Language keyboard

well, have a macbook pro, first version 1.83 process but keyboard is german.  I want to convert to english without using the "preferences setting" from german to english.  The keyboard is too strange for using System preferences.  Weird question though. I want to just swap out the german keyboard for english.    Sounds easy enough and I certainly can do this task.  But I have so much conflicting information that I need to replace the top case as well.  Before I go through the trouble (and cost) of ordering the keyboard, I wanted to the advice of this group.  any advice?

  • A possible solution for "foreight language keyboard shortcut" problem...

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Everyone know the problem of losy keyboard layout when Final Cut is used with foreight language keyboard. We loose the COMMAND-Q shorcut.
As PieroF suggested in many posts in final cut express forum, there is a workaround:
"+I just installed Leopard and I ran into this keyboard shortcut problem.+
    +I can confirm that:+
+a. the problem exists also with the Italian keyboard (in addition to other languages, as pointed by other posters)+
+b. the workaround I described in my previous answer works fine :+
    +- close FCE (if open)+
    +- open System Preferences/International/Language+
+- drag English to the first place on top of the other languages+
+- drag your own language (Italian in my case) again on top of English (at the end the window will show the same original settings, but something happened in the heart of Leopard...)+
    +- close System Preferences+
+- open FCE: now all shortcuts work as expected, and are correctly listed with their corresponding menu commands+
+It's a workaround, it's not convenient (I'd better have this bug fixed), but apparently you have to apply it only once for each system startup.+
    Piero "
As stated by Piero, you have to follow this procedure after each computer startup.
I found a way to restore the COMMAND-Q shortcut with the keyboard and mouse system pref panel.
Simply add Final Cut application and add a +custom shotcut+. Be careful to type exactly the "Quit Final Cut Express" menu.
This solution allows to restart the computer.
It's work with Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro under Leopard 10.5.4.

    Hi Michel,
I like your suggestion because the keyboard shortcuts defined in the system preferences do not require redefinition at each startup. So in theory we could define all missing/wrong shortcuts this way, and not only the cmd-Q as you suggested. Boring, but we could do it once for all.
The only problem is that I don't know how to define shortcuts for submenus, for example "Render Selection/Both": it seems system preferences allows only to define shortcuts for the menu ("Render Selection" - in this case absolutely useless) but not for the submenu.
Do you know a way ? (I looked in the help, which didn't... help).

  • Why the Unavailability of Foreign Language Keyboards in the US?

I am a foreign language student (Russian), and am trying to buy a foreign language apple keyboard (preferably wireless) in the states. I know they are available in Europe (my stepdaughter confirms she can get one thriugh her apple store), yet when I try to do the same here, they deny they even exist!! (This is the case even on the online store!!!)
I tried to order one from one of the European Stores online (actually, more than one) and it won't let me complete the order, even if I make payment in the local currency (pounds, euros, francs, rubles, or what have you).
This is a frustrating (and in my opinion, fairly serious) problem, and I am sure I am not the only one who is going through this fiasco. I certainly don't want to pay 5x the price via a "smuggler", I would rather get peripherials FOR my apple FROM apple.
So Apple, what gives? There's a market for these products here, my MacBook Pro WILL support this product... So why won't you let me buy one (or even admit to me you even have such a thing, when those overseas have free access to them)?

I do not want to get on your case, but Apple is a business, one that tries to make a profit. Carrying items in inventory that serve a tiny number of individuals in the US actually costs them money. But they'd also have to carry inventory in every single foreign language keyboard, and the costs become huge.
Moreover, and with all due respect, if you're here in the US studying, you really need a US English keyboard. And as the other poster said, you have access to the Russian character map for keys, so if you have to write home, you can write in Russian, and you'll be happy.
By the way, all of us here are users like you. Getting annoyed hardly ever gets you help. If you want to complain to Apple go here.

  • CS3 Language Keyboard Input Error

    Greetings All,
I have been trouble-shooting this problem for a while, but still it is not resolved. Any help or ideas would be gladly received!
Background: We have a correctly functioning installation of Win XP, and PS CS3 Extended which appears to work normally in every other regard. No obvious errors; no crashes, no start-up complaints; nothing seemingly out of order. I use several installed languages in Windows (EngUK, Russian, Swedish, etc). All of these work normally. All of my installed fonts work correctly in every application on the system except for CS3.
There would appear to be something wrong with CS3's keyboard mapping in foreign languages. When typing with a non-English keyboard setting (any other language) and using TrueType fonts (not Open), only 'missing character' boxes appear in the artwork. The Layers menu displays the typed text correctly, but this will not appear in the artwork. If I use an old install of PS7, I can type using these same fonts correctly in any language. These layers can be imported into CS3, and these WILL display correctly on the artwork. However, the Layers menu in this case displays nonsensical characters. Ergo, I suspect that CS3's keyboard input data is errant.
Where does PS3 keep its information regarding language / keyboard layout? It is possible to edit this file(s)? Are there any other ideas regarding this problem and what might be wrong?
    Thanks

  • I can't login; language keyboard problems

    Hello!
I own a 15" Macbook Pro (from mid-2012), and I haven't really had problems with it up until now.
You see, I pressed a feature in settings, requiring both the account name and the password to login. What I didn't know is that only English would appear at the login screen by default (call me an idiot, but I didn't know my hotkeyed language keyboard wouldn't work at login). My username is in a different language (Korean), while my password is in English, so at this point, no matter what I type in, I can't log into my account because my user is in Korean.
I've been in Korea for the past two months now, so I called the Apple support service here, but all I got were really vague and unrelated answers/solutions.
I have thought about the possibility of restoring my backup through Time Machine, but I didn't bring my external harddrive over to this country, and I'm trying to prevent myself from reinstalling the OS X if possible.
So, in a nutshell, I guess what I'm trying to ask is this: Is there any way I can log into my account, even though my username and password are different languages?
If I can provide any other information to help you answer this, I would gladly do what I can.
    Thank you in advance!

Solved own problem; opened up Terminal through Cmmd + R at startup screen.
Typed in "resetpassword," leading me to a popup window, asking which password I'd like to change.
My account had an English name right next to it in paranthesis.
    Restarted computer.
Typed in that English name and password.
    Logged in.

  • No 3G iPhone support for Greek language/keyboard!

Last Friday, the very first day of appearance of iPhone in the greek market, I bought, from a greek Vodafone shop, a 16GB iPhone 3G.
It was quite a bad surprise and disappointment to me, when i realized that greek language was not included and supported in the international language and keyboard package of the device! That makes it the first mobile phone Vodafone provides to the greek market, without supporting greek language! When I mentioned that to Vodafone people, here in Athens, Greece, they blamed Apple for that problem. They said that a new firmware update is expected by Apple, and probably then the problem will be solved!!
So, ladies and gentlemen, is there any information about the availability of greek language/keyboard support for the 3G iPhone?
    Thank you for your time

i sen this to support under enhancement request in case anyone is bored of typing:
    Hi,
I recently signed a contract with vodafone Greece for 46 € plan (one of the more expensive from the countries that the iPhone is available) in order to get an iPhone 3G 16GB for 430 € (also one of the highest prices of iPhone with a contract) only to find out that there is no Greek Keyboard. This is unacceptable. I don't care for which other countries you have made keyboard or not (although you make sure to rub it in my face) but the essence of the iphone is that it is a tool to have with you all the time and if the is no ability to right in your native language it is rendered useless. The think that is more frustrating is that those who bought the iPhone from abroad (at 1/4 of the price) and jailbroke it have a Greek keyboard, made by Greek hackers/programmers.
Today comes, as i am told the 2.1 firmware update and i sincerely hope that it has the Greek keyboard in it otherwise my (and many other i spoke with that bought the iPhone due to its features and not due to the Apple brand) loyalty to the Apple brand (which is already in bad shape due to the Greek retailer Rainbow) is going to be in jeopardy.
    please fix this
    thank you

  • Why iPhone And Other iOS Devices Dont Have Kannada Language Keyboard...?

All Over The World There Are 7+ Crore Kannada Speaking Knowing People Is There.Millions Kannada Of People Using iPhone And Other iOS Devices. In Indian Language There Is Only 2 Laguage Keyboards Are Installed. What About Other Languges??? We Are Requesting To Add Kannada Language Keyboard On iOS Devices.Hope You'll Accept My Request...Thank You...:-)

    Guru,
I have been requesting the Kannada keyboard for ios devices for last 5 years. I have made several phone calls, but for ios the only way to request feature is to fill the form
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
but the good news is that ios 8, they have mentioned support for Indian languages in the keynote. I have installed the ios 8 beta-1 on iphone 5s to check the same. Kannada is listed under the language setting for the first time, where as earlier versions had Kannada listed only under region setting. So Kannada keyboard could be added in subsequent betas. Mac OS already has Kannada keyboards in 2 styles. So, its not off the radar of apple.
Worst case scernario, if apple doesn't add it, never mind. ios 8 will have the ability to install third party keyboard with system wide support for the first time. Somebody will develop the keyboard and sell it for a dollar or two. I use "Kannada Keyboard for iOS" by Todd Kramer. Right now, it works only within its app. But once iso 8 is released, one of these guys with create the keyboard system wide, if apple doesn't add it.
    Thanks for the interesting question.

  • How can i disable Illustrator from changing my language / keyboard layout.

I have an azerty laptop and a qwerty external keyboard. Switching from any application to illustrator changes the language and therefore also my keyboard layout. No other application does this.

    Thanks for the reply Mike
But i have a laptop with azerty layout (Belgian) and an external qwerty keyboard (Brittish).
So i need both languages selected in the System Pref >> Keyboard >> Input source
When "Brittish" is selected and i switch from Apple Mail to Photoshop to Skype to Chrome to ... it all works fine.
Only when i switch to Illustrator it also changes my language/layout from "Brittish" to "Belgian" and stays like that. I need to manually change it back in the menu in Finder.
I like the brittish better (with a qwerty keyboard) because of the shortcuts (eg. sqare brackets -> shortcuts for order in Illustrator are not even on an azerty (Belgian) keyboard).
    Any idea?

  • Water damaged MacBook Pro - powers up, but wrong language keyboard is on and I can't log in. How to fix?

Over a month ago my cat dumped a glass of water on my laptop. I unplugged it and let it dry for days but it never turned on. I plugged it back in a few weeks later and it powers up, turns on and prompts me to log in like always. I type my password but it tells me it's wrong. After so many tries it prompts you to reset your Apple ID password and shows you what you're typing. This is where I see the problem - my keyboard is now set to a different language, but what I can't tell? Turkish maybe? Anyone know of any shortcuts to fixing this or is my laptop toast?

    tangiers8 wrote:

If you can post a photo of what you see there, I can perhaps at least tell you whether it actually is another language or just junk that indicates the keyboard is damaged.

  • No keyboard shortcuts in 2nd language keyboard after 10.5.6 update

I decided to take the plunge from 10.5.2 to 10.5.6. My only grievance for 10.5.2 was that Mail changed the extension of attached files if the filename contained non-latin characters (a known bug which was killed in 10.5.6). I took all necessary pre-update steps, namely:
    SuperDuper! backup (SmartUpdate)
    TimeMachine backup
    Repaired permissions
Reboot from external USB drive; Repaired main system (internal) hard disk
Reboot off main drive in Safe Boot mode and install of OS X update, then finally,
    Repaired permissions.
Now my Mac doesn't accept keyboard shortcuts of any kind in any application if the input language is Greek (it used to until this morning, in all incarnations of OS X from 10.2 to 10.5.2). Tried in two user accounts. I also created a new user account, same trouble.
If I add another language in the Input menu, e.g. Arabic, then the keyboard shortcuts work for that; still not for the Greek that used to work until now.
Gotta run, but I'll post back later with some further info on this issue (I really must dash out, and I haven't got time to elaborate right now...)
BTW, the Greek I'm using is not the one from the Apple install, but the one from here.

BTW, the Greek I'm using is not the one from the Apple install, but the one from here.
You probably need to ask vodkatini. I think that's a hack for using non-Unicode Greek with old apps. Do you really still need it? Apple won't make any effort to adjust OS X to accomodate such things.
Do the standard Apple Greek keyboards work OK?
You could also ask on Greek Mac boards where people might be using the vodkatini stuff. Or go back to your last OS where it worked.

  • Temporary change of default language/keyboard layout

I've started learning Arabic and I would like to be able to use Pages to type out written work. I'm aware that I'll have to figure out which keys correspond to which letter in Arabic but I can't figure out how to get to the stage whereby I can write in Arabic script. Is it possible to have my Pages layout in English but that I can type in Arabic script? I'm pretty sure I'm not good enough at the language yet to load the whole program in English.
Thanks to anyone who can help. I've been trying to figure it out for ages.

Pages has various bugs that make using it for Arabic undesirable for most people. But it can't hurt to give it a try.
Go to system prefs/international/input menu and check the box for Arabic Qwerty, plus the box for Show Input Menu in Finder, then select Arabic in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder and type.
To see which key does what, use Keyboard Viewer, also activated via the input menu.
