Language of the keyboard

Hi,
i'm italian and i live in u.s.a.
i usually use the mac to write articles and essays...and in italian language we have a very impressive use of à è é ì ò ù
so i nedd to use the italian keyboard...
but if i want to order a mac, from www.apple.com (because now i live in usa) i can't choose the italian keyboard...
some solution?
and if i buy just the keyboard how much does it cost?
thanks!

i already knew this solution, but you understand that
i'm used to use that keyboard since 20 years so i
don't want to change the way i type...
If you don't need to look at the keys, then you can activate the Italian layout. Go to system prefs/international/input menu and check the boxes for Italian, plus the box for "show input menu in Finder" plus the box for Keyboard Viewer. Then select the layout you want in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder. Select Keyboard Viewer to see which key does what.
yes, i think the only solution is to call them and
ask for it...
Let us know the results -- I doubt you can get want you want in the US.

What exactly are you referring to?   Are the menus or templates for Pages in a different language?  Does something strange appear on the screen when you type?
Could you perhaps use the Camera icon here to post a screenshot of what you are seeing?
To make sure you have the right keyboard, go to system preferences/language & text/input sources and make sure that only the box for US or British is checked (and that the box for French or German or anything else is not checked).

  • Why does Office language follow the Keyboard and can it be stopped

    Hi
To clarify here I work for a multi-language company Office is installed in US English language packs are loaded for French, German, Czech and Japanese.
For my case I have a French Laptop but most of my communication is in English. In the office language settings everything is set to English. But the keyboard remains set in French.
Image not included because I'm not trusted yet.
When I open any Office document the proofing language will be French. In Word for instance at the bottom of the screen every new document opens with France (French).
I have tried changing this via the language preferences, by GPO and by Registry hack and nothing works. The proofing tool always defaults to the user input language defined on the OS. You can change it document by document of for PowerPoint slide by slide.
But that's not what I want. I want the spell check and grammar to check for the language I define as default.
    Has anyone got any ideas.
    Thanks

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for your question.
As per your description, it seems you have the Detect language automatically
option turned on. This feature detects the language that you are typing in and enables the proofing tools for that language.
Please try to turn off this option and then verify result:
Open a new Word document or an email message from the Outlook client.
On the Review tab, in the Language group, click
    Language.
    Click Set Proofing Language.
In the Language dialog box, deselect the Detect
    language automatically check box.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I change the language of the keyboard for searching, etc?

    Hello,
Yesterday I bought an ATV3. I am a Canadian living in Japan so I set the device to Japan, but the language to English. Althogh the majority of our content is in English, my wife and children have some of their own media content and want to search in Japanese. However, we can't figure out how to change the "keyboard" to Japanese. Do we need to change the device language to Japanese everytime we want to do a search in Japanese? That would be a huge hassle.
How do we seach for "嵐" in our iTunes list if we can't access Japanese keys?
Thank you for any advice you can offer.

To select the next input source in the Input menu, press Command-Option-Space bar.

In which Apple Online Store's country have you seen the Mac? It probably comes with the keyboard for that country. If you want to make sure of that, call the Apple Online Store

For things not in the Emoji keyboard, you can use an app like Cymbola, Unicode Map, etc.

  • I can't type in my ipad password because I changed the language of the keyboard, and now I'm locked out of it. What do I do?

I accidentally set my ipad's keyboard to arabic, and my password for it has all english letters, and now I can't get into my ipad.
    What do I do?

Have u backed up your ipad to iTunes recently? You could restore it from a backup. That would restore your ipad to a point in time that your keyboard was in English.

  • Language layout of the keyboard?!? What means western spanish???

    Hey guys.
I'm from germany and I'm going to move to the united states next year. At the moment I'm not sure if I should buy my new macbook in germany or wait and buy it next year in the us. The problem is the language of the keyboard. I'd still like to have a german layout of the keyboard. There is an option in the us apple store where you can change between "us english" and "western spanish". now my question is: means "western spanish" the german (european) version of the keyboard with "y" at the lower left of the keyboard? If it means then I'm willing to wait with buying my new macbook til I moved to the states.
    Thanks for quick answers
    Jules

  • Brand New MacB Air and i haven't been able to get passed the format which has had to be done twice because, I have a French Numeric Keyboard and Language in English.  The minute I type in my password, the keyboard gives me letters that i did NOT type.

I live in Switzerland and can only buy a Mac Air with a French or German keyboard, no chance to buy an English keyboard Mac here,.  When setting up  I chose the French numerique keyboard, although there are two choices French or French numerique.  I put in my language as English.  When all was set up I came to the start page and had to put in my password, by the grace of g....I just happened to see the first letter I typed before it turned into a dot.  My password which was supposed to start with the number 2 showed a french e with accent before it quikly became a dot.
Because of the dot system, this meant that I had no clue what the keyboard was typing as my password ...........and true enough my password was not accepted despite my trying all combinations.  I have had to reformat twice now thanks to Apple Chat and both times my password was not accepted.  I am in the process of formatting it again, this time on my own.  If the Start page does not accept my password again this can only mean that the Mac left the factory with faults.  I could not be more disappointed with the money spent and the time and trouble that Apple Chat and I have spent in trying to correct a brand new out of the box Mac.  I have a cheap Toshiba laptop also with a french keyboard and english language which gave me no trouble at all.  I am not impressed with the so called King of computers!  First of all the dot system is daft.  People want to be able to see and confirm their passwords before they are set for good.  Second,  this problem is going to give me a lot of grief.  Switzerland business is not renowned for its after sales service or the time it takes to do repairs.  When I had an issue with my Vaio laptop which was still under warranty, they kindly picked it up from my house, repaired and promptly returned it.  How's that for good proper service.

i didn't read a lot of your 2nd paragraph, but it seems like the password is the issue, right?
    do a true clean install
reboot your machine and hold down command+option+r, you should see a spinning globe - if you don't see the globe or anything that reads internet recovery, shut down and try again
at menu, chose disk utility and once there, find your HD on the left side, select the physical name and erase it as mac journaled
    exit disk utlity
    at menu, choose install OSX
this time, when it asks for a password just hit continue, it will let you complete without a password
you should be able to get into your laptop, now figure out what password you'll be able to use with your kb issue

    LizMaddock,
you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for changing dictation language in Yosemite?

I can't find the keyboard shortcuts to change the dictation language in Mac OS X?
I would really appreciate if someone help me with this problem. I work with two languages and I really can't find any way to do that.
    Thanks for your help guys

Until the developer can release dictationswitcher compatible with Yosemite, here is an AppleScript that will toggle between two languages. After it switches, it will speak which language has been set. Currently, the spoken text is in English (United States). This script will work on Yosemite and Mavericks. Tested.
What you need to do to get this to work.
Add your alternative language to the Dictation Language pop-up.Set your languages in the AppleScript property strings exactly as they appear in the Dictation Language Menu.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Script Editor (/Applications/Utilities).
    Click the hammer (compile) button
Save once as File format text (dictation.applescript) - don't hide the extension, or check any of the checkboxes.
Option+Save As… File format Application to your Desktop. Hide the extension, and check no other checkboxes.
The first time that you run this application, you will receive a dialog box just like the one below (I changed the name back to dictation):
Click Open System Preferences. Click on the gold lock button in the lower left corner. The Accessibility category will be selected, but the dictation application in the list of apps will be unchecked. Check it, and then click the gold lock again. Quit out of the dictation application on your Desktop, and run it again. If you happen to get another dialog indicating that it still does not have permission, revisit the System Preferences > Security & Privacy panel, and under the Privacy tab > Accessibility, uncheck the dictation application, and then recheck it again. Quit System Preferences. This happened to me, and following this second action allowed it to work properly.
Future releases of OS X may impact this application if Apple changes the order of the UI elements.
I modified this AppleScript from an Apple StackExchange post by qegal in 2012.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Yosemite Script Editor per the above instructions.
property defaultLang : "English (United States)"
    property altLang : "German (Germany)"
-- property altLang : "French (France)"
tell application "System Events" to set p to (path to frontmost application) as string
         tell application "System Preferences"
         activate
reveal anchor "Dictation" of pane "com.apple.preference.speech"
         end tell
         tell application "System Events"
              tell process "System Preferences"
tell pop up button 1 of tab group 1 of window "Dictation & Speech"
                        click
                        try
if (get value of attribute "AXValue") contains defaultLang then
click menu item altLang of menu 1
say "Dictation set to " & altLang
else if (get value of attribute "AXValue") contains altLang then
click menu item defaultLang of menu 1
say "Dictation set to " & defaultLang
                             end if
                       on error errmsg number errnbr
tell process "System Preferences" to if it is running then quit
display alert altLang & "not configured in Dictation Languages, please add." as critical giving up after 10
                       end try
                   end tell
           end tell
    end tell
    quit application "System Preferences"
    activate application p
