Laptop, 4 month old, black screen

Hi
My Hp 14-n047ca, Win 8, 64 bit, 8 Gb ram has a black screen.
The power button and wireless button are lit. The keyboard is not back lighted.
I have taken out the ram and placed in the other slot. When I was doing this, this wire came off but it looks like it just pops back on
I have removed battery, power cord, held power button for 60 seconds, placed battery back in and then power cord, and powered on. The blue HP screen was appearing but I just noticed that it isnt appearing when the power button is turned on.
I also did the previous step without the battery.
Here is a photo www3.telus.net/m1000/laptop.jpg
1. connector attached
2. one side of the connector
3. other side of the connector
4. the wirees back in place after I took photos 3 & 4
I would appreciate any help with my '4 motnh old' ;-)
Thank you
Mark

I think the wire that came off is the wireless card. Your laptop is only 4 months old so you still have 8 months of warranty left. I would request service.

  • C700 Laptop: Not booting: Black screen: No BIOS

My 4 years old Compaq Presario c700 (C794) laptop is not booting up. Does not go into BIOS, and does not even show the message “Press F10 to enter BIOS” etc.
I see a clear black screen (but has backlit and I am able to adjust the brightness using Fn keys). Tried on the desktop monitor, it is black too.
The HD is running intermittently, all LEDs are on, and the fan is running.
Windows is not booting up, there is no log on sound. WIFI light is also orange, it becomes green after booting is complete. HD activity is on but it is not as much to boot up Windows 7.
    Troubleshooting I did till now:
Hard reset by holding down the power button several times.
Cleaned RAM and placed it in another slot.
Removed the power and battery and kept it overnight.
Tried on the desktop monitor, it is black too.
This happened all of a sudden. I did not do any BIOS updates or anything that normally causes these kind of problem. I learned from some forums that an exhausted CMOS battery can cause it. Is it true? In this case, can you please give the location of the CMOS battery in these laptops?
What are the other measures I can take?

    Hello again Hazarika.

    Hello,
I dont know how to fix my hp pavilion dv6 laptop.
The laptop is working, have the necessary sounds after i
turn it on,but the problem is that the screen stays always black
..I connect the lap top to tv screen or external monitor and it shows that everything is working properly.
The laptop may have hit a hard surface. The laptop worked well until about 1 week ago when I turned it on and the screen was hazy at first. I turned it off and turned it back on and the screen was completely black but still had the start-up sound. Someone suggested I see if it works on an external monitor and that worked.
Does anyone kow how I can fix the black screen of my hp pavilion dv6 laptop?

  • Black screen after downloading TV show from itunes

HI. Downloaded an TV episode from itunes store. Loaded it onto laptop. Played ep and made sure it worked on laptop. Then stopped it but went back a few days later to play it. Connected laptop and TV with a HDMI cable but all it has on the laptop is a black screen with a toolbar top and bottom. Has the title of the ep and the time playing but no pik or audio. Doesn't matter whether it is connected to TV or just on laptop won't play but yet it played a few days earlier...
    Help?
Also when I download a tv ep it dowbnloads two episodes, hd and sd and both are eating into my internet usuage. Is there anyway to download just one or do both need to be downloaded? Downloaded 13 ep of a season and it fully used my entire months internet allowance ;P
    Toddoz

I need help with a similar issue. I downloaded one tv episode with no problems. The 2nd one I tried, I got error code 8008. I emailed iTunes Help and they gave me the instructions to delete the temporary files, restart my computer, and sign back in to iTunes and check for available updates. After doing this, I got one more to go through. I then bought another episode, and after the same problems, finally got it to go through. I was also told to check my firewall, Anti-Virus software, and any Ad-ware software because I could get 2 more episodes to download. I disabled and uninstalled what I could and tried again, with no luck. I looked last night, and the 2 episodes that won't download are in my TV Shows category under my Library heading, but they won't sync to my iPod. When I look at them in the Purchased category, they are dimmed and it won't let me do anything with them. So far, I haven't heard anything from Support.

  • Vertical lines, otherwise black screen....... help?

Hello all. I'd like to toss in a different spin on the old 'black screen of death' discussion. My Imac (G4, 1Ghz, 15") does something a little different. Upon startup, my screen comes up black, except for a row of vertical lines about 2" wide near the left side of the screen. They are all different colors, and change every time it boots, but almost always in the same place. Also, after it's on for a few seconds, the whole screen gradually blooms white from right to left, and as soon as the screen is all white, black creeps back in, from right to left. At that point, the screen stays black with the exception of the vertical lines. Here's what I've done so far:
-Checked external video - everything is A-ok, perfect screen on external monitor.
-Disassembled the base and checked cable connections - all cables appear to be snugly connected to the logic board.
-Disassembled the LCD display - All connections behind the LCD are intact.
What gives? Any ideas? Could it simply be a defective LCD given the external works fine? The screen reminds me of what G3 Ibooks do when the cabling is damaged, but I can't see visible damage anywhere. An inverter maybe?
I've been a PC technician for years, with a ton of Apple laptop experience, but this is my first Apple 'home' unit and I'd like to be able to use it again! For now I've confiscated the wife's Ibook. Can anyone help?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Ibook G4 (wife's), iBook clamshell (junior's)

Well, that's so odd; but it sounds hardware all right.
I'd be worried about availability of parts or a new/reman logicboard if the
video component can't be replaced or found as a separate component.
If you have access to a tech service manual, as was once available in
a PDF format and would have been an original Apple proprietary docu-
ment, you could see the exploded view of the parts and also some good
step-by-step troubleshooting. Of course, since the repair ultimately is to
replace any suspected defective parts, you'd need a few extras on hand.

  • Screen problems - black screen and lock-up (plus HDMI issues)

Hi, I'm not sure if these are related to the same fundamental issue, but they are both serious problems that need resolution.
I have a new mid-2012 MBPretina.  I am on all the latest updates (10.8.2).
The first problem is the most recent, and the most serious problem.  Since I updated the Java a couple of days ago I've been experiencing random black screens and lock-ups.  Essentially, what happens is that sometimes when I perform an action (opening an app, clicking a link on a webpage, performing other kinds of in-app actions, etc.) the computer screen will go black.  About half the time I can, through my own memory, try keyboard combinations to quit or force quit the most recently used app (the one where the action was just performed), and I will get some glimpse of the underlying apps, while the menubar and other areas will remain black until I move a window on top of the black space.  Sometimes no key combinations work and I am forced to perform a hard restart with the power button.  This is a serious issue, obviously, since I will lose current work/progress in my apps.  I'm not sure if this is because of the new Java update, or has to do with something else, but it started happening shortly thereafter, over the last 2 days.  I work most of my waking day on my laptop, and this "black screen of death" has happened about 5 or 6 times a day.
The second problem I have been experiencing since I starting using my MBPr with external HDMI displays in August/September.  The problem is that I will plug the MBPr into an HDMI display, the screen will temporaliy go black, and then bring me to the login screen (as if it's crashing, albeit softly).  This happens about 1 out of 4 times nowadays.
How can I fix these problems, especially the first?

    UPDATE:
Clearly there's a problem because a third of the way through a clean reinstallation from scratch it black screened again. Hmmmm.
Now this is not good. Problem is I can't rule out potential updates from Apple that might have caused this either.
    The search for solutions continues.

  • YouTube 3D playback with black screen

I have desktop and laptop Win 7 Pro 64-bit computers both with latest Firefox and Adobe Flash Player.  YouTube 3D videos (latest squashed format) playback fine on laptop but have black screen on desktop.  I tried older version of Flash Player and disabling hardware accelaration on desktop which did not fix problem.  The 3D button responds with "An error occurred, please try again later." only on the desktop.  The laptop works fine.  The same problem applies to the latest IE with the latest Flash Player on the desktop.  I am looking for new suggestions to fix problem.

I just tried to install Premiere on my new MacBook Pro as well but I'm still not able to playback the picture. The sound works but the playback screen is completely black.
MacBook Pro (Retina) OS X: 10.8.2.
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS6: Version 6.0.2 (072 (MC:264587))
Source Footage: Quicktime (56 gb in one file): Apple ProRes 422, Linear PCM, Timecode.
I also have some smaller clips in this Quicktime Codec: H.264, Linear PCM.
No error messages. Sometimes the program just freezes and I have to force quit it. Or it just won't playback.
It was a entirely fresh install of the software. I'm a member of adobe cloud so I downloaded it from the application manager.
I'm also running photoshop and inDesign which are working just fine. At the time i launched Premiere no other Adobe programs where running. Just programs as: textedit, mail and evernote.
    No third-party codecs installed.
Tried to update Premiere with the latest updates but that didn't do any difference.

  • Resume to black screen after starting intel-virtual-output (Optimus)

    Hi everybody,
On resume my laptop shows a black screen with a single white underscore in the top left area every time I use intel-virtual-output. I can't access any terminals either, I have to do a hard reboot. The problem occurs even if no external monitors are connected when I launch ivo. It also if I kill ivo. However, suspend/resume works properly when not using intel-virtual-output.
I've tried different versions of the xf86-video-driver, including:
    2.99.914-4 from extra
    2.99.914.78 from aur (git version)
    2.99.914.81 from aur (git version)
I also tried setting i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 to no avail.
My computer is an HP ZBOOK 15
    lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK208GLM [Quadro K610M] (rev ff)
I haven't found any suspend/resume bugs specific to launching intel-virtual-output.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

    I have a similar issue.
I also have a ZBook 15, with an extended docking station (the huge one) and I would like to run two additional monitors with it.  One through the docking station's VGA port and one with the docking station's DVI port.
The only way I have succeeded in making the two monitors working is by DISABLING the BIOS option for "hybrid cards" and using the nvidia drivers.  In that case I get horrendous graphics performance (80 fps on glxgears) but all three monitors (two external and the laptop screen) are correctly identified by both the Displays app of Gnome3 and by the xrandr command line tool.
With the "hybrid cards" BIOS option is ENABLED or AUTO, only my VGA monitor is identified.  Graphics performance is excellent, running optirun glxgers returs 3200fps, but the DVI monitor, although connect the same way as before remains blank and neither Displays or xrandr can detect it.
Running intel-virtual-output -f in a separate terminal does not seem to be doing anything special.
    Runing:
    optirun nvidia-settings -c :8
seems to load the nvidia settings (whereas running only  "optirun nvidia-settings" with no additional parameters) complains that "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver"
I have no idea how to activate that extra DVI monitor (tried both DVI ports in case there is a primary or secondary, it doesn't make any difference.  It was in the right DVI port (as you are looking over the docking station when I had it working with the DISABLED hybrid graphics BIOS option))
Do you make any progress on your issue, or would you like to compare notes...?

Every time I power on my laptop it shows black screen.but fan is running and power lights are on. After detaching and reattaching battery several times onece screen turns on and laptop then works smoothly.but after shutting it down again on next day same problem persists. I have already tried power drain out method.but on the next go same problems arises.what to do.

    Hi Anish1,
    Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with black screen in your Lenovo G510 laptop.
As you have mentioned that black screen when turned on, can you hear the windows login sound?
Remove the battery and connect only adapter and check for the issue also connect only battery and check for the issue.
Connect an external monitor and check if the display appears in the external monitor then its a issue with the LCD, if there is no display in the external monitor then it might be issue with the motherboard, hence suggest you to visit the nearest authorised service centre.
Click here for the service centre and select your region.
