LACIE won't setup

I recently bought a LACIE d2 USB3 Thunderbolt. When the LACIE icon appears and I try to set it up, I see this message: "
LaCie Setup Assistant is only compatible with USB and FireWire ports." But, I do have USB and FireWire ports.
What should I do?

I have a LaCie "Rugged" external hard drive.  There was an instruction booklet that came with it that tells you how to use the "Set-Up Assistant". Have you checked your booklet for the information?  It should give you detailed instructions on how to proceed.

  • LaCie Won't Mount With Mavericks. Any New Leads For Remedy?

I know this question has been asked many times. I've tried the Lacie website, can not get an answer, and a lot of the answers to this question are dated. LaCie won't mount. What Can I Do? Any suggests for an external that is compatible with Maverick, and works???!!!!

The problem is that it won't mount after it has been unmounted. A friend of mine who's a Mac Repairman told me that it could be a number of things...
he told me to check if any smells were coming from the drive...
    nope. check.
If the fan had stopped working... nope. check.
If it's a problem being caused by the enclosure.... that i'm going to check on.
I called TekServe in Manhattan and when i get paid, i'm going to see if that's the case.
But they want 1200.00 for data retrieval in a worse case scenario... and i'm going to shop around for that one. I have a feeling that they corner the market in that area for Mac repair and they probably feel they can charge whatever they want and people will pay.
1200.00 is another computer. I'd rather do my research before shelling out that kind of dough.
I had unwittingly unmounted my first external 3 years ago .... it's a Wacom, and it mounted with no problem after literally a minute.
So i don't know why this LaCie is giving me problems.
So i'll try changing enclosures and check out reports for the companies with the best all-around reports on their externals before i buy.
It may not last forever, but i should get better than an external HD's "refusal" to mount once unmounted.
    It just doesn't make sense.
Besides, i have a feeling that my computer won't register it's existence if it doesn't mount to make itself known.
    Tell me if i'm off.
BUt i will consider the other programs that you guys have suggested.

  • ICloud won't setup properly on my iPhone 6, iPad Mini or iMac

    Hi everyone,
I've had an iMac and iPad for a while now and wasn't keen on setting up iCloud but this changed with my first iPhone which I got a few days ago.
I opted to activate iCloud during the setup process thinking it'd be just as easy to do as everything else was.
FYI: right now all my devices have their latest iOS/OSX versions...
    iPhone 6 - iOS 8.1.2 (12B440):
    - Everything seemed fine until I looked at Settings > iCloud
    - I'm continually asked to log in. Even after logging in successfully, the login prompt will show up again later (and repeatedly)
    - iCloud Drive is "upgrading" and won't stop. It has been like this for at least 2 days now and Apple's servers have been fine when I've checked
    - I'm unable to log out/remove/delete/change the iCloud account that's on my phone. The "Sign Out" button is greyed out and cannot be selected
    - I've tried turning flight mode on/off (didn't work)
    - Restarting the phone (nope)
    - Multiple soft resets (nudda)
    - A hard reset is a last resort if possible
    iPad Mini - iOS 8.1.2 (12B440):
    - I'm continually asked to log in like with my phone
    - iCloud Drive isn't shown like it is on my phone
    iMac (late 2009) - OSX Yosemite 10.10.1:
    - Error: "You can't sign in at this time. Try signing in again"
    iCloud.com:
    - Error: "Set up iCloud on a device to use iCloud.com. Your Apple ID must be used to set up iCloud on an iOS or OS X device before you can use iCloud.com"
My Apple ID works in iTunes, the App Store, and probably everything else except iCloud.
Also, it's not possible for me to visit an official Apple store or service centre as they're literally hundreds of miles away from where I live.
Anyway, I have no idea what to do and would really appreciate any help. Thanks

Thanks for replying. I think it's just one problem affecting everything else. To me, it seems like the setup and/or upgrade process for iCloud is stuck and I'm unable to activate it anywhere else (iPad, iMac, iCloud.com, etc.)
I know the Apple ID I used. I only have one and used that when setting up my iPhone...
My Apple ID works in iTunes, the App Store, and probably everything else except iCloud.
The "Sign Out" button is greyed out and cannot be selected
So, signing out isn't possible from what I can tell.
    So, I dunno

  • External HD Lacie won't wake up

I have an external 250 Gb La Cie harddisk connected to my iMac G4 (with Firewire). When the computer has gone to sleep, it is no problem to wake it up. But when, at the same time, the HD has gone to sleep as well, there's no chance to wake it up. When I try to doubleclick on it, I am confronted with the spinning beach ball. I have to manually switch the external HD off. In the meantime, I can't do anything on the Mac.
Anyone a hint how I can fix/prevent this problem?
iMac G4 + Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Tiger on the Mini, Panther on the iMac

Although there have been several cases of LaCie (and a few other brand)
FireWire external drive issues when connected to machines running Tiger
OSX 10.4.x, fewer have been the stories of outright success in curing them.
My resulting google/mac search of the words [ LaCie FW issues with Tiger
OS X ] gave a cross-section of most places online I'd read of this problem.
And since the time of day is very early in this Zone, I won't go and sift
through those findings for a few gems or nuggets of truth, at this time.
With my LaCie 250GB FW external (self powered, no USB 2.0) I was
sure to apply the last firmware update available even though I had not
any issues with it while using the unit under OSX 10.3.9; I have not
used it to make a backup of my iBookG4 1.33 running 10.4.6 so far.
Not sure if there is a drivers/firmware issue or some other upset.
I always am sure to not let my computer go to sleep with the FW
external attached; and am sure to dismount the drive after using it.
The things I do as a matter of course are done to prevent issues.
But I suspect my routines may not be adequate to counter any
ill effects should this noted problem be related to something needing
a fix from LaCie; or maybe in the OSX Tiger itself. I want to be sure
my LaCie is available for the desktop Mac running 10.3.9, so I'm
holding firm on not running it from the 10.4.6 iBook yet...!
You may be able to institute something on startup to help sort out
the mess with the attached FW and iMacG4 problems; could be
the external needs to be dragged to the trash or use the dismount
option to get it disconnected via software before shutting it down or
letting it sleep. If you are not booting from it, no point in having it on
if you let the computer sleep. I don't... Of course, I started out with
SCSI rules and other things, so I keep having to think again on FW
    and USB stuff on occasion.

  • Lacie won't unmount

    Greetings Gurus,
I took part of my system home to do some work over the holidays and am now having trouble unmounting my Lacie BigDiskExtremeTriple. This drive has always been connected to my Dual G5 desktop (profile listed below), but I'd hoped to get some work done on the MBPro 17.
Here's what info I have so far:
I believe the problem started from having several external FW drives looped through a Belkin FW hub (sorry, no specs on it right now other than 3 FW 6pin ports on each side of the hub) - computer froze and I had to reboot.
I believe this caused some possible directory damage to the Lacie since I had been unable to 'unmount' the drive properly.
Support and Google searches have offered several things to try, but none have resolved the issue yet. Most suggest a 'directory issue with the drive' that Disk Warrior may fix. I have DW3.0, but also read that it's not going to work if the drive won't unmount in Disk Utility (which it wont')
Here is what I've tried so far.
any usage of Finder/Spotlight locks up the system.
Drive seems to work, though I've delayed pushing it with apps (mostly FCStudio), until I can resolve the issue.
Force Quit Finder - have been able to then unmount the drive once or twice, but usually not.
Restart Mac - can usually then unmount the drive, but not always
Check Activity monitor - this shows a Process ID/Name 'mds' at Root level running 99% (any ideas there?)
Run Terminal commmand 'sudo lsof | grep "The-Volume-Name"
    - This gives me 4 items (one at Finder and 3 at mds) - Here is what it listed...
    Finder 98 kevandholdsworth 19r VDIR 14,11 68 10944 /Volumes/MEDIA/.Trashes/501
    mds 186 root 22u VREG 14,11 1069056 4392 /Volumes/MEDIA/.Spotlight-V100/store.db
    mds 186 root 23u VREG 14,11 1069056 4393 /Volumes/MEDIA/.Spotlight-V100/.store.db
    mds 186 root 24u VREG 14,11 0 4395 /Volumes/MEDIA/.Spotlight-V100/.journalHistoryLog
Is it possible to just locate these files and delete them? or will DW need to do it's own thing?
I'm ready to try Disk Warrior, but would appreciate any feedback regarding the issue before I attempt it.
(sadly, I broke the cardinal rule of not double posting [initially in the 'Finder, Dock & Dashboard Forum], but feel much more confident of getting strong advice here...my apolgies to any I've upset by doing so)
    Thanks,
    Kevan
PS - just checked my profile and it does not yet list the MBP...It's a 17" w/2GB Ram, same OS and Software as on the G5

It's not backed up yet...I'll do that before running DiskWarrior
I'm not convinced what the issue is. I now am unable to unmount any external HDs (all FW) from my G5.
Jim, Disk Utility is not giving me the option to 'disable journaling'.
Spotlight prefs won't let me add(+) either volume to 'privacy'...that's my understanding on how to remove it from being indexed. However, when I tried 'dragging' one of the volumes into the 'privacy' area, it went 'Poof'...now showing up on desktop, but no longer in finder...is this what you are referring to?
Kenneth, I'm the only user/admin...not seeing an issue there. Maybe I'm missing something from your suggestion. I simply boot up as I always do.
    UPDATE...
FYI, here is the original prompt I get when trying to unmount any external hard drives: "The disk "DISK NAME" is in use and could not be ejected. Try quitting applications and try again"
There are no visible applications open...I notice now after dragging a volume to spotlight privacy that one of the text lines from the Terminal sudo command no longer shows up.
I have been able to unmount all drives after starting up from a backup drive (Panther). However, restarting from Tiger does not allow this. I'm also a bit concerned about doing restarts without properly unmounting any of these drives.
Here are a couple of links I've been trying to apply, but it's looking like a backup and DiskWarrior are next steps. A show deadline is preventing me from doing so at this time.

  • Lacie won't spin

    greetings,
have a lacie 250 gb triple interface. it won't spin up. no audible anything.
    disk utility doesn't see it.
system profiler sees it as an unknown device.
while powered up, the blue light is constant.
is it possible to take drive apart and put inside my g5? or should i look at getting another enclosure? or is my drive hosed?
    thanks,
    tinman

There is a known issue with the LaCie enclosures failing. You will find lots of comments (negative) about this on the web, or on the feedback section of Apple's online store.
Replacing the drive enclosure has fixed the problem for some -- the drive itself turned out to be OK.
We have several LaCie external drives (250 and 500 GB). We (so far) had one fail, and LaCie replaced it for us even though it was theoretically several months out of warranty. They WILL NOT preserve your hard drive data. As the previous post suggested, I'd contact LaCie first. If they don't take care of it try a third party drive enclosure.

  • Setting up Lacie external storage setup assistant not available.  "Power pc not supported"

Trying to set up a Lacie Quadra d2 external drive.  The Lacie setup assistant will not operate.  The macbook error reads "PowerPC no longer supported".  How can I set up this storage device?

PPC applications are not supported by OSX's from 10.7 and up.  I suspect that you will have to reformat the HDD but the best option is to contact Lacie technical support and get a definitive answer from them.
    Ciao.

  • My dumb external LaCie won't mount.....AAARRRGGHH!!!

I'm really hoping someone can help me here. I was working on some illustrations and in Manga studio debut, i opened a window to post some work i created into my external harddrive. I mistakenly hit the "eject" symbol that unmounted my hard-drive from my computer. So i said to myself,"No biggie... i'll just shut the drive off, unplug it, wait awhile, replug it, shut it on and it'll mount again.
    nope.
I shut it off, unplug it, restart the computer. plug it and turn the external harddrive power on... nothing. i wait patiently thinking it'll eventually kick in.
    no kicking.
i'm a 40 year old man i'm contemplating crying now... because more than 200 gigs of important work is on my drive and i can't access it.
That and stupid Leopard can't even do the most basic commands.. like accessing my printer. Just get that dumb beachball. Even opening System preferences gives me problems. More beachball.
I'm looking for help here. Please help.
How can i shed my computer of the recent upgrade and go back to 10.5.2?
and Since nothing can be wrong with my LaCie by just unmounting it, what can i do to get it to mount? Just leave it plugged on and powered and pray that the OS recognizes it and hope it mounts?
I don't have that kind of time.
If i need to retrieve all that data onto another new external, how much will that cost me?
I know i'm asking a lot of questions, but i'm desperate here.

The problem is that it won't mount after it has been unmounted. A friend of mine who's a Mac Repairman told me that it could be a number of things...

  • Time Capsule won't setup?

I just bought a 2TB Time Capsule, primarily so I can wirelessly transfer my data from my old Macbook to my new Macbook Pro. I keep trying to set up the Time Capsule using Airport Utility, but for some reason the Time Capsule just won't connect to my Macbook.
    This is what keeps happening:
    1) I start using Airport Utility and it can't detect my Time Capsule (which is literally right beside my Macbook). Only after about 5 or 6 "re-scans" does my laptop finally detect the Time Capsule.
    2) After detecting the Time Capsule I click "Continue" to set it up.
    3) Because I've had to reset it, a menu then comes up saying, "This Time Capsule has been reset," with options to either "restore the previous settings" or "use default settings and save previous settings as a profile." I then click the "restore" option.
    4) A bunch of pages come up about what I want to name my Time Capsule and passwords and stuff, which all looks fine.
    5) Then a page comes up saying, "This Time Capsule is set up to join a wireless network," which is what I want, so I continue.
    6) The final page says, "Time Capsule will use these settings below. Make sure they are correct." It has the network my Time Capsule will be joining and all of the correct information so I click "Update."
    7) Then a page comes up saying, "This device and its network services will be temporarily unavailable. Are you sure you want to continue?" So I continue.
    8) The next page says, "The settings for this Time Capsule have been successfully updated. You can close this window or wait for Time Capsule to restart." At the bottom of the screen it says, "Waiting for Time Capsule to restart..." For about 20 seconds the light turns solid amber, and after that it switches back to the flashing amber state.
    9) After several minutes of waiting for the Time Capsule to restart, this message comes up: "Airport Utility was unable to find your AirPort wireless device after restarting. The settings for this AirPort device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the AirPort wireless device. You may need to select your network from the Wi-Fi menu and try again."
    10) After this I need to re-join my network and my Time Capsule is still not set up.
    Just as additional information:
    - The Time Capsule's light is always flashing amber - before, during and after "setup"
    - The network connection in my house is great and I've never had issues wirelessly connecting to devices before.
Do you have any idea what the problem might be?
    Thanks for any help.

Patch lead is a short and flexible ethernet cable.. you use to patch computers to routers etc
Don't even look like you don't understand.. walk into the computer shop..
Say.. "I want a 2M (6' in US) cat 6 patch cable please.. hmmm what colour do you have available??"
    Change length according to taste.
Apple have restrictions on iTunes which are basically licensed to a single user.. they designed the system to prevent people simply copying it to somebody else.
Read the instructions on iTunes or post in the itunes area what you want to achieve.. it is specific to itunes..
You can copy your documents files.. That should be trivial exercise..
You already have a network.. you simply have never used it for anything except internet. Sorry I cannot give you a tutorial on Mac networking.. Google is your friend.. there are plenty of great tuts around the place.
Or go to a class and learn the specifics of networking.

  • 1st Gen Time Capsule won't setup

I bought a first Generation Time Capsule yesterday, I connected my ethernet cable from my verzion fios actiontec router and power the TC on. My 13 retina Macbook can see the TC, but whenever i try to connect to it in order to set it up i get this message:
Or i get a message telling me that i need to update to the lastest firmware. bt it never gives me an option to update. Basically im in a loop, any of you think you can help me?
    Thnaks in advance!

Ok.. thanks.. now we have a real error message.
What you need is to use an earlier utility. I didn't realise it (the old firmware) was so old.
I presume you do not have a pc or any other computer available.. windows 7 you can load 5.6 utility and upgrade with that.
For Mountain Lion, you cannot install 5.6 directly.. but there is a trick.
Here is my version but there are others if you google for it.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.

  • Changed my windows to windows 7 professional and illustrator 8.0 won't setup

What do I have to do to get my laptop to setup my illustrator 8.0 since I changed to windows 7 professional? It says it can't set it up.

    Jimmy,
You should be able to install and run AI8 in Windows 7 professional (and 8,1 for that matter).
You will probably need to run the computer in XP mode to install. Here is how:
Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7
To run AI8, you should be able to just run the computer normally and to specify that AI8 is to run in (XP) Compatibility maode, as follows:
    1) RightClick the shortcut;
    2) Click Properties;
    3) Click Compatibility;
    4) Tick Run this program in Compatibility mode for, then select XP in the dropdown list;
    5) Start AI9.
Otherwise, search for Compatibility in the Windows Help and follow the instructions there.

  • LaCie won't mount...

I have a LaCie 160GB external drive connected to my G5 dual 2.0GHz via FW800. It mounted and stayed mounted the first time I plugged it in (haven't done anything to it as far as plugging/unplugging anything goes), and was always on my desktop. That was a month ago.
Now, it is not mounted on my G5 at all. I pressed the power button on the front to turn it off then on again, but nothing. I restarted the G5, nothing. I searched with Spotlight for some of the files I knew were on there, nothing.
Is it a driver issue? Did I "eject" it without knowing?
I repaired permissions a couple days ago 1.) as a routine and 2.) because Reason 2.5 (MIDI sequencing program) was giving me trouble. The repaired permissions fixed the Reason 2.5 problem, and I remember being able to access the LaCie after the permission repair.
    Thanks.

Not sure which drive you have - but the d2 drivers haven't changed for a while
    http://www.lacie.com/support/drivers/
An iSight has been known to affect firewire drives mounting.
You could try a firewire reset
    from Mike Mihalik, LaCie
"Seems like the FireWire issue needs to be revisited quite often. Here is my often repeated suggestion which appears to clear up many FireWire issues: reset the FireWire ports. Panther has a Finder Preference to show mounted volumes on the Desktop. You must set this for mounted drives to be visible. Please follow these instructions to reset your FireWire port.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88338
    Here is a summary:
    * shut down and disconnect all external drives and peripherals ; make sure nothing is connected to the FireWire ports
    * use Apple Disk Utility to repair permissions on your internal boot drive
    * shut down and disconnect the AC power from the computer as well as the drives; if laptop, also remove battery
    * let sit unpowered and unconnected for 15 minutes
    * reconnect AC power to only the computer (battery too if laptop)
    * restart computer
    * verify that FireWire ports are visible within Apple System Profiler
    * reconnect FireWire drive (only one); refresh window within Apple System Profiler to rescan the FireWire bus; confirm that drive is visible
    * confirm drive is OK by using Apple Disk Utility and apply First Aid
    * repeat for other drives, one at a time"

  • Help! My Lacie won't mount!

Help! Help anybody out there can help.
I have recently bought a LaCie 1TB Rikibi External HD. It has been great so far and I have filled it with approx. 700GB. I have two partitions, one with 10GB (Windows) and one with appr. 990GB
Then a couple of weeks ago I unplugged the cable without "de-mounting" it.
After this my HD showed that it had 989GB available, even if there were 700GB of files there. All the files worked perfectly, and I had no problems at all.
Then yesterday I was bored and tried to find a solution, and then I came to Disc Utility. I pressed the repair button and it started repairing. Then I got the Error message. (My OS is in norwegian, but I will translate to the best of my abilities).
"Disc Utility cannot repair this disc. Back-up as many of the files as possible, format the disc again and restore the back-up'ed files"
Now the partition with 990GB is not available, it has been renamed "disk1s2" and is "deactivated". Therefor I cannot access my files and take a backup of them. I tried DiscWarrior and before I could rebuild I checked the preview, and there was only a couple of files, around 40GB left, the rest was gone.
I would like to take a back-up of the files, so the around 700GB that is there. Then I can format everything, but I dont want to loose all thoose files.
Since I cannot access my files on it, how would it be possible to backup and restore everything?
I dont have a extra 1 TB HD myself, but I can borrow one, but I dont want to erase this one in a hopeless attempt to retrieve my files! I contacted Lacie, but they just sent me to a company that wanted €400 to "retrieve" things.
Anyone have an idea of what I can do? Thank you in advance for answers.

    "disk1s2" and is "deactivated
Sound like an error in the structure. If DiskWarrior can repair the volume, and you only see 40GB you can try an App like DataRescue (Also a demo availible where you see which files, could be restored. With the demo you could only restore 1 file less the 10MB in size)  which COULD maybe restore your files.
Otherwise you can't do anything but bringing it to a professional data rescue company.
SO LONG don't work on the drive!!! Don't copy file to the drive, or use it for backup or dupicating file on the drive! Every operation will be deleting more and more from you old files!

if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here: Download Adobe CS4 and CS3 Free Trials Here (incl. After Effects) | ProDesignTools
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.
