Lagging Home Button

I have been experiencing a lagging home button for a few months. It comes and it goes. I thought it might of been that my storage was near full (79 MB storage space left). I restored my iPhone a few days with only loading half of my apps and now it's lagging more than usual. I am not sure if this is a software or hardware issue. I was even thinking that it might be an app that just keep reloading or something.
Has anyone experience this problem? I am looking to get some solution to finally fix this problem.
Does anyone know any tricks or fixes?
Let me know.

Step 1) – The very first thing you will need to do is launch a stock iOS app like the Calendar, Stocks, YouTube etc.
Step 2) – Once the stock iOS app of your choice has been launched you will need to hold the power button (located on the top of your iOS Device) until the Slide To Power Off toggle appears.
Step 3) – As soon as you see the Slide To Power Off toggle appear you will need to quickly hold the home button until this toggle disappears.
Step 4) – When it does disappear you will have successfully recalibrated your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad’s home button.

  • IPhone 4s Distinctive lag on home button-wake up

Hi so I've got an iPhone 4s recently. This is my second iPhone 4s and I have plenty of apple products (Macbook, iphone 3g, 3gs, ipod touch first gen, second gen) . I've exchanged my first iPhone 4s because of a few bugs on it. I.E. Heating up randomly, home button lags upon waking up, loss of signal randomly when compared to another iPhone 4s in the same area which has service. So upon getting my second iPhone 4s it still has the same distinctive lag. I know for a fact that this isn't normal for an iPhone 4s. It doesn't occur if I use my iPhone but if I let it sit for about a minute or two and then I try turning it on it lags for a good second. The "Slide to Unlock" light also begins to jump around before returning back to the original scrolling across. I've spoken to to genius bar and they have no solution for me. I was wondering if anyone is as disappointed as I am and perhaps know of a solution? The turning off of the triple click did not help me because it wasn't on to begin with. I've turned it on and turned it off and it still isn't fixed. This bug has been with me from 5.0 iOS and 5.01 iOS. I've done hard resets, reset all settings, set up as a new iphone, and restore from back up which all failed to fix this annoying bug. Any help is much appreciated.

    @icassasl
i did not have the problem on my iphone3gs so apparently it has nothing to do with how fast a device is.
i however switched from 3gs to 4 and restored a backup.
may there is something wrong with this.
did you have this problem out of the box or did you also do restore from a previous backup.
    i hooked up my 4
told itunes to use it as a current evice and did a restore from the 3gs backup
after that i got an upgradee to upgrade the os (my 3gs was allready on ios5)
after this everything was the same.
maybe i should try again a restore but first do a total reset to erase the phone so it starts fresh with ios5.0.1
then again the problem might still be in the back.

  • HT1414 My 4th gen iPod touch is slow and has a lot of lag time with the touch screen and home button. It's just slow. Its a 32 gb thats barly half way full and im very disappointed. what do i do?

My 4th generation iPod touch is super slow and sometimes i have to click the home button multiple times before anything happens. Its up to date and is a 32 gb but barely half way full. My friends have the same kind as i do, and they have the same problem. Mine is a little over a year old and i'm VERY disappointed in something that i spent over $300 for. What am i supposed to do to make this peice of crap work like it's supposed to? I paid a lot of money for it and i expect it to work but the only thing i've heard so far is "turn it on and off." Yeah... cause that solves everything. Does anyone know how to help me?

Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.
Also, sometimes restoring the iPod helps.

  • My ipod touch 4th generation keeps lagging, all the apps crash, nothing will update and my home button no longer works?

my ipod touch will not stop crashing, its pretty much un usable now, is it worth resetting to default settings and clearing everything. Its about two years old and the screens been smashed twice and replaced, the home button no longer works, and now its slow and basically nothing even opens or updates. is it the end of my ipods life now ahah.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. You can't do it
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Home button lagging, up to hours

Last night my Home button just stopped working. So i started using the AssistiveTouch, then when i was sending a text, then my phone started to use the home button by itself. Like all my clicks had been queued up. I'm talking hours afterwards.
Then for a bit, the button worked like it should. But after i put it to sleepmode, the same thing happened.
And just now, i playing Candy crush(lol!) it just started again. I couldn't play because it kept going using the home button by itself. Starting voice control etc etc..
I have tried resetting rebooting the phone, I have tried to reset the phone and I have tried to recalibrate the home button.
I mean, I could live with a  few seconds delays, but 10 hours? Nope
Any advice is appreciated, otherwise i'll guess I have to go to the closest store.

    Hello VALLT,
It sounds like your iPhone's home button is taking a very long time to respond.  I found an article with some steps to address this.  You can skip any of the steps you have taken (like restarting and resetting the phone), but it looks like the next step is to restore your iPhone:
The Home button is slow to respond
If the Home button is slow to respond when exiting one application, try another application.
If the issue exists only in certain applications, try removing and reinstalling those applications. For further assistance in installing and troubleshooting applications see this article
If the issue continues, Try turning iPhone off and then on again. If the iPhone will not restart, try resetting it.
If the issue is still happening, try to restore the iPhone
Seek service is the issue is still occurring.

  • Home Button delay

For some reason my iPad mini with Retina Display seems to always be half a second behind other devices when I use the home button to close an app. My friends iPad Air does not have this problem, and both are on iOS 7.1. I usually don't notice it unless I use the devices side by side, doing speed tests and whatnot. My mothers iPhone 5 even exits apps half a second quicker, and so does my iPod 5, with exit times being just about the same as the iPhone 5. All of these devices are on 7.1. This little anomaly is strange, but it doesn't really bother me, just kind of curious whether it is a hardware problem or not. Also, my home button makes a much louder clicking noise than my friends iPad Air, and my moms iPhone 5. This delay also exists for double clicking for multitasking, but does not for triple clicking to open up the accessibility shortcuts. Siri also has about the same time of delay, but I haven't been able to test this compared to my friends iPad Air. The issue for Siri delay may just be with iOS 7 having lag problems with Siri.

Oh crap, sorry I remembered this as soon as I posted... The home click speed option in accessibility. I had it on slow because I noticed myself sometimes failing to double click fast enough to open multitasking... Turned it back to default and it exits in a snap. Sorry!

  • IPod Touch 5 won't turn on and home button broken

    Hello,
So my iPod Touch 5 has been having accumulating issues lately. I've only experienced this issue once before about a year ago. My iPod Touch goes into a state where it can't be turned on by the power button. I've looked up solutions online several times. While the next best thing for me to do is to hold the power button along with the home button in order to restart it, my home button has been jammed for about a year now. I've been using assistive touch for a long time. The iPod does not respond to being charged nor being plugged into my computer. I've had to wait until the battery completely ran out before I could start charging and using it again. This issue has been occurring more and more often, and it's really hindering my ability to keep up with emails, games, and many school-related projects.
I've had this iPod Touch 5 for about 1.5 years now. The home button being jammed was an issue that occurred during the original 12-month warranty that came with buying the product back in the summer of 2013. I thought it was alright to just go with assistive touch for a while, but the jammed button became an issue that just became worse and worse until the button cannot even be pressed anymore. By this time, the 12-month warranty period was over. (This is the 2nd Apple product I've had power/sleep button issues with.)
I live in Chicago, and the cold weather is starting to set in. However, it was still over ~25 degrees F when this happened. I feel that this issue is not so much weather related because it has happened to me twice during comfortable summer weather.
I have a feeling that I may have to go in to the Apple Store in order to get help with this, but the potential repair or replacement fee is probably going to be terribly high. Any ways I can prepare for this visit before going in? Is there anything else I can do at home to get my iPod to live its life again?

My home button broke too after 13 months. The iPod's been lagging and slowing down a lot but for a $300 device, it shouldn't be breaking after a year. Just today it was working ok but then all of a sudden it's not turning on, its not responding to the power button, being charged, or being plugged into the computer, don't know what to do either

  • Home Button wakes the phone slower than using ON/OFF Button ?

Exchanged my old 3GS with a new one yesterday cuz of some under screen dust problem. I immediately notice the Home Button is more laggy than my old one. The screen lits 1 WHOLE SECOND after I press the home button. First I thought it was some software issue, so I hard reseted the phone then restored it as a new phone. But the problem still persists !
The Home Button is not just slow waking up the phone, it also lags when I press it to return to the desktop from an app. Ironically, the ON/OFF button does the job much better. The phone is nearly ON instantly after I press it.
    Genius Bar tomorrow ?

I have noticed this before myself but after I did a hard reset it resolved it for a while but did happen again. Not sure why it does this on my iPhone after updating to 3.1.2. I would have it checked out as long as you didn't drop it as of late. They may charge you for physical damage.

  • The home button has stopped working on my iphone 5c. Did the same a few months ago and recovered 24hrs later. Can anyone explain this problem. Phone still in warranty. Had steam issue recently but this was after last home button episode.

Have an iphone 5c 8g. The home button has stopped working. Did the same a few months ago and recovered 24hrs later. Can anyone explain this problem. Phone still in warranty. Had steam issue recently but this was after last home button episode and no evidence of damage.

If you are playing in hockey arenas a lot or if you are bringing it into bathroom same time as shower it may not seem like much but overtime the steam can acquire and build up in the phones usb dock flex cable swell as the home button flex cable. Bring again into apple store and should be covered under warranty again. could also be a delay in a 8gb 5c software may just be very lag.

  • The home button on my iPod Touch is unresponsive

The home button on my iPod Touch is not working.  Any app that I'm in, I can't get out of because when I press the home button, nothing happens.  Is there a way to fix this?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • The Home button on my iPod Touch is stuck in!

    Hi,
Dropped my iPod this morning. The home button is stuck in. It was bought for me as a Christmas Present. Is it still covered with warranty? Hope it is, if it's not how much roughly? Or is it just a simple DIY 10 min job? Thanks in advance, Freely2

  • How much would it be to replace an iPhone 5s home button?

My phone received some water damage and it looks like the home button needs to be replaced. Anybody know how much it would cost to replace?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

  • Home button issues after iOS 8 update

Has anyone experienced problems with their home button after the iOS 8 update? When I am trying to exit an app using the home button I press it once, but then the iPhone acts as if I have pressed it twice quickly and brings me to the "multitasking screen". It doesn't always do this error, but it is not uncommon and it is very annoying. It never did this before the iOS 8 update. I may try to just restore the iPhone but first I want to see if anyone else is having the same problems or has any suggestions how to fix it. Thanks!!
    ~Rich

Not sure if you remember, but on previous iPhones you can reset your home button by doing this:
         >Open your Stocks App
         >while there, press & hold the power button as if you're about to turn the device off
         >once the "slide to power off" screen pops up, stop pressing the power button and press & hold the home button.  Your screen may flash a couple times but it should return to your apps screen (or home screen, w/e screen you were at before) and the Stocks App should close.  Supposedly this resets the home button
    OR
go into your Accessibility setting under General and set your "Home-click speed" to default.  That setting may have changed when you updated.
Let me know if this works...
