Lack of restriction on Matching Mode Pane

Hi,
is there any standard (or non-standard) functionality to restrict the different Tabs in the Matching Mode Pane in the MDM Data Manager?
I couldn't find any functionality in the MDM Console to restrict that pane.
e.g even a user with only read rights to all tables and no execution rights is able to delete and change matching strategies. This is very delicate information. So how can you forbid this for certain users?

Hi,
   Transformations is a first step that we need to do in matching and merging process in MDM data
   manager to eliminate the duplicates.
Generally the same data in different remote systems will be maintained differently according to their
naming conventions, but it does n't allow us to do deduplication in data manager.
We need to normalize the data in specific format so that we can go for deduplication on a specific field.
   To create transformation ,
   Select transformations tab in data manager
   Give name for transformation.
   Select the field on which you want to apply transformation.
   Create the substitutions .In substitutions we have From means original data and To means destination
   data and Token means whether source data has to be converted in token wise or not.
   After that create rule and include transformation there.

Data Manager: Transformations( Matching Mode)

Hi All,
In Matching mode of data manager, I set some transformation. In preview field of transformation tab, data is changing as per in substitution.
But after merging it is not reflecting into the data( what I set in substitution, is not reflecting into the data).
What I have to do for this? Any other settings?

You could use assignments in this case and build it accordingly :
in the DM ->assignments tab -> add an assignment -> give a it a name -> and in the assignment field tab click the ... that appears , this opens the assignemtn builder now use the functions provide and create this assignment
IF(IS_NOT_NULL(field name where INDIA is to be placed ),INDIA)
close the expression builder & in the table field row maintain the field name where you want the INDIA value to be placed.
In the record mode choose a record where this is to be replaced right click ,run the assignment -you get a success or failure message ,now if this is what you require then select all the records where you want this update & proceed.

Data manager - Matching mode

Hi,
I am using MDM 5.5. and in Vendor deduplication I have created the rules and startegies. And in the matching mode the system gave me the list of HIGH possible duplicates. Is there a way that i can pull the data our from the data manager and send it to the user to confirm that this is the duplicate vendors.

You can use APIs for this purpose.
Other, workaround is that you can use MDM Workflow. As i don't have MS Visio installed but think it should work.
See in workflow when your Merge step comes, you will come to know the scores and hence therefore can send these duplicate vendor records out of MDM.
I think for this there should be two WORKFLOW1: START>MATCH>STOP
WORKFLOW2: START->SYNDICATE-->STOP
During WORKFLOW1 MATCH STEP when a use Execute this step, he will come to know Duplicate records by SCORE and COLOR, SAY DURING MATCH STEP you have 10 records out of 40 which are duplicates, now you will select these all 10 duplicate records right click >Choose Workflow>Split records into a new JOB(WORKFLOW2).
So all these duplicate records will syndicate out of MDM as WORKFLOW2 contains SYNDICATE STEP.
Also after sending only duplicate records, you can complete WORKFLOW1 by sending it to next step STOP.
I don't have work-flow(MS-VISIO) installed, so cant test it at my end.
Just Check it and revert with Result if it helps, i think it should work else you can use APIs

Matching Mode

Hi All,
When i work in matching mode, i am getting false results some times,False results might be due to
success,failure scores and High and low thresold scores what i gave in matching strategy.
Is there any rule to define sucess scores,High and low thersold scores?

Hi Narendra,
                    Matching is the most important phase when we are trying to remove the duplication among our data.
Some Important Terms and there Functions related to Matching and Merging Mode:
1. Normalization: When we remove the Special Characters as well as the Short forms from our data we say that the data is Normalized and this is used in Transformation technique.
2. Token: When we have to reduce the short forms they are known as Tokens.
3. Score : Score actually helps us to define the Result in the following ways:
u2022 Success :   If we find the duplicate fields it shows Success
u2022 Failure : If we do not get any Duplicate field we say it is a Failure
u2022 Undefined : If any of the field contains Null Value we say that it is undefined.
There are two types of Scores also:
u2022 Maximum Score
u2022 Minimum Score
Maximum Score and Minimum Score: The read-only Min Score and Max Score properties are calculated automatically by MDM based on the Success scores of ever matching rule included in the strategy, and allow you to set the values of Low Threshold and High Threshold properties to classify the results.
4.Difference between Equals and Token Equals:
u2022 Equals : Exactly matches the data
u2022 Token Equals: Fuzzy Matches are also considered.
5.Threshold: There are two categories of Threshold:
u2022 High: Records whose total score is greater than or equal to the High threshold score are included in the list of potential matches in the Matches tab and placed in the High match level.
u2022 Low: Records whose total score is greater than or equal to the Low Threshold score are included in the list of potential matches in the Matches tab and placed in the Low match level.

Restricting a matching rule to user

Hi All,
In my project there are multiple strategies defined depending upon the country and region.I wanted to know if we can restrict the user to use a particular strategy only because i m using named searches concept to allow a user to operate on records to particular country or region only.
I had mainly 2 questions
1. Is there any provision in MDM so that we can restrict the user to particular strategy only
2. Or is there any method in MDM so that the matching rule like Selected vs All or All vs All can be greyed out so that i want to force user ro use matching rule Selected vs Result or Result vs result only.This is mainly mine concern because if user by mistake selects the Selected vs All MDM performance may go down because we have recoreds upto 650000.

Hi,
Try creating MDM Roles and granting access to only your Named Search. Assign this role to the respective user and test your scenario whether it works or not.

Restrictions in change mode

Hello experts!
I have to modify an Z report. When I switch to change mode, appears the text in gray, and the edit, replace insert buttons, the same buttons when you try to edit an standard program.
But in program atributes, the editor lock is uncheched !!! This is amazing. This program is a copy of an standard program.
Pls help me to edit this program in the ordinary way, because I need to do a lot changes.

How to restrict the alternate modes in PP/DS???

Hi all,
I have 2 levels of production, 1st is semifinished and 2nd is finished (which uses the 1st as an input)
I want to relate the activities of these 2 orders such that for example,
if 1st order is from resource A, then 2nd order can be restricted.
can I use a transportation matrix from these resources or activities but they are not in the same order, they are predecessor and successor orders.

Search tabs in Matching Mode

Hi All ,
Reference guide of MDM data manager page 484 says
There is also a search tab corresponding to the [Level]
column and free-form search parameters corresponding to the [Count]
and [Score] columns, which allow you to filter based on which records
have matches that may require merging.
Has any one tried this how these search tabs are enabled ?

I had also tried the same thing but didnt get any search tab for level and free form search for score and count. I think they might have mised out this feature and there are no special or extra configuration is required.

Can airplane mode be restricted with a separate passcode ?

Can Airplane Mode be restricted with a separate passcode. I understand that thieves will snatch your phone during use and put them into airplane mode, thus disabling any GPS programs designed to find them. By adding an additional restriction to airplane mode, it should reduce "snatch and grabs"

If there is not an option for airplane mode under settings>general>restrictions it is not currently a function available on the iPhone. Your best bet would be to set a passcode on your lock screen by going into settings>general>passcode lock to set one. This would be a great feature to add and you can go to apple.com/feedback to suggest it. I have already.

Mysterious Opening of Applicaitons in Limited User Mode

I manage a computer lab at a university. We have recently purchased a 17 inch iMac (late 2006 model, 2.0 GHz)
I limited the student's mode so that they can only access "Appearance, Dashboard & Expose, Desktop & Screen Saver, Dock, International, Security, Keyboard & Mouse, Print & Fax, Sound, .Mac, and Universal Access" in the control panel. I used the administrator's "Account" to give this limit.
I don't know what students did, but on some iMacs, when you boot up the iMacs, some applications launch by themselves. On some iMacs, it's MSWord, in some, it's Safari and MSWord. in some, it's Firefox, and Safari. etc.
I checked the administrator's Login Items. Only iTunesHelper is set to automatically launch. Students' shouldn't be able to access here anyhow
I also checked /Library/LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons (administrator's account) just in case something is there, but these are empty.
I cannot figure out how those applications are set to launch themselves when you login to the student's (limited access) mode.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Assuming that you aren't attempting to restrict application use, it is likely that the students are using the "Open at Login" contextual menu item in the "Dock".
The "Parental Controls" in "OS X Client" that limit access to preference panes only restrict access to the panes themselves, not necessarily to the user settings which they configure. A restricted user with access to alternative methods to modify the configuration files, either via GUI or by directly editing the file, can change things at will.
One thing that might help is to configure "Login Items" using "Workgroup Manager.app", which is included with the "Server Admin Tools" which can be downloaded (free) from Apple. It can be used to configure "Login Items" on a stand-alone "OS X Client" Mac, such that control is exerted from 'mcx_settings' instead of the user's own plist files, which should block the effects of the "Dock" contextual menu.

Colour Profile Bug in CS4 32 bpc Mode?

This has been confirmed on both Mac and PC by different users
(this topic was confirmed on another list before posting here).
One may be working on an image that has a different colour profile
than set as default in colour settings. For example, colour settings
has Adobe RGB while the current document is in ProPhoto RGB. If the
ProPhoto RGB (16 bpc) file is taken to 32 bpc mode, the status message
reports that the file is in a modified linear space based on the input
profile. One may then perform USM, for example and then return to 16
bpc or 8 bpc mode.
Here is the bug: Once the ProPhoto RGB file is returned to 16 or 8
bpc, it now has the working RGB space tagged of Adobe RGB, rather than
the original ProPhoto RGB as input before 32 bpc conversion. This is
not just a tagging issue, the numbers have been converted to working
RGB rather than the input ICC that was tagged to the image prior to
entering 32 bpc mode.
ICC tagged image operations have been divorced from colour settings
since version 6, the document can reside in a space that is
independent of colour settings. I can't recall other operations that
change the files colour space and tag without user intention.
If using 32 bpc edits, to preserve the input space, one either has to
change their colour settings to match the document or convert the
document to working RGB.
So why this reversion to working RGB and not the document RGB - bug or
design feature/limitation? Did CS3 work this way, is it only my
version of CS4?
I have searched the help notes, this forum and other Adobe support docs,
however I could not find this issue documented.

Can anyone post a supporting argument for the current behaviour (design or bug). While in 32 bpc Photoshop "knows" what the original profile is (it is listed as being in a linear state), while on default conversion to lower bit depth the data is converted to working RGB, rather than the document RGB prior to conversion (if different to working RGB). Am I missing something - is this a good thing, should this be behaviour be changed?
OK, topic drift it is!
Buko/progress, it is not so much bit depth in this case, it is gamma encoding - or lack thereof. 32 bpc mode processes in linear gamma, which can have an effect on some operations for certain receptive image content (tonal moves, USM, interpolation etc).

I prefer the 32 bpc route to linear processing rather than the alternative, which is 16 bpc and a hacked custom RGB profile set to gamma 1.0.
I don't like linear USM for output sharpening (nasty dark halo artifacts). However, for subtle capture/acquisition sharpening linear USM may be preferred for certain images. I generally sharpen with blend if sliders limiting the intensity of the light halo, which comes close to one aspect of linear sharpening (light halo reduction). This can also be achieved by blending the USM in two separate layers, set to darken and lighten blending with reduced opacity.
While on USM and gamma, there are some L* based RGB working spaces such as L*RGB or the new ECI RGB which behave the same way as Lab mode Lightness channel sharpening (when set to Luminosity blend). As the response of the Lightness channel is different to linear gamma and standard gamma encoded spaces, for some image content one may be preferred over the other as the processing space.
I would still like to explore the original topic/post before submitting a bug report. How do you think things should work?

Executing Matching Strategies

Hi.
Im learning the matching mode in datamanager and trying to execute a matching strategy.
1. I have created a transformation to convert X value to Y of description.
2. I have created a rule based on my transformation.
3. I created a strategy and assigned the rule to it.
Now while trying to execute the strategy from the menu Records->Matching->Execute-> I find many options in it.
I couldn' get what are all those options.
Selected vs. Selected
Selected vs. Results
Selected vs. All
Results vs. Results
Results vs. All
All vs. All
Can anyone explain me with an example?

How is Transformation and Rules effectively used in this case?
See it depends on your requirement, you can use Rules without use of transformation.
Without Transformation:
e.g. if you are finding duplicates for Material No, you can select property Fields = Material No directly while defining Rule and then include this rule into your Strategy which will find duplicates if there are two records with same Material No. Since Material No is usually Integer as such i think we don't need Transformation here.
With Transformation:
e.g. if you are finding duplicates for Company Description, you will need here Transformation if required.
I mean if in my Repository there are Company Description for 1 record is ABC Pvt. Ltd. , for 2nd record it is ABC Private Limited and for 3rd record say it is ABC Pvt. Limited. If i don't make use of transformation and make use of Rule only where i define Fields = Company Description and then include this Rule into Strategy. So when i execute Strategy these 3 records will not considered as duplicates but considered as unique records which is not correct.
So in order to recognize that these three records are duplicates but not unique records we have to make use of Transformation where i create a transformation say XYZ and in Substitutions pane will write:
From To
ABC Pvt. Ltd ABC Private Limited
ABC Private Limited ABC Private Limited
ABC Pvt. Limited ABC Private Limited
which means for all these three records Company Description are same. Then while defining Rule select this transformation as Fields = XYZ and then include rule into Strategy. So on execution Strategy i will come to know that these 3 records are nothing but are duplicates.

Itunes Match: Two users on one computer.

My wife and I share one computer. We switch between users. I set up my itunes match under my user name, then I swtiched to her user and
tried to set up ITM. no go I get this message

You can only associate each computer (not account on the computer) to one apple id. This is a restriction of match and automatic downloads from iTunes. See the iTunes terms and conditions and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627.
I haven't tested it yet but I think if you have two user accounts on a machine and each has a different apple id, one of the accounts will have to login to match with the Apple ID that was authorized on the machine. I think if they do that, the user's iTunes library will be matched and combined with the library of the other user''s appleid only up in the cloud. You may or may not want that behavior. Also, I think if the user switches back to their AppleID, as long as they kept copies of their music locally that music though also in the cloud would still be accessible since it is on the disk. But anything showing with the cloud download icon (ie: stored only in the cloud) would disappear from the library until they login to match again since that music is not on the disk. The relogin to match will go thru steps 1..3 but much faster on each relogin and all music in match would show up again. I think the user can go purchase music on their id, login to match on the match id, and iTunes will auto match those purchases since they are added to the physical library.
Note, this is speculation on my part based on the fact that I was able to logout of my match ID and login to another ID to updated some aps from the app store. What happened was all my cloud music disappeared, local music stayed that was also present on the disk ws still there. I downloaded some apps, logged out, and logged back in with my iTunes match apple id and everything came back.
I would caution not to do this on an iOS device. On there, if the music is not in the cloud library when logging in and out of match across id's, it may be deleted. Also, the relogin on the iOS device, for me at least with 13,000+ songs, takes 20 minutes on an iPhone 4S.

ITunes Match on a NAS?

How do fellow Apple'ers,
Quick spec on what's being used at the minute:
-rMBP
-iPad Mini
-iPhone 4S
-Time Capsule
-ATV (don't know what gen you call it - the new one..)
-iTunes Match
Prospectively looking to add:
-A NAS
-Mac Pro on release (for no other reason than it will complete my life..)
So, what I'm looking to do;
-Have a NAS set as the main and only iTunes library (most likely set up as a 3rd party iTunes Server)
-Have iTunes Match see this iTunes Library (on the NAS), and upload for all devices to use in iTunes Match mode (including the rMBP)
Most other threads I've found basically say "point your rMBP to the NAS for the iTunes Server and it'll work" - which isn't what I want. I've had a play with this, but then the rMBP is seen as the 'host' for iTunes Match - therefore can't stream/cache songs - ie, when out of internet range, it can't connect to the NAS so hasn't any music cached on it.
Hope this makes sense to someone, and they can advise?

Presumably the Mac Pro will be resident on the network alongside the NAS?
iTunes Match requires a computer based iTunes library to act as the conduit to the Cloud.
The NAS is effectively a 'local Cloud', however it is unlikely that the NAS can host iTunes.
So the options are:
1. Use the Mac Pro iTunes library and the main conduit to the Cloud - periodically manually backup to the NAS, so the NAS can provide a local iTunes service; or
2. Configure the Mac Pro to always use NAS as the location of its iTunes library - a neat solution provided the NAS is always on.
In both options, once iTunes Match has completed its 'matching' / 'upload' the iDevices and rMBP can use Match as there source. A NAS with decent RAID configuration makes a superb local backup option.
