Lack of Push Notifications since OTA

Ever since I took the OTA Firmware update last week, I have had issues with a lack of push notifications on my Incredible 2.  Gmail, work email, Facebook, InstaGram, Twitter and more all require a manual "refresh" for me to get my emails and more.
I also have this battery charging issue that appears to be widespread on the boards here, but that is another matter.
Anyone else experiencing this push notification issue since the OTA?

FWIW - The Background Data option under "Accounts & Sync" in Settings was disabled by the OTA.  Not only was my Exchange disabled, but I had to re-enter my Gmail address.  Once enabled and re-entered, I seem to have re-enabled my push notifications.
Now about this battery charging issue....

  • No push notifications since upgrade to iOS 5

Since upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 I have not been able to receive push notifications for any of my apps or email accounts. I have tried turning things off and on, resetting things, and re-installing apps. Nothing has worked. Any ideas?

    Max,
If you're an iCloud user, go through your iCloud settings and turn the components off then back on. That seemed to work for me. If you're not an iCloud user, go through your notifications settings and do the same.
This all seemed to work for me at least all of my notifications except for email, having sporadic issues with that. Hopefully our friends at Apple will have a fix soon.

    Hey TH7279,
Thanks for the question. What happens when you attempt to send mail? Do you receive an error message? If so, check out the following resource for helpful information on common error messages:

  • Anyone else have issues with no push notifications for ScoreCenter and CNBC RT?

Ever since updating to the iPhone 5, I have been unable to recieve push notifcations for my team alerts in ScoreCenter, but breaking news alerts work fine. I have tried deleting and reinstalling with no sucess. The same goes for CNB RT. No push notifications since the iPhone 5, even though, like ScoreCenter, it says alerts are on. I do not think this is an iOS 6 problem because both of these problems are non-issues on my iPad running iOS 6. Anyone else having these problems, or have any suggestions? Thanks.

  • No push notifications in iOS 7.1

Hi, I have a problem with my push notifications since I updated to iOS 7.1. I do get push notifications from my Mail app, but Whatsapp and Facebook fail to do this. Quite annoying... Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm seeing similar issues, although only for certain apps - for some apps, push notifications are still working after updating to iOS 7.1, but for other apps the push notifications have stopped working. And the settings in the Notifications centre are the same as before the update when notifications were working.

  • Push Notifications gone in OS4?

    Hey gang-
Upgraded today to OS4 on my iPhone 3GS. Anyone else noticed that Push Notifications have gone silent since the upgrade? Two of my most "chatty" apps- CNN and Trapster- have given not a single Push Notification since I upgraded. I have Notifications turned on for all apps, and I've tried both with Wifi and 3G. Anyone gotten Push Notifications from these apps since upgrading?
    Dave

I've noticed this too with my iPhone 4 -- with a few oddities. I was able to restore notifications from MLB AtBat and TextPlus by enabling them BOTH within Settings and then within the app, which had its own settings (confusing).
I have not received a single CNN or AP Mobile notification on my iPhone 4 -- both of those are turned on in Settings and neither seems to have an in-app setting. I KNOW they have been pushing notifications, as before I sold my 3GS and AFTER I upgraded it to iOS4, I used it via WiFi on Thursday, and notifications from both apps came through that did not come through on my iPhone 4.
Meebo notifications are also working, although Meebo has its own annoyance in that if I sign out, it'll sign me right back in after I leave the app, apparently due to the multitasking, because if I manually close out of it in the multitasking manager, it stops happening. I don't think Meebo has been upgraded for iOS4 yet, so maybe they'll fix that in the next upgrade.
The CNN thing is seriously annoying. I'm wondering if deleting from the phone and restoring from my Mac would help.

  • TS1470 Since very recently whenever I connect to Whatsapp and a few other Apps I get the following message  " CONNECT TO I TUNES TO USE PUSH NOTIFICATIONS"   After connecting to I Tunes I am unable to find any solution there

Since recently whenever whenever I check any application especially WhatsApp, before it opens I get the following notification:
: CONNECT TO I TUNES TO USE PUSH NOTIFICATIONS: After connecting to I Tunes I find no solution there?

Dropbox is virtually disabled on my phone now because of these messages, and most other apps are now difficult to use. I have rebooted the phone several times, reset network settings and restored factory settings (and had to make all my adjustments again) but nothing worked. My phone is now almost totally useless.

  • HT201210 Since my update to IOS7 all my apps say that I have to go to itunes for push notifications. What? I cant find that option anywhere, and I am ready to push this phone through an open window.

Please HELP ME !! Ever since I updated my phone to the IOS7 it has not allowed me to have push notifications on any apps. It states that I must go to itunes to get push notifications.  However, I go to itunes on my phone it is just the store, I go on my computer it just shows what apps I have.  This is beyond frustrating.

    Hey Chapup,
First, I would try this and see if it applies to your situation:
To use certain services, iTunes must download and install an authentication token on the device. Because iPad and iPod touch do not require an active Internet connection to activate, these tokens may not be downloaded and installed during initial setup.
You can resolve this issue by verifying that iTunes has an active Internet connection. Use the following steps:
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
Verify that your Mac or PC has an active Internet connection by accessing the iTunes Store in iTunes.
Connect your iPad or iPod touch to your Mac or PC.
After the sync completes, verify you can access YouTube.
Note: iTunes 9.1 or later is required when using iPad.
via: iPad and iPod touch: Unable to use YouTube or Push notifications
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3305
And if that doesn't resolve the issue then I would backup the device to iTunes and restore it. Just be cautious and back up first, since restoring deletes all content and settings:

  • Why are push notifications from websites not working since 10.9.3?

Since upgrading to OS X 10.9.3 on an early 2013 15 inch MBP Retina(8 GB RAM, 2.4GHz i7), push notifications from websites I had authorized (e.g. CNN, NYT, 9to5 Mac) stopped coming in.  I figured I would wait for another upgrade to see if that resolved the problem, but it has not.  I do participate in the Mavericks beta testing program, but am now running the official OS X 10.9.4, not the beta version.  I did provide feedback via the feedback assistant for this issue to the beta program as well.  Also, I figured I would go in and delete the websites that I had listed under notifications in System Preferences, but there is no way that I see to delete them at all (only go from banner or alerts to none).  Lastly, I did add one site to notifications since upgrading and I am getting push notifications from that site, but only that site.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks!

Open the Library folder in your home folder by holding down the option key and selecting
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Navigate in the usual way to each of the following items and move it to the Trash:
              Application Support/NotificationCenter
              Caches/com.apple.Safari/RemoteNotifications
              Caches/SafariNotificationAgent
              Safari/RemoteNotifications/Permissions.plist
Log out or restart the computer. Test.

  • FIXED: Yahoo Push Notifications for Multiple Accounts on ICS - Working

I have a Razr Maxx that I manually updated to ICS the day the OTA was available.
I had previously set up a couple of Yahoo/AT&T accounts and Gmail and they were working just fine.
Gmail continued to work but I stopped receiving push notifications from Yahoo/AT&T.
    I found this post: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/772698
There was no way I was going to do a hard reset as a first option. Nor did I want to delete and re-enter all the account information for all the accounts. So I decided the easiest, first step would be to try the "clear the cache" "Alternate method".
Step 4 states "Press Volume Down to select Recovery then press Volume Up". However, every other step states to "press Power button" to select. I pressed "Power button" instead of pushing the volume up to select.
Upon complete restart I got notifications on all my Yahoo/AT&T accounts.
    Hope this helps.

I've had Yahoo since my iPhone 3G and the push notification has consistently been flaky so this is nothing new for me.  You can contact Yahoo via their website, submit a troubleshooting request, and they will look into it.
As an anecdote, my iCloud and Gmail (Google Apps) accounts have been consistently more reliable than Yahoo for push notification. If Push is a primary concern, you might look into getting a free iCloud account (no ads!).

  • Why no email push notification?

I'm just wondering if there is a reason why the iPhone still lacks Push Notifications for email? Sure it pushes MobileMe, GMail etc, but only vibrates rather than telling me how many emails (like SMS/voicemail etc). Or, are there any apps that can do this? As unlocking the phone only to see it's junk mail, is a real pain!

This is because it makes no sense, and you don't understand what push notifications are for or how they work. Push notifications are to substitute for lack of background function for 3rd party apps. That way you get a notice "pushed" from a server for news alerts, IM messages, etc. even though the apps they're directed to are closed. Since Mail is always functioning, there is no reason for a separate push notification for mail it already received.
What you're really complaining about is that there is no display on the locked phone screen showing the email. SMS and VM show these, but they aren't "push notifications".
If you want to suggest this to Apple, post it on the iPhone Feedback page. This is a user-to-user only tech support forum. No one here can speak for Apples decisions or policies.
