LAN connection fall asleep only with Native Apple application.

IMac 20' connected trough cable to a Netgear Router. Working regurarly no problems at all. If I leave the computer without touching it for less than 10 minutes, all the Apple application loose connection with internet (Safari, Mail, App store) while Firefox or Vuze for example continues to work. To restore I have to Activate AirPort anf then I can deactivate, or unplug and replug the ethernet cable. If I connect trough AirPort this problem does not show up.
When Safari loose connection, I use the "diagnose network problem" and it shows that the internet connection works regularly. I tought initially it was a Safari problem and I cleaned up cache and cronology with no success. Now I realized the problem is also showing with Mail and the new App Store.
The router is pretty new and the problem was present also with the previous one (Dlink 624GT).
Anybody can help ? It's an OS bug ? Something related with bonjour ? It does not seem like an hardware problems, since third party application work correctly.
Thanks for your support.

Nobody can help ?

  • ISight works only with non-Apple applications

So maybe this is a weird one. Since updating to 10.6.5, anything made by Apple isn't recognizing my iSight camera. Skype works, online Flash applications work...but no dice for the FaceTime beta, iChat, PhotoBooth, or iMovie. It simply states that the camera is not connected - but I know it is.
This happens on multiple accounts, and System Profiler shows that the camera is indeed connected. There are some permissions issues (currently being repaired), but none of them appear to be connected with the camera, based on location alone.
The next step is obviously resetting the SMC/PMU, but what if that doesn't work? Should I just attempt reinstalling only those applications, or is there some deeper issue going on here? (I do feel like I got a bum hard drive, which I need to have replaced while I'm still under warranty, but I don't think the two issues are connected.)
    Thanks!

    So my suggestions are:
    (1) Backup your Mac and get an appointment to have your "bum hard drive" serviced ASAP.
You are correct that the hard drive may not have anything to do with your problem. However, getting the drive fixed before a complete crash will minimize chances of losing any of your valuable files. While they are performing the warranty work, the Service Technicians can easily transfer files to the new drive from your "bum" drive that requires replacement but is still working.
    (2) If your iSight problem is the same when you get your Mac back from service, reset SMC/PMU.
    (3) If resetting SMC/PMU does not help, download and apply the 10.6.5 Combo Update:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
Repair permissions immediately before applying the update and again immediately following the restart that completes the Combo Update.

    2. And i not able to install any apps in which is compatability with iphone ios 4.2 ver.
    It says some error.

By design, the iPhone syncs or manually manages iTunes content with ONE computer at a time. Thus, it is not possible to do what you want. You need to pick one computer & stick with that computer.
You are correct, the iPhone 3G cannot be updated past iOS 4.2.1...the end of the line for that model iPhone. Thus, any apps that require a higher iOS version will not install or run on your phone.

  • ITunes won't connect to iTunes Store with my Apple ID and repeatedly crashes with "An unknown error occurred (-50)."

I've been unable to use iTunes for over 3 weeks now.
Initially, it would prompt me to Sign In with my Apple ID and password each time it tried to start, and when I clicked Sign In, it'd respond with variations of:
"Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance."
        or
        De-authorize/Authorize.
Frustrated, I'd click Cancel, and it'd crash with:
        "An unknown error occurred (-1008)."
        or
        "An unknown error occurred (-50)."
More recently, I don't even get the Sign In prompt any more. iTunes now just crashes immediately with unknown error (-50) as soon as it tries to start.
It is clear that this issue has more to do with the Apple ID than with iTunes specifically, because some of the apps I purchased directly from the App Store (OmniFocus, Fantastical and Forismatic) now prompt me to Sign In with my Apple ID and password each time they try to start, and they never did before. And when I try to sign, they respond with the error:
"Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance."
Apparently, this is an issue a whole lot of people are experiencing, judging by the long list of Google search returns on the subject; but I'm yet to find a definitive, "official" Apple solution to the problem.
My Apple ID is the same as it's always been.
If anyone knows what's really causing this and/or can offer a fix, please H-E-E-E-L-P? I'll even pay to make it go away. I abandoned Windows after 26 years, only to discover that no platform is spared the blackhole of unknown errors.

  • Wireless connection falls asleep..

So when the tv goes on standby (screensaver active, not been used for X hrs), then come back to use it, it often drops off the network. All the other wireless stuff (iBook, MBP, PCs, iPhones etc) are still running fine, and connected without probs.
So looking in the Network options, the signal strength has no bars at all, even tho the base station is on the other side of the wall. If I go to the Configure Wireless options and wait for the list to refresh, it often wakes up the wireless connection (altho sometimes doesn't work, so have to re-enter all the details), then the signal strength comes on full, and it soon restores back to normal.
Is there anything that can be done to stop the wireless card (?) falling asleep like this, and for it to just stay connected?

thanks for the suggestions. I've extended the DHCP lease and see how that goes, if that doesn't work, then I'll try the static IP.
I did have it connected via ethernet which was awesome n quick, and never a problem.. But we moved house so the new layout doesn't really allow easily for a lead to it, as much as I'd like to do that. The base station is literally 6ft on the other side of an internal wall, so no noise/distance probs..
Will see how this goes and report back in a few days!
    Cheers!

  • Known issues with native mail application

Since 3 days now, the native email application on Series 60 3rd doesn't correctly download my mail anymore.
Im using it to connectr to a gmail account via imap: all worked perfectly but now when I retreive email, it shows me a progress bar "updating email". But when its done, there is no new headers showing. The last email is still from 3 days ago and new ones are not showing.
Im confused as there is no indication of any error.it connects, shows me a progress bar etc. but it just doesnt download any new headers.
Are there any issues known with gmail accounts?

OK this is definitely being casued by Exchange mail (I'm using Gmail).
If restore the phone as new the drain stops - still at 100% in the morning.
The problem starts again when I setup an exhange account for mail. I have no push or fetch turned on. The battery then starts this gradual drain of about 2% per hour.
Is there anyone who can think why the phone is doing this - is it just mail being buggy ?

  • Java AWT/Swing coexisting with native Qt application

    Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to get a GUI application written in Java to work in a native Qt application by embedding the Java application in the Qt application.
Any suggestions on how to do this...

It requires creating a system window (possibly frameless) using a native API calls (e.g. WinAPI or Xlib). That window might be embedded in your application. You would have to send system messages to that window (WM_XXXXX on Windows and XEvent's on X).
For more information I suggest you to look at KDE sources where it is implemented for X Window (there is also a Java package, kjas which is a server for running applets in Konqueror.
Or if you have much time you could write AWT on top of Qt (there is one built with Gtk+) and give the JVM your classes instead of the original JDK.
The choice is yours. Happy Qt-ing!

  • HT1277 I'm having trouble connecting my Exchange Server with my Apple Mail product.

Per setting up the account, I'm getting email, so, I believe my Exchange IMAP is correct, but, I cannot send email to anyone outside my internal network.  The wierd thing is that when I go to the Connection Doctor (after I get the Try Again...or...Try Again with Selected Server screen), I get a green light on the SMTP Server and a red light on the Exchange IMAP Server.  Any comments would be appreciated.

    Edgar,
I highly recommend, if you live in an area where there may be overlapping WiFi networks..  use recent OS X's hidden WiFi Diagnostics utility......
Hold down the Option key, click on the WiFi icon in the menu bar and click on Open WiFi Diagnostics... This works for (maybe 10.7... cant remember..) 10.8,10.9 and 10.10.
...and check for any nearby WiFis that may be on the same channel.... and if there are, change your WiFi channel to a different one so your signal remains clear  of interference and more importantly uninterrupted... LR seems very susceptible to such brief 'breaks' or interruptions...
Personally because of where I live, there are no competing networks and I have no issues at all using LR with any of my 5 LP rigs here.. switching between them at will....
The only other item of interest that I have found when troubleshooting such issues.. is the use of non Apple Routers..... and a failure of automatic port forwarding for example...but this cause usually prevents connection altogether and not intermittent issues... Haven't come across anyone using an Airport Extreme for example.. from 2009 onwards, who has any issues connecting LR to LPX... but a number of older Netgear, TP-Link and D-Links ones seems to have this issue at times...
    Cheers..

  • Ipad2 wifi-only with non-Apple mobile phones as hotspots

Does the Ipad2 wifi-only work with Nokia E-7 as hotspot / Are there any reasons or restriction from Apple side that make such set-up with a non-Apple mobile device impossible? Thanks

I use my Samsung Mesmerize phone as a Wi-fi hot spot and I have no problem what so ever with it, it works great at my moms so we can FaceTime with my sister!  I used to pay AT&T extra for 3G, but you can't FaceTime using 3G, you have to have a Wi-fi connection, and my phone works great with it!  Plus, I don't have to pay extra for it, I never use my full 5 GB data plan.

  • Connectivity via ethernet ports with new Apple Airport Extreme pre-n router

I am still somewhat of a newbie with Macs and particularly, when it comes to network issues. I have a new Intel iMac (replacing an older G5 iMac) that attached to the wired portion of my home network via a Netgear workgroup switch and a Netgear (wireless) router. The new box is running 10.4.10. I only use the wireless aspect for two workstations on the upper level of my house (with the use of a Netgear access point) as well as for my MacBook. I was able to install the complete HP OS X drivers and software that gave full functionality to my HP7310xi including scanning.
I have always had problems with using the iChat video function (usually just a vague "communications error" message) and the only consistent solution was to connect it directly to my cable modem when I wanted to use it. A good friend suggested I should check out the new Extreme pre-n router as it may eliminate that issue.
So, without doing enough homework, I installed it and voila! The network was MUCH faster and the signal was so strong upstairs that I was able to remove the access point! And, the iChat video feature worked first time, every time including wireless-ly from my MB Pro on the patio. It's a miracle!
However, I quickly realized two major problems:
The HP 7310xi printer no longer available to the iMac, even via Bonjour nor was my son's Xbox 360. I was able to attach the printer to the USB port on the Airport, which worked but is impractical because of the geographic layout of my home office. I have poured through these forums and found lots of postings regarding these two issues but they all seem to be addressing wireless pre-n issues. I am using the Airport Extreme, in the case of both the HP printer and the Xbox, as a wired router and am wondering where I can look to find that issue addressed specifically. I have set it up as b/g compatible as well. Oddly, I was able to get more functionality via my only Windows (XP Pro) box via Bonjour than I was from the iMac.
Do I really need to build two separate networks to address these two issues?

  • I just updated my iPad to iOS7 and I'm trying to connect my FaceTime to with my Apple ID and it's tells me that "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again" but I clearly have connection when I can get on safari with no problem

I did the update On both my iPad and my phone and the phone is working just fine but my iPad is being complicated. Haha can someone pleases please please help me!!!!!!

Have you tried restarting the phone?  Hold both Home and Power buttons down until Apple logo appears and phone "reboots".
And have you tried resetting Network Settings?
Settings => General => Reset => Reset Network Settings
You will have to re-enter Wifi Passwords but it might help you get to a more solid connection on your phone.
