Laggy Published .exe file on Netbook and Mac...

Greetings Fellow Captivate Users,
I am having the issue of when I publish my Captivate 5.5 project to an .exe file and test it on virtually any netbook PC the presentation is laggy/slow...meaning all animations are 1/2-1 second slower than normal and audio responses (audio files triggered by click boxes) and click boxes are slow to respond as well.  Also, my published app file for Macs presents the same identical laggy problem as experienced on netbook PCs.
My eLearning project has the following specs:
- running full version of Captivate 5.5
- 190 slides with photos (jpgs - each jpg roughly under 10k) and audio files (see below).  Each slide is roughly 3 seconds long and pauses waiting for user interaction "click to continue"
- I tried breaking up the project and making the project smaller with less slides so it is well under the 16,000 recommended amount of frames for Flash movies and this laggy problem still occurs on both netbooks and Macs
- the laggy .exe problem DOES NOT occur on mid-range/modern Laptop PCs or Desktop PCs
- audio files are passive and only triggered via click boxes (triggered after user clicks on picture, click boxes are layered on top of pictures),
- I am saving my Captivate 5.5 files locally on my own computer, as well as all my assets for my projects are saved locally
- I am NOT using a network drive for saving any files or assets
- Quiz Reporting is TURNED OFF in preferences and for all slides, buttons, click boxes, etc.
- I have found no looping occurences/Actions in my projects
- the published .swf file (for viewing the project in a browser) works perfectly on all PCs, netbook PCs, and Macs
UPDATE --- I should also note that I updated the Flash Players on all the Netbooks and Macs that I am testing my project on to the latest Flash Player version:  11.x    and I am still getting laggy/slow presentation issues.
My PC specs:
- Windows 7 SP1
- Intel Core i5  M460 @ 2.53 GHz
- 4GB RAM
- 64 Bit PC
- 248GB Free out of 500GB
If anyone else has experienced this same issue, knows why this is occuring, or can guide me on what settings to possibly change to remedy this issue, I would be grateful.  Also, if you need more specs on my project please let me know.  Many Thanks!

  • .exe file not working and impossible to publish

    Hello,
I made a winform using ODP.Net Entity Framework and Linq to an Oracle 10gr2 through a network. It works fine under Visual Studio 2010, but when I try to use the .exe file (in release and in debug) it doesn't. It stops when try to use a Linq query or a stored procedures through Entity Framework.
Also I can't publish. I have an error : Unable to begin updating resource for bin\Release\app.publish\setup.exe with error 80070002 .
Is it a known bug, did I discover a something, or am I doing something wrong(I hope)?

Actually...never mind. This script creates a HUGE security
    risk....

  • Scrollbar in published exe file

Hello, can anyone tell me, of it is possible to publish a
project to a .exe with a scrollbar?
Because in our company there are some people with 15" screens
and now they don't see the bottom of the full screen *.exe
I hope there is a way to scroll within the published exe
    file.
    kind regards,
    Bill

    Welcome to our community, Bill
First off, there is no way I'm aware of to include a scroll
    bar like that.
Computer screens are just like TV screens. If a person with a
21 Inch monitor views something, it simply appears larger than it
appears on a 15 inch monitor.
What is at play here is something called
Resolution. While for TV screens, the only thing that really
comes into play is the size, with Computer monitors you care about
resolution. Resolution is how finely the divisions occur with the
display units. These are called PixEls, which is a combination of
Picture and Elements. So often, smaller screens use a lower
    resolution, hence the issue.
You may wish to consider Publishing the Captivate as a SWF
and only linking to the SWF. While that would probably impact the
quality of the end user's experience, it should accomplish the
goal. So instead of opening a .EXE, the user would open a .SWF in
    the browser.
Hopefully this was helpful. If not, it was intended to be.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Sharing files between users and macs

My husband and I share an iMac. I have a MBA for traveling and my husband a PC laptop (though he rarely uses for private stuff). We both have iPhones.
We are looking for a way to:
    - Share our photos (we don't use iPhoto) and some files. We would like to have this in one shared folder, that we can access from both accounts in the iMac, the MBA and ideally (though not a must) the PC and iPhones. We would both need to have admin rights to edit documents, etc.
    - Have access to all the information in my account on the iMac from the MBA. Ideally, same thing for his and the PC.
    - Have access to all the data remotely when traveling.
    - Have all the data backed up locally (we already have a cloud backup, but we'd like to have a local backup too as it's easier and quicker to access)
We have read a lot about configuration, NAS, time capsule... but we get more and more confused, as we are obviously no tech experts.
Dropbox is not our preferred choice. We already have a cloud backup system. We'd rather have the files stored and accessed locally for everyday use.
Using a NAS to store shared folders and backup the rest sounds good, but they either seem very complicated to set up, or they have mixed reviews in terms of stability, especially to access files remotely.
Timecapsule seems easier and more straightforward, but I'm not sure it would solve the "sharing files between users and macs with admin rights"? It seems to be more focused on backing up the main drive and then providing access to the backed up files. (Though I might be completely mistaken!)
We just can't manage to have one shared folder between both accounts in the iMac. We need to grant admin rights document by document. We don't manage to make it work automatically so we both have one folder to access with full rights for all the contents inside it. And this seems to me like something that should easily be done...?
Any help, advice, proposals... would be greatly appreciated!!!

Move any file you want to the other user to access to the Shared Folder. Anything you put in that folder is available to all users.
    The shared folder is here:

  • How to share files between pc and mac via external hard drive

how can i share my files(mp3,mp4,documents) from my harddisk with mac. i am a new mac user and i have a harddisk of NTFS format(as i was a pc user).I learned that mac supports FAT32 format and therefore i can't write data on my external hard drive.
but, reading a section of OSX yosemite(under compatibility) it is said that now we can easily share files between pc and mac.
So please suggest me easier way that how can i share files between macs and pc as my friends uses pc and in future i really want to share my data with them without any hustle and i dont wanna loose my data in future

You can format the HDD to a common one like ExFAT or Fat32 but a reformat will delete all data off of the HDD.
Your other option is to use a third party software such as Paragon or Tuxera that will allow you to write to a NFTS formatted HDD.
    Ciao.

  • Does anyone know if there is a way to share files between Mavericks and Mac OS 9.1 operating system?

Does anyone know if there is a way to share files between Mavericks and Mac OS 9.1 operating system? When I try to connect from my iMac I get a window that says "The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported." Is there a work-around to this problem or is it just not possible? It would be largly appriciated for a solutin beings my business is a small town newspaper, and we have some important files on the older computer that need to be acessed daily.

Actually to share files between OS 8-9 and OS X, all versions, is quite easy from what I read. Look here for some details.
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20003464-263.html
    And here.
    https://www.google.com/search?q=file+sharing+Mac+OS+9.x&oq=file+sharing+Mac+OS+9 .x&aqs=chrome..69i57.20706j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Or since both OS 9 and OS X can do SMB Windows sharing you could use that protocol to share files from one to the other.
Doesn't really matter what OS you are using. Mac OS/OS X shar files with Windows computers of all types and versions of Windows so the same applies for the different versions of Mac OS/OS X.
Each Operating System takes care of reading and writing files to there respective file formats of the hard drives so that does not have to be the same. They both just have to be able to do Ethernet with the same files sharing protocol.

  • Published EXE file Error-Adobe captivate 4

    Hi,
I'm having problems with publishing an EXE file in Adobe captivate 4. I know it has something to do with our internet browser settings, we are a Court location and we have strict settings, but I'm wondering if there are work arounds through adobe captivate. See error below:
-allowing active content such as script and ActiveX controls can be useful, but active content might also harm your computer. Are you sure you want to let this file run active content? Y/N
-Help protect security, internet explore has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer, click here for options.
If you just select yes and proceed the captivate file runs fine and you can complete the training. Our goal is to be able to publish in this format because it's more stable than the PDF or HTML option but we don't want users to experience this error from the start.
Thanks for helping with my questions!
    Libby

Hi, I've been trying to attach an image for the error message we get but not matter what I do it gives me an error and won't let me attach the image. Any suggestions or do you have an email I can send them too. The error message may be a little different than what I sent previously, it seems to give a different error message on different computers. But we are currently trying to create a new release of our training program so this should be the most current error message and the error message people will see when they open it on their PC's. Anyway this is what it says:
    First Error Message:
    File Download-Security Warning
Do you want to run or save this file?
Name: BasicCORIS_AttachAnAttorney.exe (name of our file)
    Type: Application, 9.27MB
    From: C:/CourtsOnlineTraining\Program Files\Dist....
Run     Save     Cancel (we select run, than you get next error message)
While files from the Internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you do not trust the source, do not run or save this software. What's the risk?
    Second Error Message:
    Internet Explorer- Security Warning
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?
    Name: BasicCORIS_AttachAnAttorney.exe
    Publisher: Unknown Publisher
    Run    Don't Run
This file does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher. You should only run software from publishers you trust. How can I decide what software to run?
I hope this makes sense. Let me tell you a little more about how our training is set up. We load the training on to a USB stick that includes a menu, the training modules, and a shortcut. Once the USB is downloaded on to the users PC they can select a shortcut icon for the training. Once they select the training shortcut it opens a menu that they can select training from. When they select on the desired training this is when they would receive these error messages. Our current release is in a HTML format, but because of this format the training interacts with the web browser and causes us problems so we were hoping to publish in exe and the training wouldn't open in a web browser.
Let me know if you have further questions or if I've just confused the situation more. Again thanks for your help!

  • Published .exe file won't start in IE

I published a .exe file. It works as a stand-a-lone file, but if put it in a file storage area and use IE to link to it, the file will not start. It Works fine in Firefox. What setting(s) do I need to change in Captive to get the .exe file to work in IE?

The applet does need to read several data files located in a subdirectory of the folder where the class files are. Is that likely to cause a problem? You are reading them via getDocumentBase(), aren't you? I expect your HTTP server would have to be configured to serve those files, but I could be wrong.

  • Published .exe file - Captivate 5

We recently upgraded from Captivate 3to Captivate 5, with Captivate 3 we published all of our projects as .exe files and never experienced a problem.  However, I just created a project in Captivate 5, published it as a .exe file (tried with both Flash Player 9 and Flash Player 10) and users cannot access the file.  Those of us that have the Captivate 5 application installed on our PCs can open the .exe file without a problem.  However, the users that do not have the Captivate 5 application cannot open it.  All of us have Flash Player 10 installed, therefore, I don't believe it's a problem with the Flash Player.  The error message that they are getting states, "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
My project information is as follows:
    Resolution:  800x600
    Slides:  13
    Slides with audio:  0
    Audio quality:  MP3, 96 kbps, 44.100 KHz
    eLearning output:  Acrobat.com
    Display score:  Yes
    Enable Accessibility:  Yes
    Skin:  City Night
    Flash(SWF) size and quality:  Custom
    ActionScript Version:  AS3
I also published it as an .swf file (with html) and they cannot open the .swf (I believe because they don't have a swiff point player), but could open the .html.  However, the .html doesn't work properly with posting quiz results to acrobat.com.
Your help is greatly appreciated, at this point, it's preventing us from using Captivate 5 for anything.

    Hi David,
I don't understand why Adobe Technical support is still working on a solution .... when one has already been developed and WORKED !!! Unless other people are having a slightly different problem with publisheding as .exe file ??
Here is the details of the bug I reported on 16th August 2010:
Feature Request/Bug Report : Bug Report
    Product                    : Captivate
    Product Version            : version 5
    Browser                    : Microsoft Internet Explorer
    Web Server                 :
    Application Server         :
    Database                   :
    Operating System           : Windows XP
    OS version                 : 5.1 SP3
    HTTPREFERRER               : https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=5
    Feedback Report            : ******BUG******
Captivate 5 Projects published as .exe will not run on Learners computers where Captivate 5 has NOT been installed. When they try to run the .exe file the following message is received: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". Learners computers are running on Windows XP
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Start Captivate 5
    2. Create project from project template. Note project template was created in Captivate 5
    3. Project created contains 5 slides, 4 slides are recording slides
    4. Save project
    5. publish project as Windows .exe  6. .exe files runs on computer with Captivate installed
    7. send file to learner (with no Captivate installed) and when the try to run it, the error message appears
Results: error message received: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"
Expected results: .exe file should run eLearning program created with Captivate 5
Here is the solution (minus the attached file since I can't add files to this forum) I received on 16th August:
We really appreciate you reporting this issue. The issue has been addressed and I am attaching the fix with this email.
Please follow the below steps -
    1. Rename the attached 'FakeFlash.txt' file to 'FakeFlash.Exe'.
    2. Go to "<Adobe Captivate 5 Installation Folder>/ExecutablePublish"
    3. Take a backup of 'FakeFlash.Exe' file.
    4. Replace the 'FakeFlash.Exe' with the one renamed in step 1
    5. Launch Captivate, Open the Project, and publish it to Exe
Let us know if it solved your problem.
    Thanks
    Ravi
I suggest Adobe Technical Support talk to their colleague, Ravi, for the solution instead of re-developing it. And post it on the Adobe site so everyone has access to it.
As much as I enjoy particatpating & helping the Captivate community ... I'm sorry I just can not act as you distributor of bug fixes because Adobe can't get their act straight on this MAJOR problem.
    Best Regards, Carol

  • Sync reading location pdf file on ipad and mac

Is there anyway to keep the reading location sync'd between an ipad and a mac with a pdf file?
I have the pdf file in the ibook library that is sync'd between my ipad and mac, however, my
reading location doesn't seem to be updated.

Not sure what a "Preview File" is ... but I will assume you mean a PDF file.
First of all, Apple products are very good at reading PDF files.  In general, you don't need any special PDF viewer, as these are built in.
The place I would store PDF documents is in the iBooks reader.  iBooks is a free app available in the App Store.  It is where you would keep books you purchase in the App Store.  Those books are stored in iTunes on your computer.  You can store your PDFs there too.
To find PDFs, open iBooks, click on the "Books" button and then select PDFs.

  • How to create an exe file using labview and arduino?

I bought Arduino Mega 2560. I have installed Arduino IDE 1.7.3. I am using Windows 7 64bit version and Labview 2012. I started working after the compilation of LIFA_Base File with Arduino IDE and with labview.
My application is: I have connected my arduino to my PC via USB for read input/output pins. I have to read all the time an analogue input from arduino and I have to draw the graphical representation of the input. I would like to know if I can create an exe file of this application. I would like to use the created exe file to another PC without labview installation.
Please help me to resolve the problem.
    Regards

Yup you sure can.  With Application Builder, that is bundled with several LabVIEW packages you can make an EXE, and then make an installer that can include the LabVIEW Run-Time engine (free) and you'll also need the VISA run-time for talking to serial devices like your Arduino.
Then you should be able to run that installer on any normal Windows PC and without the development environment be able to run your program.
Note that currently Student, and Home versions of LabVIEW do not have the application builder since it is intended for learning, and hobbyist, not for distributions.
