Language for app development?

Hello. I am going to design an app for iOS/Android/Windows Phone. I will be the concept/UI designer and will team up with a developer at a later date.
What language should this be developed in, and what is the best way to make it accessible to all of those platforms?

iOS = Xcode/Objective-C
Other platforms:  ?
I should say that there is no optimal way of developing for different platforms using the same code base.
You might find some third party tools to do it but please don't come here when said third party tools cause problems with an iOS app.

What is the CIS number for app development?

In order to get your App on the App Store you need a DUNS #.  In order to get a DUNS # you need to register and they ask for the CIS, which is a number that classifies your business.

  • Panels in CS5 for app development?

Are there any panels in CS5 created for mobile devices/Android app development? What are the commonly used tools/panels for app development?

Nope, there no other panels needed when developing for android, the only difference is when outputting the file, you should just keep an eye on the library regarding filesize, although it's not very important you never know.
Many other things in regards to performance can be taken care of, but none of them are in a specific panel ( code, caching bitmaps, filter usage.... etc)

  • Proper schooling for App Development?

Hi, I am curious to know if there are schools that major in app development? Or at least proper training to become an iOS developer? Through proper schooling like Universities or community colleges? I am in Las Vegas, NV and was wondering if they offer it here.  Or is it just a computer science degree and then pick up the programming language of iOS developing? Thanks in advance!

That is about as good as it gets.
Don't be fooled by media headlines and stock market reports. Apple has zero respect in universities or enterprise. If you want to write software for Apple products, you generally have to learn it on your own. There are books, online resources such as the ones K T mentioned, and especially Apple's own WWDC, but mostly you have to learn it on your own. One of the best ways to do that is to do all of your computer science assignments on your Mac. Make sure to test them either Linux or Windows before submitting. Your task will be easier (thanks to clang) and more pleasant (thanks to Xcode and the Mac). Your final result will be more correct and robust because you have gotten it working on multiple platforms.

  • Oracle 11g and Supported Programming Languages for application development

    Hi,
Currently we are running our Java application on Oracle 10g Lite. We are planning to upgrade to Oracle 11g Lite very soon. I have below queries to be answered.
    1. What are the programming languages supported for application development to work with Oracle 11g Lite mobile server and client ?
        - i have seen some note saying java and .net are supported. Wanted to know the complete list of supported programming languages on Oracle 10g Lite
    2. Oracle Forms 10g is supported on Oracle 11g Lite platform ?
        - i have some online application running on Oracle 10G Forms. Wanted to extend this to offline model using Oracle 10g Lite
    Thanks,
    Ashok Kumar.G

    Hi Ashok,
    1. What are the programming languages supported for application development to work with Oracle 11g Lite mobile server and client ?
For the 11g version of the product, we changed the name to Oracle Database Mobile Server.    For clarity purposes, there is no product called Oracle 11g Lite mobile server.
For a detailed list of what is/is not supported on the client, please consult the documentation.   See section 2.1 of the Mobile Client guide.  For programming languages you
can use what you want, and we support the following technologies, JDBC, ODBC, ADO.NET.  What you code your application in is up to you.
    2. Oracle Forms 10g is supported on Oracle 11g Lite platform ?
On the database mobile server side of things we do not do testing with Oracle Forms 10g.    I do not know enough about applications developed with the Forms' product.   Database Mobile Server is a product that keeps tracks of changes that occur in a database, and then propagates those changes to an Oracle backend.   We offer 2 way synchronization between an Oracle backend database and a client.  If you are running the Forms application on the Oracle backend and want to propagate changes done out to the client, then this should work.    I say ** should **   because we have not tested it but I cannot think of a reason why it would not work.   It would be up to you to develop the client side application that would look at the data in the client database and display it to the user.    In the 11.x version of the product, we support 2 client databases, Berkeley DB and SQLite.
    thanks

  • SAP HANA development languages for ABAP Developer

Hi I was just looking at some blogs on HANA. Can anyone tell me how to learn the new HANA programming languages SQLScript etc. As you know not many companies use HANA yet, so getting to use a real HANA box can be hard as of now.. What are the other options... Can I install the HANA software on my PC and use it with a few Excel files or MS-Access db just to workout what these programming languages actually do.. Ofcourse I dont have access to the HANA box(hardware that SAP talks about). I am an ABAP Developer I have access to ECC if that helps.
Also from what I can understand the HANA box sits on top of the ECC/BW systems etc  or would HANA replace some aspects of the Application Server and sit in the R3 architecture? if the second scenario is true would most of the ABAP reports etc written using traditional ABAP have to be replaced or modified to use HANA related code in them to improve performance(I know ABAP doesnt support this yet).
If companies start using HANA I would think most ABAP developments just querying to get data would need to be rewritten-even the webdynpro applications for performance.
Can HANA update DBs as well?
Would HANA programming be a required skill for most ABAP developers in future?

    Hello Sk,
so far (with HANA 1.0 SPS 2), the only relevant languages to learn is SQL and SQL Script. Check http://service.sap.com/hana which has SQL and SQL Script Guides.
Since you know ABAP already, you will pick these things up rather quickly. There are as you noted some concepts you have to understand in order to make optimal use of the HANA features and get maximum performance (anyone could come up with SQL or SQL script that crawls to a halt even in HANA). One key is to process everything is sets of data rather than record by record. Another important item is to keep all processing within the column engine. Also avoid joins that lead to large intermediate results. We are currently writing some how-to guides which will be publised on http://www.experiencesaphana.com/. Stay tuned!
In terms of the architecture, I would say HANA as a database sits below the application server and/or client, for example, BW powered by HANA where HANA plays the role of the DBMS. The other option is to run side-by-side for example, connecting HANA to an existing ECC (that runs on MS-SQL). In either case, you are right; the logic (either in the application on top of HANA, or the models inside HANA) needs to be changed or created to take advantage of HANA.
Where can you learn more? Class room training TZHANA or come back regularly to the Try section of the Experience Site where we plan to publish other options.
    Regards,
    Marc

PS: And we certainly have plans to integrate HANA features into ABAP

  • Do you offer a price reduction for app developement for Non profits.

We are developing Apps for our church and were looking at the cost of developing and Apple app.  We are a small church so do you offer any type of discounts for non profit apps.

You are not addressing Apple here, only other users like yourself. You will need to contact Apple directly with this question.

  • What MAC Is Needed For App Development

I need to purchase a Mac to develop apps on for college.  What is the minimum I can purchase to build, test, and debug my apps before release.  Should I purchase a new computer or will a used one be good to start with.  This will be my first mac, so any assistance will be helpful.

Hey TechArtist, like you i reccently invested in my first ever mac. I got the standard macbook pro retina 13' late 2013 model. I have to tell you its a beauty. It is very light, thin, fast and perfect for xcode and other IDE's(such as eclipse, android studio and dreamweaver etc.). The screen is so AMAZING and it makes the code look so neat and crisp. My friend has the 2012 13' macbook pro so i know which one i like the most. Compared to mine his is slower then the newer model, not that light and as seeing you are a college student you might would want something light and thin. But seeing as you would like a cd drive unless you wont be using it often you might want to go for the 2012 one. There is a noticable difference in speed but its not a big gap. It really does come down to personal preference to be honest. Just go to the apple store and use each macbook for around 10-20 mins and see which one you'd like. Also i would reccommend not to get the macbook air as its not that great for developing (friend also has a macbook air).

  • Recommended Reading for App Development in iOS 5

    Good Afternoon...
I've recently installed XCode 4.3.2 on my MacBook Pro as I am interested in learning application development for the iPhone and iPad.
The extent of my programming experience is BASIC. I've browsed the on line tutorials and the books available at the local B&N. There is plenty to choose from but before I purchase anything, I thought I'd better ask.
Can anyone recommend reading? I'm guessing that BASIC programming experience translates into no experience where this is concerned. I'd also be interested in hearing about any training courses on the subject.
    Thank you.

Are you currently in a valid paid Individual Developer Account...?

Where's the best bet to find them? We did contact a few advertising on Monster and some other places, but turns out none of them have been published yet.... Do you know of a good web site or board where we might find a seasoned developer?
    Honestly, become an Apple Developer.
    http://developer.apple.com/
They have forums where you can ask questions, like "I need an App developer...HELP." Someone will point you to someone. Or volunteer.
Also, LinkedIn has an iPad/iPhone developer group. I belong to a medical apps subgroup, and I can tell you there's a lot of "advertising" of skills and such. Moreover, LinkedIn gives you the chance to do some background checking.
With these two groups, you will get the best of the best. Don't google for one. You'll get junk surrounding the few diamonds.

  • Can I use macbook air for ios app development?

I would like to know if i can use macbook air for ios app development or macbook pro is only option?

Just to reinforce what shldr2thewheel says - be very sure what size memory you want if you get a Macbook Air. There is *no* way to change after purchase. My advice is to go for the 4GB option - especially if you want to do app development.
The internal storage (solid state drive) of the Air can be upgraded if required but it will probably be an expensive option. If you don't think the storage will be enough then maybe using a USB connected drive to hold non-essential files is an option.
As to deciding between the Air and Pro you are basically making a decision between portability (Air) and expandability/bigger screens (Pro). What is more important to you?
