LAN-gateway question

I've missed what I surmise to be a basic yet critical step in configuring a small 891 isr. So basic that I've put off asking since Friday:
Here's the overview which might be enough to skip the long version:
I can ping and resolve WAN-side things from the router, but not from a PC connected to it. My guess is that I'm just talking to the management interface and nothing else from the PC, but don't know what to tell it to do next
(slightly) longer description
VLAN1 is the default 10.10.10.1, pc is 10.10.10.2 connected to fe7
WAN is on fastethernet8 and connected to a gateway. WAN interface addr is 192.168.10.100, gateway is 192.168.10.1
default route is 192.168.10.1
Giving 192.168.10.100 to my nic and plugging straight in to the gateway works as expected.
Going back to the Cisco switch from the PC, I can ping 10.10.10.1 and 192.128.10.100, but nothing further
I'm happy to provide more details, but I'm so new to cisco that I'm flying a bit blind.
Thanks!

Hi
This is happening because your remote site doesn't have a route for the internal network I.e. 10.0.0.0
There are two options :
1 on the other end add a route for the 10 network towards this site.
2 nat you 10 network to the 192 network on the Cisco Switch.
If you dont have to hide your lan network from remote sites I would encourage using option 1

  • LAN Design Question

Hi Team, i need some information regarding LAN Design, Please see Diagram 1 Current Setup. in which when our Core switch trunk ports are full we install 2 aggregate switches and connect both aggregate switches with core switches.
but mostly in documentation i see connectivity as mentioned in 2nd diagram with name "setup online" , where RED lines are added, i mostly see such full mesh physical connectivity.
May i know if there is any real problem in first design? where we only connect Core1 with Aggregate 1 and Core 2 with aggregate 2?
    thank you in advance.
Just to add HSRP is running on LAN side between both Core and all LAN gateway are on Core switches. and EIGRP is running between 2 routers and 2 Core switch.

Wow ... 3560G core and you want to do multiple redundant links.  One word will sum this all up:  NIGHTMARE.
On paper, you'll be able to get this right by fine-tuning STP, PVSTP, MSTP, etc.  In the real world, I wouldn't touch this scenario.  Not with a switch that does NOT support stacking.
Let's say your core is a stack of 3750G/E/X or 3650 or 3850 and your access switch are 2960S/X/XR.  If this is the case, then you'll have a pair of routers with their links going down to a stack of 3750 and from the stack of 3750 you have links going down to the access switch.
NOTE:  I'm holding back the "method" because I'm waiting for more information from you.

  • Lan setup question....

ok, this is driving me nuts, i have been scouring these forums for a few days, and cannot find any help specifically related to my problem.
heres the deal. I use a PC as my gateway/firewall. i don't trust these router units hehe
    so i have
    internet--> firewall PC/ICS server/dhcp server --> ezxs55w switch(3 pcs connected FINE)
i recently got a wireless router (model befw11s4) and want to hang it off the switch as a wireless access point. i found several good posts about router to router connections, and a few on router and switch, but most were from router to switch, not the other way.
one post said to disable dhcp, set as router, and it makes the router into a wireless switch, but this doesn't seem to work.
could someone please advise on how to make this work?
the setup i want is such
    inet->ics/firewall PC->(uplink)switch->pc's/wireless router
this all connects fine, the 3 pcs on the switch get net just fine, but the router is not getting its ip fomr the ics server, and will not pass on wireless connections for extra pcs...
    any thoughts?
i think the problem is in the setup of the ips, i have the device ip set to 192.168.0.* (ms ICS used the 192.168.0.* range, so i set it to be on this lan) but nothing passes on..
i am missing something, and cannot figure it out...
    thanks cryogen

update.... well..it's working now. i set the internet ip to 192.168.0.25, device ip to ...192.168.0.50 mode router, dhcp disabled, wireless bcast on.. my linux box with wireless usb picks it up fine...but it seemed to take a few mins hehe unfortunately i did all this at once, and something made it work, i'm not sure which...ideas? if anyone sees any glaring problems with this setup plz advise... thanks cryogen

  • Router-LAN-DNS Question

    Hi to all,
My home setup is as follows:
    DSL Modem <-> Router with 4-Port Switch <-> Mac / OS X 10.4.3
Everything works perfectly, yet in monitoring my network traffic I see regular queries for the LAN-DHCP-assigned private address of the Mac (i.e. 192.168.x.x) being sent to the external DNS server of my ISP with the standard query response: "No such name".
I would imagine that it's possible and rather desirable to have these private address space queries resolved without resorting to the external DNS server. The only question is how?
I would greatly appreciate a pointer in the right direction.

    Hi Tim,
    Many thanks for your post.
Having searched far and wide on this, I've been surprised to find so little information that exactly fits the question:
    i.e.
Why are queries for my private (non-routable) LAN address being sent to the external DNS servers?
Of course there's no shortage of material surrounding the issue, but I've managed to narrow it down to two possible solutions.
The first and simplest is, as you've described, adding relevant entries to the /etc/hosts file.
The alternative, though, involves adding a directory "/locations/lookupd/" to the NetInfo database and there adding the necessary entries for hosts. Also, the default LookupOrder of lookupd would need to be adjusted.... all much too hairy for my liking.
Anyhow, thanks again for responding and confirming the solution.
    Cheers

  • Callable VEE with LabView? / Accessing HP Lan gateways?

    Hello,
We have several years worth of HP VEE code written and are now exploring
LabView as a new development tool. HP VEE provides something called
"Callable VEE" which loads a server and allows any program which can
"access C routines" to call HP VEE's userfunctions. Has anyone had
experience implementing such a hybrid? Can examples be found anywhere?
While this is probably not the best solution it would give immediate
access to a lot of proven code. Are there any better solutions to
accessing the HP VEE code base?
Also, there are currently several Lan <--> GPIB gateways installed. Is
there any way LabView can access these lan-drops to access the test
    equipment installed there?
    Alternatively,
is it possible to set up a computer with LabView as a
test site and have others log on to it over the lan and access all local
resources (serial ports & GPIB devices) remotely (without having to use
Timbuktu) ? Any examples or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    joel

LV has a node called the Call Library Function Node that can call
functions within a DLL. If the VEE object looks like a DLL, then
it should work. I'm not aware of any examples laying around, but
I do know of organizations that use both; so they might be good
places to start. I know that JPL uses both.

NI sells an Ethernet-GPIB device that I think is similar. The device
comes with drivers that make it look just like any other GPIB device
hooked to the computer. If the LAN/GPIB device has drivers, then it
should be possible to hook it into LV. It is probably access normally
through HP-VISA drivers. You might want to search the Knowledge Base
on the NI web site to see if there are any guiding instructions there
on whether to use the NI-VISA drivers instead.

It is currently possible to write smallish LV client programs that
talk to a LV server program to carry out the I/O. The programming
to do the client server stuff is quite easy using the VI Server.
It is also possible to write the client in most other tools and
communicate to LV over DCOM using the VI Server's ActiveX interface.
The interface publishes a class to the EXE to load VIs and make lots
of other changes, and another class to a VI that allows for Running,
printing, and lots of other changes. Remote interaction without
doing the client/server stuff isn't currently possible, but it was
demonstrated at NIWeek working in web browsers.

  • Simple LAN setup question

Just got a new MBP 17incher, and I love it!
I simply want to be able to network my MBP when home via LAN to my PC desktop to access the 3 terabytes it contains of music and movies.
I went to the network properties on the MBP and set it to ethernet and manual so I could assign the IP 192.168.1.20.
Upon connecting the cable I lost my wireless connection... is there a way to keep my wireless connection but setup a smb share or something that would specifically use the gigabit port to access with windows machine as it is WAY faster using LAN.?? (crossover cable or direct connection is best)
please be possible other wise i'm gonna have to start punching holes in the wall to run cable down stairs to the router.

  • No loopback interface in the default rc.conf + gateway question SOLVED

I finally got around to updating my rc.conf to the current version and two questions occur to me.  I should probably have noticed them before now, but I didn't. My bad.
    (1) There is no "lo" in the model interfaces staza.  I have never run a system on which ifconfig did not show a "lo".  Do we omit it now for a reason which it would be helpful for me to understand?
    (2) In the model we also have :
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
Why would one declare default gateway, only to disable it?  Putting it more generally, why declare any route, only to disable it, except perhaps as a temporary measure?
    TIA

  • H323-gateway question?

Can I establish two H323-gateway above the same voice gateway(one device)?

Or maybe you'd like to have 2 IP addresses to receive the call via H.323? if this is the question, based on my knowledge, the answer is NO.
H.323 is binded to one interface only: calls can flow via any interface but destination is always the same. you even have the power to force the ip address signaling gateway using the bind address command. please check the following link:

  • E-Commerce Gateway Question about Interface File Definition.

    Hello Gurus,
Does anyone know if Oracle e-Commerce Gateway (11.5.10.2) deliver the Interface File Definition for Inbound Purchase Orders (850/ORDERS) - _'IN: Purchase Orders (850/ORDERS)'_ out of the box?
I see Interface File Definition for OPM Purchase Order along with a bunch of other trx sets (like ASNI, INI, INO) but not Purchase Orders (850/ORDERS) in the instance that I am working... so just wanted to verify.
    Thanks

Following are some of the pros of using XML Gateway:
    1) XML is being accepted and more and more technologies are moving towards XML, so that "seems" to a future ready solution
    2) XML processing is real-time.
    3) Most of the maps for universally accepted standards are seeded in Oracle.
    4) You can use Oracle Supplier Network(Free service provided by Oracle) with your XML gateway to transmit/receive xml documents to a supplier who may or may not be accepting the format you are generating(e.g. if your PO is in OAG standard and your supplier is accepting cXML format, OSN takes care of translating your document)
You might want to consider these points while deciding the technology.

  • SOS~!!!About OWSM Gateway Question

    Hi,
I've used the OWSM (SOA SUITE 10.1.3.1-linux)to do the following:

  • Switching from wireless (Airport) to wired (LAN)- three questions

Perhaps I'm not doing this right, but...
    1. When I'm on a wireless connection and logged in to my peer-to-peer networked desktop, then plug in to the wired connection, the system freezes (spinning wheel) for about a minute if I try to turn off the wireless connection before telling me the network connection has been broken. This begs a second question. You can try this at home on just about any laptop running OS X 10.3 +
If I remember to manually disconnect/log off the network machine (and later reconnect it on the wired path) then all is cool.
I suspect therefore that my MBP cannot switch between the connection paths for a logged in connection. Is this true?
    2. Is there a way to administer whether and which connection (en0 or en1) is used for certain programs (for example, by the port number allowed in each mode?), in addition to their prioritization in the Network Preference panel? In Windows XP settings of which network connection is used for a given service is supported, but without priority.
    3. While the MBP can 'see' two connections, it can only 'use' one of them at a time. Is this correct? How can you tell in that case where there are two network connections, which one is being used?
My reason for needing this feature of assigning a particular port connection is that my backup program, Retrospect Backup, doesn't want two network connection paths in use for itself (on it's port connection).
Two paths assigned to the same client cause all kinds of havoc when that program can see two appearances of the same client machine.

Haven't been using OS X long enough yet. (1-2 months)
    3. Open the "Network Utility" located at "Applications" "Utilities" the first screen allows you to check info on the network connections. On my MBP (en0) is the Ethernet and (en1) is wireless, select a connection and check the bottom. Watch the "Sent Packets" and "Recv Packets" to see where the data is coming and going.
I have a desktop with Windows Vista with a shared folder with my media files. If I connect with a wired connection OS X doesn't see the share, but the wireless connection will. If I connect the wireless and Ethernet and stream video to my laptop the packets come over the Ethernet connection. It won't connect over Ethernet, but the files come over it, so it seams to be able to use both. Hope fully one of the pros on here can help you more.

  • Simple LAN Design Question

    Hi All,
I am trying to design a small LAN using 3 Extreme Summit switches as access switches, all L2 only, 1 Cisco 6509 as core/distribution, and 1 Cisco 3825 router for WAN access. There are 3 VLANs required, 1 on each Extreme switch. What is the best way to connect everything?
I have been considering creating trunk ports on the 6509 to each Extreme switch. Then enabling routing on the 6509. Does it make sense to trunk even though I only have 1 VLAN going across the trunk? Is there an alternative?

... if asked 'should I trunk between switches' I'll never understand why people refrain from trunking just because the dont need it at the moment. One aspect often overlooked is the ability to transport Layer2 QoS designation inside the .1q tags. Another alternative is the enabling of DTP (dont know if Extreme has this feature). If used wisely - considering the LAN-security implications - its a great feature.
We buy and sell Cisco equipment with a bunch of world class features - and dont use much of 'em. Most of these features are even tought at the CCNA level.

  • PIX515E and simple LAN setup question

    Hello all,
I am trying to setup an Cisco PIX 515E.
Outside interface is connected to internet.
Inside interface is connected to inside private LAN.
I am able to use http traffic from inside LAN. However, I have problem with DNS and Ping.
I can not ping inside FW interface from LAN clients (this is also GW for LAN clients), because LAN address is NATed to outside interface address. ( I see this with debug icmp trace)
I can not ping outside addresses from LAN clients. When debugging icmp at FW, I can see ping request is received back to FW, but not from FW to client.
DNS is not working. DNS server is public IP address. It seems DNS querys is not passed through FW.
Basicly, I want to access internet through PIX FW. Can anyone give me some tips what to do here?

Its not the outside interface I want to ping, Its outside hosts on the internet I want to ping through outside interface.

  • 4402 LAN Controller - Questions

    Hi
We have 4402 LAN Controller an our existing 5 stanalone AP will be configure with LC.
Is it possible to have Multiple SSID as,
    DATA-ssid
    VOICE-ssid
    GUEST-ssid
&& with strong security with different keys for each ssid
    Authentication for DATA-ssid through 802.1Q
We also plan to have IP-PHONE soon and would be integrated with VOICE-ssid ; sadly it woul be Nortel IP Phone.
    I hope no integration issues.
    Thanks
    ST

You bet, we're currently running 8 BSSIDs on our APs at different sites, in fact you'll probably want to tie each SSID to their own VLAN as well.  If you're planning on using VoWL (Voice over Wireless LAN) you may want to see if those phones support WMM (essentialy Wireless QOS).  More info on WMM can be found here: https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/solutions/Enterprise/Mobility/vowlan/41dg/vowlan_ch2.pdf.
Also, you can authenticate data via dot1x as well.  What's cool is that if you're running ACS 5 then you can set WMM levels and VLANs based on criteria and have one SSID for a variety of purposes.  What version of code are you running on the 4400?
    Hope this helps

  • Consume SAP Netweaver Gateway Web service in Windows Mobile 6.5

    Hi All,
I am using Netweaver Gateway Webservice in Windows Mobile 6.5 platform. I know if need to make POST request, first i need to make GET for fetching CSRF token and then passing the CSRF token again with POST request to do the create operation. So i have used the below syntax. But it is always saying as 403 forbidden status while making POST request. I had successfully fetched CSRF token in my get request. Is there any help available for the below syntax?
    HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(new Uri("http://hostname:8040/sap/opu/odata/APLX/ST_GRRF_TS_01/Headers"));
