LAN extension Design

A Customer has a layer2 switch as the edge device, connected directly to the Metro Ethernet Provider (LAN extesnion). The Metro Network is connected to an ATM Cloud which in turn connected to another Metro area.
as follows:-
customer CPE switch A<-->SP Ethernet Swtich<--> SP ATM Switch<-->ATM Cloud<--->SP ATM Switch<-->SP Ethernet Switch<-->customer CPE switch B
My question is how the customer will configure his VLAN on the edge switch .. Can he configure any vlan ID or he has to comply/align with the VLAN mapped on the ATM VC by the provider. Please advise as it is really confusing me. Thanks

[CU CPE SW-A ->Vlan 202 - (ip range /24/22 anything] <-Trunk/Access-> SP SW<- Vlan-VC MAP/Bridge-> SP ATM SW<-->ATM Cloud<--->SP ATM SW<-Vlan-VC MAP/Bridge-> SP SW <-Trunk/Access-> [ (ip range same as in SW-A CPE) CU CPE SW B ]
The hosts can be on CPE SW-A and gateway can be on CPE SW-B.
For eg: hosts in vlan 202 in SW-A have ip in say range 10.0.0.2 - 254 - DF-GW --> 10.0.0.1
DF-GW can be in CPE SW-B in same Vlan but, and use the IP in the same range i:e 10.0.0.1 and everyone can communicate.
To keep it simple just treat your connection between CPE SW-A and CPE SW-B as normal cable connecting the switches and you have same vlan assigned to this cable at both the switches.

The Photoshop CS5 SDK includes functionality for creating interactions with Photoshop CS 5 from applications on Android™, Blackberry, and iOS mobile and tablet devices, as well as Mac OS and Windows® operating systems (an example would be the Adobe Nav app) basically the communication between an app and Photoshop. Flex extensions created for Photoshop would not automatically work with Photoshop Touch.

Need help with Campus LAN building design

Hey everyone,
I'm currently studying in a program at College call Internet Communications Technology. I am working on a final project in my Physical layer class. Basically the final project is to design the telecom closets and network infastructure for a 3 level building.
We never really covered the capabilities of certain cisco hardware so I'm looking for a little guidance in what to select.
Basically we have between 300 - 400 people on each level. So we require 1148 cables. We need an additional 134 PoE connections for our phones and WAP's I was going to VLAN each floor and then use VLANS on the floors themselves.
On the main floor we will accept the fiber from the main section of the campus for the internet access and branch that out to the other telecom closets in the building using a single mode fiber cable.
I was taking a look at some gear and this is where I am confused. I will require 1 fiber input from the campus and then I need 3 switches on each floor accepting fiber as there are 3 major areas on each floor. So each end of the floor has an auditorium with 170 people and then the middle.
I was looking at using the Cisco Catalyst 2960-48PST-L - switch - 48 ports - managed - rack-mountable for our access layer switches in the telecom closets at the end... But I'm not really sure what to use for our core/distribution gear so I believe I would need 1 router on the main floor which can do all the interVLAN routing via fiber links between floors but then I would require a router on both floors 2 and 3 for the interVLAN routing on each floor. I would then need 3 main distribution switches on each floor. The switches I'm thinking could be smaller port based like a 12 or 24 port based switch as they would really just be there for accepting the fiber link from the main router on the first floor and branching that to the other telecom closets on the floor.

Specifically see the LAN Deployment Guidefor advice on choosing the right type fo switch for the various layers.
As a general guideline, I don't see anyone these days putting in routing away from the core in a campus (nor would I generally recommend it).

LAN / Office Design

Hi All,
Not exactly sure on the best place to put this but hopefully a few of you have some advice/experience to share on my query.
Basically going to be doing a rip / replace as moving to a new office. Will be reusing a few of the 3850 switches we have, but buying more also.
Office is one floor with around 350 users in total. There is the one comms room where all the networking kit will be located and some servers/UCS
Should I be following the Cisco hierarchical model of Access / Distro / Core or look at a collapsed backbone? With this being a blank canvas would like to make it as scalable and future proof as possible.
The initial thought was to have a stack of 3850s running IPBASE as the Access Layer, and further smaller stack of 3850s with IPSERVICES running as a collapsed Core / Backbone. I've plenty experience in administering networks that are already in place, but just started on the Design side of my studies and would welcome any advice / expertise.
If I went for the above, would I have the L3 switching on the Access Stack, and a default route the up to the Core/Dsitro for getting out to the WAN?
Any pointers / thoughts welcome ;-)

Hi there,
The 3850 would be a good choice for your access layer. Since you are looking at a L2 access layer you may want to consider 2960's; less features, smaller number of stack members, but much cheaper.
Given the comparitely small user base I wouldn't entertain the idea of a L3 edge, purely on the grounds of licensing costs. You would not see enough L2 traffic on your core switches to warrant moving the MAC addresses out to the edge.
Plus with the money saved by going 2960/L2 edge, you could get a fancy 4500X core switch :)

Multipoint L2TPv3 (LAN-to-LAN extension)

Scenario: extend multiple layer 2 vlans to multiple locations (at least 3) over IPSEC.
I used L2TPv3 to accomplish this goal for a single vlan. The solution works great, but I’ve been given a new requirement to extend multiple vlans over the same physical links (point-to-point fiber).
Question: Is it possible to trunk vlans over L2TPv3? If so, is it possible to do so with sub interfaces (on the LAN side of the router), or will I need physical ports for the pseudowires/xconnects? If I can’t trunk the vlans or use sub interfaces, then I’ll end up having to use physical ports to create the pseudowire mesh (which is how I originally implemented this scenario for the single vlan). That brings me to my next, and probably most important, question:
Question: Is there a better way to approach this scenario?

You can replicate 802.1q tagged frames from one physical interface to another site or choose to use xconnect on a subinterface. It's up to you, both works.

Wired LAN extension

Hello
Can anybody help me choose CISCO devices for following?
In the image Front office is alredy wired and networked. following are the distances
Front Office - Resturant    15m
Front office - SPA   10M
SPA - BAR        25M
FRONTOFFICE -EVENTBOARD   20M
Front office- Warehouse   35m
Office to house keeping 25m
Eventhough the distances are small these locations are seperated and have pools/roads in between and fiber or UTP connectivity is not possible
Can any one tell me how to connect these locations through wireless so that exsting LAN is extended ? What are the best CISCO devices need for this?

Hi there,
the easiest way to manage all these different environment is to install a WLC (wireless controller) with some AP-1142N .. Pay attention to choose the ones that work with the WLC and not in standalone!! After this you can built some tunnel over the radio interfaces connecting the access points and deploying in this way another kind of media that is nearly equivalent to the cable.
I would check two things:
- interferences in the area (essentially you need a survey)
- refractions/diffraction/absorption of the walls/materials around
- possibility to encrypt the tunnel over radio that you would build.
Another way could be installing a router like a 1941W and to install few APs in standalone mode on a layer 3 fashion (routing the network back to the main router) or just bridged. I would use authentication and encryption in both the cases. Ad a good amount of vlan including a "guest" vlan = private vlan for who does not need to have info about the infrastructure.

LAN network design - Core/access with Cisco 6513

Hi,
I have been tasked with setting up a new branch office, with 100+ users, a stack of servers (1Gb-based) and some wireless access points, WAN block (ASA 5520 and a couple of routers.)
At the moment, port requirement is around 400.
As there's not enough space and it's only a single floor office, I'm thinking to go ahead with one of Cisco 6500 models, specifically Catalyst 6513-E, as a core and access switch. This way, there won't be any need to try to install 48-port switches around the small office area.
I'm not too sure about the pricing at the moment. It may be a better/cheaper option to go with a couple of 3750s as core/aggregation and 2960s for access switch installed all in the same rack. If I go with small switches, it would be roughly x7 48-port access switches and one stack of two 3750s, which gives about 450-60.
I believe I won't utilise half of the capacity if I go ahead with 6513, however my manager wants to minimise the overhead managing this branch office hence this all-in-all one switch option has resurfaced.
Is there anyone using this kind of similar setup in the environment? If so, can you please share your opinions?
Also, would there be a huge difference in terms of pricing?

I was just going over 4510R+E for a potential winner; It seems to have 10 slots, which gives me about 390 Gig ports, with two dual sups. Given that a single sup 8E can provide throughput as below table, I should think about going forward with a single sup.
Given that most users will be on 100Mbps at peak time and all other miscellaneous traffic, it would come down to around 20Gbps.

Datacentre L2 cluster extension

I have two datacentres, where each has the following setup. The servers connects to two 450x switches which connects to two 650x switches. This is a two-tier design since the 6506 forms the core layer of the network. I have clustered servers in the two DCs that needs a L2 LAN extension over CWDMs. Many design guides shows that i have to extend the L2 over the core since i don't have a dedicated access layer and distribution Layer. However i don't want to do this since it will lead to STP issues at the core. What would happen if instead of implementing a collapsed core, i implement a collapsed distribution layer such that the 450x switches forms the access & distribution which would connect to the 650x over L3 links. With this i would have the L2 VLAN extension over the four 450x switches in the two datacentres. I know the ultimate solution is to invest in a 3 tier design but i need this to work and to work perfectly.Kindly shed some light into this design.
In addition i have redundant L3 connections between the two datacentres connected over the 650x core switches, With this, how do you deal with the datacentre subnet that will be learnt and advertised from two different sources?

Look into using EoMPLS or L2TPv3 ... allowing you to establish L2 connectivity over a routed network.

Design view not editable or viewable for validated site

I can see the site fine at http://www.wwu.edu/atustest - it validates and is viewable in the browser and in "Live" or "code" view in Dreamweaver. However when I try to display it in "Design" view nothing shows except the header, and that is garbled. None of the content is viewable or editable. Help! I cannot deliver this to my non-coding users.

If my code challenged clients want to maintain their own site, I give them a CMS. DW is for experienced web developers. It's not for amateurs.

Crystal Report Can nt Load System.Web.Extensions Version=2.0.0.0.

I have an application that I created in ASP.NET 1.1 that I subsequently upgraded to VS2008 - ASP.NET 2.0. Whenever I attempt to run the report in the application, I get the following error
Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

Note the error is re. 'System.Web.Extensions' which is a Microsoft framework dll. I would suggest:
1) repair of the .NET installation
2) update the framework with the latest SP
3) see if you can crate a new app - without Crystal Reports using the 'System.Web.Extensions' assembly
4) see if you can create a new app using Crystal Reports (One line app using saved data report will do; crystalreportviewer1.reportsource = <path>)
5) Download the latest CR SP. As you don not mention what version of CR you are using, see if you can find the SP in our downloads section:

[MAC OS X - Illustrator CS5.1] DragDrop between Illustrator and Extension

Hi,
What I would like to achieve is to handle Drag and Drop between Illustrator and Creative suite extension (specially from Illustrator to extension, designed for Illustrator).
I would like to get a reference or a pointer on the selection / objects dropped on my extension, and then do something with the selection / objects dropped in my ex extension. Pretty much like they did in the Symbol swatch.
So, here it is the code implemented (in my POC extension):

It works. But right now, the only available in the Dragsource object is a bitmap.
I've used the debugger to check if I could find something else, but I did not.
I have also tried to use the NativeDragManager. But it is pretty much the same.
I'm stuck.
Anyone could help me?
Does anyone know if it is possible to retrieve something else than a bitmap form the dragsource object?
So any help would be appreciated.

Can you please try to run Illustrator with sudo permissions on the terminal
e.g.

I am trying to deploy my web application to a 64-bit Windows 2008 Server. I have built several web setups using both the 32-bit 10.2 merge modules and I've run the 10.5 version msi package. I receive the following error:
Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

1) Navigate to the ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 Installer Package found at ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ca9d90fa-e8c9-42e3-aa19-08e2c027f5d6&displaylang=en ) -- (We'll try this, but we have been down this same path at least once already.)
Download and install on your production server. Install and reboot the server.
This will install all required DLL files in your Win/Assemblies/ folder on your server, which is what your config file is looking for.
-- We know this will put older versions of the assembly files into the cache, but it will not put in the version that we receive the error on: 2.0.0.0. A newer version seems to only dump 3.5.0.0 into the GAC.
2) Place System.Web.Extensions.dll and System.Web.Extensions.Design.dll directly in the Bin folder of your web app.
-- (We have tried placing both 1.0.6x.xx and 3.5.0.0 version of those dlls into our site's bin fodler, and have received various errors, but never a solution.)
The bottom line seems to be that the error is calling for a dll, that Microsoft claims existed at one time, but that no one can currently seem to locate. Microsoft APS IIS Team personnell indicate that System.Web.Extensions 2.0.0.0 belong to Ajax 2.0, and that the .msi installer for that is no longer available.
We'll try the above 2 steps again, and have a look at the links below, but they seem unlikey to produce a different outcome.

Extension SDK : Where are the wizards for extension creation in JDev

I remember seeing there were few wizards in JDev 10.1.3 Preview version for creating extensions which generates the stubs (like create extension with windows etc.), but I don't see it in the new extension SDK. It only contains extension.xml file with basic properties, also it doesn't XML give insight in the extensions.xml.
Why are the wizards missing? Are they left by mistake oir by intension?
I hope having wizards for extension creation (like eclispe) will help people creating extensions. Currently we have to copy paste some extensions provided by Extension SDK and merge our code as and where required.

The Extension Manifest gallery item that's in 10.1.3 production's Extension SDK at least provides a starting point. It will generate extension.xml automatically based on values entered in the creation dialog.
There were a couple of other extension design time features in 10.1.3 preview that were pulled prior to production. This was mainly due to scheduling constraints (a number of other features had higher priority), changes to the extension SDK API between preview and production, and several bugs and design issues with the functionality.
As I mentioned, extension design time support will be expanded in future releases, and is now a priority for us. These improvements are currently targeted for the 11.0 release, but it's not inconceivable that the ESDK for 10.1.3 could be updated with these improvements too if there's enough demand.

Webserver doesnt serve

I have a virtual host called fabrikken.localhost that used to work fine. Until I either upgraded to 10.5.7 or changed the name of my computer. Thats my main suspects.
Errormessage from Safari
"Safari can’t open the page “http://fabrikken.localhost/” because Safari can’t find the server “fabrikken.localhost”
The webserver is turned on in the sharing panel. The mac has the name: MacErland
I use Virtualhost X which has two entries
1: localhost
2: fabrikken.local
The virtual host settings in httpd.conf is:

But when virtual host is enabled I cant get any file from the webserver. Not on fabrikken.local, fabrikken.lan, localhost, 127.0.0.1, MacErland.local, MacErland.lan and not the virtal hostname fabrikken.local
The server answears on 10.0.0.21 which is the IP number from the wlan. So the server is not totaly wracked.
Any tips on how to re-enable virtual hosts on the usual adresses?
