. Have burned several in the last 2 weeks with no issues. Today, in iDVD during the multiplexing and burning process, the computer would spit the DVD out with a general message that there was an error.
My drive is a SONY DVD RW DW-U21A
Tried to just burn a data DVD and this error message popped up:"Communication to the disc drive failed" Error Code 0x8002022
I have lots of student dvds to burn and this sounds bad....
Can anyone advise? My students and I would greatly appreciate help!

    Hi
    Could be a hardware or software related issue;
Try restarting the Mac & resetting PRAM & NVRAM .
Try a different brand of media. Just because one batch of one brand worked before, is no guarantee that the entire batch is good, make sure you're using a known quality brand (not generic or Memorex).
Try a DVD lens cleaning disc, available @ any office supply store.
Ideally, have all the files related to the project are in the same location in case the issue is resource-related.
You could also have file fragmentation, which will require a utility app such as TTP4 to rectify, unless you have an extra HDD/Partition and can wipe the existing and then transfer the data back in one shot.
If you do need a need drive, they are only $40 or less online (DVR-111D, ND-3550A)

  • External Lacie DVD burner not being recognized

Maybe I'm doing things in the wrong order - I put a Sony DVD into the external burner and then click on the burn tab in DVD Studio Pro. But I get a message saying to put a burnable DVD into the optic drive. When I put the DVD into the internal drive, it's recognized. I never had a problem with the external burner. Am I doing something wrong?

I also have a Lacie burner and although they claim that one no longer needs to download their disc recording support with 10.4 or later, I had to install it because my system (10.5 at the time) wouldn't recognize it (if you recall, Mac OS did not recognize or support external burning in the old days, but is supposed to now - for whatever reason, it did not on mine without installing the Lacie software).
So, you might try first to see if your burner is listed in HD/Library/DiscRecording/Device Profiles. Mine has a file there: LaCie.drprofile from 2008. If you don't have a file there, try going to their support site and downloading the DiscRecording Support; it's an old file, but I've not had a problem with mine.

  • Dual Layer DVD burns not working......

I tried 4 different times, but to no avail. I took one of the burns & utilized a program to extract the Video_TS file, then used Toast to burn it - failed on verification (Toast has never burned a dual layer disc successfully for me on either of my burners). Is there a problem with iDVD not encoding discs properly when using dual layer media? That stuff is expensive & I get tired of creating 80 cent coasters. The other thing that bugs me is that the Apple factory burner only supports DVD+DL media (I will be rectifying that soon with a different internal burner - a Pioneer, not a crappy Hitachi). Any input into this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    hey ara,
it's not about a disc that will work like all pressed discs out there.
it's just that most dual layer discs are dvd+r and most set-top dvd players can only read dvd-r discs.
if you want to look at your burned dual layer discs, look at them in a computer environment.
the lack of compatibility has nothing to do with DVDSP.

  • La Cie external DVD burner not working with OSX 10.5.2

Every time I try to burn a DVD with my external drive I get an error message sayng that the connection is not stable. I have double checked all my connections and everything is fine yet I cannot burn DVDs or CDs. Any ideas????

I have had the burner for about 2 years and was working fine. Worked even after I upgraded to OSX 10.5. Tried to use it the other day, and this problem occurred. Not sure if it happened after the update to 10.5.2.

  • DVD burner not working Error code 0x80020022 & 0x8002006E

When I try to burn a DVD I get the following errors . (Error code 0x80020022) & (0x8002006E)
When I put a dvd movie in it will show on the desktop and play in dvd Player.
It will show a CD in the finder and will play it in the finder and in iTunes. iTunes is can also burn CD.
I have brunt some dvds in the past month but it was hit and miss. Now I can not burn any dvds.
I booted up my iMac from my MacBook when I go to burn the dvd I get the same error. So now I'm not to sure if it is a software issue. I have also done a restart while holding P & R "option & Apple" to reset the Pram.
I'm going to erase the HD tonight and reinstall OS 10.5 to see if that fixes the problem.
If there is anything more I can do please let me know. I dont mind replacing the Supper Drive but I dont want to spend the money if that is not going to fix the problem.

I keep getting this code come up when i try to burn 0x80020022. My imac is 8 months old, and after looking on mac forums the only thing that seems to work is to go in and play around with the international system prefs. It will then burn a CD, although very slowly. A week later I go to burn a cd and this happens again! This surely can't be right with an 8 month old machine, and does this mean my DVD drive is going to die soon? I can't keep having to adjust the prefs every week.
    Does anybody have any answers?
    Cheers

  • DVD Burner not working on iBook

I have a G3 PowerBook (Pismo) and I am running OS X 10.4.4. I use an external Firewire enclosure with an HP DVD Writer 200i. Everything works flawlessly. Today, a friend of mine wanted to use the drive on an iBook to burn a movie from iDVD. I plugged it in via Firewire on the iBook and nothing happens. The drive does not show up in the System Profiler at all. Under Firewire it just says supports up to 400 MBits or whatever, doesn't even say that there's a Firewire device attatched.
This has left my stumpped. The iBook is running OS X 10.4.4 as is my Pismo. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this strange problem.

    Any one have any suggestions?
