Landscape-only printing

I seem to have the opposite problem of the many Leopard-users who can't get their printers to print landscape. My new iMac will print ONLY landscape format out of Safari and Mail, unless I go into the preferences of each program and click the portrait button. This happens no matter which brand of printer we send the job to, so it has nothing to do with our Canon, Konica or HP drivers.
Is there any way to make "portrait" the default setting for all print jobs? It's not a huge hassle to reset the prefs every time I want to print something from Safari or Mail, but I'd rather not have to bother.

I have the same problem. Did you ever find a fix? It's really annoying to continuously having to change the layout of the page in every app!

  • Adobe ReaderX will only print in landscape

I updated to adobereaderX (free version) in the last few days. Now all my pdf documents will only print in "landscape".
    Word docs are not affected.
On checking, my Brother printer seems to be working fine and the printer orientation settings are correct (ie set to portraite).
    How can I fix this?
Brother suggested I remove adobe reader and reinstal.

Are these documents created in landscape or portrait format?

Documents will only print in landscape mode when portrait is disignated

How about changing the printer and printing something, then close Firefox and then restart your operating system? See if that helps ....
I am curious why you need two separate versions of the same printer installed. Is one used on a USB connection and the other part of a network configuration or wireless? If both are network or wireless, are they using a different IP address on the network they are on?
The only time I have seen a similar problem with Firefox not wanting to default to the "last used" printer was with a USB inkjet and a network connected laserjet (Brother) - the laserjet would go to "sleep" (energy saving mode) and Firefox would switch to the inkjet every time the laserjet was asleep. That problem was eventually solved when the USB inkjet was replaced by a "network" connected inkjet - still can't understand why that made the difference, though.

  • Mac only prints landscape, won't change orientation

My Mac book pro will not print correctly to my two  HP Printers, 8600 and 4630.  Seems to want to print in landscape only, and if by chance I can get it to print in Portrait, it leaves about a 3 inch margin and cuts off bottom as if it is still confused and thinks its portrait.  I have been with both Apple support and HP support and they are baffled. They even remotely saw for themselves what was happening.  How frustrating!  If I want something to print correctly I have to print from IPad or Iphone and that works perfectly!  I really want a solution so that I can print from my computer.

    Welcome to the forums winningchanges,
I saw your post about the printing issues you have been experiencing with both of your Officejet 8600 and 4630 models from your Mac computer.
First of all, test the actual printer hardware by making a copy from each unit. If the copies work successfully, the printers test out fine and the issue would be software related.
If the copies are successful we can move on to troubleshooting the Mac.
Please let me know which Mac OS X you're running and also how your printers are connected to your computer. (Ethernet, wireless or USB).

Please print from more than one program on your computer and let me know if the printing issue happens if you print from anyone, or is more related to one certain program.

    Hi vicky611,
Does it print in landscape orientation exclusively from one program, or one device?

  • Printing with In Design CS4 only print left side, why?

How do I print a document in Design (CS4).  I have a 11x17 document (landscape) and when I send it to print it only print the left side (letter).   It is a newsletter so one 11x17 comprises 2 letter size pages.  I want to print them all but page by page by letter size only so we can proof read.
I noticed that in the preview you can see only the half left side is highligthed for printing.   I tried to play around and Icouldn't.
    Do you know why?.
Also when you send a document for the printing services, do you send in in 11x17 size? or letter size?
It is a 6 page newsletter.   One 11x17 both side = 4 pages and One insert 8.5 x11 both sides = 2 pages
    Thanks,

If your page is set up as 11 x 17 and you try to print to letter-size paper yoou'll need to enable tiling to get both sides.
The correct way to set this file up is as lettersize facing pages (and they should be set in consecutive order, as the reader will see them). Imposition for printing is done at print time. If you are required to provide the imposed spreads (and no printer worth their salt should be asking for this), you can place the pages from the original file into a new 11 x 17 document in the correct order. Your insert will probably also print as 11 x 17, just half as many sheets with two copies per sheet, then get cut apart and inserted.

  • Iphoto stuck on landscape when printing

When I want to print from iphoto the orientation of the paper is stuck on landscape.  This means if I am printing a contact sheet or any of the presets including the custom options I only print the bottom half of the page.  It is not the printer as this prints fine with all my other software- indesign, adobe pdfs and vectorworks etc.
It is not the presets on the printer as this is all set up fine - portriat/ one page/ etc
    What is the problem?

It could be a preference file other than iPhoto's that is interfering with the printing process.  Here's  method to determine if that's the case:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock.  You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
4 - reboot. Be sure to know your account's username and password as you will be asked to log in with it.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problem(s) is fixed.
6 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences  folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
    D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
8 - reboot and you're back as square one.
Note:  keep the Preference folder on the desktop until you're sure all registration info for your apps are working.  If not you can copy the required files from the desktop pref folder to the working one.

  • How do I print just 1 web page in FF 29 ? With 29 you can only change the first field ( 1 of 5, 2 of 5, 3 of 5, etc. ) That means I can only print all 5 pages,

So I cant seem to print just the 1st of 5 pages. The default setting , 1 of 5, will print all 5 pages. The 2nd field can not be altered, as it could in previous FF versions, to 1 of 1. Therefore, I can only print all 5 pages, 2 through 5, 3 through 5, etc. WTF - I keep wasting print paper. I got the print edit add-on but that doesn't seem to help. I have been through several FF versions and do not like the format of 29.

Actually, with the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/print-edit/ Print Edit addon], if I click the down arrow I get the old print format options and can do it.

  • Can only print one item at a time

    Hey everyone,
Bit of a Photoshop novice here, use it for DVD covers and labels. I have been using CS3 previously but upgraded to CS5.5 last year. The thing is on CS5.5 I can only print one page at a time even when I input say 20 copies to be printed, only one will print. That goes for the regular printer for printing covers and the disc printer.
I can open CS3 up and right away it will print however many I ask it to.
Is there something I am missing? Something so painfully obvious that it is staring me in the face but I am just not seeing it?
    Thanks in advance!

It isn't a printer setting. I have 3 different printers connected to my system and all of them worked with CS3 fine. And when I delete the preferences folder for CS5.1 it works as it should but only once, then afterwards it only prints one copy, no matter how many I ask it to print!
So if it works when the preferences have been removed, then fails to work afterwards, how can that be a printer setting?
I have read elsewhere that others have had similar issues with CS5 and Windows 7.

  • HT3669 I have an HP deskjet color printer that only prints in black and white from my mac ... how do I get it to print in color

I have an HP deskjet color printer that only prints in black and white from my mac ... how do I get it to print in color

Check the printer itself.  Some printers you need to set the color & B&W settings on the printer itself instead of the Mac.   If that is not the case w/your printer, contact HP tech support and/or post in their forums if they have one.

  • How can I get my printer to print in color? I can only print black and white

HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z-------windowsxp      My printer will not print anything in color.   How can Iget my printer to print in color?  I can only print in black and white.    It is a new Printer and we just installed it 2 wks ago.

I am not sure I understand ''it still will not print. ''
If you cannot see any content on pages you printed or in print preview, the cause might be margins which are set too high.
#In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
#Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
#Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
    '''Right''': 12.7
    '''Top''': 12.7
    '''Left''': 12.7
    '''Bottom''': 12.7
Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • How do I set up my printer to only print in black?

how do I set up my printer to only print in black?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system?   Depending on your printer model you might remove the color cartridge, forcing black only printing, or select "Print in Grayscale" and "Black ink only" in the driver.
Some printer models (whether from HP or other manufacturers) may not allow printing in black if the color inks are empty.  There are also some other constraints, black only printing is generally not available when printing on photo papers and may not be available when printing with an automatic two-sided duplexer.

  • How to Install 64-bit "Generic / Text Only" print driver on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server?

    Hi All,
In a nutshell, I need to Install the 64-bit Generic / Text Only print driver on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server’s “Generic / Text Only 32-bit print queue.
The problem is that there is no Driver-Disk to get the drivers. I’ve been able to isolate 14 files related to the 64 bit drivers from a Windows 7 x64 computer and copy them to a temp folder on the Windows 2003 x32 server. When I try to add the 64 bit driver
to the Windows 2003 x32 server,  it wants a *.inf file, which I don’t have and can’t find.
Because Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP, my client is replacing all of their Point-of-Sale Windows XP x32 systems with Windows 7 x64. They use Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) to connect to a Windows 2003 x32 server to use the POS system. The
POS software redirects LPT1 back to the local Generic / Text Only printer. This works great for XP x32.
When we use the Terminal Services POS software on the new Windows 7 x64 system, none of the labels print out because it’s redirected in 32-bit back to the local Windows 7 x64 Generic / Text Only 64-bit printer.
This will be a huge issue for me if I can’t get this to work.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help! -Rob

  • I am trying to print all the PDF pages in a range of 5 pages but can only print one page at a time . . . It will print the current page, but not all or pages 1-5.  Can this be overcome?

I am trying to print all the PDF pages in a range of 5 pages but can only print one page at a time . . . It will print the current page only, but not all or pages 1-5.  I need to go to the next subsequent page and command to print current page; continuing with this procedure until all pages are printed one at a time. Can this be overcome?

You can use printPages(1, 5), however I need to know how you print current page.

  • Printing to printer on windows xp computer, only prints first page

    hey all,
I need some help. i just switched to a mac and I am loving it, but in my small office, I am having trouble printing. Two printers are connected to a Windows XP computer. I can connect to them via the network and print, but it only prints the first page...Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Hello Cate_B and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The CIFS host error message is often a result of the Mac not being able to resolve the Windows computer name. This would be confirmed by the fact that when you selected Add Printer > Windows, your mums computer did not appear after selecting the workgroup. A solution could be to check what workgroup name is set in her Windows and ensure your Mac is set to the same workgroup name (set via the WINS section of the Advanced network settings.
For an easier fix you could try the SAMBA method again, but this time I suggest you try the following syntax.
    smb://IP Address of Mums Computer/Sharename
    Some other things to check...
    1. Make sure the printer is shared by mums computer and ensure a guest can access it.
    2. Ensure the share name is short (about 8 characters) and contains no spaces.
    3. Check that your Epson driver will work when shared by a PC. Some Mac printer drivers will only work when connected directly to the Mac via USB (this is the case with a number of Canon drivers). In this case, you need to use an alternate driver based on CUPS, such as the Gutenprint driver set. These will work across a network and a cross-platform share.
    Hope this helps you...
