Language support bug with iphone 2.0 software?

With 2G iPhone running with 2.0 software, I have noticed the following.
When I have "Settings -> General -> International -> Language" set to English, the Chinese text sent in my emails becomes corrupted in the email body, and other non-iphone users cannot read my message contents.
The Chinese text in the email subject, however, looks fine, just not in the message body.
The work-around is to change the "Settings -> General -> International -> Language" setting to Chinese as well, and then send the email with Chinese text. That will work, but it's annoying when you do not want everything on your phone to show Chinese.
Is this a known bug and is there a fix?

Is this a known bug and is there a fix?
It could be that when the OS is set to English, Chinese email is sent in UTF-8 encoding, which is sometimes not supported at the other end. There is no way to change this on the iPhone I think. It can also happen in the ordinary OS X:

Send me a test message in Chinese with your OS set to English and I can confirm (tom at bluesky dot org).

  • Outlook Sync with IPhone 2.0 Software

Has the issue with the 2.0 software not syncing with Outlook been resolved. I did a search and it indicated that Service Pack 3 needs to be downloaded for Outlook 2003 to sync with contacts - but I need Calender items also.
I wanted to ask before I try again (concerned about losing data).
    Thank you!

I've been syncing to Outlook 2003 since I got my original iPhone, through all software versions up to and including 2.0.2. No real problems and I don't have Service Pack 3 yet. Just SP2.

  • Keyboard input allowed with iPhone/iTouch remote software?

I have searched through the posts but haven't seen a definite answer: Can anyone confirm if keyboard input via the iPhone/iTouch remote software is available with the ATV 2.1 update? I don't have an iPod Touch (yet) so I can't test this out.
Utilizing an iPod Touch/iPhone virtual keyboard would be SO much better than the little white remote when doing searches in Youtube/iTunes music etc.

Works like a champ using 2.0 and Remote on my Gen 1 iPhone.
You can type in search terms and it behaves just like iTunes, narrowing the results as you type.
Plus you can scroll long lists of songs or other content very rapidly and use the alphabet column (like Contacts on the phone) to jump quickly.

  • Problems with iPhone 3.0 software on iPhone 3G

I love the iPhone 3.0 software update. I just wish that Apple can fix the following problems now:
    1. The phone starts to slow down, real slow, a day after the update.
    2. Battery uses up like crazy, takes a much longer time to charge, and the phone gets really warm when in use or when charging ever since the update.
    3. Sometimes other parties could call in - they were directed to my voice inbox even though I was not using the phone. A friend of mine told me that he was experiencing the same problem, and that somehow it was resolved by turning on 3G.
    4. Data connection, for Emails and apps, became much slower than before.
    5. Happened once: Somebody sent me a text message, and my iPhone kept on receiving that same message every three minutes for an entire morning.
A 3.1 update that solves the above problem, any fellow user tips that solve the above problem, or a Palm Pre discount gift card would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I seriously doubt the performance would be any slower. There would be no point. I am sure in 3 or 4 iphones time the OS will be so advanced that the 3G iphone and it's 128mb RAM would not be able to run it. Just specualating, but by then the 3G will be long gone. I have the white 3G 16GB which has been discontinued now. That's why i am not getting the 3GS coz mine is quite rare now.

  • IPod Touch with iPhone 2.0 software

Quite recently, my uncle gave me his iPod touch (1st Generation) as a Christmas present because he was going to buy an iPhone 3G. I already have an iPhone, so I was wondering if the software used on it is compatible with my Touch. I don't wanna spend ten bucks for something that may as well be free. Do I really need to buy the software? Or is the one on my iPhone the same for my Touch?

Many people are having the same problem -- they can't install the 2.0 update. There's a huge thread about it here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1598985
Apple is aware people are having problems (according Ronald in iTunes Customer Support) but hasn't offered any real solutions yet. They keep sending people to the same online support tips, which usually don't work.
The best you can hope for is to restore to an earlier version. iTunes will keep trying to install the 2.0 update by default. To get around this, you need to hold down the <Shift> key while clicking the "Restore" button in iTunes. This will open a dialog box where you can select the necessary *.ipsw file. On Windows XP, these are located in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\
    iTunes\iPod Software
I was able to restore back to my last version, which was iPod1,11.1.4_4A102Restore.ipsw
    Hope this helps you out.

  • Georgian keyboard and language support in Ipad/Iphone

    Dear Sir/Madam
My concern is about official support of Georgian keyboard and language in all Apple products. Please add Georgian keyboard and language in Ipad/Iphone devices, because a lot of people are using Ipad/Iphone in Georgia and this issue is still out of support and assistance. I wish to receive any helpful information regarding this topic.

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here (there are too many forums/threads/messages for Apple to monitor them). If you want to leave feedback for Apple then you can do so here : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html (but note that they don't reply to feedback).

  • IPhone 3G Arabic Language support

    Dear Freinds,
I've purchase iphone 3G in Dubai but it doesn't have arabic support. Can anyone guide me where I can get the software. Some shops are installing this software but charging a lot of money.
    Appriciate it.
    Mahmoud

Until Apple releases an update, you cannot get Arabic language support.
Shops that are "offering" software are hacking the phones which voids the warranty and prevents you from updating the phone when new firmware is released.

  • Possible iPhone bug with custom recurring day schedule?  Need help.

In Microsoft Outlook I have a 64 day schedule that is set up as single all day recurring events each day. Each day of the 64 day schedule recurrs every 64 days. Day 1 recurrs every 64 days, day 2 recurrs every 64 days, etc., etc.
When I synced this to an iPhone, each day had an incorrect custom recurring day set at every 18 days. This, of course threw off the whole schedule. After doing some testing, I found out that a custom recurr of 45 days worked, a custom recurr of 46 days told the iPhone it recurred every 1 day. 47 day recurr did the same thing. 48 day recurr told the iPhone it recurred every 2 days, 49 day recurr became 3 days, 50 became 4 days, 51 became 5 days...64 became 18 days.
Is this indeed a bug with iPhone or is there something I can do for a single 1 day event recurr every 64 days? And, why is there no custom setting when setting up an event on the iPhone?

Apparently, no one has a solution for you. It may be a bona fide bug. You can let Apple know about that:

  • Nasty HTML / Outlook 2007 Bug in iPhone 2.0?

Anyone else notice a nasty HTML / Outlook 2007 bug with iPhone 2.0? I've pasted the bug that I submitted to Apple below. So far I've gotten no response. =(
    Summary:
I have found a major bug with sending and receiving HTML emails between iPhone 2.0 and Outlook 2007. When you reply to any email that comes from Outlook 2007 that reply will include broken HTML tags as part of the message. As a result, with each additional reply the message will double in size. It appears these additional replies hit the broken HTML tag and then insert another entire copy of the email. This happens with each and every reply, until after four or five when the phone can no longer deal with the message due to size.
    Steps to Reproduce:
Send an email with HTML formatting to yourself using Outlook 2007.
Reply to the message from the iPhone. The first reply will be fine.
Reply using Outlook 2007 (make sure the formatting is still HTML).
Reply to the message from the iPhone. This reply will include broken HTML tags, and begin the repeat copies inside the email.
    Expected Results:
No formatting issues on replies, no repeat copies of the email inside each reply causing unusable message size growth.
    Actual Results:
Broken HTML tags appear in the replies and cause the message to double in size with each reply. An example of some of the tags that show up are things like:
    color:#1F497D">
    or
    font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";font-weight:bold">
They do not have the starting "<", which appears to be the root of the issue. These tags will show up near special HTML formatting, such as links or font changes.
    Regression:
The problem always happens on iPhone 2.0 when an HTML formatted reply Outlook 2007 is part of the email chain. This appears to happen with all types of accounts.
    Notes:
I'm assuming that with as many people that use Outlook 2007 I'm not the only person to report this. Our company uses Outlook 2007 as a standard deployment and this bug alone is making us unable to deploy iPhones to employees. I'm really hoping that a fix is already in the works and will be in the next update of 2.0!
    Thanks.

    eric9603,
Have you been able to reproduce this with emails back and forth with any other Mail client besides Outlook that composes in HTML?
Outlook 2007 does not use a browser based HTML generator or renderer. It uses Word's HTML engine for both generating and rendering HTML messages.
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Anyone having screen bugs with iOS 5?  it seems the tactile screen goes crazy in Apple iOS software, i tried reinstalling, but the same thing happens. NB iPhone 4

It seems the tactile screen goes crazy in Apple iOS software, I tried reinstalling iOS 5, but the same thing happens.  When I start typing, for wxample in messaging app, I'll press a letter, and several other letters are typed... and at times, the app just closes....
My issue is with iPhone 4.
    Thanks

    Issue confirmed.
I tried dialing in five times with each of the following settings:
Connecting on LTE (with no confirmation boop-boop tone that I'm on the 3G Extender):  the telecon login worked five out of five times.  This is impractical for me as I have wretched LTE signal where I live and it snaps hard over to 1x signal every 2-5 minutes and drops my call.  That's why I got an extender!
Connecting on 3G (after a #48 positive confirmation boop-boop tone that I'm on the 3G Extender):  telecon login worked zero out of five times.  I had stellar 3G signal, but the 'overdialing' DTMF problem was consistent and I was unable to connect to the telecon service.
Thanks for the quick reply.  What do we try next?

  • Second-party software problem? Firefox language support?

Please reply if you can help: CJ Hinke <[email protected]>
Installed Leopard and only reinstalled the latest versions of second-party software. Did away with MS Office and Adobe CS3. First primary problem logged: suddenly Firefox can't read Thai language (all Thai characters replaced with question marks)--has anyone else had language support disappear?
SMARTreporter gives a green light to the hardware.
Applications both native Apple and second party keep crashing on launch. Appended below is a partial copy of the Bug Report. All appl crashes seem to hinge on the following problem:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000007
    Crashed Thread: 0
Often I can keep relaunching until the appl 'takes'. I'm getting royally tired of this and of deleting my caches over & over (which doesn't work nearly every time). TextEdit, Safari, Quicktime, Terminal, System Preferences, Disk Utility have crashed (and one or two others), not every time but sometimes; so have non-Apple appls: Wired Client, VLC. Even 'Reset' Safari to no apparent improvement. Don't use Dashboard & all my widgets still seem to be there.
On the Apple side, I have installed iLife and iWork '08 which I use as alternatives to MS.
    Non-Apple, I use:
    Acrobat 8
    StuffIt 12
    Toast 8.0.1
    VLC
EPSON Scan (haven't tried it yet)
    SMARTreporter 2.3.2
MenuMeters (menubar item to display network connection, IP, etc.)
    Growl
    GrowlDict
    GrowlTunes
    HardwareGrowler
    Set to open on Start-up:
DragThing 5.6.4 (layered dock alternative I really like)
Time Palette 5.7.7 (selected cities time display I really like)
Meteorologist (displays weather for several cities)
Desktility (saves & restores icon positions on Desktop for my many disks)
    Internet stuff I use regularly:
    Transmission (BT P2P client)
    Speed Download (d/l manager)
Wired Client (connects to a remote server)
Fetch (FTP client, haven't tried it yet)
Unison (Usenet, haven't tried it yet)
All are latest versions with only a few exceptions and all were mostly trouble-free in Tiger. This seems like a pretty light list.
In Tiger, occasionally my browser wouldn't connect to a common site, say, Google or The New York Times. Continuing to do this in Leopard. And now it's harder to get things running just by deleting the caches (over & over). Couldn't even send numerous bug reports to Apple!
(A little background about my 'net connection might be in order here. In my neighbourhood, I can't buy more than 512kbps--more than four kms from the switch, I'm told. Often my actual speed is more like 56k dial-up. Could the slow speeds be part of the problem?)
Really wish I hadn't 'upgraded'! I'm beginning to think Apple is using us as beta testers for a system that wasn't a stable release yet. I'm seriously considering reinstalling Tiger--don't see any other solution. Or perhaps Leopard just wasn't intended for PPCs. I'm having as much difficulty as with the anteDeluvian OS 9!
My intuition as a non-geek but Mac user since 1984 that conflicts with Safari are at the root of these problems. I have now uninstalled almost all second-party software and will reinstall one-by-one as I need to use it to find out if there's one culprit among them.
    Rots of ruck!

  • Language Support for iPhone

I just got the iphone this morning. Its pretty good, except for two big problems. One is the EDGE network, which is slow, but nothing to be done about that.
The second is the lack of language support. I expected it to support the languages that OS X does, but it seems that the iphone is most limited in this regard. Of particular irritation to me is the lack of Hebrew support, as a good chunk of my iTunes library is in hebrew. In addition, websites don't render correctly with unsupported languages...
Is this going to be fixed? soon?!

    Tom,
The limitation seems to be one of the 4 included encodings that are in Mac OSX's version of Safari, but not supported by iPhone's Mail interface. I received 6 emails from Japan (thru the iPhone's Yahoo mail interface) and one of them came in as junk characters. In a browser, you can just keep trying the other encodings to make the junk characters readable-this is not possible (from what I can tell) within iPhone's mail interface.
If I have time, I will log into the Yahoo mail account directly thru Safari on the iPhone, to see if that works better than iPhone mail-but I'm assuming they use a similar encoding scheme. I also assume that once they release the iPhone in Japan, this will be addressed
