LAMP Installation = broken mpd

I installed Apache, MySQL, PHP and PHPMyAdmin yesterday in preparation for a project I'll be doing for someone, and now mpd won't start as a daemon; reinstallation didn't help either. Any ideas?  Is there some log file I can check to see why it won't start? I tried starting it when httpd wasn't running to see if there's some problem there, but mpd still wouldn't start.

LAMP works for me, so it may be a configuration issue.
Umm.. well I know where the log files are for apache, but they're unlikely to help me fix mpd   I found the .error and .log files for mpd, they're in $HOME/.mpd/ , but they're both empty! This is really frustrating.. what the hell can it be? mpd was fine yesterday.. it connects on the default port, 6600, is it possible that one of the LAMP pieces of software is interfering with this? Yet if that were the case, surely me stopping all the LAMP-related daemons would allow me to start mpd...
The only other thing I've change since yesterday is my /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost kaminoitte
That's fine though, isn't it?
Gaargh, this is doing my head in
EDIT:  Aah.. it might be a groups problem.. maybe. I've got it in my mpd.conf to run under user 'dave', but I accidentally used 'useradd' instead of 'usermod' yesterday when adding myself to the mysql group I made, so I may be missing from one of the necessary groups. I added myself back to optical and video yesterday.. would someone using mpd be good enough to post 'grep [mpd_username] /etc/groups' for me?
EDIT2 (1 minute later): Hehe, I just noticed I didn't add myself back to 'audio'... what a muppet. Problem solved!  XD

  • Publisher 6.4 Installation broken

    Hi,
I am trying to setup Aqualogic G6 6.1 on a Windows 2003 server.
So far I have had no issues installing Aqualogic Interaction and I was able to get some initial communities setup. However when I then tried to install Publisher 6.4 I started experiencing some strange issues.
If I try to view the Publisher Administration portal I receive an messaging advising the database could not be contacted.
I checked the DB settings and as far as I can tell everything looks okay, I am able to connect with the user credentials I setup during Publisher installation and I can view the tables the Publisher installation created. I also did not experience any issues when importing the Publisher package into the portal.
I checked the log files for Publisher and found something very strange in there, Publisher is trying to connect to the database with a username that is the same as the database name!
It is completely ignoring the information that was provided during installation, instead there are numerous errors in the log file all indicating Publisher and then subsequently, Workflow were unable to connect to the database using a user id <same_as_database>.
This is obviously wrong, I have no idea why this has happened on a fresh build and I am now concerned the whole Aqualogic Installation process seems to random and inconsistent from machine to machine!
    Any ideas?
    Tahir

    Did you get this fixed?
Is this a clean Publisher install or an upgrade? I was able to get Publisher running ok on 6.1 MP1. If this is still not working, I would uninstall Publisher and reinstall it with the same db info as before. Maybe the db settings in the config file got corrupted somehow. If the Pub diag page checks out, everything should be setup ok.

  • IA64 JDK 6u25 installer broken on Win2K3 SP2

The current JDK installer on the download site (jdk-6u25-windows-ia64.exe) will not run on a 64 bit IA machine running Windows 2003 SP 2. Running the exe results in an error popup with message "The image file jdk-6u25-windows-ia64.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine." At least two of the archive JDK installers (jdk-6u7-windows-ia64.exe and jdk-6u21-windows-ia64.exe available from http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/6u21/index.html) do not have this error on the same system and install successfully. I wonder did Sun test this installer?

The error seems to occur on 32bit system trying to execute a 64bit executable.
As you have said you are already executed the the u21 and u7 64bit version already without any issues, can you check weather you have changed any properties of the u25 version like "compatibility mode" ( right click on the setup file and select properties and see "Compatibility" tab).

  • SIMPLE FIX for XP SP2 Installs

Greetings. I'll cut to the chase and won't explain here in detail what's really going on with this fix, but it has now successfully cleared a range of installation problems for iTunes 5.0, 5.01, and QuickTime 7, on two unrelated XP SP2 systems. Feel free to contact me if you want more info, but you may definitely want to give this a try if you're running XP SP2 and have been having iTunes install problems (be sure that you are logged in with Administrator privileges):
    - Click Start
    - Click Run
    - Enter in the "Open:" field: "services.msc" (without the quotes)
    - Click OK
    - Scroll down to "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)"
[ NOT "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator" ]
    - Double click on this item
    - Click the "Log On" tab
    - If the "Local System Account" selection is already
selected, this fix won't help you. If the "Local System
Account" selection is NOT selected, SELECT it now.
[ make sure that "Allow service to interact with desktop
    is not checked ]
    - Click OK
    - Close the Services window
    - Reboot
    - Try reinstall the 5.0 or 5.01 iTunes+QuickTime package
This may also fix a number of other odd XP SP2 behaviors. Good luck!

Over time I saw a range of different install problems as I continued trying to find a procedure to get iTunes 5 and/or QuickTime 7 installed on two completely different XP SP2 systems, neither of which initially had an iTunes installation (but both of which had QuickTime 6 installations).
The initial attempt at the (then 5.0) iTunes install resulted in the infamous "vanishing installation" -- the process appeared to proceed normally, but at the end no files had been installed, and the iTunes icon had only appeared for a few seconds. I eventually determined that the installer was failing silently and deleting all of the files it had installed at that point. No error messages were associated with this failure mode -- the installer's failure to be more verbose made this a much more difficult problem to attack (turning on installer logging gave more information, but was not as much help as might have been expected).
Unfortunately, the installer by that time had also mucked around with various QuickTime files and settings, leaving the original QuickTime 6 installation broken as well.
I then found it was impossible to even install the QuickTime 7 standalone, nor could QuickTime 6 be reinstalled. In all cases (even after manual attempts at uninstalling and cleaning up the partial installs, registry cleanups, etc.) the installers would abort ("interrupted") near the very end of their process, and as usual delete their new files.
iTunes 4.9 installs would also fail in much the same manners. However, I ultimately found a way to trick the system into a working 4.9 (except for CDDB support on one of the machines), using a technique that I documented on this forum some days ago.
As I dug through the various logs and errors, I became convinced that a privilege issue was at the heart of the matter -- this also fit with the sorts of changes that SP2 imposed on the system, and later MS security "fixes" that made even more changes.
This led to my researching the sorts of problems that could relate in that area, until I found discussions of a variety of problems caused by RPC-related privilege configuration errors, that can trigger many bizarre XP SP2 behaviors, including installer failures.
The procedure that I noted in the original message of this thread instantly fixed all iTunes and QuickTime installation problems on these systems. Both 5.0 and 5.0.1 installs proceeded perfectly after the change -- I did not test the change with 4.9.
This situation is the fault of both MS and Apple. MS -- for a whole bunch of SP2-related complexities and problems that were unnecessarily introduced, and Apple for apparently not noting the known issues in this area, and failing to take them into account in their installers. Apple also gets low marks in this situation for installer error reporting, and for how they've handled the situation publicly since the problems became known.

  • Python with statement is broken.

I am using the default python install which is version 2.5.1. According to the python documentation, support for the following syntax was added in version 2.5 but it does not work on the default apple python install.
    with open('filename') as f:
    for line in f:
    print line
This is supposed to open to automate opening and closing of the file. However the with statement doesnt work and I get a syntax error.
Is this normal or is my python installation broken? If it is normal is there any way to get this syntax enabled?

You need to read the rest of the documentation as support for that keyword is not enabled on versions prior to 2.6 unless you specifically ask for it.

After several hours trying to get my LAMP to work, I'm about to throw my brand new Asus M4A88T-I Deluxe out the window, with that cute quad core processor . Fare well, black box!
...But I thought about a little help from my friends. Any logs I've forgotten about will be supplied, if needed.
    Cheers
Update - I've found out that there's nothing wrong with the server. It's something wrong with CI, thus this would make a CI-specific topic. Please delete the topic.
Update 2 and solved - A fresh installation of PHP has the mysql module commented out. Uncomment it in php.ini - and it works Cheers!

  • Pear PHP Warnings [SOLVED]

I recently built a web-server and followed the arch wiki docs to complete the LAMP installation and everything ran smoothly.
However, now when I upgrade pear I get the following warnings:
    # pear upgrade
PHP Warning:  Module 'mcrypt' already loaded in Unknown on line 0
PHP Warning:  Module 'mysql' already loaded in Unknown on line 0
anyone else run into this glitch?

    Many thanks SidK!
I checked /etc/php/conf.d and found i had left behind an old custom.ini containing:
    extension=mcrypt.so
    extension=mysql.so
removed the /etc/php/conf.d/custom.ini and all is well with pear upgrade :-)

  • Regular Expressions Character Class shortcuts

I have been learning to use regular expressions to modify some of my text files. I noticed that on my ARCH box the Character Class shortcuts do not work e.g. [[:digit:]] in an expression works but \d does not. Is this normal or is my installation broken in some way?

    Bebo wrote:
There are several regexp "dialects". It's quite painful actually For instance, as far as I know, \d works in perl, but not in sed or grep.
    So, yes, this is normal.
Yeah -- Henry Spencer's regexp stuff is always generally considered the portable form for sed, awk, since they're all based from it.  Newer versions of grep though do allow for a -P flag for perl-regexps to be used, but this is non-portable, obviously.

  • Data Modeler 3.0 EA1 - Logical= Attributes & Relational= Columns missing

    Hi,
I imported Modeler 2.0 design into Modeler 3.0 EA1 and discovered that LOGICAL=>ATTRIBUTES and RELATIONAL=>COLUMNS options are no longer displayed.
Were these options removed from this new version or is my installation broken?
    Thanks

    Hi Chiedu,
they are removed. Your version is ok - at least for that :).

  • I'm unable to run AppleScript.app after upgrading to Mavericks, is this as it should be, and is there a replacement for AppleScript?

When I navigate to the Applications/Utiilities folder, and attempt to open the AppleScript editor I get an error popup with:
The document "AppleScript Editor.app" could not be opened.
Has AppleScript gone away, or is my OS Installation broken?
    Thanks,
    CraigP
Ok, so it's broken.  Any idea how to un-break it?  For example, is there Installation Media for Mavericks that I can burn and attempt a re-install with?

    Your installation is broken.

  • Shipped using Canada Post, but the package is lost? What to do?

Well around a month ago I've shipped a coin to a buyer of mine which cost her around $110, and $15 to ship.
Although the Canada Post workers told me they're unable to find the coin. What do I do?
This is the first time I'm facing an issue such as this.

My loss rate for (receiving) packages, domestic and international  is precisely 0%.   And I'm talking a lot of packages.
Lots of different venues, especially numerous baby sites the past couple of years, and they're mostly in the  US.   No issues, except one lampe berger broken due to faulty pkg'ng, and replaced by seller immediately.  (returned the rattling box without even opening it)
I opt out of insurance when possible; absolutely no value to me ( or seller).
i had to put in a claim for a missing parcel that I shipped a couple of years ago, but the delayed-somewhere Christmas gift did eventually make its way to Georgia before anything ever came of my  claim.
So, my success rate for both receiving and shipping .. 'many' packages is locked on 100%.
(which means I need to go immediately to pray to the goddess of Murphy's Law for continued success  in case I've  just jinxed myself

  • [Solved]Drupal setup

Hi all! I'm new in server applications and I'm trying to install drupal to work with it and make web-pages. I read the wiki for install apache mysql and php, but i have an dude. What is the purpose of the drupal package in the comunity repo? Because,  it install drupal on /usr/share/webapps and I have to copy them to my "Directoryroot" for apache server, doesn't it?
Maybe, someone can explain me how to setup the config in apache to launch drupal, or it's mandatory copy the drupal's directory to "/srv/http/".
    Thank's and excuse my English!!

The config will be very similar to that of phpmyadmin which is installed in the same place. I'll quote some of the steps you need to undertake. Make sure you have a working LAMP installation. Give the drupal wiki a lookover for some info.

    #deny from all

Restart httpd then your drupal install will be available at domain.tld/drupal.
