Laggy and choppy videos in Safari

I recently was given a sweet old Ibook G3 14" screen, 610 mb ram, and 40 gig HD.
I installed OS 10.4.11 on it, and it is running great. Recently, I connected to our cable interned via it's Airport Card, and tried to stream some videos. It did not seem to work? I have the newest version of Safari, and Flash. but the videos severely lagged behind the sound, and was also choppy.
It this somewhat low powered laptop destined not to play videos, or can it be altered to get smooth streaming capabilities?

Many have suggested that some choppy playback issues (for in-browser playback) are related to the Adobe Flash plugin.
Adobe has released a new version of the Flash plugin this week, which may perform better (although I can't confirm that the problem has gone away completely).
Here are some steps to follow to cleanly update your Flash:
1) Download the Flash plugin un-installer from Abobe, available at: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
2) Close all browsers on your machine and run the Abobe Flash plugin un-installer you downloaded for your platform.
3) Open your browser and reinstall the Adobe Flash plugin (v.10.0.42.34 or greater), available from Adobe at: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
4) After the installation, close and re-open your browser, then try playing back some Flash video at YouTube or wherever...
Hopefully this works. Good luck.

  • MB Pro 2011 laggy and choppy!!!

I own a barrely 1 year old Macbook Pro and I´m starting to notice some lagging on it.
First I noticed Safari crashing every now and then when i open a new tab, then Safari started getting slow and using a lot of memory.
What I just recently noticed was when I do the "three finger swipe" to see all my widows - it´s not "zooming out" very smooth, instead it is laggy and choppy!!
Must say it´s very annoying and it might seem as it is a minor issue, but my Pro is not even a year old and it shouldn´t be doing that in the first place.
But also, I see it as there must be a bigger underlaying issue???
So, I decided to do a recovery and re-install Lion, took a few hours and it didn´t change anything. At least not the lagging when swiping three fingers, Safari hasn´t crashed yet, but it´s only been an hour since I recovered tho.
    What could be the problem?!

  • Reader scrolling is laggy and choppy

Reader scrolling is laggy and choppy in Mac (OS 10.7.5) to the point it is so slow and unpleasant that I avoid it at all costs. How can I fix this?
Preview refuses to search many pdfs; so I keep both apps open -- Preview to read, Adobe to search. It's very slow and unproductive.
I see an earlier post (2011) that mentions a possible contlict with an app called RightZoom, which I don't have; nor do I understand the solution posted for people without RightZoom (how do I log into a program I haven't installed?).
I'm not a techinical person, so need a clearly explained solution, if there is one. Thank you.

Odd. I know for a fact that RightZoom will have no effect on this, since it is only a UI mod for maximizing windows with the green button. Besides, you don't have it installed.
There's an app called "AppZapper". It completely removes an app and all associated files (preferences, plugins and .plist files)
Download it, Install it, and open it.
Drag the Reader app to the window and "Zap it".
Empty your trash and then download and reinstall the offline installer.
Then open a PDF the was lagging. Let me know if it persists.

  • Slow FPS, graphics and choppy video when connected to a Mini-DVI cable to external monitor on Macbook Mid2007 4GB RAM

    Hi,
I have a Mid-2007 Macbook white. I have upgraded its memory to 4GB. Snow Leopard was working great, and I said to myself maybe it's time to upgrade to Lion.
After the upgrade all was well. However, a big problem occurs when I plug in to the Mini-DVI display port with the HDMI adapter, to connect to my Sony LCD HDTV. The whole graphics and video slow down, everything is choppy. Quicktime and VLC video playback is strobe and choppy looks like very low Frame Rate. Cannot watch anything, not HD nor low resolutions. The entire computer is slow when the cable is connected.
    Things I tried:
*VGA adapter seems to work fine - it's the digital display output that probably causes that.
*Running it through a new user.
This never happened on Snow Leopard. i'm considering to go back. However, I am wondering if there is a way to fix this minor problem.

    Update:
We solved the problem. Weird solution but now it seems to work. I plugged a VGA adpater and played with the screen rsolutions to try and watch a movie well on my LCD screen. I changed the screen resolutions but I couldn't revert back to the default settings. Pressing "Detect Displays" didn't do anything.
Here is the interesting part: When I placed back the DVI-HDMI adapter, suddenly everything worked fine!!! There was no choppy videos, no low fps, works prefect.
Something weird is going on here, but I'm happy I managed to get the DVI to HDMI to work because I was about to removie Lion and bring back Snow Leopard.

  • Adobe Captivate Outputting/Rendering Slow, Sluggish, and Choppy Video when ScreenCasting

When I screencast my desktop and then output/render the video that Adobe Captivate recorded, the video is always so choppy, sluggish, and slow.
I set the frames per second to 80 and interval to 1, 5, and 10, and still choppy video.
My system specfications are as follows:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
    CPU: Intel Core i7 @ 3.40 GHz | Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
    RAM: 16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6600 Series
Is there something that I am doing wrong during/after I record?
    Any help would be awesome!
    Thank you!

    Hey Anjaneai,
I mean slow as in my Cursor movements are not as smooth as I expected with this software.
I have chosen the Video Demo recording mode.
I did check the option to show "Actions in Real Time" from Recording and it only applies to Audio. I am speaking of video. I have tried comparing. I tried comparing with Software Demo, but it's impossible to compare, seeing as Adobe Captivate generates the mouse for you.
I thought that the higher the Frame Rates the smoother the experience.
    Thank you!

  • Jerky and choppy video

    Good morning all!
I'm not sure this is a Final Cut problem, but that's all I use so I'm asking here.
Using FCS3 on a Mac Pro. When I preview a video, everything is fine. But, when I bring the video down to the timeline, it's jerky and choppy. Also, when I export to a Quicktime file the video is not smooth either.
It's only on my machine that this is happening. If I do this on another FCS2 machine, or video the Quicktime video on any other machine (Mac or Win) it's fine.
Seems to me it's something to do with a codec somewhere but I've not the slightest idea where to go looking. I've dumped all the FCS3 preferences and still no good.
All of this started when I upgraded from FCS2 to FCS3. I'm using a Mac Pro with 13GB of RAM and I've got gigatons of free space on all my drives. I'm seeing this problem with video shot on a Nikon D90 in AVI format as well as video shot on a Canon DSLR in their format (forget exact format).
Remember, in the preview, everything looks fine.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Seems to me it's something to do with a codec somewhere but I've not the slightest idea where to go looking.
open any of you files with QT and hit command + I. What does the QT inspector say?
(Alternatively in timeline select a clip and hit command + 9).
If it is a delivery format (like H.264, MPEG etc) then you need to convert
all your material to an editing format like ProRes
    Use [MpegStreamclip|http://www.squared5.com> to convert.

  • Major Issues with Radeon 5770 Upgrade - No 3rd Screen and Choppy Video

I hope someone here can help.
I have upgraded the video card in my 2008 Mac Pro Xeon 2.8 Ghz machine, and the installation was fine. However I have 3 major problems:
    1. I can only get 2 monitors to display
    2. Video is very choppy - not nearly as smooth as the previous graphics card.
    3. I can't move windows completely onto the 2nd monitor.
    1. I have DVI dual-link connected to my DELL monitor 27 inch, mini display port to VGA to an old monitor I use for a second monitor in my equipment rack (I se it to keep an eye on my virtual mixer) and a minidisplayport to HMDI to go to my television, to play back video of projects I am working on.
I can't connect the 2 mini display ports without losing the DVI.
    2. The video is really choppy - moving windows around is not at al smooth and everything seems a bit laggy. Obsiouyl no such issue before the upgrade.
    3. I have the 2nd monitor on the equipment rack where I can see the levels of the various audio I have got going around. That's it's prime function, but I can't move the mixer window all the way over to the second monitor - the edge gets stuck on the main screen. No such issues before.
Does anyone know anything that might help me out of this?

Mac Pro (Early 2009), Mac Pro (Mid 2010): Supported display configurations
Readers here have found that if you have two Brand-X Powered adapters, aka active adapters, it also works fine. These do not always require another USB. If designed recently, they can pick up a power pin in the Mini DisplayPort interface.
AMD (makers of the 5770 and 5870) lists the qualified POWERED adapters that meet their most stringent requirements. Look down the page and you will find several qualified Active Mini DisplyPort to various others, such as HDMI. These adapters are available from other outlets, such as Amazon, sometimes for far less than the Apple adapters.
    http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx
The other desktop monitor will plug directly into the DVI port on the card and the 40 inch tv will still connect via HDMI over the second Mini Display port.
That will work only if you use an active Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
The only (someone) have found to work (2009)
    http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/337561577/miniactive_display_port_tohdmi.html
but you should confirm that they are really active before buying 500 of them.
You can connect a DVI to HDMI adapter or cable to an active Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter but that won't give you any audio over HDMI. You could connect the DVI displays to the Mini DisplayPorts with active adapters and use a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter from the DVI port to the TV.

  • DW CS5 and choppy video in IE

    Problem
Flash video inserted in a webpage made in DW CS5 and played back in IE8 plays back at a frame rate that is too low (looks "choppy").
Flash video inserted in a webpage and played back in IE8 plays back fine and smoothly / correct frame rate.
    In CS3
    Insert / Media / Flash Video / Browse / choosing a 480x270 FLV video at 29.97 fps
    Clicking "detect size"
    Chosing "clear skin 1"
    Saving
Now a screen/message somes up:  "Copy Dependet Files" comes up. It says:
"This page uses an object or behaviour that requires supporting files. The following files have been copied to your local site. You must upload them to your server in order for the object or behaviour to function"
    And then mentions ONE file:
    "......../CS3%20test/Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
I click "OK" and it's saved.
I now go to the folder where I have the index-file and the other files.
I right click on index.html and open it with Internet Explorer 8. It plays smooth and just as expected.
I right click on index.html and open it with Internet Firefox. It plays smooth and just as expected.
Summing up: Inserting a flash video in Dreamweaver CS3 seems to work fine when I play it in Internet Explorer 8.
    In CS5
    Insert / Media  / FLV...  /
I prompts me to save now. I save - and get the "Insert FLV" menu.
I click "Browse" and choose the video I want.
I click "Detect Size" and then hit "OK"
Now I hit "Save again". Now a message comes up:
"This page uses an object or behaviour that requires supporting files. The following files have been copied to your local site. You must upload them to your server in order for the object or behaviour to function"
    Now TWO files are mentioned:
    Scripts/expressInstall.swf
    Scripts/swfobject_modified.js
    I click "OK"
I now go to the folder where I have the index-file and the other files that I made in Dreamweaver CS5.
I right click on index.html and open it with Internet Explorer 8. It plays at a too low frame rate of 10-15 fps and not as expected.
I right click on index.html and open it with Internet Firefox. It plays smooth and just as expected.
Summing up: Inserting a flash video in Dreamweaver CS5 makes the video playing back at a too low frame rate in Internet Explorer 8.
I uploaded the two versions (CS3 and CS5) to a website and had colleagues view it with different browsers and indeed IE8 always displays the video made in DW CS3 smooth and in DW CS5 as choppy/too low frame rate.
    QUESTION
What am I doing wrong here? Any settings I've missed here? I can see that the file saving behaviour is a little different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    David

    1. The videos were encoded identically in both situations. In fact, it is the exact same FLV file being used... Of  course, otherwise it would be a meaningless comparison... But I have tried with numerous different FLV files, different framerates, bitrates and sizes. The problem is identitcal. CS3 plays fine in IE8 and CS5 plays choppy and with a lower frame rate in IE8. The scenario is the same when I compare CS3 and CS5.
    2. No I can't post anything. It's just a low frame rate that's all. Imagin a clip playing at 8 fps. That's what it looks like. Everything works normally, just a low frame rate. Just use any NLE and set the project to play something at 8 -12 fps and that is exactly what it looks like.
Flash video inserted in CS5 Dreamweaver results in IE8 playing back the video at a too low frame rate. Firefox plays it back fine at full frame rate. This indicates the video itself is fine. Something is happening between IE8 and CS5 DW perhaps?
Any more ideas? Thanks and advance.
    David

    Hi Joni S,
how do I find out what version of Adobe Flash Player I have?
To find the version double click your HD icon. When it opens select your HD and then in the resulting finder window search for "flash" (no quotes). In the resulting list look for FlashPlayer.plugin. Click on it once to highlight and then do a Get Info command + i or from the File Menu>Get Info. In the resulting pane look for the version. The latest for 10.3.9 is Adobe Flash Player 9.0.
    hope that helps,

    You might start with:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
If the above reveals nothing helpful, then create a new user account. Log out of your account and log into the new account. Do the problems cease?

  • Safari 4 exhibiting slow, choppy video playback

Since I've updated Safari on my G5, I can no longer watch videos or flash with it. They all play extremely slow and choppy to where it's impossible to watch. This problem extends to simple flash as well.
    I know it's not my G5 because:
    1) No such problems occurred prior to Safari 4
    2) Right now I can watch the same videos on my G5 in Firefox perfectly which I can't in Safari
I'm just looking for confirmation here, so if anyone else with a non-Intel Mac is experiencing this trouble, please let me know. Also, if this is a known problem, let me know that as well (I didn't see that it was going through the search tool). Finally, if anyone knows a fix for this other than the obvious one of using Firefox instead, please chime in with that info, too.
    Thanks

    Fine, we'll start again!
It may be worth reinstalling FlashPlayer.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2009-001 (and for Tiger only, 2009-002 and 003). (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)

  • Videos played via internet are so slow and choppy, SLOW Firefox

Was wondering if anyone knew for sure the reason why videos/movie trailers played thru either Safari or Firefox are extremely slow and choppy on my G5 imac or G4 iBook laptop. Not sure if the outdated processors cant handle the flash embedded videos Youtube, Quicktime and other sites post, but it is really annoying not to be able to watch anything smoothly. Even if i let the entire video load (if it is a quicktime), then play it, it still is very choppy. The audio plays fine, but the video never keeps up. I have a 6mb DSL connection, so that cant be the problem. Any video I play via my iPod Touch (aside from flash videos it cant play) they are as smooth as can be (And that is via a wireless connection). Which makes me think it is a processor issue. Any thoughts?
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can remedy this situation? (aside from buying a new computer...)
PLUS, does anyone notice how slow Firefox is, or is it just me? Seems like even when i type in this form field, time lags as the letters show up. I have the latest version, and it is so slow. Switching tabs takes time... Reading and accessing RSS fields in the Feed Sidebar plug in is really slow...
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

QuickTime is designed to "drop" frames during playback when the machine can't keep up with the video data rate (audio continues normally). This may appear as a "stutter" during playback on an older machine.
It's not based on the Internet connection speed.
Apple movie trailers use the newer (2005) H.264 video codec and they demand a high CPU (Intel is best). You should get better performance on your G5 than on the G4.
Videos encoded using Flash will be equally difficult to view on older machines
