LaCie Harddrive, everything gone?

Dear folks, emergency here:
I am not sure if this is the best forum to put this thread, but I try:
I just tried to open a Logic Pro project from my transportable Lacie 250 GB disc, but it does not respond. When I run Disc utilities / repair disc, the result is frightening:
Repairing disk for “LaCie disk”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Invalid node structure
Rebuilding Catalog B-tree.
The volume LaCie disk could not be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
Repair attempted on 1 volume
0 HFS volumes repaired
1 volume could not be repaired
Sounds bad doesn't it?
The disc has not been treated bad, not dropped on the floor or things like that. It has been in a cold room (like +12 degrees Celsius) but I guess that should not be a problem.
I try to open the files with the same machine as I used them with last time 2 weeks ago; my G4 powerbook.
Is there a chance to get access to the files on that disc? An expensive studio session might be gone.
Best regards from
Oystein

Hi Oystein, glad to hear everything worked out.
Our company has used LaCie drives for years, and we're currently using two 40GB pocket drives, a couple of 250GB drives, 6 400GB drives, and 6 terabyte raids. So far, we've had a problem with one: a 250GB drive would not mount, not with USB or FireWire; neither Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro could fix the problem.
Turns out, it was a defective/broken interface bridge, so both the USB and FireWire connection weren't working. LaCie repaired it under warranty, and they suggested (very politely) user abuse, and said to be careful when plugging and unplugging the cables. The hard drive was a backup for a photographer's workstation, and was connected all the time, so I have to assume a factory defect. But, hey, it happens.
Would I buy more LaCie products? Absolutely. Would I recommend Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro? Absolutely.

hi, I've got itunes music card for my birthday and when I scratched the back to redeem the code everything gone, so no code, what can I do? I've been to tesco to customer service and they told to contact itunes support

These are user-to-user forums. If the page that you posted from doesn't help then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page (you will probably need to give them images of the front and back of the card, and possibly its receipt) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then iTunes Cards And Codes

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Everything gone after iOS 8.1 update!

I installed the update to iOS 8.1 yesterday - iTunes says there is a back up yesterday morning prior to my update.
After the update finally finished. It was stuck in a boot loop toggling between black screen and black screen with apple.
After plugging it in over and over to iTunes for fear my battery would die while it was in the loop, it finally entered a restore mode.  It restored as if it was a new iPad.  Tried to back up from iCloud, nothing available.  Tried to restore from iTunes on computer, nothing.  Everything is GONE with the exception of one webpage shortcut icon and my photos. in iTunes it shows the two apps I was wanting to download just before the update. They are in iTunes and ready to install.
I attempted to restore from backup this morning again and still NOTHING>
This is my personal/busniess iPad and I have many Expensive apps I use daily in my therapy job!
    Is there any hope?
Is there something I can try?
Is the $19.99 they are asking for a service chat worth it??? I do NOT want to pay them more money because of something I feel THEY screwed up.  My iPad worked with NO kinks prior to the update yesterday.
    TIA,
    Desperate......

An iTunes backup doesn't contain any of your iTunes downloads (apps, music etc), it contains things such as your app's settings, documents, files etc - instead the restore looks to pick them from your iTunes library.
As long as the apps are still in your country's store, and you haven't changed countries since buying them, then you should be able redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes, and the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your iPad. If you don't have the apps in your computer's iTunes library then try redownloading them on there and then retry restoring to the backup and see if  it puts them and their content back on your iPad

  • My LaCie harddrive dos'nt wrk with Final Cut Pro 5

Hi There. I've got some problem using my Lacie disc with Final Cut 5 on my iMac G5 17". If I disconnect the Lacie Disc - Final Cut works fine. With the disc attatched final cut can´t find the camera and dosn't start properly. They're both connected thrue Fire Wire and when they're connected at the same time they take out eachother. I had a simalar prolem whit an othter computer a couple of month ago and it was solved by downloading a plug in from Lacie or somewhere. I don't remember.

    David,
I'm not disagreeing with the speed thing, all I'm saying is that when I use USB2 to edit from I've never, ever had a problem at, least with DVPal. I think what we have here is a theory that USB2 is no good for editing rather than the reality. I'd be interested to hear from people who are having problems editng via USB2 in practice.
It's a bit like the HDV thing - I notice the main detractors of this format are people who don't actually use it because they can afford not to, probably the same people who dismissed Mini DV when it first came out. In fact, a friend of mine who calls himself a professional cameraman was dismayed when the VX1000 started to replace the Beta SP in news gathering because the only reason he became a cameraman was because he thought he looked cool with the SP strapped on his hip - size was everything!
    Right, off my soapbox.

  • Iphoto crash, everything gone.

I was just looking at pictures when iphoto started acting weird and then crashed and asked to be relaunched. I said ok, and it opened up as a brand new library. Everything is gone. I read online for hours and saw the "old masters" file that many users said to check. Mine is there, with every single event in a different folder, organized by date, just like I had it. But every one of these folders is empty. No picture in it, just the names are there. All I have left is a mysterious "recovered iphoto library" with 30,000 pictures in a giant mess, including faces, thumbnails, copies, duplicates etc... I didn't see anybody mentioning that. I have hope because the folders are there so the pictures should be able to get back in there...
I didn't do anything special to cause this crash. How can I get my stuff back? Did try to start a new library and use a bunch of apps, but made sure not to empty the trash to not over write stuff.
    Thanks

That is even worse in your case then other badly corrupted libraries. You may want to send feedback to Apple using the feedback form:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
If you cannot restore the library from your backup, copy the recovered items out of the library and import them into a new library. In that case a duplicate finder like "Photo Sweeper" might help, because it can recognize duplicate images of different sizes, and can help to weed out the thumbnails.

  • Iphoto library......everything gone!!!!!help!!!!!

hello, all, this is my first post, for some reason,my iphoto library has made all my photos up to the last import disappear, gone, there is no evidence that they ever existed. My iphoto library icon/folder is showing a file size over 20odd gig but i can only see a couple of 100mb worth in the actual iphoto application.please tell me how i can restore my iphoto library to include all the photos somewhere in there,i tried moving the iphoto libaray folder/icon and then reselected it when prompted but to no avail.?????please tell me this is a stupid error of mine and i will once again see all our pics.thankyou.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Where has my harddrive space gone?

I will soon be getting a new MacBook with a solid state harddrive.  It will likely be smaller than the 500GB drive I use now, so I am calculating what size I need.  I can do without some of my own files (under "Users"), but I imagine I need everything else.  However, the math just isn't adding up.  My folders on the HD are as follows:
    apps 12.8 GB
    library 12.47 GB
    system 4.45 GB
    total non-user files = 29.72 GB
My "users" folder is 236.39 GB
grand total = 266.11 GB used.
However, under "info" after ctrl-clicking the HD, it says I am using 406.75 GB!  (unused = 58.69, capacity = 465.44.)
What am I missing?  Is this missing data hidden but essential and needing to be factored in to my new HD?

Check your hard drive space again using one of the following...
OmniDiskSweeper is a free utility that checks HD space.
FreeSpace cost $1 or is a free utility that checks HD space.
SpaceControl is a free utility that checks HD space.
FreeSpace cost $.99 -  FreeSpace shows you how much space is available on all local, connected, and network drives with a single click.
Where  did  my  Disk  Space  go?

  • Help help everything gone!

so when i open my finder i decided to rename the House looking thing, sorry I'm new to mac, and now all my photos that were in iphoto are gone. I don't know what i did wrong and its as if I've reset everything. Whats going on?

Open the Users folder on your hard disk and rename the folder which currently has the house icon to something else, and then rename the folder with your data to the original name of the folder with the house icon. Log out and log back in to restore your data. If you want to keep the new name of your home folder, see the second or third paragraph of this post depending on what you want to do.
To change the name of your account properly, use this utility.
To change only the name of your home folder properly, rename it in the Finder and use the NetInfo Manager in your /Applications/Utilities/ folder to change your user account's home property to contain the new name. Don't alter or delete anything else in the NetInfo Manager, and log out and back in after changing this property. This can also be done on its own to restore your data after renaming the home folder without renaming any more folders.

  • Library disappeared, everything gone

Just opened itunes and my entire library is gone! I hadnv'e installed any new software, no changes or updates (windows 7, 64 bit)...
hours and hours of music and audio books... all my purchased audiobooks and music, hours of favorite podcasts... gone, the library is empty
isn't there an itunes library stored on my hard drive?
can I restore it from there?
I also have a copy of my hard drive on a separate hard drive (Acronis, mirror image of hard drive)
can I restore it from there?
I've been losing "files" for a couple years now, the loss accelerating... ("9,0000 missing files") and unable to find them as the process used to work
easier to delete the audiobook and re-copy it, but it all takes so much time, the concept of building a library fails when I have to rebuild it perpetually
    what is going on?
since the last "remodel" of itunes, I've had nothing but problems... and it isn't my computer, everything else is working fine
I don't have the tech skills to be contantly dealing with the problems (or the time)
and from the posts I read, I'm not the only one.... is there some comflict with windows?
though two friends who have macs are having the same problems
are they going to fix these issues?

See this post. *******Will do******** my conversation inserted in *****************
Hopefully you have a copy of the last working library database in your mirror image that you can restore, otherwise there may be a .tmp or .itl file that you can restore.
It is worth noting the mirroring tool could potentially be the cause of the problem, particularly if you don't also use AVG or have been suffering these symptoms for some time.********** I use AVG, have never a problem before, no problems with anything exdcept WMP (that also is a common problem currently) and did not do a backup/copy right before this happened (weeks ago). Acronis has never caused any kind of problem with any other files or folders... I see a comment about an AVG patch to solve the problem? AVG caused the problem?

You're welcome. AVG issued a patch yesterday which should stop it happening again.

not that there is not a first time for anything, but the decay of itunes functions seems to predominate pattern.*******
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
****** firtst hitch, when I click on the dates of previous libraries, the current library opens... sorry to admit, I don't have the background to read this as a step-by-step, I found the "previoius library, what to do I do with it and why does it open the current empty when I click on it to see what is in it, or is it supposed to?**************************************************
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied and renamed asiTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • Everything gone after incorrect sync, how to recover?

Hi. For some reason that I really can't understand, my iPod synced with the hard drive's iTunes library (even though I've always had it set to manual, as I don't keep a copy of the music on the hard drive).
Everything is gone now. I've spent sleepless hours online and the only decent recovery software seems to be CopyTrans Doctor. It did 'see' the 1800+ deleted songs, but you can't recover them until you pay and it's A$65, way too expensive. Are there any free alternatives, or something cheaper?

It is unlikely that your files are really gone if you did an UPGRADE.  On the other hand, if you installed a new OS from scratch, then you erased all your files and will end up with a mac with no files, just like it would come from the store.  If you didn't install a complete fresh OS then have you possibly logged in as a different user?  Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Users and see if there are more than one user.  If so, try logging in as a different user and see if your files are there.
The other things is to use spotlight to search for a file whose name you know.  Type command-space to bring up the search screen and type in the name of a file you know and see if it shows up.

  • Contacts, texts, games, everything gone!

So I just got this phone like last week, and i'd just finished setting it up and it was great. i just needed to connect it with the computer to get app world, because i don't have that for some reason? I downloaded the blackberry data manager thing and updated my phone too. i clicked the things i wanted and the things i didnt want, so i wanted the app world and brickbreaker and stuff like that. after the update, everything was gone! i didn't back it up, i'm still totally new to this so it's super confusing i just want to know how to work it. PLEASE HELP ME!! D:

    Hey zookiezoey,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
You can reinstall any downloaded applications from going to BlackBerry World and click on My World and select re-install for all the downloaded applications.
Brickbreaker can be installed through BlackBerry Desktop Software, follow the stpes in this KB article: http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2011/02/add-and-remove-blackberry-apps/
Also if you're missing contacts, SMS messages and other data.  Go into BlackBerry Desktop Software and click on Restore and choose the backup file which BlackBerry Desktop Software should've created.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • Everything gone from my Asha 300!

So I just tried to go to Internet with my Asha 300 and it didn't work so I decided to turn it off and turn it back on again. And now absolutely EVERYTHING that's been saved on the phone is gone, messages and my calendar! My brother has this same phone and the same thing happened to him few months ago.
Has anyone similar problems? Is there any way to get my calendar notes and messages back?

Plug it into your computer and restore it with iTunes. If it doesn't work, google "iPhone DFU mode" and restore it in DFU mode.

  • Everything GONE! help!!!

I would LOVE to know what that extra 5 GB of "other" stuff is. because I don't know what it is!!
Please someone for the love of god help me.!

Presumably your music is still in your iTunes Library (and you keep backups of that too)?
Looks like you need to click the "Restore" button in the middle of the screenshot you posted.

so after all that my question is how do i get iphoto and lifesuite and those all back without having to repurchase it??
Did Apple not offer to transfer the information from your old hard disk to the new one? That service costs a little more but if you had no backup it would have been worth it.
It is very important to keep your original system install DVDs in a safe place for this reason. If you are unable to locate it all you can do is call Apple Support - you will have to pay for it - and ask if it is possible for them to send you a replacement disk. You will need to prove ownership of your computer, I suppose that should be easy since it was just serviced, and you will be charged a nominal fee for the disk.
