LaCie DVD RW Burn Error

Hi all, Can anyone give me advice on this problem ? I have a new LaCie DVD rewriter (Model= LaCie D2 Dual DVD+RW Drive) I have had some success in burning DVD's but keep getting burn errors !!! I have an iMac G4 and I am using Toast 7 Titanium. I have used Verbatim DVD-R and Sony DVD-R and out of about 25 discs,(of each media type), only 5 have burned successfully ! I have tried burning at a slower speed (4x)....... still no joy ! The strange thing is that when I try to burn first thing in the morning, it works fine ????, then as soon as I try again, they repeatedly fail ! Costing me a fortune in wasted blank DVD's !!!!! I tried re-launching the Finder before burning but still consistant errors ! I have re-installed both the LaCie and Toast 7 Titanium twice and the problem still occurs !!!!......... Now I'm close to crazy and can't think of anything else to try to solve the problem ???? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. With thanks for your time !
iMAC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   LaCie D2 Dual DVD+RW Drive / Toast 7 Titanium

Hello again ! ......... I think I spoke too soon ! After one successful burn this morning I am now still getting burn errors ? "Buffer Under-Run" at 4x ??? I can't select any slower ? and also a simple "Disc failed to be written"
I have made sure the iMac is not running any other application whilst burning and is not connected to the internet. I am burning from a Video TS folder which I have checked and it is ok. I am creating a Disk Image via DU first then copying to folder in movies then burning via Toast 7 Titanium. This was very successful on my first try this morningwith a great result !
I just can't understand why I can burn one disc ok then get constant errors. The only successful burns I have made have been first thing in the morning when I start up my iMac G4, after that I have repeatedly failed burns. Could this be relevant ? I have also tried re-starting before setting up a burn and shutdown. Still no joy !
Any help or advice you Guys can give would be appreciated. I am slowly losing the will to live !

  • External Lacie DVD/CD burner not working

    Hello,
I'll try to keep this brief. I'm trying to help my brother with a problem that arose today with his Lacie DVD/CD burner. He uses a Mac G4, firewire 800. It quit recognizing media. Same (blank) media as he's always used, but it says that the disk is full. Wouldn't even recognize a movie he had created and burned onto the DVD, using the same burner in question. His computer recognizes the Lacie. He went out and bought a brand new Lacie today and he has the exact same problems, so we're assuming it's his computer and not the Lacie? This is so puzzling, since before today he had no problems. If anyone out there has any suggestions, we'd surely appreciate hearing them.
    Thank you in advance.

xabbess, did you figure this out?
I am experiencing the same issue with my Lacie DVD burner (LaCie 20x d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe) not recognizing certain blank media. It will only recognize and burn DVD-Rs, and even that only works sporadically (I've tested DVD+Rs & -Rs from various brands recommended by Lacie). I've tested it on the two computers I have - a Mirrored Door Dual G4 and an iBook G4 both running 10.4.11 at the time - with the exact same results. But it did seem to work fine on an Intel iMac at the tech support office at the place I bought it at (MicroTech). So, I'm thinking the DVD burner is okay and that maybe it's just a compatibility issue with my computers or the OS I'm using.
So, I'm wondering if anyone out there has experienced this, and has figured out the problem. I've just recently installed Leopard 10.5.5 on my iBook G4, but I haven't had a chance to test the DVD burner on it. When I do, I'll post the results.

  • OSX DVD/CD Burner Error Code - HELP!

Hey everyone. I hope someone might be able to help me out with a problem I am having.
I just purchased a Plextor DVD/CD burner, and every time I put a blank in it, it gives me an error code (0x80020025). I thought it just might be my burner, but I tried to burn a disc with my buddy's Lacie, and had the same issue. The drive reads all discs fine, it just won't let me set it up to burn one.
Can anyone help, please?! Thank you all so much.

The drive is an external drive. It is a Plextor PX-740UF. I am running it with USB. Just to let you know, I had the same issue with my buddy's Lacie drive when I plugged it in.
The drive recognizes everything BUT unburned discs. When I put one in and I try to open it in Finder, or in iTunes, it gives me that error code.
I have also tried to do the force quit from Finder, and then re-launching, but this doesn't help either.
    Thanks for your help.

  • DVD-R burn error "medium write error"

Just received a refurbished iMac today. Doing a basic Disc Copy from Disk Utility and burn one disc OK. The second disc ejects half way through burn and "medium write error" pops up. All the disc I pull out are blazing hot as well. I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
I am trying another burn now. Has anybody seen this error or had DVD-R burning issues?
    Thanks,
    Adam

I saw this using Toast 9 -- turned out I had turned on the DVD-DL support by accident and I didn't have a DL DVD drive.

  • Data DVD wont burn - error message

    Dear Macsters,
Everytime I try to burn a data dvd, i immediately get this message:
    BURN
sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error code 0x8002006D).
It only does this when i set the burn at 1x. At 2x it burns.
    I have osx 10.4.8, early g4 17" laptop, superdrive (dvd-r only).
Is this a burner problem or a software problem??
    Daniel

Manually setting the burn speed on some applications can be problematic.
If it burns at 2X then my guess is thats what you need to do. Burn at 2X.

    Cheers Don
Oh one other thing, older burners are very picky about media.
I suggest you use the very best media, rather than bargin basement cheap media.

  • Question about choosing an external dvd/cd burner

The burning speed listed in my iTunes preferences goes up to 24x, then "Maximum Pssible". I am thinking of purchasing a LaCie DVD/CD burner that has write(48x)/rewrite(32x)/read(40x). When using with my iMac does this mean that I can burn at 48x with the iTunes burning preferences set to Maximum or does the maximum burning capabilities with my iMac top out at 24x?
Also, the internal burner device (a Matshita model) seems to have something called buffer protection. Can anyone explain what buffer protection is and is a mandatory consideration when using second, external player/burners?
    Thanks for any help.

The 24X currently in iTunes is reflecting the speed that is capable of the internal burner in your iMac.
Also, the internal burner device (a Matshita model) seems to have something called buffer protection. Can anyone explain what buffer protection is and is a mandatory consideration when using second, external player/burners?
This is to ensure that your burner does not run out of data while it is burning. If the burner runs out of data, the burn will fail.

  • Can i conect one DVD/CD burner to 2 machines

I have a Lacie DVD/CD burner with 2 firewiere ports.
Is it posible to conect that to both my G4 ppc and my miniMac so they can share it ??

Yes, but not at the same time. The second Firewire port on the external drive is a pass through port so you can connect another Firewire drive. You cannot connect two computers to the same drive at the same time. You will cause damage to the drive and/or the computers.

  • Another LaCie DVD burner problem

Hi. I’m hoping one of you Mac geniuses out there can help me out. I received a LaCie DVD burner for Christmas, and so far, I can not get it to work with any Mac software. The drive will burn from Toast 7 Platinum (which was included with the drive), but that’s it. More details:
    1. LaCie’s DiscRecording would not install (this should have been my first clue!). So I wrote LaCie Tech Support, and they told me how to manually install the software. This involved creating a DiscRecording folder in the Library on my hard drive. Next I created a DeviceProfiles folder in the DiscRecording folder. Then I dragged the “lacie.drprofile” (from their software disc) to the DeviceProfiles folder, and restarted my computer, as per instructions. This should have fixed everything.
    2. I assembled a slide show in iDVD, and went to burn it on my new drive. It whirred for about 3 seconds, and spit out the disc. I received 2 error messages:
    #1. BURNING COMPLETE
    There were some errors:
    Recording engine: internal error occured
    #2. MULTIPLEXER ERROR
There was a problem during multiplexing/burning
    3. So I decided to try saving my slide show as a disk image, and burn it from Disk Utilities. I inserted a DVD+R disc into the drive, it whirred for a few seconds, then told me the blank DVD that I inserted didn’t have enough room to hold my slide show (the file size is 270mb). After reading of other people’s problems here on the forum, I decided to try again, this time with a DVD-R disc (still using Disk Utilities). I inserted the disc, the drive whirred, and....nothing. The burn box said “Waiting for the drive”, only the drive wasn’t doing anything!!! The little lamp signifying drive activity was dark. And the disc wouldn’t eject!
LaCie Tech Support says as long as the drive burns from their software (Toast), everything is OK. I’m stumped. Any ideas? I’m just about ready to take the drive back and get a different brand. Any recommendations? Thanks.

    Buhtwheat,
Thanks for replying. In response to your questions:
Toast will not burn my disk image, it says .img files
    are not supported.
Can you play the image file using Apple's DVD Player application?
This is a critical step - double-click on the image file to mount it on your desktop. Open the DVD Player application (in your Applications folder) - select File>Open DVD media and select the VIDEO_TS folder on the mounted image file. Does it play? If so, iDVD is working. I know you've already tried DU, but please try again -try to use Apple's Disk Utility (in your Applications>Utilities folder) to burn the disk image to writable media. See Burning a disk image file on a CD or DVD in Mac OS X at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006 Does Disk Utility see your burner? What errors do you see?
The Toast version usually shipped with burners is 'crippled' and can't do everything a full version does. What version of Toast do you have - 6 or 7?
Roxio changed the user interfacer in the different versions and the way you things can be very different in the different versions.
    iTunes recognizes the drive.
    I think that's a good sign.

  • Lacie DVD Burner not working on my G5

I just got my first external DVD burner--LaCie 16x External FireWire and USB 2.0 Dual Layer DVD Burner in d2 Design (Mfr# 300978) selling for $140 in most places--and I’m having all kinds trouble. DVDs and CDs not mounting seems to be the biggest problem. I bought one last week and it worked erratically from the get-go—but it burned great discs.
So I exchanged it today for another of the same model. It worked well for an hour or so and then it began having problems mounting DVDs. Then I burned 4 DVDs on it and 2 were lemons. Also, it make a unhealthy-sounding squeaky noise when it was burning. And now it won’t mount any DVDs.
I’m I missing something here? I’m running 10.3.9. I have a 1.6 ghz single processor G5. Is there a make and model that’s now all the rage with you guys out there?
    Thanks!

    1. There is a LaCie DVD D2 updater at the LaCie support site.
    2. They are VERY media fussy - try Verbatim media, if that works the media you are using is being rejected - the LaCie's have a wealth of meaningless error messages when they are upset including "unstable firewire connection" and various "medium sense errors", and they all boil down to it hates the media you are using.
Only Verbatim DL DVD+R work so far - none of the others will, period. Ritek, Fuji, etc.

  • Dual Layer DVD Burn - Error "Mac OS Error -5001"

I have a Powermac G5 dual 1.8 (Machine Model PowerMac7,2) - I upgraded the stock DVD burner to a Lacie Dual Layer burner model SH-S162L Internal. Burns single layer discs and CDs just fine... It will not burn dual layer discs, video_Ts, disc copy, nor data DVD DL's...
I've tried different media, new system install, updating drivers, even contacting Lacie who has sent me a new drive, which I installed today to the same end result of very expensive plastic coasters.
Lacie seems to be no help, and I can't find anything similar on these groups. I'm using Toast 7.0.2. Anyone have any suggestions? My sanity (and DVD budget) are running out! =)

    Hi Christopher,
Please check to see if you have file sharing turned on. In the OS9 era, a -5001 error involved accessing or deaccessing a shared volume, I seem to recall. If file sharing is on, try just turning it off.
    Good Luck,
    John

  • DVD Burn Errors

I have an older PB15 with a UJ-816 burner, 2x max read and write. In the last 2 years, I've burned about 500 disks with variable results.
Most of them have been TDK. These usually work fine except that on some spindles I get errors and have to burn at 1X.
    Apple disks always work fine.
I bought some Memorex 8X disks at Frys ($10/25 disks) and these have been giving me fits.
Disk Utility: Burn sense: 4/03/01 Hardware Error, No write current
Disk Utility: Burn sense: 4/03/00 Hardware Error, Peripheral device write fault
Disk Utility: Discrepancy in block 2188832 at byte 0.

Disk Utility: Burn error: 0x8002006D The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
Disk Utility: Write (10), block: 0, count: 64 -> 3/73/03 Medium Error, Power calibration area error
I can't remember seeing this collection of errors on other media. What is even odder is that these won't work at 1X at all, I have to try at 2X to get any good results at all. Perhaps 1/3 of the burns fail even at 2X. The last 4 burns in a row have failed.
I've gone through a bunch of the really cheap Fry's "Great Quality" media with no errors at all.
Is Memorex known to be a bad brand?
    - gws

I have heard that 2x speed is somewhat "problematic" than other burn rates... and that you have to buy a media that specificaly mentions burning at 2x (I think in reality it's like 2.4x? and that causes some weirdness), or else sometimes it will not work.
I read this somewhere. can't rememebr where. Try buying media where the label specifically mentions 2x and see if that helps (usually you'll have to find a media that is rated slower, which is getting harder to find..)
I use memorex a lot, and it's pretty reliable, at least on my drive, but that doesn't mean much since DVD-RWs are so finicky. (as good as other media I've used. TDK, Fuji, maxell, memorex). the only coasters I've made form memorex are user-induced. I've heard Apple uses Maxell.. you might want to look at their stuff. don't use GQ. I made more coasters using that brand than all others combined.

  • DVD Burning Error: Unknown device error. (0x73, 0x03.)

I have been trying to burn a home movie using iDVD. I transferred the media successfully to my computer, followed all the steps, and was finally ready to burn the DVD. After waiting almost an hour through the burn process, it spit the DVD back out of my Macbook Pro and gave me the following message.
*Errors were found during the burning process:*
*The recording device reported the media error: Unknown device error. (0x73, 0x03.)*
I don't really know what this means. Was the media corrupt? Or is there a problem with my DVD player? I have supplied my DVD and computer information below. I would appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you in advance!

Using the same media I've used for years (Verbatim 4x InkJet printable) and all of a sudden can't burn from the internal drive. I do have an external burner (7 disc standalone replicator with USB/FireWire 400) and hooked that up and burned to a disc from the same spindle with no problem, and then made a 3x replicate with the same media. So it's looking like my MacBook Pro's drive is failing?
