Language modification problem - Pages

Following the recent download of Pages version 5.1 I am no longer able to modify the language of the text. Has this option disappeared?!

Languages are at the bottom of the Spell Checker > Automatically by Language > choose a language

  • Strange problem (Korean language in jsp page) - Urgent Please

    Dear friends,
    I have a strange problem.

  • Switch language at a page level

    How do we setup in order to have a link ( usually at the top-right of the page ) to switch between (for our case) ENG and CFR.
    This would allow us to change language instantenously at the page without having to logoff and login again with the other language.
    Right now we can only choose the language at signon time.
    Looked the peoplebook and searched online but not able to find how to get this activated.
    THANKS

    Unfortunately we try to stay away from customization.
    What we found is that we can set this up via
    PTools -> Utilities -> International -> Preferences ->
    (Change language in drop-down box) ( From here we should see a language drop-down box at top-right of EVERY page we would open )
    ( So we can switch between languages for that page just by choosing from that drop-down box )
    PROBLEM: We still dont know why this top-right drop-down box ( not the one in PTools -> Utilities -> International -> Preference page )
    appears for some users but invisible to others.
    Thanks.

  • Where is the language setting in pages 5.0?

    please can someone tell me where is the language setting in page 5.0. this is for the purpose of spell check, for example, change british english to american english, the word "personalized" is red-underlined because the current setting is in british english, how can i fix this? thanks.

    hmm this seems like to resolve the problem only temporarily.
    when i shut down pages and reopens, it jumps back to the british spelling. how can i make this fixed to the american spelling?

  • Language Selection Option - Pages 5.

    Hello!
       I am not to convinced about the Language Selection Options on new Pages 5. I do translations and work with different laguages simultaneously. With Pages '09 I had no problem with language.
    Pages 5 does not automatically detects language, how can I enable the auto language detection on Pages 5?

    Hi Tom,
       thank you for your prompt response. Actually  I never removed Pages 4... it's in use 95% of the time. I wanted to know if Apple had done something about that laguange-spelling issue.
    Cheers!

  • Welsh Language Support in Pages and Keynote

    Is Welsh language supported within Pages like on Microsoft Office? If so - how do I set it up?

    You can switch your Mac to Welsh:
    Menu > Apple > System Preferences > Language & Text > Edit List > check Cymraeg > OK > drag to top of list
    There is however no dictionary for Welsh in Pages, but you can install 3rd party dictionaries in OSX, obtained from OpenOffice or other open sources or 3rd party commercial sources.
    Peter
    PS Which Welsh were you after? Always the problem for small langauges.

  • If my network goes out briefly due to a problem at my ISP, FireFox immediatly opens a "diagnose network problems" page. How can I stop this?

    If my network connection goes out briefly due to a problem at my ISP, FireFox immediately opens a "diagnose network problems" page. This is particularly annoying when I don't even have FireFox or any other software open. Ideally, I do NOT want FireFox to even check if my Network is connected. How can I stop this?

  • How do you change the language in iPad Pages?

    How do you change the language in iPad Pages? I tried lookin for it but I can't find it.

    What a lot of confusion in this discussion!
    The language of a text is a property of the text itself. If the keyboard or the language of the OS of the computer is changes afterwards, the language of the text remains what it was.
    Only at the moment when text is typed the keyboard settings may be used to identify the language. If you are able to imagine a text composed of sentences in different languages you should be able to understand this.
    Changing the keyboard in order to change the spellckeck only works at the moment of typing. With texts written earlier it is meaningless.
    When I import a document written in German on my Mac to my iPhone and iPad, Pages on iPhone and iPad do niot recognise that the text is German. The spelling checker underlines everything. And what people complain about here is that we do not find the place where to tell Pages that the existing, imported text is written in a certain language.
    Please stop mixing this up with keyboard issues!

  • Replacing a problem page

    I'm a newbie to web design and I have bailed on failed attempts with WordPress and Drupal.  Muse is a breath of fresh air.  Thank you, Muse Team!
    I have a simple site with five pages, each represented in a horizontal menu created with the menu widget.  One of the pages is misbehaving in some browsers (it appears about 30% too narrow and left-shifted, but intact) in iOS and Android browsers.  It displays correctly in Preview, Chrome and IE. I can see no differences in the page layout preferences between the problem page and all the others.
    So, I'd like to re-generate the troublesome page from scratch to see if I can fix this issue - an easy task, since it's nearly empty of content.  I'm worried if I simply delete the page it'll break the menu system.  I'm also worried that creating a new page with the exact same name might cause problems.
    Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem?
    Thanks!
    Peter

    Hi
    You can delete the page and start as new with same name, it wont be a problem for menu item link.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Multiple languages in one Pages document

    Hi.  I don't know how to use mac software to use several languages on the same document.  I regularly write articles and book chapters using sources (including interview stuff and book and article references) from English, Spanish, Italian and French.  I also do posters on iWork's Pages; my mac software seems to have a lot of problems recognizing language change, and I have lost all hope to use grammar proof and spellcheckers.  Has anyone been able to solve this type of problem?  There must be thousands of academics out there working on multilingual documents.  Someone must have come up with a good solution!  I will be thankful for any advice you can give me on this

    Just clarifying Tom's post.
    The language of the text is part of its style, like bold or the font or color.
    Select the text and declare its langauge in:
    Inspector > Text > More > Language
    Then include that in a Character Style and you can apply it to other text.

  • Tibetan Language publishing problem

    Hi,
    I meet a problem.
    I'm in China. We created some E-learning modules using PowerPoint, initially in simplified Chinese language. We published them either locally (to the local computer) or to the Connect Pro server, the final published document displayed without problems.
    Now, the original PPT module files had been translated to Tibetan language (see the 1st picture in the below).
    I try to publish those Tibetan modules to my own computer recently. However, after the publishing process, the index.htm (the window that should display) did not show the contents as I expected. I just see the Adobe Presenter icon on that page, seems it is trying to display, but in the initial loading process endlessly (see the 2nd picture in the below).
    I tried several modules, only the first one of them works but others go to the problem I mentioned above.
    I used Presenter 8 to publish the PPT files.
    I Emailed a previous colleague of me, who is a very clever Yankee. He replied the font (Tibetan) may not be supported by presenter. But I'm bewildered - why I published the 1st Tibetan language module, and successfully see the results? Did I just accidentally succeed?
    Here is the last message he sent to me:
    Yes, the font might only present a problem for certain characters, I think presenter 7 would probably be worse in this regard (but who knows?), I don't have PowerPoint or presenter on my computer and so can't actively diagnose, sorry =(  I'm sure you can get a handle on it though - try looking at your browser's JavaScript console when it tries to load, it might give you some hints!
    By default, when I chose "view output after publishing", Internet Explorer would be used as the showing screen. And I may not have the intention to change into another browser. He mentions the JavaScript setting of the browser, I'm still not sure what he pointed to.
    Can anyone tell me how to display published Tibetan PowerPoints? Or, Tibetan language is not supported by Presenter indeed?
    Thank you

    I tried to delete some slides and publish the PPT, I find the cause is focused on some slides from 11-14. (I've tried to delete some slides from the beginning, the publishing results were all fail)
    In the process of deleting some slides from the PPT, voice files may be deleted automatically by the Presenter itself, but I don't think it was the voice file that created this problem.
    Delete and publish            Publishing results
    s11                                        Fail
    s11, s12                                 Fail
    s11, s12, s13                          Fail
    s11, s12, s13, s14                 Success
    s14                                        Fail
    S13, s14                                Fail
    s12, s13, s14                         Fail
    s11, s13, s14                        Success
    s11, s13                                Fail
    s11, s14                                Fail
    There are 15 slides of this module in total. I have included the pictures of s11, s13, s14 here.
    Would you like to diagnose this issue, if I send this module presentation to you via Email? Could you leave an Email address or message your Email address to me?
    And, after I identified those slides that may causing this problem, I found them (s11, s13, s14  see the list above) maybe not necessary for local publication, since we do not intend to publish those modules to a Connect server and collect answering statistics. So the option for us is to delete those three slides and do the local publication.
    But if you have interest, I would send you the presentation file, and you can take a look.

  • JES5 Language Localize Problem in Web Interface

    I hope this is the correct forum to ask this question...
    Here's the problem:
    I wanted to make a Dutch version of the Sun Java Communication Express, so I followed all the steps you have to do (create folders, translate all the necessary files, edit .properties files, ... etc). I've also restarted the server after uploading.
    It seems that everything has worked out well, because when I go to my web interface, I can log in. I change the language to Dutch, and logged out.
    Now here's the weird part. When I log in again now, my "Mail" tab stays in English. But when i go to "Calendar", "Options", etc. the interface is show in dutch, as i translated them.
    I've found out that the redirecting url might be wrong, cause the url that show in my browser is: (ip)/uwc/webmail/en/mail.html?lang=en&laurel=on&cal=1
    It doesn't seem normal to me that, in the url, there is still "en" instead of "nl" for dutch. When I change the url manually, that's the only way to show the dutch version of my mail tab.
    So propably the problem is that the url ist being editted after choosing dutch as language(when I choose French, it DOES edit the url to "fr").
    Has anyone got an idea how to fix this?
    Kind regards,
    Andrew

    Shane,
    as I have been updating our own documentation I have also honored your request to update the publically available [ http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php?title=Add_New_Language_ME Messaging Server wiki].
    For future reference the above link may be more up-to-date then this text.
    How do I add a new language to the Messenger Express interface that is not one of the languages localized by Sun?
    Because Sun does not provide additional localizations beyond those already supplied, you need to do your own translation.
    Start by copying the original files of one of the supported languages to the new language you need to support. In this case I translate from English (language code: en) to Dutch (language code: nl).
    Your Messenger Express may be installed in a different directory, change paths accordingly.
    <tt>
    cp -r /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/html/en /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/html/nl
    </tt>
    Translate the file <tt>/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/html/nl/i18n.js</tt>. It contains most of natural language used in webmail. The files <tt>help.htm</tt> and <tt>help2.htm</tt> contain a lot of help text. I cheated and replaced those files with less extensive useage instructions or just leave the original english and hope the customers don't complain too much.
    For each language already supported and the new one edit the file <tt>i18n.js</tt> and add a localized name for the Dutch language and add Dutch to the supported/available languages in the options page.
    <tt>
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/html/en/i18n.js
    i18n['en']='English'
    *'i18n['nl']='Dutch'*
    function i18n_preferredlanguagelist()
    var lang_list = new Array('en', *'nl',* 'es')
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/html/es/i18n.js
    i18n['en']='Ingls'
    *'i18n['nl']='Holands'*
    function i18n_preferredlanguagelist()
    var lang_list = new Array('en', *'nl',* 'es')
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/html/nl/i18n.js
    i18n['en']='Engels'
    *'i18n['nl']='Nederlands'*
    function i18n_preferredlanguagelist()
    var lang_list = new Array('en', *'nl',* 'es')
    </tt>
    The Messenger Express web interface has built in spelling check. The dictionary files come from the ancient/traditional unix ispell and are
    available for download from: http://ficus-www.cs.ucla.edu/geoff/ispell-dictionaries.html
    Download the Dutch affix rule file and the actual dictionary files, and use the buildhash command to make a hash file Messenger Express can use. When
    copying this hash files be warned that you can't copy it from x64 to sparc (big/little endian) architectures.
    <tt>wget ftp://ftp.tue.nl/pub/tex/GB95/ispell-dutch96/dutch96.lat</tt> (dictionary)
    <tt>wget ftp://ftp.tue.nl/pub/tex/GB95/ispell-dutch96/dutch96.aff</tt> (affix file for use with above dictionary)
    <tt>
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/lib/buildhash dutch96.lat dutch96.aff /opt/SUNWmsgsr/lib/nl.hash
    </tt>
    with a new dictionary in the correct place it should be detected automatically after a restart of Messenger Express.
    Use configutil to make Messenger Express aware of the new language:
    <tt>
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/configutil -o gen.installedlanguages
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/configutil -o local.supportedlanguages
    </tt>
    returns for instance the language strings: <tt>en,es</tt>. Add Dutch:
    <tt>
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/configutil -o gen.installedlanguages -v "en,es,nl"
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/configutil -o local.supportedlanguages -v "[nl,en,es]"
    </tt>
    Make the new Dutch language the default language for this site:
    <tt>
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/configutil -o gen.sitelanguage -v nl
    </tt>
    Restart Messenger Express (web interface) to make the changes effective.
    <tt>
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/stop-msg
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/start-msg
    </tt>
