Would it be wrong to design the tablet in a landscape format?
ANd should I change the site properties to do this?
Thanks, Rebecca

Responsive Design Mode - Landscape Design for Mobile. (CP8)
Hi,
Given that the design default on mobile is on portrait, I'm wondering if there is an option to design for landscape. Thank you.Do you really need to change the layout totally when the size is so close to each other? Just wondering. Responsive means that when you change the browser size everything will adapt. The breakpoints are only meant to have more 'agressive' changes, like having less objects on mobile screen, rearranging objects in another way etc. If you turn a tablet in landscape mode, it will probably use the Primary layout, if you use it in Portrait mode it will use the Tablet layout. If I understood your question wrongly, sorry.

Hi,
I'm an designer, working for a local newspaper.
Seeing the wave of tablets coming up so far, I have decided to learn something about designing a page for tablet
What tools are required in designing a page for tablet
Does printing software (which I use, like) QuarkXpress, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop sufficient in designing a page for 'tablet'.?
Any tutorial recourses
ThanksThanks for the post.
I'm a print designer with knowledge of QuarkXpress, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, where I'm designing pages for Newspaper, Magazines and do info graphics and creating maps etc..
With the advent of tablets gaining momemtum replacing PC, what can a print designer has to do if he wants to survive.
Creating Apps is not of my interest. I could love to do e-book/publications, does quarkxpress and indesign sufficient for that.
For creating Web page for tablet and mobile, Is it required for a print designer to learn XHTML, dreamweaver etc apart from Photoshop, InDesign an QuarkXpress.

Site examples of using css to design for smartphone, tablet, projection
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a site that uses css to design for different platform using css. Not a standalone mobile site, but one where the existing site uses jquery to show the sites differntly.
I saw a video of it using cs5.5 and it seems to be the way forward, but would love to see how others designed/structured their sites to use this technology.
Cheers
DaveHi
The best place to view demo's regarding the jQuery mobile framework is the official site at - http://jquerymobile.com/. But remember designing and building a site specifically for mobiles, (tablet/mobile/cell devices) is no longer a completely different process to a normal site and all smart-phones can now display a normal desktop web site as good as a desktop pc, (and when it comes to html5/css3 even better).
The use of redirects for mobile devices is now an old outdated recommendation, and is the equivalent of saying to any tablet/smart-phone user, "Use IE7 or go-away", so unless you are mainly targeting pre-2008 devices do not bother, (Google and similar do this because they are covering 'all' devices and present a very simple page design which convert to mobiles without much difficulty). It is now a more widely accepted method to use media-queries to display a link to a mobile specific site, that is hidden on larger displays.
Do not get hung-up as some do on this site with the iPhone, it is only one of the devices that must be targeted, and is not even the most popular having a smaller market share than Android powered devices, (I personally use the iTouch, (which has the same web capabilities as the iPhone) and the Samsung Galaxy S2 for my personal testing, then SDK's and 3rd party testing services for other devices) a popular blog with many links that is specific to mobile development is - http://www.visionmobile.com/blog/.
With regards to testing on mobiles, you do not require a iPhone specifically, and if you are on the mac you can download the SDK for accurate testing, (but then what does one do for all the other devices?) and the true mark of a professional, (which I do not claim to be, my clients may, but I do not, and anyone saying they are whilst 'insulting' others must be viewed with suspicion, as inter-personal skills are also part of any designers/developers necessary skills) is knowing that you must test on all popular OS's and devices, (similar to browsers, and just testing on the iPhone is like just testing your site in IE8 and ignoring everything else) so for setting up a local testing suite see - http://www.mikebrittain.com/blog/2010/01/31/browser-testing-for-mobile-web-applications/, and/or you can also use a 3rd party service such as - http://www.deviceanywhere.com/.
For a number of tutorials on using CS5/5.5 for developing mobile site see, - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/mobile-web.html.

Home/landscape design app for mac?
Is there a consumer-level (not some $1000 3D CAD pro app) home and/or landscape design application available for mac similar to Home & Garden designer programs for PC?? I can't find one to save my life!
Thanks for the ideas - I've searched for quite a while. I mean months now. The Apple website doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for. I've seen programs/apps widely available at regular retail stores for PC - that aren't professional CAD 3D programs that cost 100's or even 1000's of dollars just for laying simple landscape and/or interior design plans. I'm not a professional or business owner - I just want something that can help me layout plans for landscaping my yard and for home remodels etc. There's nothing like this for mac?

Designing for print, tablets and interactive pdfs at the same time
Hi everyone,
I have a large document of proposal master pages that I would like to update with CS6. My usual work flow, when I need to make a new proposal, is to open a new document and just move over the master pages I need. This depends on which products they want, etc. Then I override the master pages in the new document and make whatever customizations I need for that particular customer.
Now with CS6, I'm thinking that I will just have the pages be pages (with fewer masters). I will make an alternate layout directed at each market segment we have, and also these pages for tablets and interactive PDFs. (Sometimes we are asked to provide a digital copy of proposals). Then, when I have a new proposal to do, I will do a Save As and make a copy of the main doc. Then I will just delete all the pages and the alternate layouts I don't need.
A few questions:
1. How do I set up my "intent." Most of these master pages are two pages, so I think the digital publishing intent messes that up.
2. Do you think this new set up would make the file huge? I have had size issues in the past and the file is already very sluggish.
3. Is this the best way to go about this work flow?
Thank you guys so much. This forum has been so helpful to me!Hi everyone,

Right way to copy desktop version for tablet and mobile
Watching this video http://tv.adobe.com/watch/muse-feature-tour/adobe-muse-designing-for-mobile-devices/
would seem that copying from the desktop version to tablet or mobile, you copy all the contents (texts, images, slide shows etc..).
But i doesn't work. May I have to totally rebuild manually tablet and mobile versions or is possible copy the entire site and then, if i need , make changes in each release?
many thanks in advanceSad! Could be of great help for us develop the function to automatically copy all the contents.
We would avoid to rebuild the site 3 times and we would re-design only things to change.
Many thanks for your reply -
Is there a way to create a vertical menu for tablet that stays in place?
I am a novice in web design, and I want to make a vertical menu for a tablet page that stays in place.
It should not scroll, and it has to resize depending on screen size, so it looks the same across different tablet sizes.
Is this possible in Muse? After reading some posts I am getting the feeling this is not possible at all, is that really true?
If it can't be done in Muse, can I do it another way? In Dreamweaver for instance?
The reason I want this is that in my opinion horizontal menu's for tablets are ergonomically bad design, and just plain annoying. You always have to use two hands, lift one hand and then you probably block the view of the screen.
Vertical menu's for tablets just make more sense since they can be made so that you could place them on the side of the screen so it would be possible to navigate with the hand that is holding that side of the tablet.
I hope someone can help me.Yes, I am using the widget.
It seems it is not possible to make the menu stick in tablet design (the pin options are greyed out). Nor is it possible to make the menu scale with screen sizes.
A possible solution would be the ability to make it stretch to 100% screen size, like you can with horizontal objects.
I have noticed though, that, for some reason, in web design it is discouraged or very hard to make things stretch 100% vertically. It seems to cause problems, and I don't understand why.
Since I have started in web design, I have seen many posts of people having design problems, where stretching 100% vertically would be the obvious solution. -
Hi, can someone help me, I did my first page in Muse, and I did just for computer, I need to do for tablet and phone, I have to do? thx

Hi
I'm looking for help to create plans for a landscape design and I would like it to be vector-based if possible.
I have outlines of trees as shown below (ArchiCAD) but I'm not sure of the technique to make the grass look how it does and how to make the trees look that way (apart from drop shadow)
The site I'm creating a landscape plan for is around 60% grassland, so I want to use the same effect on the first image to represent grass (rather than a solid colour). The next biggest element of the site is trees, around 20% in various sizes, so I want to re-create the trees as shown in the first image. I have Vector outlines for the trees (From ArchiCAD) but I need to apply some sort of style to achieve the effect as shown above.. The other main part of the landscape is limestone pathways, which are very 'rough' i.e merge into the grass, like on the second image.
What I'm asking is techniques in Illustrator to basically re-create the first image, and add some limestone pathways... I can't really give you a plan because it's basically just grass and a few trees... I have to plan the landscape for a project.
The overall 'theme' for the plan is 'sketchy' If that helps
Thank YouFor the edges of the grassy fills, you can apply a solid green fill, apply an Inner Glow Effect to the fill to get the vignette. To get the stipple and/or grain, combine this with another raster effect, like Spatter or Grain.
You do not need a high Document Raster Effects Resolution setting for this kind of thing, even if it's intended for commercial print. Screen res or 150 PPI is a gracious plenty. When you hit upon a combination you like, store it as a Graphic Style so it can be applied to other objects with a click.
For your trees, draw three or four variations. Store each one as a Symbol. Place Instances of the Symbols whereever you want on the drawing. Use Transform Each to randomly alter their scale/rotation without disturbing their positions. You can paint an entire forest this way in minutes, and it's also a data-economical way to build the file.

What Screen Resolution should I Design For?
Hi,
For APEX applications in public sites, what should be the proper screen resolution should I design for? Also, when I put something like a chart in a region, the size of the chart is always fixed. Therefore, it may not fit a particular screen size. I am wondering what should be the proper screen resolution I should target for - considering different desktop monitors and tablets?
Thanks.Hi,

Also, when I put something like a chart in a region, the size of the chart is always fixed. Therefore, it may not fit a particular screen size. I think it is OK to have some elements with a fixed size, like charts and images, while the rest of the page resizes itself. Charts are a problem because I don't think you can give them a "width=100%" as you can do with images. I think it depends on your audience. If only 5% of users will see the page in a small screen, you should use a big chart, and vice-versa. Or have two charts, one big and one small, and dynamically hide/show them based on the screen size?
If you use Apex 4.2, it has very interesting themes. For instance, I was surprised to see how fluid this page I created was:
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=65861:3:0::NO::P3_ROWID:AAjQ4rAGlAAAADUAAB
If you make the browser window narrow enough, the order items region will move underneath the customer orders region... Cool! :)
(using CTRL+ to make the page bigger doesn't do the trick though...)

Can not remove second line in Jabber for Tablet device on CUCM
Hi all,
The functionality we are trying to achieve is that people will have different DNs for their desk phones and Jabber for iPad devices, but when they make a call from the iPad, the desk phone DN will be shown. I have been testing out the Primary extension feature in the CUCM but it doesn't work properly so far. And now, I added two different DNs to a Jabber for Tablet device and can not remove the second one from 'Modify button items'. It gives the following error :
Update failed. TypeDbErrors.gen25083
Any ideas on how to fix this? Any ideas on how to use the primary extension feature?
Regards,
Fikri
Enironment :
CUCM 8.6.2
Jabber for iPad 9.3.2 / Jabber for iOS 9.6I would delete the device and recreate it or delete the DN and then put it back on the device(s) it does belong on. The only real way to fix this would a TAC case so they can open a defect for you.
Primary Extension isn't used in any of the alerting/connected display states. The only way to achieve this would be a lot of very complicated translation patterns/partitions/CSSes with calling party transformations on them. For example, if your desk phone DN was 2000 but the tablet DN was 3000, the translation pattern that would need to match for every number you dial would have to transform the calling party to 2XXX.
If you want an opinion, this is bad design. You don't email a person at a separate address for their desktop vs. their smartphone. CUCM is designed to work the same way: you are calling a user, not the device.
