Lan messenger for Solaris 10 for Sparc server

Hi
Is there any Lan messenger for Solaris 10 for Sparc which can be run on Thin client using sunray 3.1.
Clients need to use messenger using their thin clients.
help in this regard will be highly appreciated
Regards
Thanks

is there a client for YM phone on Solaris??
I use Yahoo phone as my only phone and Win XP somehow refuses to work even after 4 re-installations and does not even show my network adapter. So, if I can find sth to work with Yahoo phone Solaris will be the only OS I need.
BTW the nge0 works fine on Solaris and I am posting this from opensolaris.
thanks everybody.

  • Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.1 - cannot config vsw0 in Solaris 11

Any tips for getting it to work with Solaris 11? I tried following the steps outlined in Administering Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.1, but it fails on the "ifconfig vsw0 plumb" command with:
ifconfig: cannot plumb vsw0: Object not found

S11 networking has "vanity naming" enabled by default (so things are named net0, net1, etc) - if you run 'dladm show-phys' you should be able to work out which one is from the vsw device.
Note: unlike on S10, with S11 you don't need to plumb the vsw in order to get connectivity between the guests and the control domain.

  • Oracle VM Server for SPARC MIB for Solaris 11 Not available

    Hi,
From the 2.1/2.2 Release Notes - The Oracle VM Server for SPARC MIB software is only available on Oracle Solaris 10 systems.
Anyone know when MIB software will be available on Solaris 11 ?

We're on it (7082776 RFE: Need LDoms MIB support on S11), coming in next release.

  • VM Server for SPARC - Solaris OS Licensing

I'm about to buy a new Sun SPARC T4-1 sever. This comes with Solaris 11 and Oracle VM for SPARC. Oracle have advised me that installing Solaris 10 in place of 11 is allowed and supported.
Do I need to purchase an additional Solaris licence for each Solaris virtual machine we want to run on this server? I have tried to look this up on the Oracle website and not found any useful information in this regard.
I want to consolidate different applications and Oracle databases running on a Fire v240 running Solaris 10 and an 280r running Solaris 8 onto the new server. At present I'm undecided as to whether Zones or VM Ldoms are the best way to achieve this. If we use VM for SPARC I would probably want to run two Solaris 10 virtual machines.

Licensing and Support is per system not per VM so you wouldn't incur any extra costs adding extra VMs to an existing system that is compliant but as per https://edelivery.oracle.com/EPD/FAQ/get_form?ARU_LANG=US#e11 you'd need to contact Oracle for a categorical answer to Licensing, etc.
Note: it needn't be a choice between Zones and LDoms - you could use both, with a number of Zones within a domain...

  • Oracle VM Server for Sparc

I am going ahead with the Oracle VM server for Sparc in the next 6 weeks.  Just one question I want to be sure of - do I put the OS of the base machine in the NetApp and NFS mount it or the base machine OS on local disk  and all the LDOMs OS on NFS mounted on NetApp.  I want to create a pool of two machines one with  2 T5-2  servers in it and another 4 T5-220 servers in it.  My intention is to move LDOMS from one machine to the other within a pool, depending on the load.

Thanks Marcel.  Sorry for the delayed reply as I was away.  Yes, I did mean the control domain, but I also worried that NFS mount on NetApp may not work for LDOMs, as I read somewhere that Solaris does not support containers on NFS.  I am a bit puzzled over here, as this means we may have to go for iSCSI route for all the VMs.  iSCSI is untested in our Solaris environment, although heavily used on other things on NetApps.  We also don't have any options but to use NetApps, as NetApps are being used in our two datacentres and it would be ideal for DR scenario.

  • What all Operating System are Supported on Oracle VM Server for Sparc ?

    hi,
Does Oracle VM Server for Sparc Support's Solaris OS of different version
or it also supports linux & windows OS also...
    thnaks in advance....

The modern SPARC platform ( sun4v ) is locked in Solaris. No chances for open-source OS'es like Linux or *BSD.
This is because the important hardware documentation is closed ( known only to Sun / Oracle engineers ). For example:
      *  virtualization features of CPU are documented only at hypervisor-call level (part of Sun servers' firmware), and only partially.
      *  CPU errata are closed ( Some errata for old UltraSPARC III were opened during OpenSolaris project, but that's all).
      *  crypto features ( SPU and MAU ) are closed.

  • SQLPlus and SQLLoader needed for Sparc Solaris 2.6

    Hello,
for a test i need the two Oracle utilities SQLPlus and SQLLoader
    for Sparc Solaris 2.6.
Is there a test version available ???
    Thanks for information.

    hai Alan,
Let me specific on the problem.
I developed a fail-over software for Linux servers(need 2 servers of same configuration). In this servers ,there are two modes , Active and passive mode. At a time one can be active, and other passive. Clients can communicate the with the servers through a common alias ip address. But the actual ip address of servers can be different.Normally Active server would be having the alias ip.
When switching take place from active to passive mode, server will be assigned with its actual ip address. When switching takes place other passive server becomes active and its get common alias ip address.?
This is the actual scenario . And fake is used in Linux to refresh the arp table of immediate switching device.
But i came to know that solaris os would do it normally when it switches .?
    Is this possible with solaris.?

  • VM Server for SPARC (LDOM v2)

I posted this thread under the Solaris Development forum but that may not be the right place. Hopefully I am posting this in the correct location...
I am trying to locate an API for interacting (read CRUD) with Oracle's VM Server for SPARC (LDOM v2). I found a few references HERE that pointed to a few libraries such as libuuid and liv12n; however, these do not appear to offer anything substantial (e.g. trivial queries about chassis serial number). To rephrase the question, how do I programmatically create, read, update, and delete Logical Domains? If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be fantastic.
    Thanks, Dave

The stable interface for doing this is the XML XMPP Interface provided by the LDoms Manager daemon (ldmd) - this is how 3rd party Apps, etc do it.
Appendix D in the Admin Guide give examples of the types of messages you could send to ldmd.

  • Hardware recommendations for learning Solaris Cluster on Sparc (at home)

On a low budget, I'd like to put together a Solaris Cluster on Sparc (at home). At "work" in the next year we will be implementing a Solaris Cluster to run Tomcat and a custom CORBA server. (These apps will be migrated from very old hardware and VCS) The CORBA server is a Sparc binary, hence the need for Sparc. I'd like my home-office cluster to be similar in function to what I have at work. At work we have (2) T5120 Servers and a 2540 (2500-M2) Array waiting. From looking at the Solaris Cluster docs, it looks like you use a 2540 in a Direct-Connect configuration. We will be going to Solaris Cluster training eventually, but not soon. In the meantime, I'd like to keep/gain some skills/experience.
    Potential (cheap) Home Cluster:
    (2) SunFire V245 or (2) T1000 or (2) something_cheap
    connected to
    (1) Storedge D2 or (1) Storedge S1
My main desire, is for the interconnects and failover on this Home Cluster to behave the same way as the T5120s with the 2540 Array. Example, if I yank a HD (or replace) then I'd like it to give very similar messages to what I will face at work in the future. I'd like the creation of ZFS pools etc to work similarly. I'd like SCSI cards (HBAs or whatever) and cabling to be cheap.
Any recommendations on hardware> Servers? Arrays? SCSI Cards/cabling?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    I settled on:
    (2) Sunfire V210
    Storedge 3120
    Connected by VHDCI
All used equipment at a cheap price. Should be a great little testbed.

  • Which Xterm for SPARC ldom Solaris 11?

    Hello,
I was successfully using Xming for connecting Solaris 10 (both SPARC and x86) AND Solaris 11 (only x86) servers. Now I installed my first Solaris 11 on a T5240 and on a T4-4 ldom. The result is that - in both case - Xming is not working: it's very slow, very little chars, icons are missing, top and bottom panel (the menu) not viewable...
    I did a text-install and - after - installed the solaris-desktop pkg (that's what I did for the x86 servers too).
After enabling xdmcp on /etc/gdm/custom.conf and restarting gdm, the result IS NOT the same as for the x86 servers.
Could anybody explain me what I'm doing wrong? I'll appreciate a lot...
Am I "forced" to use Vnc? Are there other possibilities?
    Thanks,
    Luca

Thanks for the reply; I've 4 ldom, each with 8vcpu and 128G memory (one has a little less because of the VM server). I believe they're quite well configured.
Have you successfully used xterm like Xming with Xdmcp? If so, could you please let me know your settings?

  • Announcing availability of  x86 hosted cross compiler for SPARC/Solaris

We are pleased to announce the release for GCC For Sun Systems 4.2.0 cross compilers!
This is a Solaris/x86 hosted compiler with target code generation for
SPARC/Solaris systems. If you develop on your OpenSolaris, or Solaris
x86 laptop or desktop, you can now start compiling your sources for
SPARC systems. Almost all features available in the
native SPARC GCC For Sun Systems 4.2.0 compiler are available
for use in the cross compiler. Please refer to the mini cross compiler howto
page for additional details on install and usage, and gotchas in cross
    development environment.
Please continue to provide us your feedback and issues, which helps
    us make the product better.
    Thanks

Can GCCFSS also cross compile from in reverse - from SPARC to x86/x64?
    Thank you

  • Solaris 8 on Intel and apps for Sparc

I have installed Solaris 8 on PC wit Intel processor
but when i tried to run applications compiled for Solaris 2.6 for Sparc or Ultrasparc
    they did not start .
Is there any way to start applications compiled for Solaris - Spark
    under Solaris for Intel ?
    And how if possible ?
Or the problem is elsewhere ?
    Thanks

No way. Different CPU architecture, you must
recompile the applications from source to intel
    binary code.
(Exception: shell scripts and other interpreted
languages, including byte code interpreters ("java"),
run on different solaris architectures without
    recompiling)
