Language switching

My wife has to stay home for health reason and she got a hold of my windows laptop and got malware even though she normally is cautious but....now that I need a new laptop it make's me thinking into swapping to a macbook pro instead of a Windows machine, i have more then a few questions answered but.....since I live in Quebec and that i work in a french environment, I was always using an english version of Windows then changing my regional settingds for french keyboard so I have no problems in Word, Excel and the others...I was always more comfortable with the english OS otherwise....With Mac Os will there be any problem is I take the english version, is there a place to switch the type of keyboard used ?? I'm I better to order the french version and keep everything in french ?
Thank's

I have no experience in switching languages so I cannot answer that question. I suggest you post your question in the OS X forums:

  • Language switched from English to Danish

    When my wife first attached her iPhone to her Mac (running iTunes 9), the language switched from English to Danish. After syncing, she reset the language back to English. But why? A known problem?
    I did the same thing with my iPhone and Mac, and did not see anything unusual.

    I believe this is a very unusual occurrence. It is a computer after all and computers have 'glitches' every once in a while - chalk it up to that.
    BTW, I used to live in Bucks County... Riegelsville and Perkasie to be exact. We moved from Perkasie a couple years ago.

  • Change Language Switching Shortcut in Windows 8

    Language switching shortcut is set to "Win + Space", but I want to disable win key through registry and remap the "Win + Space"
    to "left Ctrl + Space" as Windows 7, which is not listed under
    “Change langrage bar hot keys”. How
    could I do this?

    Hi,
    This function is by design. For more information regarding keyboard shortcuts, please see:
    Keyboard shortcuts
    As maelwliams suggested above, we might change the switch input language hot keys to ctrl+shift. Click the Change language bar hot keys->on the advanced key settings tab->click Change key sequence, then select in the switch input language.
    And if we want to change the default behavior of those hotkeys, then we may consider to seek help in some developer forums for a better help.

  • Language switching shortcut is really slow

    Hi!
    I'm using Cyrillic and Canadian English languages on my MacBook Pro. I set up a shortcut (Command+Space) to switch between them (Spotlight shortcut is disabled). The problem is that switching is painfully slow. When I hit the shortcut it takes about 10 seconds for the flag to change. The same happens when I move around application windows. I'm using separate input methods for all the documents. Taking into account the fact, that I do not really understand what is a "document" here, the language switching turns into total nightmare when I do not know which language I currently have in any particular window. I've been using OSX for about 4 years now and this is the only issue which drives me nuts royally. Does anyone else experience this and what is the solution?
    Thanks!
    A.
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    I've never heard of the slowness issue, but you can always tell what keyboard layout is active via the "flag" at the top right of the Finder. If you don't have this, check the box for "show input menu in Finder" in system prefs/international/input menu.

  • Keyboard UI improvement request: A better Language Switch is really needed!

    Hello Support,
    In bilingual environment like I have in Russia, current Lang Switch is definitely the weakest part of on-screen keyboard, which is disastrous to otherwise excellent typing experience.
    Please consider changing that so that one-step (NOT two-step) switching is possible, e.g.
    (а)adding a dedicated key/indicator (as in WP8 / iPad / some Symbians, etc...)
    (b)something like 'swipe space horizontally to switch the language' (as in Android)
    I believe the issue is relevant not for Russia only.
    Late 10.0.1 versions (like .4633 leaks or so) made situation even worse:
    initially, the order of a languages in pop-up list was constant, which allowed to switch to a needed language rather fast
    currently, the list order is constantly changing based on current language, which is VERY inconsistent.
    Env: Z10 STL100-2, various 10.0 and 10.1 firmware, Russian locale, Beeline.
    And, with keyboard devices like future Q10  etc, the best option is adding a dedicated switch button. Please consider that for future devices!
    Hoping for better typing experience,
    Cheers,
    Alex

  • Automatic language switch [Angry poster]

    I've just finished my Spanish homework in my 2013 Microsoft Word, and it wasn't pleasant. I study Biochemistry along with English, Spanish, German and my native language. What gets me worked up and really has me table-flipping angry, is that every time I
    hit 'enter', the language flips over to Danish.
    This means I have to stare at daunting red lines in every sentence, SELECT
    it when I'm done, and flip it over to Spanish again, writing in Spanish is worst, because of the way sentences using question/exclamation marks are written, it can't function without the Word dictionary co-operating. Word nowadays has no limits to
    how helpful it thinks it is, so of course it'll do these small changes here and there.
    Now of course I've read up on it, and reached some kind of solution, which is changing my keyboard to whichever language I'm using. You might argue that this is the way things are most convenient for others, but I'm not asking for much here. I'm asking for
    Word to NOT change the language every time I hit enter, and that shouldn't mean having to learn where all the necessary symbols are,
    for every language I speak. I have no idea who came up with this idea or concept, but it's the stupidest and most crippling mistake in any software I've ever purchased. I have no idea how it's supposed to work for international students such
    as myself.
    So what I'm looking for is a way to select the language in a Word document, and have it stay that way, until I change it. I'd love it if Word could figure out that I'm trying to switch languages after 3 or 4 words, and back again if I was citing, but I know
    what to expect. I'm already pissed as it is with these blue lines telling me that English can only be written one way. Let's see how big an explosion comes from the red lines turning on me as well.

    I'm not quite sure if I have understood you correctly. What do you mean by "select the language in word", do you mean the proofing language?
    If yes, I would suggest you clear the "Detect language automatically" option, in the Language dialog box (Review tab>Language>Set Proofing Language). This will help to prevent Word from changing
    the language.
    Hope this is what you want.

  • Unwanted keyboard language switch when Firefox/Thunderbird is selected

    Here is a problem that I think I've had in the past, but I just can't recall how I resolved it, or find any references to it in the forum archives:
    Recently I reconfigured the keyboard language input menu because I switched to a different keyboard; it now has U.S. Extended, Norwegian and a 3rd map that I've defined myself. I can mostly switch quite all right between these (and the one I've defined myself works, too), but I have one very annoying problem:
    Whenever I select a Mozilla Firefox or Thunderbird window, the language setting switches to U.S. Extended (if a different one was selected.) That is, if I work in a different application with e.g. my custom map selected, then start Firefox, I notice that the flag icon changes and that I get the US layout. I can then switch back to a different one and work with the corresponding layout in Firefox. If, however, I raise another application's window, then go back to Firefox, I find that language is once again set to U.S. Extendended. The same thing happens with Thunderbird.
    Any idea what is wrong?

    I haven't read your code, but can make a guess at what's going wrong. Checkboxes do behave in a weird manner depending upon whether you have selected one or many.
    Assuming this is the statement where you are generating the checkbox :
    <input type="checkbox" name="checkBoxName" value="<%= someValue %>">
    What you could do is read the checked checkBoxes in an array :
    String[] values = request.getParameterValues("checkBoxName");
    int sizeOfValues = values.length;
    Then use the sizeOfValues to perform your delete action :
    if (sizeOfValues==1)
         performDelete();
    else
         for (int i=0; i<sizeOfValues(); i++)
              performDelete();
    Hope this technique works.

  • Language switched to Arabic

    I know this has been asked repeatedly, but the answers have not been helpful to me.  It does not help to show me screenshots in English when the Arabic toolbar has more links that the English one and nothing matches up.  If using screenshots, please post them in Arabis so I can actually match them up to what I see on my screen.
    So, how do I switch back to English?
    Apologies if I sound annoyed, but I am.  It switched in the middle of a job interview and was exteremly troubling.  I was communicating with people in New York and none of us have any dealings with people who use Arabic, as far as we knew.

    The above answer only deals with the Skype client for Windows. When I try to check my account through a browser, by going to Skype.com, the page displays in Arabic. I cannot find a way to change it. My browser's (Chrome) language is set to English.
    Any suggestions?
    At the bottom right corner you should see the language selection box. Click on the arrow and select English.

  • Dynamic language switching

    HI,
    there is a way to make a text in a edge project switch to foreign languages on load? maybe with external XML and javascript? I have to make a web app with edge in more than one language and I can't make a copy of the html for any of language in order to save the weight of the app

    Does each customer mean each user, or are there many users for each customer?
    <p>
    2) doableIn general you can use a TopLink DatabaseSession for each user/customer. You can use the same TopLink Project but can use a different login for each session you create.
    <p>
    If you have many users for each customer, you could potentially use a different TopLink ServerSession for each customer and allow the users to benifit from connection pooling and caching.
    <p>
    If you are using JPA, there is no easy way to do this currently. You could create the ServerSession yourself and then wrap it yourself with the TopLink EnitityManager implementation. You could use the same TopLink Project from your JPA persistent unit ServerSession and use a different login in your new ServerSession. If each customer has only one user then you could use a connection pool with only 1 connection.
    <p>
    1) a bad idea<p>
    This is probably not a good idea. You avoid being able to share resources such as connection pools across your customers, and cannot share data. But it depends on how many customers you have and how distinct they are. Having each customer run on different databases allows you to have a different machine and application server for each customer, which you may need depending on how each customer scales. If you end up having a different server for each customer, then you could just have a single persistence unit in your application and change the persistence.xml or data-source when you deploy a new customer server.

  • Language switch

    How to switch between two languages on Macpro using a keyboard? I've tried command+space but it's not working.

    Go to system preferences/keyboard/shortcuts and make sure this one is activated and also that the same one used sometimes by Spotlight is not activated.

  • System language switch

    I would to change time to time system language.... in my spare time I use to translate many apps into Spanish...
    since now this was easy... I rum system in Spanish on my mac pro and English ( with an English keyboard) on my macbook 17 ... but now I need French too...
    for apps, no problem, I go to system preferences and I switch to desired language..
    I need to check system terms, because many translations are literal and sound unusual for they language.

    Tom Gewecke wrote:
    To change the OS language you go to system prefs/language & text/languages, put the language you want at the top of the list, and the logout/login.
    You can also set up additional user accounts in different languages and switch to them using fast user switching.
    many thanks, I have always thought that this preference worked only at application level...

  • Language switching on Robot?

    Hi,
    my Windows XP is German, so if i do:
    Robot r = new Robot();
    r.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_SHIFT);
    r.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_2);
    i get a ", because the Shift Action of 2 is ". If I am on an english OS, the robot should do a @ instead of the ". Is the AWT able to do this automatically or do I have to tell him, that he's on a English OS?
    This Questions seems to be really stupid, but i have no possibility to check this on an English OS :-(
    Thanks for every answer!

    I once looked for a way to switch the keyboard language with Java - but unsuccessfully. I guess the only way to do this is to launch a system command (JNI).
    Or you have to map keys yourself according to the system properties user.country and user.language.
    In any case, setting the default locale will not change your keyboard language.
    If you decide and manage to switch the keyboard language, please let me know.

  • App Store language switches after update to iOS6

    I just updated to iOS 6. The problem is that while all language settings on my iPhone, iTunes and Apple ID are set to English, the App Store suddenly switched to Dutch. I'm originally from there, now living in the U.S., so a long time ago I probably had it set to Dutch somewhere. This was never a problem, in the previous iOS everything was running smoothly. Because of this switch of language I can't seem to download or update anything in the App Store. I get a prompt saying "Your account can't be used for the store for Dutch. You need to switch to the Dutch store before you can purchase". But I don't want to use the Dutch store! Can anyone help?
    Thanks a lot!

    You need a credit card issued for the country and an address of that country if you want to purchased from that country Apple Store due to copyright reason.

  • The language switch

    I have both Rusain and English variants of keyboard. Mostly I work with Russian texts. Before long I switched the languages according to the instruction. But recently the keyboard started to switch from Russian to English all by itself. It is impossible to work when I should return to Russain language every minute and sometimes every few seconds. What sould I do to settle the problem?

    Switch using keyboard shortcuts
    To select the input source (language) you previously used, press Command-Space bar.
    To select the next input source in the Input menu, press Command-Option-Space bar.
