Lack of Apps on 9380

i have recently purchased a 9380. good phone but very few apps available. many apps that i used on my old 9300 are not available viz., Blackberry travel, accuweather, ICE, Make my trip, QR code scanner Pro, The Times of India, The Weather Channel, Vlingo, VR+ Voice Recorder,Whats App, World Mate and many more. whats worsse is that many of these apps have been paid for and are now useless. newer apps that have been released such as The Economic Times are not available for this device. so then whats the use of 'upgrading' to a new phone. will Blackberry please wake up and set this right.

I too upgraded from BB Tour 9630 to BB Curve 9380. I had a steady set of apps which I used frequently like Travel. The availibility of apps (or the lack of it) for Curve 9380 has been a big disappointment & a nightmare for me. RIM has released OS 7.1. Not sure if that will be made available for Curve 9380. I just hope someone at RIM reads this & makes the apps available. Thats the least RIM can do for the Blackberry loyalists like me.

  • Lack of apps and games!

i've been a fan of nokia phones for a long time... last year i bought a nokia c7 and i love it but there is a big problem that nokia is having which is LACK OF APPS AND HD GAMES!!
i mean check out the app store or the android market with its amazing apps and fun games!!
and i started hating my phone for this!
can u find a solution? plz

There is no solution, but you have choices. You can wait and see what gets released or you can sell your phone and buy one that has the apps/games you want.
The symbian operating system is coming to an end (as announced in February 2011) so it's only natural that developers of apps/games have turned their attention to other platforms, such as Windows Phone that Nokia is now using as it's primary smartphone platform.

  • Lack of apps

Is it me or is there a lack of apps available in the bb world for the Z10. Can someone let me know if the feel same or if its just me doing something wrong

Over 100,000 apps. How many would be adequate?

  • Open Question: question to those who comment about the lack of apps for Windows Phone 8

We have read every Lumia review and we are listening. An open question to those who comment about the lack of apps for Windows Phone 8.Tell us which apps you miss? Nokia/MSFT Customer Care

The major apps that are missing are Banking Apps.  There are a few, but major banks like Regions Bank, Capital One Bank, are nowhere to be found for Windows Phone.  Microsoft should be pursuing these banks to develop apps for the platform.  Maybe bribe them with free software or tech support or something.  Also some of the dating apps like Grindr for the gay community, Blender for the straight community, are lacking as well.  Perhaps Microsoft could assist them in developing the "unified" app for both Windows and Windows Phone?
In fact, Microsoft would do well to begin a "Developer Assistance Program" where developers could (for a small fee) contact the DAP Center and get assistance with issues creating apps for the Windows Platform.  If developers know they have a source to go for assistance, they may be more inclinded to develop better apps.

  • LACK OF APPS FOR C7

    Hi,
I bought my C7 last December and paid a lot of money for it !!  as I had Nokia's previously I thought that I was doing a good investment.
However, I was proven wrong ...  the C7 is an excellent camera and looks amazing but that's all .. browser very difficult to use so I had to download the Opera one which doesn't support flash so no videos and, most important :  NO APPS
I see my friends with Androids and Iphones and I feel very jealous ...  all the apps are made for those phones only !
I really want to sell my phone but also the front camera stopped working after the Anna update so I will have to pay for the service before selling.  Thank you Nokia  !!
My question is to most experienced members of the forum .. should I sell it now or do you have news that Nokia will develop the apps section ?  gosh, can't believe I'm still hoping
    thank you

It's unlikely that you will see a massive increase in available apps for the symbian platform. It will most likely continue at it's current pace until Nokia ceases producing symbian models in the next few years.
It's been know for almost a year now that Symbians days are numbered and that Nokia is focusing on Windows Phone as it's primary platform. Apps for that platform have increased rapidly since Nokia released the Lumia 800 & 710 and some are predicting that it will beat iOS to the number 2 spot in 2015.
If apps are your priority now is probably a good time to sell as it's unlikely to greatly improve for you.

  • Lack off App (Viber, tango on z10)

    I'm disappointed,
I bought the Z10 there two weeks ago because I am a blackberry team since 2010.
I decided to stay on BB instead of HTC one but now I need applications such as skype, tango, viber and they do not work. We see in the app world but it is **bleep**

BlackBerry put the call out to developers to develop apps for it and many developers didn't answer the call. So what did BlackBerry do? They tinkered around with the OS so that Android apps could run on BB 10 phones. So now you can get all the BlackBery apps as well as most of the Android apps. How cool is that? All of a sudden, "not enough apps on BlackBerry" is no longer an excuse. Take a look at this to find out how to install Android apps on your phone:

    I hope that helps you.

  • Just for discussion - Lack of apps to leverage the power of Quicktime.

Folks, I just was really interested in hearing from the community about their interest in an app that really leverages all of the capabilities of Quicktime; particularly as a interactive medium.
I've only really found LiveStage Pro and Metadata Hootenanny to let me into Quicktime more than Quicktime Pro. I started this discussion because I was looking for something (on another post) that allowed me to leverage Quicktime in some similar was to Flash which I am not a fan of, but do acknowledge it's versatility and widespread use. See this interesting article:
    http://blog.vrarchitect.net/post/2008/04/18/challenge-to-the-flash-community-Qui cktime-is-better-than-Flash
Just for the sake of discussion, I'd love to hear your opinion on this - why Apple hasn't developed an app to really leverage Quicktime, if there are other apps than the two I mentioned above, wanting to be able to use Quicktime on the web just like Flash (or close to it). I really wish Quicktime was as embedded in browsers for instance as Flash seems to be. I always want to setup sites with Quicktime as my media of choice, but Flash seems to offer the interactive features that people want and are used to. This is a frustrating decision.
Hopefully, I am wrong about a lot of my perceptions and you all can shed some light on this discussions
For the record - I miss Cyberdog - for those of you who know what that is.
    Get well Steve!

why Apple hasn't developed an app to really leverage Quicktime, if there are other apps than the two I mentioned above, wanting to be able to use Quicktime on the web just like Flash (or close to it).
While I can't speak for the QuickTime product managers, it's clear to me that QuickTime has never been viewed as or designed to be an system for providing interactivity. Though some interactive capabilities exist, QT is really designed as a playback system. It's just a different product/market view. Flash was intended from it's inception as an interactive platform; it's just been recently that Macromedia and now Adobe have been trying to force Flash into the realm of being a more general playback platform.
For interactivity, Apple is advocating using web-standard techniques, particularly AJAX and SproutCore and so is very unlikely to attempt to add additional capabilities for interactivity to QuickTime itself.
I really wish Quicktime was as embedded in browsers for instance as Flash seems to be.
QT is just as embedded in browsers as Flash is. Both require the player plugin to be installed before a web browser can handle the media. I've not seen any browser with Flash support built in; they all use Adobe's plugin (I haven't even seen a browser distribution that bundles the plugin).
I miss Cyberdog - for those of you who know what that is.
An interesting concept but never really finished and saddled with the same sort of issues that OpenDoc had in general; way too complex to program for and an unclear concept on what the benefits really were over traditional application engineering. Many of the proposed benefits of component reuse were made unnecessary by the rapid increase in computer processing power and the equally rapid decrease in the cost of memory and storage (which has led unfortunately to some really sloppy programming techniques).

  • I am sick of my Q10 - no update to 10.2, no apps, no point in paying for data

I have a pay-as-you-go plan for my Q10, which includes 6GB and a hotspot.  All said and done, I pay $140 per month.  I can easily terminate my plan and get a discount on an iPhone at another provider.  I do not want to pay $700 for an iPhone.
I originally bought my Blackberry Q10 in August 2013.  I really like the interface, certain unique features and especially the physical keyboard.  When I bought the phone in August, i received an OS update very quickly, in August 2013!  Unfortunately, that was the last update I would ever receive.
My problem with the Q10 is the lack of apps.  I FINALLY got Instagram (I downloaded iGrann).  And yes - I know that you can get Android apps running on the Q10.  But every time that I try, I spend a ton of time searching for advice and the files I need.
And then - I FIND THAT TO DO ANYTHING USEFUL I NEED OS 10.2!  Why doesn't the Vine app(Whine) show up in the store?  Requires 10.2!  Want to easily sideload Android APK's with the Snap app?  10.2!  Want to get Snapchat on your phone?  10.2!  Want to get an app that requires Google Maps?  F*** that, it's not worth the time.
After searching for a long time today, I found that Verizon has released updates for the Z10.  Those users are on 10.2.  Why not me?  I guess there aren't enough Q10 users.  If I had been able to find a leaked version of 10.2, I would have tried that.  But I'm starting to think that I may never receive an update for this phone.  I have been waiting on this for about 6 months now, thinking that any week I'd get an update to 10.2.
I like Blackberry and I'm a developer.  I understand the massive challanged associated with developing your own OS and trying to get others to adopt it.  I want Blackberry to succeed and if they do, I might try them again in a few years.
I also like Verizon a lot.  Good customer service, good network speeds & availability.  But I have a hard time understanding why I should stick with this crappy phone for another 18 months.
This really sucks.  I'm paying a lot of money and I don't feel like I'm getting the experience I deserve on this phone.

Thank you so much for releasing this update Verizon! That was really fast. This must have been in the works for a few months.
I am much happier with my phone now. I really like some of the UI changes that BB implemented, like the in-app Text notifications.
The upgrade process took a little longer than it should.  I think this is because my device is encrypted.  It literally took 8 or 9 hours.  I would recommend backing up before upgrading.
Once it was installed, I was able to download the Snap client for Android Apps.  Snap makes it very, very easy to download new apps quickly.
    These apps work really well:
    - Snapchat: there's a few notifications saying it requires Play Services, but seems to work well.  havent used all the features.
    - Duolingo: great for learning Spanish, German, etc.  works really well on BB
    - Tinder: seems to work
These android apps have a few problems with BB
    - Vine: there's no way to complete the signup forms on BB.  this may work if you already have a login.
    - Spotify: runs slowly on Q10, difficult to log in to this app (i needed to get creative).  works alright with downloaded playlists.
    Apps i wish i had:
    - Secret (iOS only)
    - Firechat (iOS only, probably iOS exclusive for a few years)

  • Lumia 800 Cannot Download a single App from Market...

    Hello,
I've just bought a Lumia 800 on July 20, 2012 from a retailer in the Philippines and am using it in the same.
I downloaded Zune for Windows 7 on my dual boot mac. I downloaded all updates till Zune said there was no more available on the Windows 7 partition. It succesfully installed. I am up to date according to the latest firmware as noted on Nokia firmware and MS OS as of today.
I have not been able to download a single app since I got the phone. I use the marketplace app on the phone and have also tried "pushing" the app from the marketplace on Firefox/Chrome on my Mac and PC.
The phone goes to marketplace downloads, says "Pending" starts to says "Downloading 0%" till it says "Tap here" then I have to retry download. Been trying this all night, and have been reseting the phone by holding the button below the volume control till the phone says "Goodbye" then I boot it up and the same still happens.
I've also tried a hard reset, formatting to factory settings. That did not let me download a single app either. Since I needed the phone, I restored my data. I have been using a wifi connection with broadband at home. I can surf IE on the phone, check mail, but the marketplace has always been off for the few days I've owned the darn thing. I can open the marketplace app, I can see apps, I can browse them, and I can click install, reinstall (for some reason Windows Live thinks its already installed).
Am I missing something? I tried cancelling all other downloads except Whatsapp and still no dice. I've cancelled all downloads, restarted and tried again and to this day, I have an app phone that can't get apps from it's own marketplace.
I tried setting my windows live ID to jive with my region and language, all the same, US or Philippine english, nothing.
I've tried writing emails to Nokia Philippines support and after typing all this they just told me to 1. open marketplace app, 2. Click Download (Arrgghhhh talk about canned STUPID RESPONSES, the guy obviously did not read my email that I did the same.)
    Please help me.

Hi kosh, Yes I have done a hard reset even at the risk of losing all my contacts. I've also tried creating a new live ID to sign in after the hard reset was made. Sadly such did not work so I eventually just restored my contacts. I find it disappointing that groups does not sync so if ever I do need to change live IDs I'll have to remake all the groups again. Such is the loss of a loyal Nokia customer who has to pay for Symbian going and ms entering. I find it odd that I would even have to create a new live account as the one already designated as the primary account attached to the phone was created upon first boot of the phone. But I guess there's no loss trying one more time since accounts are free. I'll have to do it some other time as I am currently mobile and had to leave the phone cause the total lack of apps has rendered it insufficient for my needs. I will update the forum once Nokia and/or Microsoft contacts me. Really hoping they just replace the darn thing since I bought the phone open line out of carrier making this feel more of a waste, and I wouldn't want a phone like this sent for repair this fresh or given a refurb.

  • Lumia 822 lacks good ereader and camera sucks

Lumia 822 lacks decent app to enjoy books and magazines and camera sucks
I bought the Nokia Lumia 822 because it allowed use of a micro SD card which would expand available memory and because it came with Office.  I have been happy with the SD card capability (although today I had to reseat the SD card because the card doesn’t snap into place, it just kind of sits there – I ended up losing all my photos from March 2013, but, hey, at least the majority were there).  Office is functional though I wouldn’t be able to do major spreadsheets in it.  I also had to send back my original phone for a refurbished phone when it crashed about a week after that major update.  I wasn't happy about receiving a refurbished phone, considering what a personal item a cellphone is.
While I knew apps were a limitation being on the bleeding edge of technology, I assumed they would emerge soon enough and was willing to wait.  I bought the phone in November 2012 and as of today (April 2013), there still is no decent app with which to buy books and magazines.  This is a major bummer.
As an amateur photographer, I find the Nokia Lumia 822 Windows Phone camera incredibly disappointing on its own and particularly with respect to the iPhone 5.  This is in stark contrast to Nokia’s assertion that they will set themselves apart with their cameras and comes after a February (or March?) 2013 update that was supposed to fix the camera’s color issues.  It previously had a green tint, which improved with the update but the color is still not great.  Just to note up front, I am not an Apple fanboi by any stretch, preferring the Microsoft Surface as opposed to the iPad3 (both of which I have owned).
The Lumia 822 camera takes forever to focus and shoot once you’ve hit the screen.  If you instead choose to shoot using the camera button, you have to press so hard that the phone inevitably shakes.  The pictures come out blurry with  washed out colors no matter what you do.  Taking the same shot with the iPhone 5, it shoots quickly and comes out crystal clear, with vibrant colors.  I have noticed that the largest photo size on the Lumia 822 is like 2 MB, while it is over 4 MB on the iPhone 5.
Today, when I tried to send some photos from my brother’s iPhone 5 to the Lumia 822, I noticed that Apple provided 3 choices – the original photo size, which was like 4.5 MB, a medium photo size and a small photo size.  Such choices are not available on the Lumia 822.  In any case, I chose the original size of 4.5 MB and when I received the photo on the Lumia 822 chose Save to Phone.  Yet when I forwarded my mom that same photo from my Lumia 822, it sent as 850 KB.  I don’t know how to see the size of the photo that was saved on my phone but I’m guessing it wasn’t 4.5 MB for whatever reason.
I had been psyched about the upcoming Lumia that was a 41 megapixel camera but now I even have doubts about that.
I actually bought Nokia stock, some at $3.56 and some at $4.58, but I’m starting to regret it.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I think you should have picked 920 instead of 822, I believe their new release 720 has better camera than 820/822.
I bought 920 for my brother as present, he is a good man and always wanted to upgrade his old phone to smartphone era.. Anyways, 920 felt superb, camera seemed quality wise similar to my Iphone 4s, which was excellent camera for smartphone, but it also added OIS and some nifty photolenses, like that animation edit thing and excellent other features that made my own Iphone pale in comparison.
As what comes to me, I bought Nokia 808 over 920 which I now regret. Quality wise 808 is WAYYY superior even to my Sony Alpha 300 SLR with basic lens. I still cannot believe how sharp and realistic images I get. Add excellent video recording and that lossless zoom, I absolutely love it. But as compared into Iphone as a phone and portable media device Nokia Pureview 808 is so bad! Browsing internet is worse, watching videos is worse, settings are mess up.. Its usable but I would give it an poor grade as a SMARTPHONE, as this tiny camera; Superior.
920 would have given me Excellent camera with all the other great sh*t Nokia offers nowadays.
I am waiting 920 + 808 combo Lumia with 41Mpx lossless zoom and OIS, with water proof and solar energy!

  • Few apps problem after 10.3.1.1565 update.

#1 SMS app have problems with displaying. When going into that app system always go thru bb hub and so black background from options to lower battery consumption does not work.
    #2 BBM
     - Problem with vertical displaying. When keyboard is active to write a msg it overlaps written text window preventing user from seeing what he wrote. Also there is a problem with showing latest msg in a chat during writing msg in both modes (horizontal and vertical)
     - When running BBM app thru a hub its possible to switch it into horizontal mode. When accessing it from 'desktop' it's impossible to switch BBM into horizontal position (was that way in previous version too).
#3 Clock - modes of the app were removed from bottom of the screen. Now to switch between alarm clock, timer and other its necessary to open side menu therefor i'm forced to make more work to get into designed mode at the time needed. Make it the way it was in previous version! Also timer clock looks awful...
#4 Assistant - What the hell is that? Why does it look like windows phone and how the hell turn it off?!
Last but probably not least why there was addes some stupid 'home screen' desktop? Its pointless and useless to have it! Its just old block screen without password block. Another thing to dispose of or atleast make an option to disable it!
    - edit-
I did forgot about the amazon appstore. Why the hell i'm forced to have some android appstore on my phone and I can't remove that thing from the desktop?

For BBM, check BBWorld to make sure you have the latest version.
For SMS, the dark background is just in the individual conversations, not in the Hub itself
For Clock, that's just the way it is now.
For Assistant, you don't have to use it. It's a voice/text search assistant. Use it if you want, don't use it if you don't want. Up to you.
Home screen desktop: Go to main Settings >Display. At the very top disable "Show Wallpaper When All Apps Are Closed.
You have the Amazon app store so you can get apps, many of which are not available in BBWorld. Don't use it if you don't want to. Seems BlackBerry can't win--some complain for lack of apps, others complain because apps have been added.

  • Where's the App Updater on the N79?

This might be a T-Mobile software quirk, but I can't find the App Updater on my N79. I've read that it exists for this phone, but I don't seem to have it. How can I get it?
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

Have you got the v20 or newer firmware?
I believe that is when they added it for that model, like they did with the 5800 and N96.
Some other t-mobile branded models appear to lack the app updater, even though they have the required firmware.

  • APP expose/ Show desktop doesn't work in Safari and Mail

These gestures work in my other apps but not in these two mac branded and updated apps.
The lack of app expose is particularly infuriating in Safari where you can occassionally have more than one window open.  Anyone else notice this?  any solutions?
    thanks

I get you.  I am thinking more pop ups or other unintended new windows that open from time to time (Even in safari).
I liked using expose to see only my in app windows.  It was an easy way to clean up clutter  Mission control is there, but it shows everything.
I just dont understand why they wouldnt allow it to work.  people could have the choice to use mission control or expose.  They are not completely redundant processes.

  • Not Many Apps for Mac

I just got the new iMac and the lack of apps for this computer is dissappointing.  I have an ipad and I have many apps on there that I would like to be able to use on my Mac, since most of my day is spent on the Mac.  By syncing my ipad on the Mac, would that grant me access to those apps?

Nope. The iPad Apps are not compatible with the Mac.
