Lan card to lan card, what cable to use?

hello,
in the k7n420, have a lan card, well, its not a card, but its also lan, ethernet.  my friend says that theres this cable that would allow to connect lan card to lan card without a hub, something called cross cable.  you guys heard anything about this?
thanks,
edison

Technically, all hubs have that feature, because what a cross-over does is simulate what a hub naturally does. You may be getting confused with the uplink connection, I think.
Wow...yah, you are correct on that.  I don't know what I was thinking.

if i were to follow the color codes exactly as the diagram, then i have to fix the first terminal first then twist the wires for the second terminal?
why is that that my cable's color order is not the same, arent cables standard?
Pre-made cables sometimes use a different color code.  I don't know the reason for this.  If you want to make a crossover cable out of your cable then I would cut BOTH ends off and wire it as shown in the diagram.

and one more thing, if i were to rearrange the wires, are the wires specially made for "receving" or "transmitting"? or is it just color coding so you'd know where to pin it?
and since i did not folow exactly the diagram, because color order was not the same, i used common sense and just followed the order. could my order be incorrect, when i connect the cable, my lan lights up and my sister's laptop also lights up, when i look at the network connections, i get the lan status just like the dial-up connection status for internet.
The wires are not specifically made for sending or receiving.  However, you should follow the color code in the diagram because it follows industry standards.  There is electrical "crosstalk" that happens between the twisted-pair wires within the Category 5 cable.  The cross-talk is minimized when using the color code in the diagram.  The manufacturer of your cable chose a different coding scheme, but I am sure that you will find the same Rx and Tx patterns in the colors that they used are the same as the color code in the diagram.  If you used a different code, using common-sense, and the cable is working then I wouldn't worry about it.  The biggest problem occurs when an incorrect color code is used and the cable is a longer length.

  • What cable to use for this?

I am trying to hook up my xbox 360 to my Macbook pro, and I am unsure of what cable to use for this. Composite cables.

Hi there Dsc, i tried to do so b4, but with limited success, now the problem is like been told you, MBP is not design to accept INPUT video signals, i got something called EYETV coast me about 120$, but the resolution that XBOX accepts is much higher than MBP screen can afford, i got this message when i tried to hook it up ( the dash board came up from the xbox ): YOU NEED TO ADJUST YOUR SCREEN TO A HIGHER ADJUSTMENT BEFORE YOU CAN PLAY GAMES ON THE CONSOL or so, but thats my experience any way, if you succeeded please let me know, by the way i asked the same Q b4, just search my questions and you will see the answers on my question. hope this helped.

  • What cable to use?

I am seeking advice about which cable to use to connect my wife’s and my phones to our PC. We have a 3100 and a 3120 and our PC is running XP(SP2).
Should we use the DKU-5 or would we be better using the CA-42 cable?
    Thanks

The CA-42 seems to be the only cable supported by both phones according to this table:

  • What cables to use and SPDIF

    Hi.
I currently have an Audigy 2 Gamer running Vista Premium. I have looked through the forums, but I a just not sure what type of cable I need to connect to either coax digital or optical from my audigy. Can I use a 3.5mm to RCA from my card and will it pass all audio such that my receiver will be able to decode it like the system does from a DVD player? WIll it come over as only left/right?Otherwise, is there an SPDIF out on the soundcard? My 8600GTS has HDMI out and an SPDIF input on it and I suspect I could take a cable from the Audigy and route it to the video card. Thanks!

  • Wintel to MAC Connection -- Com1 to USB? What cable is Used?

    1. I am attempting to port data from a production machine with Com Ports into a Powerbook G4. This was previously done through the Com Ports to a Windows Box. I have migrated to a MAC and want to replicate the previous process. I am new the MAC but a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and familiar with Terminal Programs.
    2. Is there a off-the-shelf cable that connects from a Com1 Port to the USB port to access the modem in the MAC?
    3. Can a technical person recommend how this is done?
    4. Novice replies are appreciated but not helpful.

    Maggie,
If you're using a USB to Serial converter, you need to be sure the MAC has the appropriate software loaded onto it to do the USB to Serial conversion.
Go to APPLICATIONS>>>UTILITIES>>>>SYSTEM PROFILER and select USB under the Hardware section.  You should see something that says you have a USB to Serial connection.  If not, you need to instal a driver for you USB to Serial converter that should have come with the device.

  • What cable should I use to connect an old iBook G4 to a MacBook Pro in order to transfer files?

I'd like to transfer files from the iBook G4 to my new MacBook Pro.  However, I'm not a "pro" at using a computer and I'm not even sure what cable to use to connect the two laptops.  I welcome your suggestions!

The Y is FireWire and the MBP has a FW800 port. On the iBook you should find a FW400 port shaped like an arrow (see below, left pic). So for speediest transfer, you need a Firewire 400 to Firewire800 cable that will allow you to plug both Macs together (right pic).
Once you have gotten that, place the IBook in Target Disk Mode (see here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 ) and connect both with the cable. The iBook's hard disk drive will appear on the MacBook's desktop. You can either drag stuff across or use the Migration Assistant found in Utilities to ensure applications get transferred correctly.

  • 27" iMac as monitor for 8-core Mac Pro with Dual DVI card... what cables?

I have a Mac Pro 3 GHz 8-core Intel Xeon processor with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card with two DVI ports for output. One goes nicely to an external JVC monitor, but I would like to get the 27" iMac as a monitor for the Mac Pro. Has anyone heard of, or done this? What cables and connectors would be required?
    Cheers everyone.

    Actually that is only one solution. The converter is not a cable, but a black box. So you need the two cables I mentioned to make the whole process work;
Mac pro -> DVI to DVI cable -> DVI to m-DP converter -> m-DP to m-DP cable ->iMac
This article mentions the three that have come to market.
    http://lowendmac.com/ed/bashur/09db/dvi-to-mini-displayport.html
The first two are expensive and very expensive. The third does not appear to support content protection schemes, so a lot of new digital video sources would not make it to the iMac's display.

  • What cable to I need to power graphics card?

I bought a Referb 09 Mac Pro. I purchased a Gigabyte HD Radeon 6850. The Power cable that came with that card is obviously for a PC. I just need to know what cable I need and where I can get it
    Thank You for anyones help

If it's a 6-pin pcie cable just use one of the y-connectors.  Otherwise google "6-pin pcie aux power connector" for any number of sources to buy this.

It sounds like you are concerned about your Apple ID security. I would start by resetting your Apple ID password with this article:
