Language input constantly changing

I don't know exactly what happened (might have been an accidental button combination) but a few moments ago my Mac has decided to randomly change to any of the three input languages I curently have (the little flag in the menu bar). Any reason why? And perhaps, any solution to this weird situation?
Thanks.

Interesting; spotlight is F2 for me.

  • Firefox freeze whenever tired to change language input

Hi. Whenever I tried to change language input to enter other languages Firefox freeze (program not responding).
It happens as soon as I hit alt+shift or when I click language bar to select other language.
It also happens with several languages (that I tested, might be all), and I tried various input software/mode including windows default, all freeze. Reset Firefox under help does not work either.
This issue occur with Firefox and Chrome, but not IE... Might not be Firefox problem as it happen w Chrome, but and ideas please? Thanks.

    Edit:
    * regedit might be changed, but do not believe touched internet setting.
    * I can enter foreign language as long as I set that language to default, and do not change to other language in the language bar. Currently I am using foreign language input software as default, and switch to English input '''within '''that software.

Hi. karaoke I am not sure if its the same issue. The crash at language switch on my computer was due to the IME for Eastern Language Banks (Language option -> Detail under text services and input languages -> Properties -> reset/untick auto learn).
If you are not using Eastern Language IME... I am sure others here have more experience and can better help you. =)

  • How to STOP OS X from automatically changing between language input methods

I want to know if there is a way in OS X Leopard to stop the system from automatically changing the language input method. I use English and Japanese on my computer, but this would apply to anyone using more than one input method.
For example, when I click on a Japanese-language file, the system automatically changes input to Kotoeri (the Japanese-language input method). When I then click on an English-language file it usually, but not always, changes back to English input. But I almost never want to TYPE in Japanese. I just need to be able to read Japanese and to cut and paste from Japanese language files. It is very annoying when I start typing in an English-language file and find the input method has been changed to kotoeri without me realizing it—everything comes out in meaningless Japanese. When I want to type in Japanese, I want to manually change to the Japanese input system. That is, I want English to always be the default input method even if I am manipulating Japanese-language files.
So, I’m wondering if there’s a way to set the computer so that it never AUTOMATICALLY switches between the input methods. I want to be able to switch only manually. In the old days of System 7, 8, and 9, there was a third-party control panel you could get that would do this (I think it was called Stay There!) and I don't remember this being a problem in Tiger or earlier versions of OS X. Is anyone aware of any way to do this in Leopard?
    Thank you!
    Colin

Well, I do have it set that way, and I can look up there to see where I am, but in the work I do time is critical and I move back and forth between the two languages frequently. It is really a pain and a waste of time to have to look and make a change that should be unnecessary. The problem is not so much that I don't know where I am. It's that I don't want to ever have to think I MIGHT be in anything but English input unless I specifically want to be. In other words, I need to be able to forget about this problem even being a possibility.

  • How to change the flag image in language input in menu bar?

I have two languages that I have selected for regular use in my language input menu (on the right-hand side of the menu bar), and I would like to change the Spanish input flag from the Spain national flag to an Argentina flag, just for aesthetics. I figured it'd kind of be like changing the image of how the HDD looks like on the GUI (control-click, get info, copy and paste image), but I'm not sure where to start or if it's even possible. Anyone have any clues or experience with this? I may just have to make do with keeping the Spanish flag up there but just for curiosity's sake I want to know if it can be done.

There is no problem doing this if you are willing to create and install a custom keyboard layout.  You can find the tool and a manual at

  • Spell-checker keeps changing to US English when system language order is changed

When I switch the order of preferred system languages in System Preferences' Language and Text section, the spell-checker's language often changes to 'US English', even though it's disabled on my computer as I prefer the British spell-checker. My current preferred language order is 'British English', followed by 'English' and 'German'. US English is completely disabled as a system language. When I go and check the 'spelling' option in the Language and Text panel, the spelling is set to US English (even if it had British English set before, which it has done since I initially set up my language options) and I have to see unsightly red underlines under words like colour and realise. Whilst this is easy to change I would rather not have to constantly change it back to British every time I do this. Does anyone else experience this, and is there a way to prevent the US English zombie from rising again?
    I'm using OS X 10.8.4.

It may be a general category, but in practice I have never seen a piece a software where English will give any other localization than American English.  Have you?
I doubt that switching OS languages is something many people do more than once.  Still, you are right that it should go back to the original setting.  Let Apple know via

  • Language input switching shortcut doesn't work

Hi! I always use command-space to switch between English and Chinese (Cangjie) input (having disabled this shortcut for Spotlight), but all of a sudden it stops working. I know the command key works and the space bar works, but when I press command-space it does nothing. I have to click on the little language flag to switch language. I also tried restarting the mini.
There is also something weird about the Chinese inputting now but I'll ask that in another post.
    Thanks!

I've been having a similar problem, but a little more elaborate.
It started with my Finder switching on its own from US (my default) keyboard input to Hebrew. I would just switch back using the shortcut (command+space bar), a shortcut I have been using for years without problems. Now the shortcut is giving me problems, and sometimes doesn't work, as steveappleotp describes.
While in Safari, the shortcut failed to work. I checked my System Preferences for language input and nothing had changed. When I used the mouse to open the language input menu, 3 of the 6 languages were grayed out. But this doesn't happen consistently. All of a sudden everything is okay and I don't know how to recreate the problem.
Thought I would post this here as it's recent and related, but maybe I should start another thread.
    Thanks.

  • Language input options disappear

Although being British, I live and work in Japan. For this reason I use two input keyboard methods - regular British English, and Kotoeri Japanese (both standard in the input methods section of System Preferences).
Until a few days ago, everything was fine, and I could switch languages just by changing the little menu in the top right of the screen. But now, Mac OS completely refuses to remember my settings and just resets to US English every time when I restart (the handy language icon/menu disappears altogether). It's becoming really annoying to have to go into system preferences and setup my input methods every time just to be able to type Japanese.
Anyone had a similar problem, or more to the point know of a fix?

I had deleted all languages that I am unlikely to use (to save up to 3GB or so!) but I had left Japanese untouched. Still, I don't see Kotoeri anymore.
Perhaps you did not really leave Japanese untouched? Try reinstalling the Japanese Language Translation files from the OptionalInstalls.mpkg of your install DVD.

  • Japanese language input

    Hello,
I'm really interested in buying a Passport, but it seems I can't find actual evidence on the Internet whether Japanese language input is natively supported by its 10.3 os.
I don't have access to a physical Passport in department stores, so I can't check for myself, if you can confirm that for me it would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    hopefully future BlackBerry user.

the iTouch (like any iPod) can change its menu settings to Japanese. I visited an Apple store recently and found that the iPhone doesn't have the option. But trying to INPUT Japanese is an entirely different issue. So far, I've been unable to confirm that either device can handle the inputting of actual Japanese text, in a phonetic manner, then having it translate to characters. This is how the Mac works normally, but the phones and iPods don't seem like they're there yet. Anyone know when that will change?

  • Spotlight / Language Input Menu Keyboard Shortcuts

In the Mouse & Keyboard Preference Pane, I disable the keyboard shortcuts for the Language Input Menu.
In addition, I try to change the keyboard shortcut for Spotlight from CMD-Space to Option-Space.
The only problem is that these prefrences reset themselves upon logout.
Is there any way to fix this, or can someone point me to the .plist file for keyboard shortcuts?
    Thanks in advance.

can someone explain in more detail on how to change the keyboard shortcut? on my old imac, i was able to switch languages by using cmd-spacebar.. but on my macbook, it seems to direct to another command.
how do i change that so i have a hotkey on my keyboard to change languages?? (i'm very tech. challenged, so baby steps would be goog >_<!!) thanks for the help!

  • Language Input Choice

Leopard appears to have removed a capability that exists in Tiger and goes back to classic versions--i.e, the ability to have a different language input for each application. In Tiger, this is accomplished by clicking on "Allow a different input source for each document" in the International preference. This no longer exists in Leopard. It is very inconvenient to have to switch the language with Cmnd-Space every time I need to check a dictionary while I'm translating something into English from another language. In Tiger, all one had to do is set the language input for the dictionary once and it would automatically change when the dictionary was switched to and change back when the document was switched to. Is there some way to do this in Leopard.

InputSwitcher is a great work and I really appreciate the developper.
But the best solution is of course Apple's direct supprt of the feature. InputSwitcher does not work with Carbon Applications, and actually installing a patch using SIMBL is a hack and not really recommended to all users. Let's keep sending a feedback to Apple (http://www.apple.com/feedback/).
Please understand that I don't mean to hinder popularizing InputSwitcher. It's great that we can just use it right now. But it isn't really good if users are just satisfied with such a utility and stop sending feedback to Apple.

  • Latin Language Input Method

Hi. I am looking for Input Method for Latin Language (language that still used in Roman Catholic Church). Microsoft provides this language in Office, but not in Windows 8(.1) via Control Panel in language input method. I cannot synchronize the input method
between Windows and Office as well as Indonesian, Italian, Thai, etc. I think many people still need this language to work with Ecclesial work such as daily prayer in Latin language or bible study. Is there any update for this language? If not, I ask Microsoft
to provide Windows update for Roman Latin language. Thank you very much.

    Hi marcellius.ac,
" Microsoft provides this language in Office, but not in Windows 8(.1) via Control Panel in language input method."
Do you mean there is nowhere to install the language or this specific language is not listed ?
Please refer to the following link to install the language package and configure it .

Here is a link for reference of all the language options :

If it is not listed ,I am afraid this specific language is not supported.

  • Language Input and non working space bar

Eversince i changed the language input there has been quite a bit of hassle . First my space bar isn't functioning as usual . i think the reason could be the language imput since it started to act weird (ex:When pressing it 14+ times it won't make a space ) . Now theres also a EN symbol above everything . i never had the en thing like that before . How do you get rid of it and have the space bar back to normal .

Hi ..it means Left Hand Side. The audio comes in as two tracks..left and right (I hate this I might add..it's so messy...zillions of audio and all it does is give me the excuse to mess it all up..which I seem to be doing today). I've managed to split the left and right tracks and now one is short than the other..but I can't drag it out to re-align it with the other track..the handles drag both clips simultaneously
I am seriously thinking of chucking this program and going back to Premiere Pro...this is just taking too long...been at it all morning and getting nowhere. Even just bring tracks into the timeline..before I was just draggin and dropping ..now it's telling me it'll put other stuff out of synch...jeez..why does it feel the need to shuffle everything else up the timelime. It's as though someone has been on this machine at the weekend and played about with every possible setting to wind me up. (I know that's not true..but that's what it feels like).
And my spacebar no longer workes..even when I put the playhead on the timeline..I should surely be able to work it from there..I was working it there before. Torture.
Hope you can help with the audio..otherwise I'm deleting that track and redoind the dips and fades..but that would be torture..plus who's to say it won't happen again..can't keep deleting and starting over..I'll never get finish.

  • Z10 - Japanese Language Input & Display

Can anyone tell me if the Z10 supports Japanese language input, and the display of Japanese characters?
I have several Japanese colleagues who are currently using the BB 9780. These can support Japanese through a quick change of the phone OS.
Will the Z10 support Japanese from the start, or will the OS change method need to be applied?
The phones themselves will be used on the Vodafone UK network.

    displaying shouldnt be a problem.
for inputting, closest thing i could find was this.
    http://bbfansite.com/wp/?p=26150
it is introducing the app called "gjapanese" which let you convert to japanese by accessing IME through network.
the blog article is written in japanese so let colleagues read it if they are interested.
the os changing method worked before QNX based os came out.
to be honest, since the playbook( also QNX based os running) never supported japanese input, i strongly doubt bb 10s will either.

  • Os language preferences not changing system menu and windows

    Hello fellow problem solvers;
I am trying to switch system preferences to French from English under X.4.3, and after log out or reboot Finder, File, Edit, View, and Go , stay in English in the finder. Applications that have localisations work fine, language inputs also have always worked.
I tried trashing preferences, even tried TinkerTool system, running a terminal command to delete the start up var files that recall the new installation program from another post on the forum.
I can't get it to work on any of the Mac's here on Tiger but it works on all on Panther.
Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to get the finder menu bar, and system windows to go back to the set system language, short of an archive and install?

I did an archive , reinstall and update by software update. That worked for the three computers. I don't know why the language package didn't work any longer as I checked with Pacifist and they were installed.
The only thing that is quite bothersome is now on the old computer the cron task weekly takes 15-20 mins if ever. Something is playing with the database.
I tried permissions, empty caches, DiscWarrior etc but it still is excessively slow.
There are two X.4.3 on the same disc each on their own volume. Any ideas?
