Lack of Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) in Consumer Laptops in Malaysia

Model: HP Envy TouchSmart 15 j137tx
OS: Win 8.1 64bit
Hello HP,
I recently bought an HP Envy Laptop. Based on the price & specifications, I believe that it is one of the high-end products in its line. I intend to use it in long-term, which is why I invested in the high-end side of the product range.
Let me tell you about my nature of work. My job requires me to travel a lot. Meetings and audit are just a few of the regular tasks that I do and of course these kind tasks need a laptop. Therefore I bring my laptop wherever I travel. I am lucky to have all the work sites here in the Klang Valley; therefore I am able to travel using the public transportation. I use the train (LRT) a lot, which understandably puts my laptop under the risk of accidental damage.
When I bought my laptop just a month ago, I missed to consider the prospect of Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) as my insurance policy. However, I believe an established enterprise like Hewlett Packard, which has presence worldwide, would be able to offer its consumer this kind of protection. Boy how I was wrong.
I realized how important the ADP to me based on my job description and requirement and I quickly browsed my laptop web page to look for a suitable HP Care Pack. The word “ADP” did not appear so I called the Sales Hotline. My horror then came true; ADP is not offered in more than 10 HP Care Packs available for my laptop model.
I was shocked as well as enraged to discover this. I was told by the sales representative that the ADP is only available for the enterprise devices. I wonder why HP is not offering the same level of protection to its consumers. I wonder whether the enterprise client is more important than its consumers.
To my eyes, the HP products look good. It feels good. However, the customer service in my opinion is lacking. It is a sad statement but I cannot say that I am a proud owner of a HP machine.
Dissapointed,
Edy

This is what I call "Read the  Fine Prints" carefully before making purchases. Consumers must endowe themselves with knowledge ahead of time before making purchases on anything nowdays. Whether or not they offer it isn't something the users on here can do about it since this is a user forum not a HP support Forum. The reason why the consumer laptop is less expensive is because it doesn't have all those other extra stuff that is why they can sell it less in consumer version. What ever the demand is for inexpensive laptop and less extra stuff there will be a market for it. The consumer themselves must do the homework and find that laptop will best fit their needs and what other extras do they need for their line of work not what is pleasing to eye or least expensive to get.
I agree and admit that part of this is my error on my side.
I take this as a lesson learnt - never purchase an IT device solely based on the specifications; you have to really drill yourself to determine what you really need from your device and it's manufacturer (in my case: ADP). You also have to think long and hard because sometimes customer service is usually something that we think we do not need; usually in early stage or period of the ownership of the device, but if you plan to use it long-term, and especially when you need maximum up time and stable operability, a good customer service is probably what you want to have with your device purchase.

  • IPad 4th generation with Accidental Damage Protection

I have purchased an iPad 4th generation with Accidental Damage Protection on January 27, 2013 but it's still in perfect condition and I'm using an OtterBox Defender Case.  The iPad has never been dropped even in the OtterBox Defender Case.  There will be a new iPad Air 2 coming by the end of the year.  If I want to trade in the old iPad for a new iPad Air 2 that ships with iOS 8.  What happens if I have remaining time left on the protection plan if I want to trade in for a newer iPad model?  The protection plan is unused?

    Hi Keith,
Like Mbrguy mentioned, you would be able to cancel your service plan for a pro-rated refund if you ultimately decide to trade in your current iPad through our Trade In program. If you still have the original box, documentation, and Apple accessories, then make sure to bring these in as well to ensure you receive the highest trade in value possible. Just remember to remove any accessories that weren't originally included with the device though as these parts typically do not have a trade in value.
    I hope this helps!

  • Broken screen, Accidental damage protection not given by the hp service(ENVY-J049TX)

The laptop was on the bed and accidentally somebody sat (on the corner) on it by unintentionally. The laptop is really super slim, and with the bed cover color it was fully disguised in there. When i opened the lid the screen was broken. Took that HP laptop to local service center. After 7 days local hp service send me a mail that "the reason is neither accidental, nor coming under  the following  criteria of the ADP service". Please anyone give any suggestion  how to get my ADP. Or what to do now?? I would like to hear the view of any HP representative on this forum. I'm loosing hope for hp.

    Hi Tatha2014,
I just sent you a private message. If you are not sure how to check your forum messages, this post has instructions.

  • Accidental damage protection

Who sells such a thing for the MacBook? I wouldn't mind buying it if it were less than say... $175. I mean, this thing looks and feels mighty fragile, a far cry from the generally solid feeling MacBook Pros.

    Seanski,
You want insurance, not warranty coverage. You might want to check if your credit card has some type of product insurance protection built in (assuming you used a card to buy your MacBook), some provide both insurance AND warranty extension I think. Or as Joel C. noted, some homeowner/renter insurance policies can have additional riders for specific items such as computers. Good luck!

I have the first generation iPad and bought the apple care protection. Does it cover accidental damage?

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.

  • Will AppleCare protect a new MacBook Pro from accidental damages, liquid spills, etc?

I want to buy a new MacBook Pro 13 inch. I need to know what exactly the extended AppleCare plan covers. Does it covers accidents, and if not how much would it cost to fix the computer if there was one? Please help me!!!! I am choosing between Mac and a Dell!

There is no warranty that covers accidental damage, only defects from manufacturing or generic faults.

  • Genius bar considers it accidental damage $500 to fix

Just came from a Genius bar appointment for my brothers macbook pro because this morning he complained that the macbook doesn't sit properly on the table.
I looked at it and noticed that top right corner is higher than the other sides, causing it to wobble back and forth.
This macbook was just bought in October so i took it to them and upon one second of looking at it, he deemed it accidental damage and quoted me $500.
I asked for manager, who also refused to budge. Now what can I do? I checked google and there is no complaints department where we can voice our frustration.
The computer has never been dropped. I can notice some signs of damage by looking at the sides of the computer. But it's always been on protective cover. They said the display and the bottom case have to be replaced.
I'm so mad at this poor customer service. I asked them to show proof that we caused this damage. He's like the fact that its wobbly is prove enough.

  • I accidentally damaged the redemption code so i can't obtain a serial number. I am using an HP pavilion laptop. I am electronically challenged. Please help.

I accidentally damaged the redemption code for Photoshop Elements when I opened the box. I thought i was supposed to peel off the sticker to find the serial number. I am electronically challenged so this while process is confusing. please help. How can I obtain the necessary serial number?

John, let me explain.  I recently purchased Adobe Premier Elements from
Staple or Best Buy.  When I tried to install it, I was told that I needed
to go to an Adobe web site to get a serial number.  There was a piece of
paper in the box that I had purchased that contained a redemption code.  As
I went through the process on the Adobe site, I was told that I would be
shown a screen on which I would list that redemption code.  Once I had
entered that code, I would be given the serial number required to finish
the installation of the Premier Elements code on my Mac desktop.  I went
through the process several times and was never given a screen on which I
could enter the redemption code so I am unable to complete the installation
because I have no serial number.
Please let me hear from you.  I spent over $120 for the code and will take
it back to the retailer if I cannot finish the install.  This should not be
    this hard.

  • Apple Care Plus Accidental Damage for iPhone 3GS

I purchased Apple Care Plus (set to expire in April 2013) when I got my AT&T iPhone 3GS. The phone has started falling apart over the past year and last May the home button, ringer, and volume switches completely went on the phone and I have been using assistive touch ever since. I dropped my phone accidentally about a week ago cracking the screen beyond use. I figured I'd check my Apple Care account since my mother also dropped hers (she had AT&T's monthly protection plan and is getting her 3GS replaced with an iPhone 4S tomorrow) and it is being replaced with a newer model. I wasn't able to find any posts here or on the interwebs about whether or not your phone (after the $49 fee) is replaced with the same model or a newer model. I'm a few weeks away from an upgrade elegibility and since I'm in college, $49 compared to $199 does make a big difference. I've made an appointment with the genius bar for Tuesday, but would love to get some feedback before making the trip in there.
tl,dr: Will Apple replace my iPhone 3GS with another 3GS or can I get a newer model?
    Thanks!

Correct. Make an appointment at http://concierge.apple.com/reservation/us/en/techsupport/. You'll leave with a new phone at the end of your appointment. There is a $49 deductible for an AppleCare Plus replacement when you've had accidental damage (such as the cracked screen you mention).

  • Accidental Damage

I accidentally spilled on my laptop and I have a damage protection plan.  I would like to send my adult (30+) daughter in to give it to the Geeks to fix.  I am older and it would just be easier if she could help me out.  She has the plan number and the laptop, but the plan is in my name.  Will they give her any problems, should she take my license as well as hers? we have the same last name.

    Hello lakeland47,
Thank you for joining us on Best Buy Unboxed! You ask a great question. I'm sorry to hear about your poor laptop though.
Since you have your Geek Squad Protection plan ID number, your daughter should be able to drop off your computer with your local Geek Squad without any issue at all. For the best experience, I suggest scheduling an appointment before your daughter visits.
I hope this helps. If you have questions or concerns, please let me know. I'm very grateful that you wrote to us!
