Language input options disappear

Although being British, I live and work in Japan. For this reason I use two input keyboard methods - regular British English, and Kotoeri Japanese (both standard in the input methods section of System Preferences).
Until a few days ago, everything was fine, and I could switch languages just by changing the little menu in the top right of the screen. But now, Mac OS completely refuses to remember my settings and just resets to US English every time when I restart (the handy language icon/menu disappears altogether). It's becoming really annoying to have to go into system preferences and setup my input methods every time just to be able to type Japanese.
Anyone had a similar problem, or more to the point know of a fix?

I had deleted all languages that I am unlikely to use (to save up to 3GB or so!) but I had left Japanese untouched. Still, I don't see Kotoeri anymore.
Perhaps you did not really leave Japanese untouched? Try reinstalling the Japanese Language Translation files from the OptionalInstalls.mpkg of your install DVD.

  • Bopomofo Language Input Option

I downloaded the application for inputting Chinese characters using bopomofo.  It seems like the keyboard is missing some bopomofo's.  Does anyone know how to use this function fully??  Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You don't need the application, you need a multilangual OS Software.
    Check this link

  • Has the "accidental trackpad input" option disappeared in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion?

It doesn't seem to be under any of the usual (mouse, trackpad, universal access) preference panes.

This sounds like a compatibility issue with the software you are using. I recommend you contact the software vendor for a Lion-compatible update.

  • Language input disappears after reboot

    Hi,
Has anyone noticed this? After enabling Chinese language input, after rebooting, the option will disappear, and I will haev to add it back again.
It is very annoying and seems to have happened after the 10.8.3 update.
    I am running a Mac Pro, 5,1, 12-core 2.4, 28GB RAM.

    Hello ywchai!
I made a test on my computer and added to my kyeboards (German, French, Russian) the "Chinese Simplified". After restart everything was as expected. How did you upgrade to Mountain Lion. Did you made a clean install?
What happens, if you start with Shift? Does the Chinese keyboard is in the menu?

my voice input option in the keyboard has disappeared ..i am using iphone 4s

    Three places:
    1.  Setings > General > Cellular is in the second block of access buttons.
    2.  Settings > General > About > Network tells what network you are on, and Carrier tells who your cellular service carrier is.
    3.  Settings > WiFi ON for wireless network access, then Choose a Network to select and attach to a wireless network.

  • What happened to my Voice Input option button

My microphone was present on my keyboard and now it's not. I go to Settings/Language and Input/etc. etc. This is the message next to VOICE INPUT option that is grayed out "no voice input methods enabled. check Lang and input settings". I downloaded the Google keyboard and the same problem exists.
Why did the microphone key disappear? I can't put it back by the methods I have found using Google Search because I don't have the VOICE INPUT option. This is ridiculous. I loved using the TTS option. Now I can't. I've only had my phone a few months.

The voice memos are NOT in iTunes but when the phone is connected to iTunes i can see and hear the voice memos on the iphone menu inside iTunes.
So it looks like the memos are still in the phone but somehow invisible... and now?

  • Input menu disappears

Since upgrading to 10.4.9, the input menu (normally a US flag in the menu bar, changes to other icons when you change languages) disappears in some applications. It is there and works normally in the finder and mail, but disappears when I open some applications including Nisus and Yahoo Messenger. I do all my word processing in Nisus, but even when I open a file with extensive content in another language (Chinese in my case), without the input menu I cannot use that language to input text. I have trashed the plist files in the applications which are affected, but no luck. Any suggestions?

This may be a bug. I am having similar problems. I have two menu choices in the Input menu (U.S. English and Dvorak keyboard layouts). I use Dvorak layout while typing long text etc.) But for no reason at all, the menu changes to US layout. This is despite the fact that I have elected to have "One input source in all documents" in the System Preferences->International->Input Menu tab. This is exactly the thing I used to distinguish the stability and "reasonableness" of the Mac from that of Windows! Once upon a time, when I used Windows once in a while, I would have the same issue in the Windows keyboard input options - it would change for no reason! It's very disppointing to have this on a Mac. This apparently happens only after I updated to 10.4.9 or within the last two updates. Before that I don't remember this happening.

  • Attention, Korean Language Input, very important message from a BB fan

Dear all, who cares about it !!!
Recently I bought a Z10 here in Dubai, paid full in cash. Although I am native Korean living and working in Korea, currently working in Dubai as a PM for a certain project, I have used Black Berry for over 8 years now 6th different models so far, started from black and white in mid 2000 while I was working in US.
Ok, back to Z10, I simply did not imagined that you guys are not supporting Korean language nor Japanese input when I was purchasing. Oh by the way, I am writing this message in order not to criticize, nor give any bad names of Black Berry, like I told you I have been a fan of Black Berry over so~~~~~~~~~~~~many native Korean phones made and especially designed to suit perfectly in Korean mobile environment, you don’t know what’s it like to be a BB fan and user in Korea, very much limited support, assuming that must be the reason why you guys are downsizing or pulling out from the Korea market.
Yesterday, when I was looking for a contact, I had to scroll up and down for a quite long time as most of my contacts in Google and Outlook are written in Korean, leaving me no other options but to scroll up and down, up and down, until I finally hit the one among over 900 contacts. Try it!! It is not fun especially when your boss is waiting for such a contact. That quiet moment, sweating my hand, when my boss is patiently waiting for it, here I am scrolling up and down, up and down, up and down,,,,,assuming, at least, that he was in a good mood that day, thank God!
You know, after all, all I need to do is to spend another several hundred dollars and get used to a different OS environment, but once I do, it will take much harder for me to come back to BB unless I have exceptionally good reason to do so.
I am not asking for awesome WORDS FLY INPUT OPTION for Korean (which I would love to), but let me just simply find my contact by typing in a letter so that I won’t be embarrassed in front of my boss or co-workers. Now, people make fun of my loved BB, because of that simple incident and I don’t like that I think it is absurd.
Hope you guys are getting the message, I don’t know how much longer I can wait until you come up with some solutions and I completely understand your difficulties, I guess, but let us know. If you guys are not planning to support Korean nor Japanese for a while, I need to buy a new phone today. As it is starting to cause some problems at work.
Oh by the way, have you accounted how many Korean or Japanses BB fans out there?? 20M? 30M? I don't know what you guys are doing...
Finally, some of you guys owe some answers for many BB fans out there...
    Sincerely,
From a long time BB fan, who is about to leave that reputation...

Korean input language & User interface is available in 10.1 and will be updated in the upcoming version:

  • Firefox freeze whenever tired to change language input

Hi. Whenever I tried to change language input to enter other languages Firefox freeze (program not responding).
It happens as soon as I hit alt+shift or when I click language bar to select other language.
It also happens with several languages (that I tested, might be all), and I tried various input software/mode including windows default, all freeze. Reset Firefox under help does not work either.
This issue occur with Firefox and Chrome, but not IE... Might not be Firefox problem as it happen w Chrome, but and ideas please? Thanks.
    J
    Edit:
    * regedit might be changed, but do not believe touched internet setting.
    * I can enter foreign language as long as I set that language to default, and do not change to other language in the language bar. Currently I am using foreign language input software as default, and switch to English input '''within '''that software.

Hi. karaoke I am not sure if its the same issue. The crash at language switch on my computer was due to the IME for Eastern Language Banks (Language option -> Detail under text services and input languages -> Properties -> reset/untick auto learn).
If you are not using Eastern Language IME... I am sure others here have more experience and can better help you. =)

  • Japanese language input

    Hello,
I'm really interested in buying a Passport, but it seems I can't find actual evidence on the Internet whether Japanese language input is natively supported by its 10.3 os.
I don't have access to a physical Passport in department stores, so I can't check for myself, if you can confirm that for me it would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    hopefully future BlackBerry user.

the iTouch (like any iPod) can change its menu settings to Japanese. I visited an Apple store recently and found that the iPhone doesn't have the option. But trying to INPUT Japanese is an entirely different issue. So far, I've been unable to confirm that either device can handle the inputting of actual Japanese text, in a phonetic manner, then having it translate to characters. This is how the Mac works normally, but the phones and iPods don't seem like they're there yet. Anyone know when that will change?

  • Spotlight / Language Input Menu Keyboard Shortcuts

In the Mouse & Keyboard Preference Pane, I disable the keyboard shortcuts for the Language Input Menu.
In addition, I try to change the keyboard shortcut for Spotlight from CMD-Space to Option-Space.
The only problem is that these prefrences reset themselves upon logout.
Is there any way to fix this, or can someone point me to the .plist file for keyboard shortcuts?
    Thanks in advance.

can someone explain in more detail on how to change the keyboard shortcut? on my old imac, i was able to switch languages by using cmd-spacebar.. but on my macbook, it seems to direct to another command.
how do i change that so i have a hotkey on my keyboard to change languages?? (i'm very tech. challenged, so baby steps would be goog >_<!!) thanks for the help!

  • No chinese language input in keyboard

i was playing with my brother's ipad trying to get the hang of it before i buy myself one. i noticed on the keyboard that there is no chinese language input like that in the iphone.
is there really one or do i have to download a software or whatever.
by the way, my bro bought in the states, and we are located in asia.
wondering if it will be included in the asian release.

i noticed on the keyboard that there is no chinese language input like that in the iphone.
Do you really not see the option for Simplified Chinese? If not, something is wrong with your system.
The iPad does not yet have input for Traditional Chinese. It is one of the 2 dozen keyboards which are in the iPhone but not yet ported to the iPad. Presumably Apple will add it in the future via a software update, but nobody can tell you when. There is no way to add it yourself.
If you are talking about Traditional Chinese, tell Apple you want it here:

  • Latin Language Input Method

Hi. I am looking for Input Method for Latin Language (language that still used in Roman Catholic Church). Microsoft provides this language in Office, but not in Windows 8(.1) via Control Panel in language input method. I cannot synchronize the input method
between Windows and Office as well as Indonesian, Italian, Thai, etc. I think many people still need this language to work with Ecclesial work such as daily prayer in Latin language or bible study. Is there any update for this language? If not, I ask Microsoft
to provide Windows update for Roman Latin language. Thank you very much.

    Hi marcellius.ac,
" Microsoft provides this language in Office, but not in Windows 8(.1) via Control Panel in language input method."
Do you mean there is nowhere to install the language or this specific language is not listed ?
Please refer to the following link to install the language package and configure it .
    Change your language or keyboard

Here is a link for reference of all the language options :
    Language packs

If it is not listed ,I am afraid this specific language is not supported.

  • X2-02 in India has Indian language input?

I am in India and am thinking of buying the X2-02 but I would like to know whether it has input methods for Indic languages.
Last time I bought C1-01 I was pleasantly surprised to find that it allowed me to type in Indic languages for SMSs etc.
Also in my X1-01 if I have set the phone language to Indic language then I can compose message in Indic script.
I would like to verify same is true for X2-02 before buying this. Thanks!

X2-02 does not have Indian language input except Hindi and English, which is pretty much useless in country like India where there are so many language people.
    Refer to: http://discussions.nokia.co.in/t5/Xseries/X2-02-Writing-Language-is-limited-to-Two/td-p/1397795
C1-02 and X1-01 did have this option but X2-02 dosent.
