Lapel mic for recorder app

I bought a voice recorder app and I need a lapel microphone that will plug directly into the headset jack. I don't want to use the mic on the iPhone headset as presenters won't want to have to wear headphones when talking. I want to record conference presentations and many presenters in my field like to walk around when talking. Therefore, a lecturn mic is not suitable.
If you have used a specific lapel mic with the iPhone then I would be pleased to hear from you.
Grant.

I've used a couple of Sennheiser kits. They're good mics. Essentially you'd have a 9v powered transmitter that attaches to the talent (belt/pocket), then connects to the lav on the talent. Then a 9v powered receiver that will have an XLR connector cable that plugs into the camera. You can usually find camera mounts that the receiver sits in to keep it from jostling around, or just strap it down.
If you purchase a quality camera that accepts XLR or at least a camera that works with an XLR adapter plate (Canon GL1, GL2..etc...the plate mounts under the camera and then connects to the tripod) like this...

...that adapter would work with wired/wireless XLR units for a non-XLR camera.
You should also consider utilizing the wired Rode mics whenever possible. All in all, you should get a better signal from them than wireless, when shooting situations warrant their usability.

  • Best mic for recording live music with video ipod?

i believe there are mics for recording sound, and believe there are even some which are made for great sound quality such as live music.
if so, which one is the best?
    thanks.

This is sort of like asking what is the best motorized vehicle.
There are different mikes for different purposes, instruments, etc. I'd get on Google and look for recording websites.
Myself, I like various Neumann's for certain applications.

  • Best all-purpose condensor mic for recording with Logic

    Hey everyone,
I'm just about ready to purchase Logic Pro and a MOTU Traveler and I am on the prowel for the best all-purpose condensor mic to record with ($500-650 is my budget).
I would like to be able to record vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, primarily. Does anyone have suggestions? Thank you.

it's going to be hard to find a good mic that is well suited to all 3 of those applications. Sure you can find stuff that will "work" on anything, and for that I would definately look at the Rode mics. But if you are willing to save up a bit more I would highly recommend the following:
    Rode NTK for vocals
Peluso CMEC-6 small diaphragm condensers (about $580 for a matched pair) - these are amazing acoustic gtr, drum overheads, etc. mics. Also, I've used them for electric guitar cabinets and they sound great there too.
    SM57 for electric guitar
These 4 mics will give you a lot of options. For instance:
vocal/acoustic gutiar together (NTK and Pelusos)
Electric guitar (SM 57 on speaker cone with either a Peluso a few inches away from the speaker or NTK a couple of feet away for body)
Drums (NTK a couple of feet off of kit, Pelusos as overheads, 57 on snare, which would actually give you a really great drum sound in a good room with a good kit)
Obviously this is almost twice your budget. You could start out with the NTK if the vocals are most important to you, or the pelusos if acoustic gtr is most important, and add on the other mics later. The 57 is super cheap and really needs to be in anyone's mic locker. I also recommend an old Shure 545 which is the predecessor to the 57. You can find them on ebay for under $50 (make sure that you get the low-z version with XLR connector, not the high-z with 1/4" connector) and they sound like a 57 but a bit warmer and smoother. They are really great electric guitar mics.

  • How do I set up my mic for recording?

I'm running Audition1.5 and the sound quality is terrible.  I'm running my mic (Shure SM58) through a MobilePRE USB preamp.  When I record my voice its muddy and hollow sounding.  What am I doing wrong? I know I must be missing some settings but I'm not familiar enough with the product to put it all together.

Well, since Audition - all versions - is transparent, then it's not the software that's causing your problems...

I don't know a lot about MobilePRE's except that they have an internal monitoring path (presumably to a headphone socket), and that there's some sort of software control over this in terms of what inputs it uses. What it sounds as though you've got is a digital feedback path in the system somewhere which is mixing a latency-delayed version of your mic signal with the direct signal - because your description (the hollow-sounding bit, anyway) fits that case pretty well. But since AA1.5 doesn't actually provide a monitor return signal in the way that later versions do, I'm at a bit of a loss to explain how this could be, without having it all in front of me.
But it's not the software - this just uses the Windows API and DLLs to record, and in that sense it's the same as using Windows Recorder. And in fact, Windows Recorder is the next thing you should try - just to see if it does the same thing. I think it will, FWIW!

  • Best Headset Mic for Podcasting in Garageband?

What is the best headset mic for recording a podcast with Garageband '08?

The Logitech ClearChat Pro USB headset works pretty well for me. Just make sure the mic is far enough away where you're not going to be breathing directly into it. To really make the tracks sound studio-quality, add a Compressor (with vocal presets) and possible a Gate to the vocal track of your podcast in GarageBand.

  • USB mic for talkback

    Hello
I have recently built a small home studio with a isolation booth.
I do not have many inputs on my interface therefore did not want to use an input(and a mic) for talkback
I thought a USB mic would be the solution.
I purchased a Logitech AK5370 but cannot hear/monitor myself. I have a line level reading, I can record my voice and play it back but cannot hear it in reatime.
I have read on forums of people having the exact opposite problem. That is they can hear themselves but cannot record their voice. I have no intention of using this mic for recording but thought it would be a cheap easy solution to my talkback problem. Wrong!
Unfortunately I am still running Panther and will be for some time therefore I do not have the audio aggregate tab in my midi audio set up. I tried using speech to no avail. Then used Garageband arming the track in record mode just to monitor my voice. I have a line level but can't hear myself. If I then record I can hear the result when played back but nothing at the time.
In my head I thought this would be so easy.
Has anyone tried this as a talkback mic or have any simple solutions?
    Thank You

It sounds like you have the input monitoring options set the opposite way round from how you need them.
    +Audio > Audio Hardware & Drivers > Software Monitoring+
    _Software Monitoring_
This option allows you to switch Software Monitoring (listening to the actual input signal) on or off. Please note that with Software Monitoring active, the audio signal is processed via software—a certain amount of audible delay (commonly referred to as “latency”) is inevitable. If you are listening to the recorded signal through your mixing desk, or your audio hardware supports hardware monitoring, you should switch this option off.
    _Auto Input Monitoring_
Input monitoring allows you to determine what signal is heard on record-enabled tracks. If Auto Input Monitoring is switched on, you will only hear the input signal during the actual recording—before and afterwards, you’ll hear the previously recorded audio on the track, while the sequencer is running. This helps you judge drop-in and drop-out points for punch recording. If Auto Input Monitoring is switched off, you will always hear the input signal. Auto Input Monitoring, when switched on, also allows you to hear the input source when Logic is stopped, making it easy to set levels.
    _Switching Auto Input Monitoring on/off_
Click-holding the Record button (Transport window) opens the Record menu, where you can toggle Auto Input monitoring. You can also use the Toggle Auto Input Monitoring key command, or enable it from the Audio menu.
    _Possible Problems with Input Monitoring_
Typical problems that can arise with record-enabled tracks:
    • Singers cannot hear themselves while Logic is running. All they can hear is the old recording. Switch off Auto Input Monitoring.
    • The track cannot be heard, even though Logic is not actually recording. Switch on Auto Input Monitoring.
Depending on the situation, both options can be useful. Normally, Auto Input Monitoring is switched on, and is only switched off in special situations. Whenever you are doing punch recording (punch on the fly), you should switch Auto Input Monitoring on.
However, even if you do switch your monitor settings, you may still have a logistical problem in that for anyone else to hear your talkback, you will usually have to be in Record mode in Logic. To get around the inconvenience of this, you might like to make sure your mic does not appear as an input option at all, but is routed through another application (I expect iChat would work). It can be done in Logic, of course, but it isn't very convenient for continued use.

  • Is there a voice recording app for ipad that shares directly via iMessage (not just email) - like voice memos does on iphone?

Does any-one perhaps know whether there's a voice recording app for ipad that shares directly via iMessage (not just email) - like voice memo does on iphone?

You can't do anything in the background of iOS. Apps are still one at a time (with a few exceptions like Music), and suspend when the app is closed. It's also against the App Store guidelines to sell apps that would allow such actions.
Though, maybe you could get your Voice Memos saved to MP3's, which can play in the background of other apps.

  • Looking for a Telephone call recorder app

I have tried a few  telephone call recorder apps on my droid X and they just don't seem to work. They are great when the Doctor calls with test results when you are driving.

There are lots of different recording applications on the Android Market Place.
You can go to the Android Market Place on the device,  then go to search to find these applications.
Here are two of the higher rated call recording applications:
    Phone Recorder
    Android Recorder
Android Market Place Applications are not  provided by Verizon Wireless and direct support for applications is not offered.

  • Lapel mic, wired to digital recorder (in pocket!)...

Don't laugh... I'm new to video and I'm just testing stuff at the moment...
Ok, I've taken some footage (on a relatively basic camcorder), brought it into FCP, edited it, run it through Compressor and put it on a webpage (which will be my final destination when I'm up to speed and ready with my 'real' content). In fact, I'm really pleased with the image but... no surprise, the audio is lousy.
The way I see it is that what separates the wheat from the chaff in any sort of video production is really the audio, rather than the image. So, without spending a fortune, I'd like - at least during this testing phase - to get come reasonable audio to add to the imagery. This is clearly not possible on the crap mics in camcorders.
In short, I thought of wiring a lapel mic to a little Edirol R-09 (which I already own) which my subject would have in his or her pocket (or attached to his/her belt behind, etc).
Is this likely to give me any kind of decent result? I googled lapel mics and the possibilities seem to be endless, not least 'cos there are lots of wireless ones, too, which I'm not really interested in at the moment.
    Any thoughts/suggestions?
    TIA,
    Hugh

  • For the iPad 2. Why don't they make a recording app just like the iPod or iPhone ?

I have an iPad 2. I want to know why there isn't a recording app that isn't on for factory apps? Can they make an update or something for one?

I'm sure they "can" do it.  It's up to Apple if they "will."
