Hi everyone. I have a question. (New here on the forum so hope I'm doing this correctly)
Me and my friend often have a Skype Call where one shares the screen. (One plays a game while the other one watches.) However, whenever I share the screen, there is this immense lag for me, making it pretty hard to do anything while screen sharing. Even when I simply browse the internet with nothing else but the screen sharing open makes my computer really slow. My computer is fast without screen sharing.
The funny thing is that everything else in Skype works just fine. When I simply chat or when I'm calling someone without the screen sharing, my computer just works great and fast. And whenever my friend is the one sharing the screen with me, she is experiencing no lag at all. It's just when I share my screen there's lots of lag.
So I was wondering what the problem here could be. The connection between us seems good enough. After all, regular calls are just fine. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how to fix it? Thanks a lot.

Can you also try to share only a smaller window since if you are sending a high resolution contect, it is quite cpu heavy to encode such a video.

Im using the latest version mac os x macbook retina 15display. When im running Windows 8 through bootcamp I'm having problems when turning down the display the computer always have to reboot again. I have to start it and choose to boot from Windows 8. But when entering Windows8 again it will remeber its state from when turning the screen down. This also causes a problem that I can not use only a single external display because I always have to have my screen up because when turning down it will shut down and my usb devices as mouse or keyboard will no be able to detect the computer. Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

As suggested I checked all CPU data in the Activity Monitor folder and could not see anything running that appeared to be draining CPU space or competing with other applications. The following are the results from the Activity Monitor data:
CPU: %User - 0.37, %System - 0.62, %Idle - 99.12
System Memory: Free - 4.90GB, Wired - 1.15GB, Active - 1.48GB, Inactive - 468.1MB, Used - 3.09GB
I also ran a test on my Mac using www.sppedtest.net, the results are as follows:
Ping Speed - 1575ms, Download Speed - 0.15Mbps, Upload Speed - 0.04Mbps
I am hoping this provides enough information to direct me on what next to check as my Mac internet performance is still poor.

IMac freezes when changing the screen saver

Hi all:
I originally posted this in the "Using Mac OS X" forum (iMac freezes when changing the screen saver, but thought I'd post here as well since the issue arises on a freshly installed OS.
We've got three 350MHz slot-loading G3 iMacs (with 512MB RAM) which we're planning to use for basic word processing. The install of Panther (10.3.5 from black retail cds with 10-seat volume license) went fine on the first two. Ran the updates to 10.3.9, installed MS Office 2004, everything working great (they're a little slow, but after all, they are only 350 MHz).
On the third, the first problem we noticed was the computer would lock up whenever we changed the screen saver from the default (Flurry; Computer Name also works). It continues to do so even after: repair permissions; repair disk; Disk Warrior; reset pram; reset nvram; reset pmu; change RAM; change hard drive; erase hard drive; write zeros to hard drive; reinstall with different set of retail CDs; trash preferences, and delete cache files. (If there's anything I've left out, it's in the other thread).
Now we've noticed that we can't create any new user accounts. We've thought about putting this one in production, just warning the user that they can't change the screen saver, but god only knows what will turn up next.
I'm starting to think it's a logic board issue, but could it be that selective? And would you see the same problem with another hard drive and different install discs? Am I missing something?

I'm going to mark this one as answered.
I removed the hard drive from the iMac, and put it into another 350 MHz iMac, and everything works great. I can select any screen saver without having it freeze, create new accounts, whatever my little heart desires.
In checking the history of the problem iMac, there was an assortment of problems with booting (both from the hard drive and from the CD-ROM drive) which were never satisfactorily resolved. The problems just seemed to go away after sitting unplugged for a few days, as much as for anything we actually did to it.
Now we just have to decide whether it's worth fixing, or using it somewhere in a non-critical role with OS 9 installed.

I don't know which is the Safari version I am using, but I am pretty sure it is the latest one. And I use this same version for a long time and have never experienced any problems. However know everytime I start my Safari, it works perfectly for a few seconds and then the computer stops completely. Nothing works! The mouse arrow moves, but the clicks have no effect. The keyboard keys do not work. The only thing left is turn de computer off using the power button.
I have also noticed that the screen starts becomes pink, but not whole pink but many pink lines show up in front of the screen. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, probably in the Video Board, but it only occurs when using Safari. I did not make many tests, because I was affraid it could damage even more the computer. Therefore, I am not really sure it is a Safari problem.
What can it be and how can I fix it???

Unfortunately, it doesn't.
First, I bought my Mac Book Pro earlier then the specified period. Second, I am not really experiecing a lack of video or a distortion, but another kind of problem. It is more like a complete breakdown, because even the computer stops working, not only the screen. Furthermore, the screen gives signs that a problem occurred, but it doesn't become distorted, it only starts showing many pink lines.

Unfortunately you do not have any options, the iPad one cannot be used for mirroring.

Noise when opening the screen in MacBook Pro 17 Unibody

I had the same problem with my Macbook Pro as well, what I did was that i opened the screen as far as it could go and kept there for a few seconds, and when I closed and reopened the screen it never did it again, never made the that clicking noise again. I bought a new faster laptop but when I looked for the cd with the software and serial I could not find it in the Xmas clutter. I downloaded a trial version of lightroom and got it working on my new laptop. Is there a way to access the serial number from my previously installed version and insert it into the trail version to make it work for me?

While i registered all my cs2 thru 6 versions and my lightroom 2 thru 4 versions and recorded the serials and saved the adobe registration emails. Since this came as a freebee with the camera i neglected this vital step. I have the instslled version on my old laptop but want to install it on my new one. Thanks to Jim Hess I got the serial so all is well in my world and I will register it with ADOBE

Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011 dos not sleep when closing the screen cover. Today I Turner my laptop in. However the fan was working loudly and stayed loud. After Start I noticed an X on Battery symbol. Clicking on it, it showed 'no battery.' I found out that a potential solution for this problem was SMC reset. I also noticed that the leds on magsafe was not lightning. Despite this I tried to execute the smc reset as described on apple support site. Switching off, plugin the magsafe connector, pushed the buttons shift + alt+ ctrl + power. Then i pushed the power button, but my mbp is not turning on. I pushed several times on the power button but nothing works. The magsafe is also dark meaning the leds not lightning. Can anyone here help me on this ?

adobe is slow when using the reader; It is very slow when I give to another person

I am working in Windows 7.
I have a pdf with 1900 pages of maps. I am using adobe acrobat 10 standard and sampling adobe acrobat xI pro. When I click on links moving from each map takes about 8 secs. when I save the file and give to someone that is just using adobe reader the process takes 20 to 30 seconds to move.

ARD 3.3 slow when sharing screen with 30 computers

I have a lab of 30 Mac Pros running 10.5.8. When I connect wirelessly at 300mbps (n), it takes almost 30 seconds for the refresh to begin and it seems to be updating about 0.5 fps. It seems that RD does not "broadcast" the image, rather it sends each workstation the screen refresh.
Is this the expected behavior? Are there other, faster solutions for Mac Labs out there that take over the workstation and display the instructors workstation screen?
I have tried the wired connection, it seems to run about 2x faster, but this solution is not feasible for my setup.
Any help is much appreciated...

They both use VNC, so keep Remote Management on and ignore Screen Sharing and leave it off. It will still function with RM turned on.
