I have an iPhone 4s with ios 5.1.1 and I wanted to upgrade to ios6. I need 2.5GB of space for the upgrade but only have 1.8GB space left. My music takes up 6.2GB of space. Can I somehow deal with the music file to create space for an upgrade? Is that where iCloud comes in? Any suggestions?

Your music should all be on your computer because that is how you do it with music - sync it from the master collection on your computer. Then you just need to temporarily delete sufficient files to create enough free space for the upgrade. After the upgrade sync your computer again to restore the files.

The storage space in iCloud has nothing to do with the storage space available inside the iPhone.
If Csound's suggestion still fails to find enough space in the phone, you will have to delete some stuff to make room (videos and photos take the most space).

Insufficient space on C-drive for iOS 5 Upgrade

Hello dear community,
i acutally want to upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.0.1 using a Windows XP Computer.
This is currently not possible because there is insufficient space on my C-drive to backup my iPhone data (15 GByte needed - 5GByte available).
I'm unable to delete any more files on C.
Is there any solution to write this backup to another harddrive.

Buy new hard drive.
250GB for ~$50 at CompUSA last week.
DVDs are between 4.5 & 9 GB each.
If you don't have enough space for one DVD, you have too little.
Generally, you should have at least 10-15% free space for the OS to work at it's best. If you have a 100GB hard drive, you should have 10-15GB free.

Not enough disk space for backup to upgrade to iOS5

May I know why do we have to backup again in order to update iOS5? I thought our iPhone usually backup automatically so we don't need to do so. Reason why I'm asking is because my local drive doesn't have enough disk space for my phone backup in order to install iOS5. I'm not sure if I could still get back my stuff - especially my apps, after the upgrade. Any advice please?

i was running windows 8.1 however managed to upgrade by using a 16gb jsb drive, which the upgrade used to put the old version of windows.everything working fine on windows 10. Thank you for the assistance.

Not enough free storage space for ios update

My wife's iPad Air MD786LL/A with 32GB. Running iOS 8.0.2. I bought it for her last year for her birthday to replace her old iPad. She won't give up the old iPad. I keep her iPad Air up to date from time-to-time but when I tried to update the iOS, it said there was not enough free storage space (requires 2.4GB and the iPad Air only has 1.8GB). She also has a MacBook Air running Yosemite and an iPhone 4S on iOS 8.2. The old iPad runs iOS 7 and won't do the multi-device sync with MBA and iPhone (which is why I was trying move her to the more modern iOS). I need to free up some space on iPad Air.

Apps: 50
I note that Settings>General>About does not list Books in the list of things on the iPad Air. Why is this?
Everything syncs to iCloud.
Q: can I delete photos on the iPad Air without removing them from her MacBook Air or iPhone?
I note that the iCloud Photos is still Beta. When I went to turn that on, it said that the 7,695 photos would be removed from the other devices. I did not proceed.
Q: How does one move a book back to the cloud after it has been read? This should free up space.

Not enough space for iOS 7 update

I did my update yesterday just fine and it worked but when I went to help my sister with her update it isn't working. It says that she has 5.5 GB used and only 825 MB available. She has deleted apps, pictures, and videos and now all that is left listed is "Photos & Camera 111 MB" and "Safari 1.2 MB." We have no idea how to make any more space since all that is left on the phone is the original iPhone apps that you are unable to delete. Any ideas on what we could do to make space to complete the update? All advice is welcomed! Thank you.

I actually have 2.5 Gb more free space on my 32Gb iPhone 4 after the iOS5 upgrade. Is this possible?

I am also lost. I upgraded itunes and ios5 on my iPhone4. Now I have a gray slate screen on my IP4 that just says iPhone, and I am being asked to configure my device. I cannot receive phone calls. They go directly to voice mail, and I cannot make phone calls. I have tried "everything". Even with it "looking like" a backup/restore may be in process, it does not backup or restore. It's talking about iTunes. The program that runs on your computer. Not iOS, the operating system on your phone.
On your computer, go to http://www.apple.com/itunes
Download and install version 10.7. It is required to sync with iOS 6.

Not enough space for iOS 7.1 update

I can't update my iphone because I need 1.9GB of space which, apparently, I don't have.
According to the usage figures there is actually 3.4GB available.
What have I missed?

Problem solved by doing the update via iTunes.
This doesn't work via WiFi, the iPhone needs to be connected via the cable to the Computer.
When iTunes is started it will request the update and just follow the instructions.

It says on my ipod that i don't have enough space for IOS 6 or anything else.

When you connect the iPod to your computer and click on the iPod under devices what is the amount of storage used in the various categories as shown in the colored bargraph?
If the "other" category is greater that about 1.5 GB that typically indicated that it included corrupted files. That sometimes happens after an update.
To reduce the "other" try restoring from backup.

IPad Mini IOS 8 upgrade issue

Last Night i connected my IPad mini to my PC to sync it with ITune. I got message for IOS 8 upgrade. So i decided to Upgrade it to IOS 8. And i selected "Download and Update" option on ITune. I got the IOS 8 downloaded but while installing it, it deleted the previous IOS 7 and then gave a error message. Then I found that my IPad lost the OS.
Now I am trying to Restore my IPad to factory setting via ITune, But its failing.
Don't know what to do.
Can any one gave me any suggestion to resolve it ??

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.

This happened to me too but it was really all there. Go to your calendar, click on calendar in the upper left hand corner, click on show all calendars, click done in the right upper corner. Everything should show up!!!

Not enough space on PC for media backup for ios 5.0 upgrade. Can it be config to use external 1T drive, rather than C: drive?

We have iPhone 4 and 3GS, iTouch and Nano.
The PC has about 3GB on the C: drive available, and I have an external USB connected 1T drive which is just about empty.
Can backup / sync functions be changed to use the external drive?
i-device backups and media files have taken over much of my C: drive space.
The iTouch upgrade to ios 5 is stopped because the media would be lost due to insufficient C: drive space. (Requires 3.5GB)
