Lacie Lightscribe Burner says I need 1.2GB capacity to burn??

I have a basic Mac Mini (no superdrive) so purchased a Lacie DVD burner with Lightscribe... I tried to burn using iDVD. I have read on this forum that they don't not allow burning from 3rd party devices, so that I understand, but I try to burn using Toast 6, (even tried an earlier Toast application) Once I put a couple of videos and couple of tracks (which is the only media files I have on there at the moment) and try to perform a "data" disc, and hit the red record button and so on, the desired speed is set at "best" although I have tried the "16x" speed and even the "1x" speed, and after I choose record, it says it cannot copy, That - 1.2GB of capacity is required (xxxxx no. of sectors) etc. Which is a bit weird seeing how I have approx 27GB free on the Mac Mini..
There's nothing really to free up or delete on the Mac as most of the installs are simply updates. Mayube it's a media problem with the DVD's themselves? Hopefully someone else can provide any info on this

Forgot to mention, I am looking to buy an external hard drive (around 320gb) would this then allow me to burn from my external hard drive if I had toast etc. installed on that instead of the Mac's? Just an idea I was thinking of

  • IDVD burning to external LaCie Lightscribe burner

I bought a LaCie Lightscribe burner at The Apple Store in KC MO. When I went to open iDVD, it said I didn't have a superdrive on my computer (which is true) so couldn't burn the movie I was hoping to create. Is there a different setting I need to use to burn to the external? Did I just waste $200? Please help.

The best thing for you to do is update to iLife '05. You wil be able to create a disk image file that you can burn to your external burner.
As an alternative, you can try the 'Patch burn" at http://www.patchburn.de/faq.html which should let you use your burner.
As a disclaimer: I have not used this patch and it is NOT an Apple supported approach.

I have purchased Lion, but cannot install it as it says I need 2GB space when I have 170GB free.
    How do I do this?

    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

  • It says i need 12.2GB to backup...but everything is unchecked.

I have unchecked everything including camera roll and even deleted backup, but it still says I need an additional 7.2 GB for backup?  What am I missing?

Winston,  thank you for your replies.  Going back to my original problem statement, I backed up the contents on icloud just prior to doing the update to iOS 8.1.  It had said the iPad had 3.5 gigs and there was 1.5 gigs free on the 1st five gigs they give you free.  Since then, after the 8.1 upload, it said I needed 2.2 gigs more to backup the iPad, but I did not add anything of significant size.  So initially I deleted a few photos and a video or two, the cues I saw in settings were the same as i saw previously.  When it first tried to do an auto backup, it then said I needed 2.2 gigs more space.  The other cues from the iPad required 3.5 gigs and that there were still 1.5 gigs free.
SInce your last reply, not this one, I have deleted several more videos, the larger ones, and several Apps that I don't use.  I then tried to backup and NOW it says I need 2.4 gigs and that I only have 1.3 gigs free!!!!  What is going on?  I reduced the files, and actually the ipad says it needs a total of 3.4 gigs for the backup, but icloud says I need 2.4 more,  I believe the new 8. series has a flaw in the backup and icloud programming.  Looking at other posts I see similar, but not exactly the same problems with memory and backing up.  I did upload 8.1.1, but that did not help.
ANy other guidance would be appreciated.

  • I am trying to purchase os x lion from app store. Getting a response saying I need 2GB memory available but I have at least 40GB free space??

I am trying to purchase os x lion from app store. Getting a response saying I need 2GB memory available but I have at least 40GB free space??

Memory = Ram, the 40G free space you are referring to is hard drive storage space available, 2 very different things.
In order to run Lion you MUST have at least a Core 2 Duo processor and 2G of Ram, to find out whether you qualify (and it seems as though you don't) go to
Apple>About this Mac: you will be able to see the processor type and Ram installed thus
If you have less than 2G of Ram you can install more, if however you have a Core Duo (instead of Core 2 Duo) you can not run Lion.

  • Need Lacie LightScribe labeler software for Mac

I just purchased a Lacie LightScribe DVDRW with USB 2.0, and the lame people at Lacie decided to not give me a copy of their Lacie lightscribe software (after I kindly asked them) even though it would (according to them) work perfectly well with my USB 2.0 drive. For some unexplained reason, they would only bundle the software with the Firewire version of the drive.
So anyway, I'm wondering if anyone can point me to some place, or can "give me" a copy of the software.
I hate to purchase another Lacie drive just to get this software... which is kind of what the Lacie support rep hinted me to do ......

    Yi,
Of course the drive works with the Mac.
However, continue down the page, and you will see:
    "Mac software not included"
It is less expensive, as it does not include the licensed Mac software. Some people already have the software.
So, you may ask, how can I use the drive with my Mac then?
    - the drive will work for burning data CDs and DVDs on the Mac after installing the Disc Burning Profile for 10.3.x and 10.4.x; drive will work with itunes, iPhoto, and Finder to burn discs. This profile is a free download at our website. It will NOT provide LightScribe labeling capability.
I am sorry that this was not clear to you; I still recommend that you exchange the drive for a model compatible with your computer, or return for a refund.

  • HT1473 My iTunes just started not burning my playlists to a CD saying it needs to be reinstalled.  What is wrong?

My iTunes just started not burning my playlists to a CD saying iTunes needs to be reinstalled.  I do not  know how to reinstall with out that pop-up request.  I checked the latest version under help and I have the latest version.  I do not know how it could have created an error that will not allow me to burn my playlists to CDs.

    many thanks.
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Why does Realplayer pop up and says I need to download it to burn my movie?

    Frank M Siino
What do you do when you get this pop up? Click cancel and then proceed to burn to disc successfully with Premiere Elements and its burn software and your burner?
Lots of questions and details needed to help.
    1. What version of Premiere Elements do you have and on what computer operating system is it running?
    2. What are the properties of your source media and what have you or the program set as the project preset?
    3. What are you doing with the burn to feature...burn to DVD, burn to AVCHD on DVD, or burn to Blu-ray?
    4. What do you click on to get the Realplayer pop up...Publish+Share or Disc or DVD or AVCHD or Blu-ray?
    5. When all this is happening what does the burn dialog show for burner location? Does it show the burner into which you placed your disc?
Those are some of the types of questions that need answers in order to put together some troubleshooting strategy to help you.
Be sure to look into how you have your computer set up for Default Programs and AutoPlays as a background for all the rest.
Looking forward to the details from you to help you with your question.
    Thanks.

  • We have a Macbook with only 1.667GB RAM, can we upgrade to Lion, as I see it says we need 2GB?

We have several Apple products iPad2 and iPhone 4S.  We currently use Mobileme and would like to use iCloud.  To run iCloud on our Macbook, it says we need Lion, which requires 2GB of RAM.
Can we add more memory or will we have to buy a new Mac or Macbook.
It would be such a shame as Macbook still performs really well!

You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/

  • Install LaCie LightScribe drive?  Yosemite compatible drivers?

    Mac Pro mid-2012 (model MacPro5,1)
    Yosemite 10.10.2
I have an older working LaCie internal LightScribe drive I'd like to install into the available optical drive bay on this Mac Pro.
    Specifically looking for information...
    1.  The LaCie drive has an IDE interface.  Which IDE to SATA adapter will work with this?  I see quite a few adapters on Amazon that are pretty cheap, but no mention of Apple/Mac compatibility.  Anyone have a recommendation for a specific converter verified to work?  What about the power connection?  I don't see a 4-pin power connection or cable in this Mac, just the standard SATA connectors.
    2.  I know HP discontinued LightScribe a couple years ago and took down their LightScribe website in 2014.  LaCie is still providing downloads for their software and drivers.  I'm not too worried about labeling software as there are a few choices out there for Mac that burn LightScribe.  I'm more concerned about the LightScribe drivers, last updated in 2009, still being compatible with this computer and/or Yosemite.  Anyone have any experience with this?
    3.  Alternatively, does anyone know of a decent internal LightScribe SATA drive that will work with my hardware/OS configuration?  I realize this might also be a problem since the technology was discontinued in 2013.
    Thank-you!

    SOFTWARE
I hooked up my LaCie LightScribe IDE drive to a universal USB adapter and installed the HP LightScribe drivers from this web-page. Through online research, I confirmed that this is the latest version available, and it's the same driver package previously distributed by LaCie and currently distributed by BeLight.
Using BeLight's Disc Cover (version 3.0.11) labeling software, I was successfully able to burn a LightScribe label.
So yes, the widely available HP LightScribe driver (version 1.18.27.10) works under Yosemite 10.10.2
    HARDWARE
Now the issue of hooking up the IDE drive to the secondary optical bay using the Mac's internal 22-pin female SATA drive cable.  The 2012 Mac Pro does not have any internal Molex connectors.
I found this IDE to SATA adapter card which would take care of the data bus utilizing a 7-pin SATA connection.
Then I'd need a female Molex power connection to hook into the drive.  The IDE adapter card also needs a mini 4-pin power connector, so this 15-pin SATA to Molex & 4-pin adapter seems to fit the bill to power both the drive and the adapter card from a 15-pin SATA power connection.   However, since the Mac's internal SATA connector is an all-in-one 22-pin female connector, I'd need a 22-pin male SATA connector that splits off the 7-pin and 15-pin connections separately.  Here's one that seems to have it all, 22-pin male SATA plus 15-pin and 7-pin female SATA along with female/male Molex and 4-pin power.
Now, assuming all these cables, adapters and convertors work, I'm looking at roughly $20 - 25 for all.
Unfortunately, nobody seems to provide a simple adapter or kit that will plug-in directly between the Mac's 22-pin female SATA connection and the IDE & Molex connections on the drive.
Considering the number of adapters chained together, their combined cost, and the age of my LaCie drive, I decided to just buy a brand new Sony LightScribe SATA drive on eBay for about $30.  Once I hook it up and test, I'll come back and post my results.

  • I've installed icloud on my ipad but when I tried to install it on my MacBook re mobileme, must have blocked it and now get a message saying I need to enter another name

How can I uninstal my mobileme account and install my icloud address? Mobile me doesn't recognise my Apple ID....won't allow me to open icloud on my MacBook. keep getting a message saying I need to enter another name or pin......nothing works........I've probably blocked it as server keeps saying try later.......

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.2 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

Oh, you do have the C2D! That's great!
I'm no technical expert, I just like to help out whenever or wherever I can so... I don't know if this can help you, but let me tell you about how I got my Snow Leopard to run in 64 bit mode. When I got my (late 2008) iMac it was running in 32 bit mode under Tiger (2.4 GHz/Core 2 Duo). I eventually upgraded to Snow Leopard & it was running in 32 bit mode (by default) w/1 GB RAM.
Somewhere along the line, I happened to watch a YouTube Video that showed how to upgrade an iMac's RAM, so I ordered two - 2GB sticks of Crucial RAM and then - under the guidance of the 14 or 15 year-old young man who posted the video on YouTube; wearing a rather fashionable static-electricity-neutralizer-wrist-strap, I removed 1GB of RAM & plugged in the 4GBs of RAM. So - boom like that, it was like I bought a brand new machine.
It was over a year later when I stumbled across a way to boot Snow Leopard into 64 bit mode. Turns out that if you boot while holding down the 6 & 4 key combo (the ones above the QWERTY keys), then the machine runs in 64 bit mode. Go figure. Now my Snow Leopard and just about all of my applications - with the ironic exception of iTunes - runs in 64 bit. iTunes seems fine though; if there's a performance bottleneck, I really can't tell.
    Well, that's about it..
I hope that something I've mentioned can help you achieve your overall goal.
Finally, it's hard to jump onto a train, a large cat, or a surfboard that's already moving. But don't be surprised when someone a fraction of your age shows you how to.
    Best Regards,
    mm~

  • HT1338 I just updated my system to 10.6.8.  New computer just out of the box, but I wanted to download Numbers from the App store and it says I need 10.7.4.  How do I get this update?

I have a new IMac, purchased from my Dad that he never used.  I just did the latest update to 10.6.8.  I wanted to get "Numbers" on the computer from the App Store but it says I need 10.7.4.   How do I get this?  Everytime I try update it goes to 10.6.8.  I am new to Apple and struggling a bit.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, you must install the DVD version of iWork. If you previously got a compatible version of Numbers from the Mac App Store, go to its home page and click on Support under Quick Links.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, try purchasing Mac OS X 10.8 from the Mac App Store. If you get told that it's incompatible, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for 10.7.
If upgrading to 10.7 or 10.8 requires any other upgrades or replacements(they both require at least 2GB RAM and don't support PowerPC-only software such as Office 2004), it may be cheaper to buy and install the DVD version of iWork even if your computer can be upgraded to use the Mac App Store version.

  • IPhoto 4.03 & iTunes 6.04, purchased music says, it needs to be authorized.

iPhoto 4.03 & iTunes 6.04, my purchased music keeps saying it needs to be authorized, for my computer. I select a piece of music for an iPhoto slide show and repeatedly go through the authorization process and then no music; no matter how many times, I try. Any Suggestions?

Good point... In trying to save a step or two, I didn't think it completely through. But cannot iTunes' DRM be removed by simply burning a playlist to CD? Your track(s) should then be available from that CD (or for import from it) for your slideshow.

  • Everytime my 30g gets close to being full..it says i need to restore..

i have to set my ipod on manual because i dont have enough room on my computer for all of my music..so i have to put the music on my ipod and delete them from the computer. well. everytime my 30 gig is almost full (1gig of freespace or less)it eventually says i need to restore it, and it deletes everything off of my ipod. and i cant really afford a memory stick thingy..thats over 6000 songs deleted within 5 minutes after months of putting it back on. its done it about 6 times now. what do i do?

Please post your question in the right forum and you will probably get an answer.
You have posted this in the iPod classic forum which you don't have. iPod classics are 80G or 160GB only, not 30GB. You probably have a 5th Generation iPod.
First you should not use your iPod as the only source of your music, it is not a backup device.
Perhaps you need to burn some DVD's of your music then you can restore it if you lose it again.
