Lan issues with the K8N NEO4 Platinum NF4U 939 Motherboard

New K8N NEO4 Platinum NF4U 939 Motherboard.
After three or four hours the connection started to get unstable.  I am a high end gamer and any net slowdown I see and feel.
Using my "Ping Plotter" program i saw the issue.  The first hop to my router was going from 0 to 47ms.  On all of the other conputers on this network hop one stays at 0.
In looking at the over all ping to my game server I noted that when hop 0 went to 47 it messed up all of the other hops and made the connection to my game server unstable.
The odd thing is I bypassed the onboard nic's and installed a PCI nic and it did the same thing.
I got with MSI and they had ne updare the NVIDA drivers.  This lowered the swing to 0-17.  I removed the PCI lan and am now back with the onboard nic.  I have replaced the DSL modem, cable and removed the dlink and the issue is still the same.
This is my first computer with XP and at this point I do not know if this is an XP issue or a driver issue.
In installing a pci nic some of the network control is still done on the motherboard so that does not rule out a motherboard/chipset driver issue.
I have set up a web site that shows screen shots of the ping plotter.  Please take the time to look at them and tell me what you think.

Hello !!
Please give more information about your system specs.
But i would try the following:
Download the latest nforce and vga drivers from nvidia ( if you are using nv VGA card ? ). Google for "driver cleaner" and download it.
Restart system and press F8 to enter safe mode. Now uninstall all nvidia drivers(chipset & VGA), and run Driver Cleaner after it. Select the nvidia tabs and remove them....
Now reboot, when prompted to install new drivers cancel this process. And start nvidia chipset driver setup, install all drivers but do not install the IDE driver from nvidia, you will be prompted for this.In first attempt you should not install nvidia firewall. Restart and install VGA drivers. Now test again your network connection. I hope it helps....

  • X2 3800+ (E6) support for the K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI

    Hi everyone:
I have decided to purchase the K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI (MS-7100-020) and I ready placed the order.  However, I wonder if it supports the AMD X2 3800+ (E6 Version) CPU?  The reason I asked the question because I found the following table from the Taiwan MSI web site which shows that X2 3800+ E6 is undertesting.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=641&kind=1
    Thank you for any replies.

Mine worked, ran for 2 weeks already at stock, tried & ran to 2.2GHz on stock HSF with no problem.
    Using X2 3800+ E6, MSI K8N PLI Platinum mobo, 3.7 bios & Inno3D 7800GTX single latest nvidia 78 drivers, 2x512MB DDR400 CL2.5 Kingston Ram, Hitachi T7K250 Sata 250GB HDD, NEC ND-3530A Benq 1640, , Silverstone Zeus 650W PSU
At first I have this concern too, but tried it anyway.
See my screenshots for your info.

  • Can I put an old 20GB IDE HD into the K8N NEO4 Platinum Board ?

I was just wondering if you can install a old Maxtor 20Gb IDE hard drive into a brand new system built around the K8N NEO4 Platinum (MS-7125) and used it in conjunction with a brand new Maxtor Diamondmax 10 SATA150 80Gb hard drive, for a total hard drive space of 100Gb ?
if it possible for new sata and old ide hard drives to co-exists in the same system ?

    Quote from: syar2003 on 23-January-06, 05:00:53
Yes , you can do that .
Only advise is to put the old udma66 disk on it's own ide cable .
You would want to install th OS on the sata drive , make sure not to have the ide disk connected during install
or it will host the OS system files and become the system disk (default win installer choice to take the first drive it sees , and
ide is always prior to satas in bios).
Then after OS is all setup , shut down and connect the remaining disks .
So the procedure would be, to install the sata drive first, the optical drives in IDE secondary and when everythings done, the old 20Gb drive in the primary IDE, its that the way of it ?
what do you mean by "put the old udma66 disk on it's own ide cable" ?

One place it said: Online Ver. 3.77.000   One place it said:  Online Ver. 1.D0
The system now displaces a new Bios boot screen and the boot up number is now 5.2.16.
XP all up to date and LAN drivers up to date.
I am seeing a saw tooth ping to my WestTel DSL modem. On all of the other PCs here on my LAN the first hop is always 0ms.  After updating the mother board bios and turning on the LAN memory I still get 0ms to 7 or 10 ms.
You can see more detals at http://webviper.com/LanIssues.htm
Any Ideas please email me at [email protected]

Sorry the system did not email me.....
I did update the BIOS and I used the liveupdate.  I also updated the NVIDA drivers with a link that MSI sent me.  This did help things out a lot but the issue is still there.  I have updated the web page with more info and pics.  I have disabled the Xp firewall and have hooked the pc up to the westtell dsl modem.
After a reboot things run fine for about three hours...  Then it starts and get worse as time goes on.  It is not a heat issue as my new case has 10 fans and the read out of the CPU is good!   34C
Thanks for the help.... Here is some more data...  Do look at http://webviper.com/LanIssues.htm

  • Issues with K8N Neo4 Platinum Socket 939 and Athlon64 3000+ Venice

Hello everyone, I am planning a long overdue upgrade of my system. Right now I'm looking at the K8N Noe4 Platinum (non SLI) mobo with a Athlon 64 3000+ Venice CPU.
I haven't seen any posts saying NO DON'T PUT THESE TOGETHER but then maybe I've missed something. Any comments would be appreciated, if you know if any problems that seem common between these two please let me know. Thanks!

there is no problem with them.Just make sure if you can that it will come with the latest Bios that full support Venice core.If not ,then it is easy to update it afterwords.
Just also make sure that with you upgrade that you will have a real good PSU more than 450W or/and with 26-35 A on the +12V rail.

  • How are some guys running an Athlon 3800+ X2 chip on the K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI?

I see many people running an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2 Dual Core proccessor on a K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI board, but mine dosen't work.  I don't get any signal to my monitor (don't know if this is the cause).  MSI says the 3800+X2 dosen't support the SLI board, but many people got it to work.  Any one know how?

Mine working fine, but on cold boot, sometime it hang on me. I have changed 3 PSU to get it stable, from Coolermaster 450W, Be Quiet 520W to Silverstone 650W, ambient 25C, CPU 30C, Proc 37C.
Bios 3.7 the one they are still testing.
Have you check you PSU rails volt., disable CnQ,....
So far stable, multiple programs at once with no significant drop in responseness & speed,  Half Life 2, P2P downloading x2, IE x 3, encode DVD at the same time.

    Greetings,
Can anybody tell me if they have configured the Thermalright XP-120 heatsink with an MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Mainboard. I intend on fitting the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU. I need to clarify if the heatsink/fan will impact on populating the DIMM slots, or any other aspect of configuration.

The hype was these boards would be available at the begining of December, and that, after some minor delays/setbacks.  I've been playing with parts ment for the NV4 based systems since the begining of December.   MSI used to send me test boards direct from Taiwan to debug and stress--hell, I couldn't even get them to answer emails let alone send a test board.

  • Slow Boot problem with New K8N Neo4 Platinum HELP

    Hello,
I just set up my new rig, the system specs are..
    amd64 3500+
    K8N Neo4 Platinum PCI-E (non SLI)
    2x80gb SATA (insockets 5 and 6) Silicon
    2x512 ram generic
    BFG 6800 Ultra OC
    antec 550 truepower
The entire install went well.. It zipped through windows98... But when it tired to Boot windows98.. it went really really slow.. The animation bar at the bottom was chugging.. like lagging.. and took well over 10 minutes to fully load..
I check RAM was not it.. re-connected.. was not it.. new SATA cables.. no idea any help would do.. getting impatient and tired =O must get it up tonight!

Don't know if you or many people have seen this it's appeared over the last few days K8N Neo4 Platinum  -  NOTE: NVIDIA nForce 3/4 Series board DO NOT support Windows® 98/ME
There are people running 98 but my own understanding was that 98 could only use a sata drive as a data drive & could not be installed on a sata drive. Where have you installed it ???
see Win 98SE IDE problem.... Has anyone worked it out yet?

  • Multiplier question on the K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Heyas!
I've got a problem.. I want to run 250 HTT so I can get some bad ass prestanda out of my ram (crucial pc4000 ballistix), but with my AMD 3500+ 90nm, whose multiplier is set to 11x in stock, that is not possible without everything getting really unstable. ANd from what I know and hear from everyone these CPUs are locked up but not down. therefor it should be possible to lower the multiplier to 10.
Now to my question.. I cant find where I do this in BIOS! And I think I've looked everywhere and read the manual for this mobo and everything, but I still cant find it. So, does that option even exist? Is there some special thing I have to do? Cause honestly, I think this is a great motherboard (exept maybe for the possible volt you can give the RAM ) but if there is not an option to lower the multiplier I would be really disapointed, especially since I've heard so many good things about the overclockabiliy of this board...
But I would really apriciate any help about how I lower my multiplier! (And personally I belive I just missed something really stupid hehe).
    Anyway, thanks in advance!

The CPU is most certainly adjustable DOWN. Unless you have a corrupted bios, the multplier setting is right above the Adjust CPU Voltage setting. I think it's titled Adjust CPU Ratio and is default to Startup.
The NF4 voltage is, as you said, for the North Bridge chip. I have seen my best results in keeping it set for 1.60 until I have set the FSB over 270, then I have had to set it for 1.70 to get it stable up to 305 FSB. (Please note that I have the 219 max POST problem on two boards, these settiings are being done in the OS with ClockGen).
One of the weird things about the MSI Neo4 is the implementation of the HTT ratio. Even though it can help in getting the board to POST at higher FSB settings, It doesn't seem to be correct once you check the setting in the OS with a third party monitors such as Sandra, CPUz, or CBId. Also the vcore is incorrect in the bios. It appears, at this time, that the vcore is limited to a little below 1.55v regardless of bios setting. For instance, the newest bios for the SLI version has a max of 1.450 main setting, with a overvolt setting of 9.9%. Now, that would mean that the voltage would be 1.6v. But in reality, it will only give 1.52-1.55 (yes, that much instability and undervolt). I have had two MSI  SLI boards that do this. The older versions of the bios are even worse with the combined settings over 1.7, but still would never see over 1.52-1.55. Definitely a problem. If the board just goes to 1.55, then there shouldn't be a 1.6-1.7 setting. What makes things worse is if you try to force over 1.55 with the bios settings, it gives you an unstable vcore as shown above. Now, if you set the vcore for 1.45 and the lowest overvolt to 3.3%, the vcore, as monitored in the OS, will be fairly stable (less fluctuations), BUT, that only gives you 1.5v, certainly not enough for a decent overclock. Can the vcore issue be fixed in bios? Well, they can release one that has settings only to 1.55. But can they add higher vcore capability in bios? That remains to be seen as it very well may be a hardware limitation.

  • Having problems with my K8N Neo4 Platinum board

    Hi,
I'm at a loss of trying to figure out what is the problem, my computer comes on by itself and I'm not sure if it's a hardware problem or bios or maybe a virus.....anyone came across this problem before?

Quote from: Stick on 14-June-05, 16:38:06
You can thank Bill Gates and his precious team for the gorgeous software that they have created. If you didn't know, Win is automatized to such a high degree, that it can do things by itself. Probably the OS thougth that this is a neat feature that you're missing out onto, and decided to show you the path to enlightenment
This is not correct. It is the PROM's on the network card that is configurated to enable wake on lan function. The best thing to do, is to go into your bios and select enable network PROM og network BIOS (depending on what it says), Then you'r settings will be saved, in case you reinstall windows/formats etc. This is not a windows issue, just the standard settings for the network card as it comes from the manufacturer. Bill Gates is not to blame...

  • IDE Issue on MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum

I just rebuilt my computer over the weekend and everything has worked fine with the new setup except my 2 CD Drives. I have a Pioneer DVD-ROM Drive (Primary) and a Sony CD/RW (Slave) connected to the IDE2 position on the mother board via the same IDE Cable and every time I try to insert a disk and run it from My Computer I receive a Blue Windows Screen citing a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. I have 2 HDD connected in the same fashion but have not had any issues with them. When I installed the BIOS that came with the motherboard off of the CD I did select the MSI IDE Drivers and that's the only thing I can think of that would cause this problem, but why only the CD Drives and not the hard drives if they are configured the same way?

i had the same problem with a dvd drive. The dvd's didn't play right etc.
One time the cd drive caused a MACHIE_CHECK_EXCEPTION too, but only that time.
I gave the dvd drive for testing, nothing came up but i replaced the drive anyway and since then no problems. I have the nvidia drivers on and all. It's probably not your drivers. Maybe it's something with your drives, the cable or the IDE connector.
The IDE2 connector of mine didn't recognise any drive correctly.I took it out of the box to check and now it works fine. Maybe it's being grounded.
But as i said i changed the dvd drive and it's all fine.
As for the hdd-cd/dvd combinations you're recommending, it's really a matter of the pc's case, cause for example in my case could never hookup a cd/dvd and an hdd cause the cable is not long enough.THey can't be placed one below the other...

  • Major problems I am having with the K8N neo platinum:(:(

    Hiya all,
I bought this K8N motherboard two weeks ago and at first I seemed very happy with it, but when fulfilling the final steps in the installation of my PC(being installing of all my important games, voice over IP software, firewalls, security etc)I started noticing some very very disturbing things.
First of all, my onboard sound is totally unusable for online gaming, my microphone cannot be set up no matter what combinations of options I use. The sound is just messed up. When i and my friend enter our ventrilo server and he starts speaking he hears himself 10 times in an echo, and its not him thats causing this its me. When another friend joins and i leave all is just fine(hence i am the cause). Also to try and fix this problem i bought a soundblaster live 5.1. I can install it under windows XP but for the life of me I cannot get my microphone to lit up my ventrilo voicechat thus my voice is not recognized and not processed, so this then also does not work, 2 methods to get voice over IP working and none of them work??? I will award MSI the nobel price of irony for that.
Secondly, all punkbuster related online games have become totally unplayable. At first I got very annoying freezes every 2-3 minutes, it lasts a few secs and then i can play on for 2-3 more minutes until it happens again, and again and again....... Now I fixed that particular problem by downloading specially modified Call of Duty 3.9 ATI catalyst drivers but the fun doesn't stop there. Now when I play games I get strokes of extreme choppyness in an online game like Enemy Territory. When setting my fps to a steady 76fps and seeing it stay that way and knowing it can easily stay stable even at 100fps is what I find very very weird. So my comp runs very smooth, but lo and behold there is still choppy performance, other players struttling ahead as if all of them have major lag(while all sport pings of ~20-40).
When I then start shooting its even more difficult to get a good aim cuz they lag and one time they are here, the next they are in an entirely diff spot and my shooting certainly doesn't help to decrease the choppyness:) Its not allways this bad but every game I play has these bad spells, sometimes the entire game, sometimes only half the time depending on whats happening onscreen I guess.
Now with my Pentium 4 2.8Ghz and my exact same radeon I did not have any of these problems, its a slower comp but it still runs these online games 10x smoother??? I have noticed however that it is indeed mainly related to punkbuster or opengl related games. And as far as I can tell, only ATI suffers from it, since my friend who has exactly the same setup as me runs supersmooth with no lag whatsoever. All he has diff from me is his graphics card, which is nvidia???
Am I now forced to shell out another 300$ for an nvidia based card that matches the speed of my 9800 pro?? This whole buying of the MSI has grown into quite the ordeal.
Thirdly, I am also noticing some strange temps on my CPU, i have a zalman CPS7000A-alcu and it should cool better than stock, but after 4 reseats and applying of AS5(applied according to their instructions on site)it still gives me temps of 59°C at full load????? I find this really really high, and I do know i applied the paste very very good. I can tell cuz after I reseated it a few times each time you can clearly see how good it has spread towards all the edges. And its a fine thin layer, so no probs on my end. I am doing all this by the book and with greatest care.
As I am a clanbase player, and a very good one at that, I am seriously hampered in my gaming experience. While I used to get killed/deaths ratios of on average K:60-90+ /D:11-20 on my P4 for Enemy Territory I now have a very hard time even getting on K:50 D:32 each level. This is a serious dent in my budget as well since now for sanctioned events I will have to buy a new comp just to be able to play to my old standards:(:(:(
I have reached a point where I cannot do anything anymore, I have asked many questions already(ATI, Punkbuster, Nvidia, MSI), and all i get is standard set up mailing lists with what I could do. If this is customer support then plz crown me Sultan of Brunei, cuz I can do it like this too. Is this adressing a problem, eeerm I think mr Spock after looking at it logically would not even deem this worthy to an answer, since its that obvious.
So basically noone is willing to help, they are very willing to grab your money but when it comes to support all you get is a cheap script saying, when mail sent to [email protected] send "Standard mailing list A" back, when mail sent to [email protected] reply with "standard mailing list Ç", etc etc.
Sad very sad how they treat us poor dumb customers these days,
    Regards,
    A disgruntled MSI buyer
PS : I said above this problem is mainly related to ATI based cards but when you try to tell me i should try new drivers then plz don't go there cuz I tried everything from omega to iota and nothing works, the only thing that even stops the freezing is the specially modded drivers some dude fixed up. But it still leave me with crappy performance.

If you would like to submit a list, numbered (1, 2, 3, 4) with problems and your complete configuration, I'd be happy (along with others) to go through and find the problems for you.
If you just want to post a rant with "MSI Sucks" and admit your a chump for doing a stupid thing like buying an MSI boar: Then just return it please. Save others the trouble and get your money back.
That way you are happy, and don't have such a high stress level.
