Language Learning Software Help

not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but i thought i would pose it anyway. i'm trying to find irish learning language software and there are a couple of products out there, but most haven't gotten the best ratings and reviews. so i was wondering if anyone might know of some good software out on the market

Is this an SAP provided search help or one you created? This doesn't sound like correct functionality. The number of hits shouldn't change if you perform the same search. Also if the keys/descriptions are language keyed, they shouldn't cross over and provide entries from other languages keys than your logon language. If the search help functions differently from the SAPGUI/classic dynpro usage than Web Dynpro ABAP, I would suggest opening a support ticket.

Linux & learning software. your tips/tricks/experiences w/ studying.

Hey everyone,
I'm a college/university student and find myself using my laptop a lot for studying lately. I use it mainly as a substitute for pen and paper so I'm wondering how I could make even better use of the PC/laptop while learning.
Enter thread. I'm really curious as to how you use/used linux while learning/studying.
Did you
* find learning software that generally helped you a lot with your learning experience?
* develop a particular organizational system for your documents?
Or maybe you found a very satisfying way to document lectures with LaTeX/OpenOffice and/or keep backups of all your documents?
One thing I found very useful over the last weeks is Dropbox. I always have 3 automatically synchronized copies of my documents (one on the homeserver/PC, one on my laptop and one on the Dropbox servers).
Personally, I'm studying law and when I was planning on using MS Windows I found that there exists a lot of probably very useful software. Among them a commercial application that would create a virtual filing system for documents that you could even automate to a certain extent (it could file with dates, field of law, name of lecture/professor et al). Another application would let you create virtual file/index cards, keep track of whether of not you learned them, when you learned them, if you got the answer right and it would also tell you when best to learn older cards again.
I never got to really test those apps because I didn't have a laptop back then.
Later I forgot about them and these days I just want to use (arch) linux as I'm so comfortable with it.
That's it from me for now. I'll try to find out if there are linux equivalents of the depicted software. If you already know some don't hesitate to tell me
TL;DR: What's your experience with using a laptop/PC to help with studying or working? Did you find/write any software you'd think others might find useful for learning?

I love learning languages and I have the following workflow:
I use an application called Anki. It is a spaced repetition software (SRS) that helps you remembering things. It has a nice community and the software itself is very effective. I think every student who has to remember for a long time what he learned (language learners, law or medical students for example) would find it extremely useful.
When I'm travelling by public transport I study my new material, make notes about it on my Android phone etc. I can keep my phone in sync with my desktop computer easily with Dropbox. I put the new material into Anki when I get home. I record the grammar points I studied in a LibreOffice spreadsheet and I also have a list of the grammar points I want to learn next. I always do my Anki repetition before putting in new grammar or vocab.
With this workflow for example I have learned more than 3000 Japanese characters in a little less than 5 months and I have no problem remembering them. I was also able to learn and remember thousands of words in a relatively short time and study grammar much much more effectively than I would have done in a normal language course.

I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader (11.0.07) and installed it. Message said install successful. But APEX learning software does a check to see if my system has Adobe Reader and it says I still need to install it. What's up? This has happened

You still don't give us the message you are receiving. My guess: you are trying to open a PDF in a browser that uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

Adding language learning CD's to itunes

Hi - my wife and I are trying to add a few language learning CDs to our itunes library but we need some help please.
The contents of the CD we have just loaded are, not surprisingly, not recognised by Gracenote, and so there are no artist, album or track details allcated to the CD. However, we need to add this so that it is easy to find and use the uploaded CD files, much as you would play an entire music album.
Does anyone have any guidance on how to do this please? My wife is a keen language student and as she travels alot, it would be so much more convenient to carry her ipod with all her language CD's on it, rather than the CD's themselves. Surely what the ipod was designed for?!

Language Learning Forum should be open for all aga...

Hello,
I am at a loss as to why we we have to 'rank up' before we can access language exchange forums.
When it was the way it used to be, I made so many friends and it benefitted my language learning greatly. And these were all from people who just came to these forums on the offchance, some with 0 posts, some with 1 post. Now a huge audience of language learners will be excluded... It is not even clear how much we have to contribute to the community before we can access them.
Will it ever be reverted to how it used to be? I spent 2 years studying Japanese, and I can't tell you how beneficial the old skype language forums were for that. I have now begun Mandarin and it would benefit myself and so many others if the forums were opened up again.

Has anyone by any chance read about (or frankly experienced) the rank up? Honestly though, it makes sense because sometime you have a lot of creepers that just want to make accounts and skype girls and then pull a "chatroulette" on them if you catch my drift.
It makes sense and it shows you are an active competent person who is striving to learn the language not someone who is simply going to try it out and then "drop the class" if you will after a week of exposure.
Competition has always bred the best of beasts and men. Continue doing that it shall.
Too often did I add an individual who simply wouldn't respond to me whatsover or seemed to not want to skype just send messages and thats not always quite helpful, and can become tiresome for the devout and ardent learner of languages.
Alas i'll post til I get upgraded and permitted then I shall post once more about the quantity of postings required.

Where is the Language Learning Board. It seems to have disappeared. Is it now cancelled? No more language learning board? I had used it a few times but now it's gone.

How do I create a new folder/library type for language learning mp3 files?

Is It possible? Because I don't want to mix those language learning files with songs in my music library...

There are several ways you can do that.
Treat them as Podcasts. This can be set via Get Info > Options > Media Kind.
Start a whole separate library. This can be done by the Shift-Start method.
Put them in a separate playlist.
Create a separate Genre for them, e.g. "Language." This can be set via Get Info > Info.
Personally I would do #4. Once the Genre is set, you can always find them via the Column Browser, or by making a Smart Playlist that keys (includes or excludes) on Genre.
However, each has its pros and cons. You can decide which is convenient for you.

I agree about the Google Translator. I have tried others in translating art songs into English, and Google give me better results 90+% of the time.

My students want to decrease the speed of audio mp3 files for language learning purposes. How can this be done in iTunes on the following devices?
(a) on a Mac
(b) on Windows
(c) on an iPhone
(d) on an iPod
(e) on any other mp3 player you can name

Thanks, Kappy. Those desktop apps would be too pricey for my language learners. I use Audacity for this and other purposes, but it may require more steps than they can handle or have patience for.
They want to slow down audio files on their handheld devices. I see you can speed up a podcast 1x - 2x, but I don't see that you can slow it down.

Can I download an older version of Firefox? As far as I know, Firefox is the only browser that is suppose to work with all the features of Angel. Now it appears that it doesn't work with the message feature.
