Lack of support for rosetta in Lion

with the lack of support in Lion for Rosetta (so the rumours go) how am I fixed with my epson 2400 scanner an HP 5552 printer?

You should look at the current drivers available for both devices, if they're supported in Snow Leopard upgrading to Lion should probably will not affect them however we won't know for sure until Lion is released. You can find the devices currently supported at:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
BTW I don't think Rosetta has anything to do with drivers for scanners and printers. If you are using Epson and HP software that was written for PPC based computers then you may have a valid concern. You can always voice your concern at www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Lack of support for Canon G7 and G9. Alternatives?

I am really disappointed about the lack of support for the Canon G9, and looking at the list of compatible cameras (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306835) I notice that Canon G7 - even if it does not have a RAW format, is not supported either.
I am thinking that the purchase of the G9 may have been premature and that I may need to sell it and get another cam that is supported by Apple/Aperture.
What would you guys do? Is there a cam out there similar to the G9 at the moment that has a Apple-supported RAW format?
    Best regards,
    Kjell Are Refsvik

I think the camera closest to the G9 that has RAW support from Apple are the Panasonic DMC-LX2/Leica D-Lux 3 twins. Don't know where you are, but in the US, the Panasonic costs about $400. 10MP, 28-112mm (35mm equivalent) Leica lens, very compact body, and RAW output. The Leica costs $599, and has that classic look.
I don't know much about that cameras, but you may want to investigate.

  • DirectTV lack of support for Apple TV channels

Is there a common site to file a complaint with DirectTV over the lack of support for AppleTV channels?  Or do I have to go to each channels site?
    Thanks for any help!
    Regards,
    -Brian

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV 1 is very much different than the later Apple TV is. For a start it doesn't support homesharing or airplay. It doesn't have many features of the later Apple TV is such as iTunes march, MLB, WSJ, photo stream and others. Additionally, it does not support re-downloading of TV shows and movies (US only).
It's also plays lower resolution video only.

  • Can Apple comment on their lack of support for burning CD-TEXT?

Can Apple comment on their lack of support for burning CD-TEXT?
I've been getting the runaround from the support people. They said to resolve my issue check out the following kb articles. The articles were aimed at giving me more information about ID3 tags and formats that I care about. I just want my burnt cd's to work in my CD-TEXT capable cd player.
I've done this using alternate software packages so I know my hardware supports it. I'm really looking for a complete solution for myself (techie) and my wife (non-Techie) to use and make us both happy. I have to admit, this really bothers me.
I know I'm not the only person asking about this. Please add the support for CD-TEXT to I-Tunes.
    Thanks

Apple people don't comment here, it's a user to user forum.
But you've got me interested. CD-TEXT, what is it? Should I just look it up in wikipedia or do you have a better explanation of what it is you're after?

  • Continued Support for OS X Lion...

After Mountain Lion comes out will Apple keep on providing support got Lion in the coming years like Microsoft does? I find it highly unlikely what with the yearly release schedule from now on... I'm fairly new to the Mac ecosystem btw.

Apple supports immediately previous releases through two generations. Hence, after the release of Mountain Lion Apple will continue regular support for it, Lion, and Snow Leopard. Security updates only would be provided for Leopard.

  • Lack of support for the Android Tablet Forum

It seems there is a lack of Lenovo involvement in the Android Tablet forum.  I'm posting here in order to point this out as someone with Lenovo really needs to follow up on the issues there. Many of us are waiting on the Lollipop update for our tablets and the roadmap states that an update was released, yet no consumers have it.  It even went so far that a Lenovo employee told people that their Lollipop update would be released country by country starting that day, and almost a month later, no one on the forum has it (possibly no one worldwide). This lack of support will drive some customers away.  We don't ask for much, just keep us up to date and let us know that our issues are not ignored.  Right now, we feel ignored. The hardware of the tablets are very nice and extremely capable, we just need some guidance and answers.

Lenovo just doesn't care. All they want is a quick sell with absolutly NO SUPPORT !!.They may well sell good hardware but it is all useless without some support. Are all companys this bad?

  • Open letter to Crative Labs regarding lack of support for soft subtit

    Dear Creative Labs
I'm a proud owner of a Creative Zen Vision W. In this day and age you either have to be a millionaire or truly love videos to buy one; I belong to the secound group.
We need support for soft subtitles in Creative Zen Vision, Vision W, Vision:M and so forth. Simply put. It can be done with 0 lines of code in the firmware source, and you know it. Everyone are sick and tired of trying to find workarounds.
We are videolovers; We are not audiophiles who needs an alternati've to iPod that happens to play footage of our kids practicing soccer and show pictures of our fishing tri
    ps.
Treat us with some respect. People have been begging for soft subs support since the Vision was released in 2005, and you haven't done **bleep**.
I tried to write a "down to earth" letter here, but you're truly pissing me off.

  • Colors Lack of Support for Nvidia!

I switched to Mac for the sole purpose of using "Final Touch"..shortly after it was purchased and is now Color. I bought the new studio package and loaded it all on my Workstation. Low and behold...no support for Firewire out!!...so I will have to buy an AJA earlier then planned...and I can only get 8 bit color renderning depth in settings regardless of footage quality, bit depth, resolution, or codec. My system is a Dual Quad Core 3GHZ so 8 CPUS "Octo Mac" with 9GB of RAM and 2 TB RAID storage with a Nvidia Quadro 4500! It's rather frustrating that the highest end system apple can make is crippled in Color and I have to get a lesser system (ATI card) to make it run optimally. Any answers? I purchased the Quadro because I work in Maya...but now I think I will have to save the $1400 difference and get the ATI card so I can work in a higher bit depth , and afford to purchase a High end AJA card for output. Any ideas or answers?

    Hello,
i posted another thread about the limitation of 8bit color depth and no realtime playback and found out that it was the same problem. We had a nvidia card installed. I just installed the app on a 8core intel with ati x1900 and it works impressivley well. Perfect playback and performance. We are putting primary, 3 secondaries with super soft gradients and a pan and scan plus output correction and the systems delivers still 22fps in 2k dpx sequences. Quite amazing. But yes, nvidia gave us 8fps with an uncorrected image.
Get the x1900 it will make you happy.

  • Netflix and lack of support for iPhone

Is it just me? I've been trying to stream a movie via netflix on the iPhone 4, however, every time it starts saying Loading Movie... it sort of "crashes" back to the video selection screen. Of course my first thought is to search every support and search engine known to man but that yielded no results. Netflix has no support for the iPhone app on their website at all, why release something when there's no support, isn't that called a beta? Please help if anybody has experienced this problem. Thank you in advance.

I have the same exact problem on my iPod Touch 3rd gen 32GB. On my iPhone 3GS however on the same wifi network everything works fine.
When the iPod Touch first boots up I get the Alert: "Cannot reach netflix.com. Please try again later." (subsequent times, this error is not shown, but the movies still do not play) Pressing ok continues to launch Netflix and shows movie "Like"s and selecting Instant Queue menu has no problem showing my own Instant Queue. The problem occurs when you attempt to Play a movie. Pressing Play results in a message "loading...", then for a brief second the Netflix landscape red screen appears and returns back to where I pressed the Play button.
Tried updating to 4.1 and tried reinstalling Netflix without any luck.

  • Lack of support for rented movies

Last night I rented a movie from the AppleTV. It appeared to download okay. But when I tried to play it, all I got was a white screen.
I immediately tried to call Apple support. After a few minutes with the voice response system, it told me they were closed – call tomorrow. Why didn’t the voice response system say that at the beginning?
I called early next morning (6:30am PDT). After navigating through the voice response system, I got a technician who asked for my AppleTV serial number and verified that I had an AppleCare agreement. After about 20 min of research, he told me to unplug the AppleTV, wait 30 sec., then plug it back in and see if that fixes the problem. Well, it did – I could view the movie. He told me the problem is due to the way the firmware handles an HDMI connection – but only with rented movies. What??? The technician then said “good, we fixed the problem you’re good to go.”
I said not so fast – and asked how Apple was going to compensate me for going through the motions of downloading a rented movie, trying to troubleshoot and calling in (only to be told I was SOL), spending 45 min the next morning, and never being able to see the movie due to an Apple hardware problem. The technician put me on the phone with his “supervisor” - again a 5 min wait on hold.
The supervisor asked what was the problem – since I still had 12 more hours to watch the movie (we were talking at 6:30am). Then she had the audacity to say there wasn’t a “technical problem” since un-plugging the AppleTV reset it and I could now see the movie. I told her that I wanted to watch the movie last night and there most certainly was a technical problem at that time - i.e., white screen. She reluctantly said that she would “try” to get me a refund for the movie.
I then asked her how was I suppose to get support in real-time for AppleTV download issues? She again reiterated that their hours are 6-6 and they don’t accept support calls after 6pm PDT. She asked why I didn’t go on-line and seek help on the Apple Web site. Excuse me? I was sitting down to dinner with my family who wanted to watch the rented movie. Going off to a computer to research an Apple hardware problem wouldn’t have been politically correct under the circumstances.
I also told her that the technician wouldn’t talk to me without evidence of a AppleCare support agreement on the AppleTV. Hey, a rented movie wouldn’t play. Why do I need an Apple support agreement to merely get what I paid for? I asked, what if I had just purchased the AppleTV, how would I solve this sort of problem? She said that I could have paid a one time $49 support charge to get someone to tell me to unplug the AppleTV. Mind you, that’s a $49 charge to see a $4.99 movie due to a known problem with Apple’s firmware. Unbelievable!
Given the frustration of not getting the movie to play (at dinner time), no realistic support to fix the problem, and the baffling conversation with Apple’s insensitive support manager - all I was offered is someone will “try” to get me a refund.
Okay, this won’t happen to me again. Because I won’t be renting or downloading movies from Apple’s service. Sorry I bought the AppleTV - wonder if I can get a refund for it?

I agree the OP could not have known to restart the device but I do rather think their expectations after receiving help were unrealistic.
From the Applecare diagnosis it was an issue with the tv that led to the OP being unable to watch their movie when they wanted, not the rental, and technically one would need warranty or Applecare to receive phone based support for the tv.
I accept it was unfortunate the OP's experience wasn't as it should have been and that it was made a little worse by not being able to speak to someone out of hours, although I do see the need for staff to verify that Applecare has been purchased with each caller.
At the end of the day, the OP's issue was resolved and their was no financial loss to the OP. These things happen, it's unreasonable to expect, or fulminate over not getting, some form of compensation, (although it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask for the rental for free without expectation). What sort of compensation does one thing you would get from Canon if your video camera broke down in the middle of filming your sons graduation day ceremony.

  • Lack of support for FIM database mirroring

The official line is that database mirroring is not a supported architecture for the FIM deployment. I am not proposing using this, however I'd like to understand 1) What the issues really would be with a mirrored database deployment, 2) Will support
ever be added for this, and will it come in the form of SQL AlwaysOn?
    Really appreciate help and input.
    Rgds,
    David

Database mirroring comes has two modes regarding transactions: synchronous or asynchronous.
Synchronous requires that the data be committed in both places before releasing the transaction. This has a big performance impact on the FIM Service database and to a lesser extent on the FIM Sync Database.
Asynchronous means that data isn't committed in both places at the same time, the mirror can fall behind and then in failover you could be behind. In order to have automatic failover with Mirroring you have to be able to modify the connection string to include
the failover partner or the client has to support getting that data at first logon. While you can modify the FIM database connection strings, it is not understood if FIM is using database clients that support mirroring. I believe it is. Even with asynchronous
you still have performance hit for copying every transaction to the mirror.
SQL Always On combines the best of mirroring and clustering to allow you to group databases together into an availability set, and then automatic failover the whole group to another server. It should be noted that Always On makes use of a similar underlying
mechanisms as mirroring to copy the data -- this is evident when you read that Always on also has an asynchronous and synchronous mode. You will most likely run into the same performance quandary.
Will the product group add support for it? My guess is that it depends on if they find a good way to address the performance issues.

  • Upgrading to Mountain Lion and lack of support for Power PC Applications

    Hi
I have been reading with interest the comments and questions about this.
I am a bit of a novice with pc/mac terminology so was baffled to receive the message about Power PC Applications.  I merely upgraded to Lion thinking it would be great to have the latest software on my Mac but am now unable to log into work remotely.
I log in using "Cryptocard" software and tokens.  Does anyone have any experience of getting around the power pc application issue using the Cryptocard software?  I an hoping I wont need to revert back to the previous software after spending £13 upgrading it!
Have contacted Cryptocard for support but comments are welcome
    Many thanks

I have no experience with Cryptocards, but,
    Workarounds:
    1.  Revert to the original OS X that was operating on your Mac;
    2.  Upgrade your PowerPC applications to Intel versions;
    3.  Replace your software with alternatives that work in Lion;
    4.  Partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" system to run your PPC applications but not concurrently with Lion; or
    5.  Do what I do, install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels in Lion:

  • Want to restore from Lion back to snow leopard using my Drobo-Fs.  Lion is my current OS but due to lack of support for powerpc applications I want to go back.  Has anyone done a complete restore from TimeMachine on a Drobo-Fs?

I tried to do this as follows, 1).  Using the install DVD for snow leapard I booted up the mac, 2).  Went into terminal and mounted the Drobo-Fs.  3).  Followed the usual Restore from steps.....
It took around 8 hours just to come to the point of actually starting the restored....and then calculated like +1000000 hours to complete the restore.  So I cancelled it.
Not sure, I mean the drobo-fs backs up data, but can it actually restore(full restore) via TimeMachine is my question.

I'm about to throw my Drobo FS out the window.  It's performance is so erratic.  Right now the green access light is on continuously, yet there's no IO from my mac.  Since upgrading to LION (and finally upgrading the drobo software), I can't log on to the drobo any more. The drobo app says the unit is healthy.
I know that the drobo does internal work from time to time, but there's no way to find out what it's doing. No user feedback at all.  Thank goodness I only use it for regular backups and not time machine. Time to move on.

  • Hugely disappointed with Apples lack of Support for iPhone 3G

I am so very disappointed in Apples lack of response or help regarding the OS4 and iphone 3G.
Originally a hugh support of Apple's philosophy and product, I find myself questioning their values and ulterior motives.
Currently, I have an iphone 3G 8GB. It worked like a dream until I installed the OS4. Like other forum members, my phone freezes, sputters, chokes and does all sorts of unusual oddities. I have gone to the Genius Bar at Apple only to be told that, it works fine for everyone else, excluding me and that basically, there is nothing that they can do about it.
I bring to their attention that on the actual Apple forum, there are others' like myself complaining of the same things! The response I get is that, people on here are not genuine and that you can't believe everything you read. Are they for real? The other responses that I get is to, reboot 3 to 4 times a day, restore, restore to factory, and to wait for the update of OS4.
But if OS4 is the culprit then how can it accommodate my iphone 3G?
Oh and the best response I get from the Apple store is, "if you are unhappy with your phone, you can upgrade to the iphone 4"!
Just recently, I did as told, and updated the OS4 on my phone.. and guess what!? It is worse off than it was previously. I just find it ironic that Apple refused to acknowledge the fact that this operating system (OS4) is rubbish for 3G users.
IM STILL WAITING FOR APPLE TO MAKE IT RIGHT

I can only agree with the above. My iPhone 16gb was fine and after my Wife my best friend to be honest. I've never had a more useful piece of i.t. kit and it's really made a difference to my lifestyle.
My wife's is still on 3.1.2 and comparing our two phones mine *****. My fault for not listening, but you sort of trust Apple until they let you down. OS4 was total crap, 4.0.1 still poor. It's barely faster and several thumbnail photos have gone from the camera roll. Listen to us Mr Jobs!!!
Your iPhone is not like normal phones. Your customers do not simply discard it for a new one, they may well buy a new version, but the old one will pass between family and friends and still be expected to function well many years hence. My current phone is earmarked for my son, my wife's for my daughter and so on as we renew our contracts. We EXPECT these things to work properly, and if you want loyal Apple customers to be retained you must support your older models fully.
A 10 year old with his Dad's old 3g used as an iPod, will be more likely to get a newer iPhone or iMac later on.
