Laggy Mouse

I have a 13" MacBook Pro Retina, Late 2012.  When at home, I often have it hooked up to two 24" monitors via Thunderbolt > DVI.  Everything runs smoooooth as can be including 1080 video, Photoshop, FinalCut Pro, etc. except....the mouse cursor.  The dang mouse cursor is laggy and jumps a bit while it's being moved around.  What gives?

a. With no monitors attached, it performs as it should - smoothly.
b. Everything is closed when the computer is powered up.  Only Finder is running.  I've also run Activity Monitor and system resources appear to be running at a minimum.
c. Immediate, it would seem.
d.  The mouse works out of the box so I don't think it needs drivers, etc.  Maybe someone else knows more about that...?
e. No mouse pad being used.  This only occurs with the added USB mouse. The trackpad does not have lag.

  • Bluetooth mighty mouse laggy

Is it just me, or are wired mouses more responsive. I've had to stop using my bluetooth mighty mouse because there just seems to be too much of a delay between when I move the mouse and when the pointer moves on the screen. Anyone?

I get the lag when there is a lot of network activity such as copying a file across the network or when Time Machine is activated.
I've tried changing the channel on my AirPort Express and it has helped but on some channels the wireless connection itself is less stable and keeps dropping periodically.
I've yet to find the channel that gives me both stable wireless and no laggy mouse.

  • KDE mouse freeze

When it  happens, only keyboard can be used, sometimes left mouse key can be used ,while middle and right mouse button doesn't work and the cursor moving normally. I have to kill xorg to make it normal. I tried only restarting kwin and it didn't work. I notice it start to happen when I was using chromium and suddenly right/middle mouse  button stops responding and later left click stops responding too, while the cursor moves as usual. Any one experiencing same problem?
Edit1:It happend again just now and I find I can reproduce it every time I click mouse right button very quickly in Chromium. After that when I scroll mouse middle button chromium switches tab as if the cursor is always on the tab bar when it is not.

If you enable the magic sysrq key in /etc/sysctl.conf, Alt+SysRq+K might do the trick too.  Also see if you can get to another VT by Ctrl+Alt+F1.
As for the freezing problem, check your logs (/var/log/Xorg.0.log[.old], dmesg) to see if anything significant happens near a freeze.
What graphics driver are you using?  I had similar problems with the proprietary nVidia drivers for a long time; switching to Nouveau fixed that.

  • Buggy USB 3.0 Dock

    Well well,
i just bought a new X1 Carbon plus USB 3.0 Dock. What should I say: I can't work with the docking!
I'm using a wireless Keyboard + Mouse (MS Arc series) and BOTH lag-as-hell. I Can't write even 1 sentence without the keyboard to lag and not type what i'm typing.
Same with the mouse. Moving the docking like 10cm away from mouse and keyboard improved the situation but it's still simply impossible to work with the docking. I tried different docking USB ports, all do the same.
Since it sometimes works for a few minutes without interruption and then starts hanging for a few seconds it dosn't seem to be a compleate wireless problem! It seems like the dock just messes everything up.
I'm on the latest USB Dock firmware and am using the latest WIN7 x64 drivers which lenovo offers at the website. USB 3.0 Intel drivers have been installed first, after that the docking drivers have been installed and the docking was plugged in, installing every single driver correctly (no issues reported by device manager).
is it just me or is the dock pure crap?

I just got my Helix and USB 3.0 dock last week...  I used the dock for displaylink, ethernet, harddrive dock, wireless mouse receiver and plugged some speakers.
Holy did I have issues with the dock seemingly rebooting, laggy mouse performance, even while transferring files from harddrive dock to network caused all my ram to be 100% used for the longest time.  To be fair, not sure if it's the fault of the file transfer but after taking a lunch and coming back, it had settled down (but there was an error in file copy)
Plugging in the speaker for the first time made the computer freak out too...
that was basically my day 1/2 experience...  Not a good first impression  I thought usb3 was supposed to be awesome.
Hoping that there is something in the works to improve performance.

  • P965 Neo JMicron ?buggy? in PATA-mode and cannot install newest driver

I have a MSI P965 Neo and a PATA HDD (alone on the IDE-cable)
if I copy some big files over network (via onboard realtek) from 2 other computers in my network:
    PATA:
    a) files are ok (correct md5), without the JMicron-driver 1.06.01.00 from MSI website, but very slow speed and laggy mouse.
    b) files are NOT ok, with JMicron-driver 1.06.01.00, speed is fast, mouse are ok.
if I use a PATA-2-SATA adapter from a friend and the HDD is
    a) hooked on JMicron-SATA-Port, with JMicron-driver 1.06.01.00, files are ok.
    b) hooked on intel-port, files are ok.
I did some tests with a dlink-NIC on msi mobo, but in PATA-mode on JMicron still errors.
so for the JMicron in PATA-mode there is a bug, in SATA-mode not.
I have hope with with the new driver from MSI site vesion 1.14.00.00 but this one won´t install - got a dialog with "updatedriverforplugandplaydevices: error".
any help ? coz I cannot use the PATA-2-SATA adapter from my friend forever and buying one isn´t a big deal but I paid already for not 100% bugfree msi p965 neo.
    update:
filecopy from internal hdd to external usb-hdd, is not a problem, only over network. so JMicron in PATA-mode produces errors if realtek-onboard-chip is under load or an other NIC.
OS was WinXP SP2 32bit, but WinXP x64 has the same problem.
I tried also older realtek drivers but no success.
but Vista RC1 has no errors with filecopy over network with jmicron in pata-mode, with Vista´s default drivers for JMicron and realtek-nic

I got the same problem with "HANGING"... the whole system freezes (mouse and sound for example) when I access my DVD burner, e.g. wenn I insert a new DVD, and/or copy a file like VTS_04_1.VOB to my system (just for testing). I never experienced this behaviour in any PC system before... This isn't acceptable on a 2 gig, 6600 core 2 duo system.
I played World of Warcraft recently, and burned a video DVD from a hdd image file at the same time - which should be blindfoldly managed on a core 2 duo 6600.
on my old system (an amd, single core) the same action would have no effect on the game. But on my new MSI board system, there were major hangs to the game... Just when the system accessed the DVD burner.
More strange appears to me, that accessing the second DVD device, the DVD-R (just reading) doesn't cause any hangs to my system.
I never had any of this occurences in any PC before ... This must have something to do with the Jmicron IDE to SATA2 "bridge".
I got the JMB36X 1.14.01.exe and the latest BIOS
My system specifications read as follows:
1x 3R Systems DCase R202, silver be quiet
    1x SilentMaxx 480Watts, 19dB extra silent
    1x MSI P965 Neo-F Socket775, FSB800/1066 ATX PCI-E16x
    2x CSX1024MB DDR2 DIMM, 800MHz, original Value
    1x Core 2 Duo E6600 (2,4GHz 4MB), Box S775
    1x GeForce 7900 GTX 512 MB Gigabyte, TV-Out/DVI Retail
    2x SATA2 250GB Samsung SP2504C
    1x LG GSA-H20L Black Lightscribe, Retail Nero+Kabel
    1x Lite-ON DVD-ROM SHD-16H5S-05C, 16X
Hoping there will be a fix soon... I noticed this strange behaviour at once, when I installed Heroes of Might and Magic V (just after I bought my new system) and wondered, why the installation routine takes SOOOO long and consumes one core cpu completely....

  • Mouse laggy or unresponsive after leaving sleep

Sometimes when my MBP leaves sleep the mouse (trackpad) jumps randomly around the screen. I've discovered that enabling the wifi causes it to be better behaved, but it remains slightly jerky and laggy. If I turn the wireless back off, it will jump around the screen again until I manage to re-enable the wireless.
Disabling/Enabling bluetooth doesn't affect this behavior. top doesn't show anything using more than 5% of the CPU, iostat doesn't show massive amounts of transfer, lots of RAM in use, but a lot is still free too. Logging out and logging back in doesn't fix it. There isn't much running it could be since I just logged out and logged back in to try to fix it.
One interesting note is that the screensaver visualization is also jumpy and slow.
Messages like these also appear in the system log:
    IOHIDSystem::relativePointerEventGated: Unwanted Direction Change X: oldDx=6 dx=-1500
    IOHIDSystem::relativePointerEventGated: Unwanted Direction Change Y: oldDy=6 dy=-1500
    IOHIDSystem::relativePointerEventGated: Unwanted Direction Change X: oldDx=0 dx=0
Any ideas? I do not have the iStat widget that is repeatedly blamed in other threads.

    NUXI,
I just got bitten by the same symptom. I'm beginning to think there's some problem with sleep and my MBP. I've had quite a few instances where it hasn't waken from sleep completely.
I'm certain it entered sleep since the LED was pulsing as normal - then when I lift the lid - the sleep LED goes off - but the display never comes back. I've listened carefully to the bottom of the unit and I can hear the HD spinning again - and both fans spin up - but the display doesn't start up. There is no backlight and no image either.
After that - the machine never seems right again other than rebooting. I was able to "wake" the screen by using another mac to "share the screen" - once I logged in over the network - the screen woke up the rest of the way.
Just like you - CPU usage is less than 5% - but the trackpad just doesn't respond smoothly. I have nothing connected - bluetooth is off, wifi is my network, but the track pad just became unusable. The keyboard did seem to be responsive - the shortcut key for logging out worked pretty much instantly - but the trackpad was useless...
    Tons of <pre>2/3/08 8:46:46 PM kernel IOHIDSystem::relativePointerEventGated: Unwanted Direction Change Y: oldDy=-2 dy=264 </pre> messages - between 30 to 60 per second were logged...
It seems to me that something else was dragging the system down and this was just a side effect of the polling mechanism not getting input in a timely manner....

  • Upgrading from FF 15.1 to Firefox 16, the Bookmark menu is very laggy. Moving the mouse is slow in menu.

I have been using FF 4ever.
After the update to firefox 16, when I drop the bookmark menu down, scrolling thru the menu, the movement is laggy, like stuttering.
If I leave the menu down on the screen and move the cursor across the menu, the mouse pauses and jumps like 3" on the screen. like it hits a border and sticks then jumps across. But then I test and move the mouse across all menus and its laggy. but once I surf or click on a link, its fine. I disabled hardware Accel. to test, no help. I did a clean install of FF by cleaning and deleting all mozilla and firefox folders. no help. So I downgraded to 15.0.1 and all is well. I tested 15 and 16 both with importing the bookmarks and only FF16 is having this issue.
System is Windows XP, SP3 Pentium 4 3.06HT
    2GB Ram
    ATI Radeon3850 HD AGP card

Weird thing is that if I revert back to FF15, everything works with HA enabled and full bookmark menu.
but its a no go with FF16
    PEACE

  • BT Mighty mouse lagginess fixed ?

My BT MM with D link on G5 and Steermouse is wonderful when it is working well, about 90% of the time. The other 10% it is choppy and laggy as others have said.
Yesterday I moved the D Link nearer to the mouse (was on the floor mixed up with power supplies etc) and it was good, but only a few hours later I updated to 10.4.8 and all is still good. So I am very hopeful that it is fixed, but don't really know whether the move or 10.4.8 fixed it (if iindeed it really is fixed).
10.4.8 claims to have improved bluetooth connectivity, perhaps it has.
    Mike

Definitely fixed, but still don't really know if it was moving the D-link or 10.4.8. Probably the former.

  • Glitchy, skipping mouse & laggy dialogues please read...

    Hi all,
I'm having some very irritating problems on my MacPro, and I would like to figure this stuff out...
    • Glitchy, skipping mouse, especially noticable when using Indesign. It's repeatable WHENEVER I use a dialogue box, especially Save/Close/Open - anything that accesses another file, even when all my disks are awake and running. Indesign seems to show that the system is laggy, and unresponsive.
    • Long waiting times to access Open Dialogue box in Safari +(like when uploading to Flickr for example)+, beachball effect *every time*. Safari is also laggy, delaying when it comes to mouse clicks.
    I have done the following:
Restarted using the System Disk, +which my Mac hates to do - it doesn't want to see the system on it+, and run disk utility on all disks, including my Time Machine disk.
Repaired Permissions on the System Disk.
    Emptied the cache in Safari.
Normally, I have my system running for weeks on end, but have restarted it a few times recently, so I don't think it's because I need to restart. I think it's worth noting that the system takes quite a while to decide which disk to start up from, but once it has picked Macintosh HD, it starts up pretty quickly. Also of note (?) my Time Machine disk is full.
I would like to get to the bottom of these issues, I have only started to notice them in the last couple of months, so I'm figuring that I've installed something odd...
Is it too easy to point the finger at Adobe Flash, Adobe Air, and Magic Prefs?
Also, my MacPro is sitting on it's side - is that really a problem?
    Many thanks,
    Aaron

Also, my MacPro is sitting on it's side - is that really a problem?
Two quick questions about this. Have you always had it sitting on its side or did you do so recently, about the time your problems began? When I was actively doing tech work in the 90's more than one hard drive tech recommended against using the drive in one orientation and then switching it to another later. I don't know it this remains an issue with current generation drives. Also, is the way your Mac is situated allowing free airflow through all its vents? The problem you describe could be caused by drive read/write issues or heat issues.
When TimeMachine is running, in generally, I don't notice its existence. However, when TM does some heavy lifting, such as determining what to delete when the drive is too full, it does become noticeable on my computer. We're talking fast iMacs and MacBook Pros, not MacPros. I'd be surprised if your problem were TM related, and if it were it would only be occurring while TM ran which is only once an hour.
    General troubleshooting tips:
    1) create a new user account and see if the problem follows into the new account. (I think it will, but it is worth trying.)
    2) start up in safe mode and see if the problems exist there. Booting into safe mode not only cleans out the various caches (which can cause problems) but it also loads only the vital Apple drivers. If the problem disappears in safe mode but reappears when you reboot that would hint at a 3rd party driver issue.

  • Laggy USB Mouse

    Hello,
I've installed Arch on my Macbook, and I've been noticing that my USB Mouse gets really choppy and laggy. It works fine for touch pad (via synaptics), the problem is with just usb mouse. I've poked around in Google, but I couldn't get much information.
Any help would be appreciated. I'll provide logs if it would help (I don't know which logs would be useful, so please tell me)
Edit: I should also add that it works fine for the first little while after I reboot. Then after a little while of surfing on Chromium (coincidence?), the mouse gets laggy and choppy. Restarting X doesn't seem to solve the issue, but rebooting does.
Last edited by kcirick (2011-02-13 21:41:28)

The mouse is not the problem. I've tried with another mouse and it's the same thing. The same mouse works flawlessly on OSX.
There was nothing peculiar in Xorg logs, but in /var/logs/kernel.log:
    Feb 13 18:45:02 localhost kernel: chromium-sandbo (3237): /proc/3235/oom_adj is deprecated, please use /proc/3235/oom_score_adj instead.
So I think it is chromium-related. I have no idea what the error means. I'll test other browsers to see if chromium is in fact the source of the problem.

  • Mouse is very laggy while using trackpad, but click and right click are not

This problem started yesterday.  While using the trackpad, the mouse became very laggy.  I stopped to see if a few minutes would help fix the problem, but the mouse kept moving sporadically.  I can click and right click fine and with no lag, but the mouse is either non responsive or extremely laggy.  The problem was infrequent at first, but now it is almost constantly there.  I'm using a MacBook Pro with Mac OSX version 10.5.8.

Use the Toshiba application installer to reinstall the Touchpad driver.
To find it search your laptop for Toshiba application installer and run it is will download and install all your drivers.
