Lack of reply and Lost threads!

I have posted two threads here:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=251472#251472
and here:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=251505#251505
Neither have been replied to and to complicate matters I cannot find them in the front page of the forum. This effectively means that they will never be seen by any helper. Can they be "bumped" or do I re-submit and wait again or what?

Hi
You should click on your User nick name.

  • Locked out of Apple ID AND lost Recovery Key for two-step verification

    Hey guys,
Firstly, as the title implies, this is a double-whammy of a problem, and obviously, it is very much my fault. The reason I'm bothering to post this, however, is to find out if anyone else has had this issue and where they are at with it.
    The story:
I set up two-step verification on my Apple ID about a year ago as I thought it was a good idea. I wrote the Recovery Key down as it told you to, and put it in a folder full of other important documents. In a epic mental lapse, however, I now remember later throwing out that folder, forgetting about my Recovery Key. Ya, that is my fault, I'm and idiot. Anyways...
Fast forward to a few days ago, and I all of a sudden received messages on all my devices saying that my Apple ID had been disabled for security reasons, and that I had to reset the account in order to regain access to it. Scary, but no problem, right? Well, after entering my Apple ID into iForgot.com, the first thing it asked me for was my Recovery Key. This is around the time I was banging my head against the wall in realization that I had thrown it away, but I was relieved to see the "Lost your Recovery Key?" option at the bottom of the screen. I was even more relieved to discover that I had what I needed to reset it: my current password and a trusted Apple device. The catch was that to reset it, I needed to log into my Apple ID to initiate it, which of course I couldn't do because it had been disabled, and the only way for me to disable it is, again, to enter in my Recovery Key. This effectively put me in and endless loop, without any apparent way of gaining accesses to my account. I did contact Apple about it, and I was ultimately told that the lock on my account was so tight, that not even Apple could gain access to it.
I understand that this level of security is probably the whole reason for the two-step verification in the first place, and I again concede that it was extremely foolish of me for forgetting about and discarding my Recovery Key, but a few things still don't make sense...
    1. Why would they put a "Lost your Recovery Key?" link on the password recovery page when a password is needed to reset the Recovery Key itself?
    2. As far as I can remember, Apple, in their briefing of how two-step verification works, did not bring up this scenario, which is probably relatively common. They DO mention that they can't help when you don't have access to two of the three necessary things for recovery, but they never brought up the apparent exception of if the account is disabled, in which case having two of the three things needed is not enough. I don't understand how they couldn't have mentioned this scenario.
    3. Given the above thought, how could Apple not have some sort of special contingency for this type of situation? I profess my ignorance of how these types of systems are set up, but I would feel that there should be a special method for recovery in place if the account has been locked, and the owner is able to verify that they have the password and trusted devices.
I didn't mean to make it sound like a rant. I ADORE Apple, but this system seems like it's less than perfect.
Has anyone else ran into this issue? If so, is your situation similar to mine?
    Thanks for any response!

    Hey everyone.
It's been awhile, but I wanted to share with anyone who is interested some general knowledge about this issue that I have learned while communicating with Apple support. Unsurprisingly, the issue is still unresolved, and I am under the impression that it will remain that way, but I'm still trying to get in touch with one of the senior representatives I spoke with a while ago who seemed to think that there might be a solution, so I suppose there is still a chance that things could turn out for the better.
    Here's the rundown:
Anytime you are unable to sign in to or access your account because of "security reasons", your account is under what is called a "DS Lockout".
A DS Lockout on an Apple ID can be triggered for a few reasons, such as when too many failed logins to the Apple ID (using an incorrect password) are attempted, or when a purchase is made that Apple believes to be fraudulent.
Under normal circumstances, a DS Lockout only lasts for 8 hours, after which the lock is lifted and access to the account by inputting the correct password is re-enabled.
This is where the catch for anybody who set up two-step verification is.
According to one of Apple's security representatives, IF you have two-step verification enabled upon being inflicted with a DS Lockout, the 8-hour lockout period is extended indefinitely as an additional security measure (a feature, I suppose). Therefore, the only way to regain access to the account is by resetting the password, as waiting for the lockout to expire is no longer an option. And of course, resetting your password, as stated by Apple, is one of the situations in which you need your Recovery Key. EVEN IF YOU KNOW WHAT THE ACCOUNT'S CURRENT PASSWORD IS, the lockout prevents you from being able to input it as a means of authentication. You MUST reset your password in order to regain access, and you MUST input your recovery key in order to reset your password.
So, that seems to be the gist of it. It does make sense, but here's my problem:
Upon setting up two-step verification, Apple does warn you of many things, but they do not make any mention of this specific scenario. Indeed, it is very much my fault for loosing my verification key, but the thing is, I’m human, I make mistakes, and I know that I will continue to do so. One of the reasons I chose to take the risk of setting up two-step verification is because Apple explicitly stated that as long as I had access to two of the three required "keys" -- my Recovery Key, my password, and at least one of my trusted Apple devices -- I would always be able to gain access to my account. In other words, as long as I didn’t screw up so bad as to loose access to two of my keys, I’d be okay. Obviously, there is a huge exception to this case that, again, is not mentioned anywhere, hence all the confusion. Had I know that it was possible that it could come down to me needing a single, specific key to regain access to my account, I probably would have opted out of two-step verification, recognizing that as a busy college student who's constantly reorganizing and dealing with tons of forms, worksheets, and other various documents, it's not as easy to hold on to a slip of paper as it might be for others. I'm hoping that at some point, Apple adds a big, red warning to the setup process which reads something like:
"In the event that your Apple ID is locked due to a detected security risk, your Recovery key will be necessary to regaining access to your account; knowing your password and/or having access to any of your trusted devices will no longer be enough."
I really do appreciate how seriously Apple takes its security, but I think that there is still room for improvement. This should start with more clearly and fully stating the conditions of its security measures, as well as having its customer support be more educated on these conditions (they themselves stated that they had never been trained on issues revolving around two-step verification). Protecting someone's private information is important, but so too is making every possible effort to ensure that customers can't easily loose access to all the content and services that they have spent much time and money building up and using.
As stated above, I'm still trying to get a hold of the Apple representative who initially assisted me, so if I have any additional updates, I'll be sure to reply to this thread. I hope that anyone who is going through the same issue, or is simply curious, finds this information to be useful.

    Hi Siva,
This is not a question of bigger or smaller problem. This is a matter for providing information to someone how is not aware of Rule-Of-Engagement on SDN.
Secondly I think you have not seen the thread properly which is attached in this thread. Look it carefully because it was originally created by Matthias Kral but since it has been blocked therefore he is not able to find his original post in the same thread and it was answered by Christian Sy.

What's the point in creating a system where you can't see who has replied to the thread? Its absolutely F**CKING pointless? Does anyone at Adobe have any brains or are they all sitting with their heads up their backsides?

The line below is not that necessary in the order of priority, which for all intense and purposes is quite useless. I don't really care about how long ago something was posted or where it was posted but an indication to show 'updated' posts and by who is vital.
9 minutes ago in Dreamweaver support forum
Why do we even need 'Dreamweaver support forum'. We already know that's where we are! I guess a selection of posts from other forums may appear in a 'general' postings list somewhere, but who really cares - if I'm asking a question related to DW that's the forum I'm going to, not a general list as I don't care a monkey knackers what's been posted in Fireworks or InDesign or Illustrator. If I did I'd go to those forums.
If you are tracking several postings it is going to become hugely annoying for both the person who has asked the question and the people helping the original poster as many replies will potentially go unnoticed and not resolved.
And what's with the silly horizontal scroll bar being created for long lines of text? That's annoying too.
Plenty of teething issue you need to get your head around over the next few weeks.

  • I exited iMovie and lost my project.  I am able to find it in Finder, under the Movies tab, but can not get it back to a project in iMovie.  Is there a way to restore it?

Please help!  I exited iMovie and lost my project that I've been working on for days... I am able to find it in "Finder" under iMovie Projects... but I am unable to open it as a Project in iMovie.  I am using iMovie '11, with no time machine, and I'm on a MacBook Pro.

I fully sympathise with you, as I recently experienced the same issue (as have many others).
Projects always appear as normal in Finder in the Home folder Movies/iMovie Projects (or on an external disk at the top level in Movies/iMovie Projects). Nothing looks untoward there.
However, when iMovie is opened again after an editing session, the most recent project worked on does not appear in the listing of projects in iMovie's Project Library - although it is still listed in the Finder folder . This happens for no apparent reason - no unexpected quits, freezes, or crashes, and nothing else out of the ordinary. iMovie is simply not recognizing the project. It can't even be opened by double-clicking on the project in Finder.

    all,
This information (technote draft # 11716) is to clear up the confusion
    regarding
    database access.
Note, Forte reserves the right to change this implementation in the
    future.
Currently, there are two flavors of database access available with forte
    (as of version 30j1):
    1. single-threading access to all databases on all UNIX & VMS platforms
    2. multithreading access to all supported database except Sybase on
    intel/alpha-NT,
and to a certain extent, limited support with SQLServer (see more
    details below)
    1. single-threading access:
with this type of access, when the following code is executed
(SQL select ... on MyDBSession;), forte locks the partition and
all EXTERNAL requests will be queued. However, task switching inside
the partition continues until the called task enters the DBVendor's
API (as with any 3GL call). Prior to this moment, you can still have
multiple tasks running inside the partition. As the called task
enters the 3GL, it truly blocks a partition, ie. it's OUT there
talking to the database and not communicating with the
the forte's environment. If the query is long, the partition might not
    be
able to acknowledge the environment manager's ping, and thus, will be
deemed NOT reachable, and a new partition will be started (see technote
11147). Another problem arises when you have multiple INTERNAL tasks
trying to perform database access concurrently on the same DBSession.
Since the behavior is unpredictable, we RECOMMEND that you only
have ONE task at any time accessing the DBSession inside a partition.
Please see also technote 7104 for more information regarding DBSession
    sharing & blocking.
    2. multi-threading access:
on NT, we have added code to allow multithreading access to most
    supported
    database. What does this mean?
    a. when a task access the database, the partition will NOT be blocked.
    b. you can have multiple DBSessions inside a partition and allow
concurrent access; however, we still RECOMMEND that you
only have ONE task accessing a DBSession at any one time.
Please consult a Forte consultant or a TSR in reference to technote
11151 (only available internally). Please do NOT call Forte Technical
    Support for this technote.
As to SQLServer, the ODBC driver that you use to access the database
    will
determine if it's is reentrant or not. There is also a known problem
    with
the Microsoft ODBC driver which causes the cursor state to become
    invalid when
multiple tasks accessing the same session. Due to these problems, forte
recommends that you single-threading access to SQLServer; otherwise
    use at YOUR OWN RISK.
Hope this helps. IF you have questions regarding multithreading access
    support
in the future, please contact a Forte Sales Rep or TSR.

Though, the DBSession partitions can reside on a
    thread-safe
OS ( like NT ), the DBSession is still single threaded
    and your
partition gets blocked for the duration of the DB
    access. Same
is true, even if you have multi-threaded databases.
Forte has not changed DBSession to make it
    multi-threaded.
Infact, given the current implementation, the only way
    to simulate
concurrent database access is to replicate the
    partition which
has DBSession object. The famous DBEntityManagerPattern

    Kamran,
That's not entirely correct. Partitions which access
    multi-threaded
databases (like MS SQL Server on NT) do not block.
    There was some
discussion about this over the User Group a while back
    - with no real
conclusion, so perhaps Forte might want to step in and
    clarify.
What I'm curious about is the outcome in a situation
    where one DB
Session accesses SQL Server and another one talks to a
    non
multi-threaded database within the same partition.

    Peter,
If one of the service object is being used the that
    partition gets
blocked until it has finished the request to the
    dbsession. It will not
mater if the service objects are connected to different
    database. Using
    a
dbsession makes the partition single threaded and
    that's why we use load
balancing. Please look at tech. note 10647 for more

Does a DBSession executing in a partition cause thatpartition to
    become
    single-threaded?
Suppose a partition has 2 Service Objects.
Each Service Object has its own unique DBSession.
While a method in one Service Object is using itsDBSession,
do all other threads in that partition halt and thenresume
when the work with the first DBSession is complete.
What if the two DBSessions are connected to differentdatabases,
    does this change anything?
I heard rumours that Oracle on NT supportedmulti-tasking and blocking
would not occur. If blocking does occur, is it aForte or Oracle
    limitation?
    Any input/comments appreciated.

    Kamran,
That's not entirely correct.
    Thanks.

    Peter,
If one of the service object is being used the that
    partition gets
blocked until it has finished the request to the
    dbsession. It will not
mater if the service objects are connected to different
    database. Using
    a
dbsession makes the partition single threaded and
    that's why we use load
balancing. Please look at tech. note 10647 for more
    info.

    Subject: DBSessions and Single-threading
Does a DBSession executing in a partition cause thatpartition to
    become
    single-threaded?
Suppose a partition has 2 Service Objects.
Each Service Object has its own unique DBSession.
While a method in one Service Object is using itsDBSession,
do all other threads in that partition halt and thenresume
when the work with the first DBSession is complete.
What if the two DBSessions are connected to differentdatabases,
    does this change anything?
I heard rumours that Oracle on NT supportedmulti-tasking and blocking
would not occur. If blocking does occur, is it aForte or Oracle
    limitation?
    Any input/comments appreciated.
    thanks,
    Peter

  • Work-around for lack of cut and paste for files in finder

I am new to Mac and have observed some past but closed discussions about the annoying lack of cut and paste in Finder. I too find it very time-consuming to move a file into the folder where I want it to live - especially from downloads. Using a MacBook Pro 13", my open windows are naturally on top of each other and using drag and drop with a touch-pad for file organisation is very cumbersome. Four finger behaviour on touch pad only helps so far.
The approach I adopt is to use cmd c to copy the files or folders in question. cmd ` to flick between finder windows (usually more than one is open) and cmd v to place the files or folders where I want them after navigating through to the destination folder. Shift cmd N gives me a new folder if required. cmd ` takes me back to source folder (usually downloads) so I can cmd delete the files and keep things tidy. This is lengthy to write down. It is however reasonably quick if your fingers know the keyboard shortcuts.
Is there a more efficient way for me to work around this inhibitory feature of Finder? "Save as" is only good if you know you have a folder in your file structure already created and named and suitable to receive the file you want to file away (usually an attachment to an email).

This is in reply to your last paragraph...
This is the Mac OS default Save As... dialog:
Notice that there is a downward pointing disclosure triangle to the right of the Save As: field. If you click on the disclosure triangle, a full Finder window will be exposed, and this will enable you to place downloaded files wherever you like.
Notice, also, that in the bottom left hand corner of the exposed finder window, you are able to create a new folder (in any location on your system) to which you are able to download files.
This works the same way in any Save As situation, using any app, and the app you are in will remember where you last chose to save a file so that repetitive navigation in these dialog boxes is somewhat reduced.

My dell got a major virus and crashed and lost everything, got new dell inspiron and downloaded Itunes will read i pod but wonr sync music do i have to reset ipod?

You can only deauthorize computers you still have physical access to.  If you have reached the limit of 5 authorizations and need to authorize yet another machine you can always use the deauthorize all option described in this Apple support document.  This procedure can only be performed once a year.

  • Reinstalled windows and lost all playlists

    Hi,
I reinstalled Windows after a virus and all my files were recovered from my backup system just fine. However, when I went to the Apple Store it didn't recognize my computer. I had to log in several times. I purchased some new music, synced my ipod nano and then when I went to my music library all the music was gone except for the newly purchased songs. Same goes for the ipod.
    I panicked.
I was able to recover all the old songs but lost all my playlists.
I am not sure if I can recover the playlists. Is that part of the old Library file? What will happen to my new music if I import the old library?
    Thanks,
    S
