Lack of "Call answered" indication - Nokia 6300

This seems a very basic point - when you make an outgoing call, the screen icon does NOT seem to change when the call is answered.
Is this just a strangely omitted feature from an otherwise reasonable phone, or does 'call progress' have to be enabled somehow from a setting I have not yet found ? (Or do I need better glasses ?! )
My previous Philips phone (bought in 2002!) showed this clearly, so you could hold the phone away from your ear and watch the screen while waiting for the called person to answer.
This does not seem to be possible from the supposedly more advanced Nokia phone.

Is it ok to e-mail me the 3dparty name or link because i haven't been able to find anything on the we if yes my e-mail is , also does that means that Nokia is never going to include thiw functionality in her Pc-Suite ?
Creating a contact for every mobile phone you are callin seems ok for home users but not for business use it is out of the question and least but not last not convinient !!

  • Nokia 6300, iSync, and Contact Photos-

Thanks to the following links, I was able to get my new Nokia 6300 to successfully sync with my Mac’s Address Book via iSync:
    http://klauskjeldsen.dk/2007/06/08/free-nokia-6300-isync-plugin/
    http://nokia6300.net/8/new-version-of-the-nokia-6300-isync-plugin
    http://brent.kearneys.ca/technology/2007/how-to-sync-a-nokia-6300-on-osx/
    http://kaspers.freeflux.net/blog/archive/2007/04/13/how-to-isync-a-nokia-6300.html
Unfortunately, two things didn’t sync up: Birthdays and Contact Photos. After politely asking people if there was any way to get these to work (especially photos, as it’s nice to see someone’s picture pop up on the phone for faster recognition before you unceremoniously reject them) I tried to tackle this one on my own. I was able to dig around in the plist files of the Nokia N93 and glean the few lines that make both of these details available to the Nokia 6300 plugin.
Before we begin however, I’ve noticed some problems that can occur with Photo syncing. PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY before continuing: it’ll save some head-banging and frustration later.
Failing to follow the following guidelines will result in a completely failed sync. Should this happen, I simply deleted all of my contacts on the phone (phone memory, not SIM card), tried to determine the problem, and tried again.
Also, note that if you do end up deleting all of the contacts on your phone, you’ll also lose your 1-touch dialing and the entries in your caller groups (but not the groups themselves).
    Here we go:
Do not use .GIF files — JPG only! (I didn’t test PNG)
You cannot drag-and-drop from a web-page directly onto a contact. Although this works for Address Book in that you’ll see the ‘image edit’ window pop-open, and you can save your contact, when it comes to iSync your entire sync will fail. If you want to use someone’s image (from Facebook, for example) simply drag the photo you want from the web-page onto your desktop, and then drag the photo from your desktop onto the Address Book entry’s ‘contact photo’ area. You’re then free to delete the image from your desktop.
You cannot sync with a ’smart group’ that you created within Address Book. This has more to do with iSync than the new plugin, but it’s a pain nonetheless. Physical groups only!
When a sync fails, you are not told what failed, or why it failed. iSync detailed logs are useless too, stating only:
5:28:24 PM Error [Nokia 6300] An unexpected error occured.
5:28:24 PM Error Device "Nokia 6300" synchronization failed
Fun! What I did was create a ‘temp’ group, set iSync to sync with that folder only for contacts, and then slowly add contacts into that temp group until a failure occurred so that I knew what the offending entry was.
The plugin that I’ve created is essentially just the one from the site listed above, but with some additional properties put into the PhoneContuit.plist and SyncEngine.plist files.
As with everyone else, I take no responsibility if this completely fcks up your phone or Address Book, but please do backup both your Address Book (File -> Back Up Address Book…) and your phone’s contacts (I typically just copy everything to SIM). I can say that this has worked fine for me for a day now, with a fair bit of testing. After I cleaned up my offending image-entries, it’s been great.
To install: Quit iSync, download the following zip file, and drag-and-drop the plugin into your system using the shortcut, and sync away.

  • Nokia 6300 firmware wishlist

    Hello!
Let's give our suggestions for improving the Nokia 6300's firmware. Post feature requests, bugs and ergonomy issues.
    Contact list:
    * All the fields of a contact should be searchable (name, surname, phone number etc...)
    * The user should be able to hide groups in the contact list, as they are disturbing; in some cases, groups are only used to assign a specific ringtone to its contacts.
    * The change of a contact's name should reflect on the Call log and Inbox. Currently, the names displayed in the Inbox and Call log will remain the same, even after a contact's name has been changed in the contact list.

    1. when i try to play video clip (@176x144 resolution) on my nokia 6300 in full screen mode there are two white bars on the left & right side of the screen. Means the video doesn't fit to the screen. so please try to remove this problem on the next firmware update.
    2. please add brightness control in the next update.
    3. please add music player & radio themes.
    4. please add full screen web browser in the next update like nokia 5220.
    5. please add landscape mode and manual iso settings in the camera.
    6. remove maximum 1 mb jar size limitation.
    7. increase the video recording quality because its really poor & its a shame for a two mega pixel camera.
    8. increase the volume in the music player.
    9. add visualization in the music player.
    10. Add proxy address and proxy port in the access point settings for opera mini.

  • Nokia 6300 problem list

Hi, just got the 6300, updated the firmware to V05.00.
I found three problems with the new firmware, (some were on the old firmware to):
1)The # button does not put the phone on "silent" mode.
2)I can not change the standby font color.
3)The incoming call alert is always ascending even though it is on "ringing".
If any body found more problems write them down here and hopefully Nokia will fix the problems in the next firmware update.

    Hi,
Day before yesterday I bought a Nokia 6300 set. But, yesterday I found that the screen saver is not working on this set.I mean if I have kept the time out of screen saver as 10 sec and if no action is taking place in the phone for 10 sec then screen saver should start automatically, but this is not happening.
If anyone else out there is facing the same problem, then let me know. Otherwise someone please tell me the solution for this as this problem eats up lot of my battery backup.

  • Nokia 6300 security code

    hi,
can any one help me in finding default "call barring password"
i read the FAQ of nokila web site for model 6300 it says default security code for nokia 6300 is "12345" where as when i try to activate call barring service it asks for " barring password" and takes only 4 digits please help me in finding the call barring password thanks

    On a serious note.
If you have forgotten the code then you need to take it to a Nokia Care Point where they are able to remove it for you.
They will also remove all personal data stored on the phone at the same time as it needs completely erasing.
You will usually need a proof of purchase to prove the phone isnt stolen and you are trying to access it, and they will probably charge you for it as its not a warranty fault.
You can find the nearest NCP to you at the Store Locator

  • NOKIA 6300 UPGRADE

I recently upgraded my mobile 6300 from software version 05.00 to 6.6.Can anyone inform me what enhancement the new software offers???cause I haven't seen nothing so far. Thanks in advance
    Solved!

You can check this out to appreciate the upgrade you've made..
    Layman's:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6300
    Techie:
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/resources/documentation/series40.html
    From Wiki:
With the latest firmware version (currently 06.60, not available for some local models such as North American) Nokia 6300 is capable of smoothly playing MPEG-4 (*.mp4) files with a QCIF resolution (176*144) and a frame rate of up to 25 frames per second. The phone allows the user to view the video clips in full-screen landscape mode and set the fast-forward/rewind interval from a few seconds to minutes. Improved audio quality for music playback was also noted for this firmware version, thus making the Nokia 6300 a music phone similar to it's counterparts, the Nokia XpressMusic. In addition, video clips can replace ringtones so that an actual motion picture is shown while there is an incoming call.

  • Length of the ringtone, nokia 6300

I am from the Netherlands so forgive me my bad english.
the problem is that my nokia 6300 only rings 4 times when someone calls me and then it goes to the voicemail.
I want the phone to ring more times before it goes to the voicemail.
how can I change this ?
    thanks in advance,
    Yvonne8

Sometimes, the ring duration depends on the caller's network too. Some network don't like to get their network busy, so they have a limit on the call's ring period. Eg: If "A" calls you and his network's limit is 40 secs, your phone will ring only for 40 secs. But if your network has a limit of 60secs, when you call "A", his phone will ring for 60secs despite his network limit too. But this is always network dependent.

  • Nokia 6300 queries

    Hi,
I've just got a Nokia 6300 (I'm use pay as you go) and I've got a few queries and wondered if anyone could help?
    - Is there an easy way of finding out my balance? (Right now it only comes up after a call/text messge)
    - How do I find out my own number? (I can never remember it)
    - Is there a way of setting a photo I've taken as the theme? (Rather than a Nokia theme)
    Thanks a lot!

    Ad 1):
This is operator-dependent, e.g. I dial their free service number, and the balance comes back as an on-display message. Check with your operator.
    Ad 2):
I have a folder "My numbers" in Contacts - but I am not sure whether this is standard or an operator-specific extra. I guess the former, as it works fine on my phone whis is an ex-T-mobile manually reconfigured to O2.
    Ad 3):
Within the phone, a photo can be set easily as a background of the welcome page or the screensaver, but not as the background under the menu or icons. If you want to do that, you have to produce your theme as a *.nth file, copy it to your phone and set it as a background. It is easier than it sounds - if you want to change only the background and not the icons, a free online theme creator is available e.g. on Zedge - all you need is a cable to upload your photos :-).
    Hope it helps

  • Nokia 6300 screen fault??

    Hi
I bought my Nokia 6300 from eBay and i believe it was shipped to me in the UK from Hong Kong...
It was working fine when I got it..
But about 2 weeks ago, when I was talking on the phone for about 30mins and then after I hung up the call, the screen just went blank and green lines started flickering on it. I then had to take the battery out and put it back in to get it working.
But it doesnt happen all the time, just sometimes when Im on the phone and I hang up, it goes blank...but Ive used it numerous times without it going blank aswell.
It was bought from eBay so doubt its got warranty, however there is a sticker on the back that says 'Nokia Care' and its got a code with it. But is that valid for Hong kong residents only?
Has anyone else had this problem? Any way to fix it??
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Nokia 6300 5.50 6.01

After update phone i slower than before, slower access to microSD card and slower menu showing. When will be backlight control (time and sesitive) possible?

    Hello,
I have updated my phone (Nokia 6300) from 5.50 to 6.01 using the updating software I have downloaded from Nokia's web site. Everything went well. No errors. Everything went by the book.
The reason I have upgraded is that I want to be able to play the movies at 25 fps (in 6.01) instead of 15 fps (in 5.50). The accepted resolution of the movie still does not fit the entire screen though. I guess there was a miss-calculation of harware resources when the phone was designed (or maybe I'm wrong...they know better).
The problem is that after the upgrade, when somebody is calling me I cannot see the name of the person displayed on the screen (persons already registered in my agenda). I am seeing the number only.
Unless I have called first the person in my agenda (and that particular person from my agenda has called me first), I can see only the number in the missed calls list, but not the name.
I have tried to write the contacts again from the backup. I have tried to edit the numbers in international format (instead of 072xxxxxxx, I have put +4072xxxxxxx). Nothing works. This is very frustrating since my agenda has almost no value now. I don't know who is calling me. Other people on different forums have reported this software BUG, but I see nobody has complained on this particular forum. I hope the engineers from Nokia will repair this very soon (I mean VERY!). Lucky for me I have some very cheap Chinese mobile phone as a backup until Nokia solves the problem. At least on that one I can see who is calling me. Also the battery lasts at least twice as long compared with the Nokia 6300 (BL-4C battery) one, but I guess it is fair comparing the features and the power consumption for each of them.
The speed of the card access and the menu seems a little bit slower to me also. But this is nothing compared with the BUG I have mentioned above.
    Thank you for attention!

  • NOKIA 6300 ACCOUSTIC SQUEAL

    Hi,
After several incidents of getting a high-pitched squeal from the earpiece of my NOKIA 6300 when making/receiving calls I have taken it to a Nokia Care Centre in Melbourne for assessment and they have replaced the earpiece, which hopefully fixes this SERIOUS FAULT.
I will be closely monitoring the phone for a recurrence of this event as the sound is so loud (as expressed by many unique users of this model in different threads on this website's forum) that it can cause temporary hearing loss and maybe even damage the ears.
Unfortunately NOKIA haven't made any sort of official announcement about this problem in this model and I am seriously considering reporting this to RECALLS AUSTRALIA and CONSUMER AFFAIRS due to the potentially serious nature of this type of fault.

i have had 2 brand new 6300's and both have never had this issue , purchased from O2-UK, i would imagine if this was a known fault nokia would know about it and the NCP would have told you at the time.
hope your new earpiece is workign fine now

Hi, pls i need some firmware on Nokia 6300 with CZ langue. Thx for link and answers.

Like many others I share the frustrations of Nokia PC Suite not enabling me to transfer SMS messages from 'My Folders' (in my case a Nokia 6310i and PC Suite 4.8x).

  • Nokia 6300 high pitched whistling feedback noise d...

I am now on my fourth Nokia 6300 having returned the previous three because of the same high pitched whistling or feedback noise during a call. I have also tried updating my SIM card (a genius at Vodafone came up with that idea) and still the same problem.
I know of a couple of people with the same phone and no problems, so I can only suppose it is something to do with the Vodafone software.
I would be happy to try updating or re-loading the software but cannot find it anywhere?
I really like everything else about this phone so any helpful suggestions would be appreciated!

I also recently upgraded my wonderful 6233 with a 6300. The ear-piece of the first one I got produced a constant buzz during calls. Returned it, got a new one on the spot. After a few days, I started having complaints about my audio at the other end; the symptom was a very high noise level (coming from my end) together with echo (the caller would hear their voice echoed back). I had also started noticing a distorted low-level replica of my own voice present at the ear-piece. The first thing that came to mind was "oh no, another replacement!". Being a bit of an inquisitive mind though, I decided to debug this a bid further. So I browsed the web, and among other things came across this thread. The turning point was correlating the problem with reports of Bluetooth incompatibility from various users right and left; as it turns out, the 6300 appears to have a serious Bluetooth "problem". To make a long story short, the situation is as follows. After the phone is turned on, all is well: audio at the other end is perfect (no noise, no echo). Then I turn on my Motorola H700 head-set. Call the phone from a land-line, and yes, the noise level is high as hell; the mic gain is turned up so much that you can whisper a couple of meters away and hear yourself just fine on the other end! Here comes the catch: turn off the Bluetooth head-set, and surprise-surprise, the problem is still there with the built-in mic; turning off and on the phone cures it. But wait, this doesn't happen always. Sometimes the mic level goes back to what it was before, and the phone is working fine once more, without power-cycling.
That's more or less it; I hope it rings a bell with someone reading these lines, and hopefully it gets fixed in a future firmware revision. In the meantime, I need a new Bluetooth head-set...

  • Nokia 6300 not switching on

I tried to switch on my ~Nokia 6300 the screen and music comes on but after a while the screen goes blank (white) then the phone switches off

My Nokia 6300 is becoming a nightmare.  It is actually my elderly mother's and she has just found that it is not turning ON.
1)I have changed the sim card and put mine in and it starts up, Nokia start up, then fades to black.  Turns off.
So changing the sim did not rectify the problem.
    2) I have tried charging it for long periods.  )note: the usb port for the charger is fragile, by that I mean 'not secure'.  I'm getting pretty cheesed off. )
This appears not to rectify the problem.
    3) I have searched google for forums and support for this problem and MANY posts about this problem with the Nokia 6300 but next to no solutions.
    4) The only Nokia Service Centre is in an outer suburb called Morley, Western Australia.
I know this as I have had to take other Nokia's there and am getting pretty tired of it.  (No after service or duty of care form the carriers ie. telstra etc)
CAN ANYONE FROM NOKIA INFORM ME WHY THIS NOKIA 6300, AND MANY OTHERS IT APPEARS, TURN THEMSELVES OFF AND WILL NOT RESTART.  IF THEY DO RESTART IT IS ONLY FOR ABOUT 6 SECONDS.
Very frustrated and would appreciated a positive response on a way forward.
It is looking pretty clear to me that Nokia is no longer on top of it's game.  Service is as important as the sale.
