Laptop backlight problem

Recently I've been having a problem with my laptop screen. When I try to make it brighter, it stays like that for a few seconds then goes back to how light it was before. Maybe it's a problem with KDE4? Or a hardware problem?

Power management for the screen is off... at the moment I'm running from the mains.
EDIT: This is really weird. It's like the screen is stuck in the middle. If I pull out the power, the screen goes darker, like it should do, and then it goes to the middle. If I put the power back in, the screen goes lighter, then goes back to the middle. Huh?

HP Pavilion laptop backlight problems?

I own pavilion Entertainment dv7-4080us OS MS Win 7 from Oct 2010. I turned off my comp when I left US and two flights to come back home In Swiss when i had to passed 2 secururity check point. When I reached home I turned on my comp, to my surprise, i saw a black screen. I spashed my torch on the screen I could see the icons. I connected my comp to an external moniter of my desktop, I find my comp works perfectly. The light on hp trademark on the lid is burning. My Desktop pc & mobile not play any video and in my laptop no problem

i'm using 30 version of firefox in my Laptop, Desktop & Mobile also but in my Desktop pc & mobile i'm unable to play any video and in my laptop no problem.
So if the prob. in my network so it will be not possible.
i think like earlier some time ago flashgot will stop working in firefox now this same mistake is accures again for video.

IPod backlight problem...

my n73 has a backlight problem.Under a special angle ( there are dark stains.They are HARDLY noticable.

Maybe is the screen. Go to a Nokia Service to check that.

T420: Backlighting problem

Hello everyone, I have a Thinkpad T420 (6 months old) and I think I have a backlight problem. The backlight vanish at the startup of the computer and when I boot in Safe mode. Can anybody helps me ? Thanks !

Hmmmm ... have you tried increasing the brightness? Any on screen display showing the brightness bars?
You can try uninstalling power manager, power management driver and hotkeys package then do a reboot then install all 3 again and see if it helps.

Xfce4-power-manager and laptop-mode-tools + backlight problems.

I don't know which forum it belongs to, so maybe a mod can close the one in the wrong forum.
Out of curiosity, do these two tools conflict with each other? There seems to be some features that do the same thing, ie harddrive spin down time, but I'm not sure if these two will try to kill each other trying to configure the same power settings. If they do conflict, how could I go about disabling the conflicting parts (on either)? laptop-mode-tools claims it needs acpid "for ACPI support", however, acpid seems to be grabbing the standby event and throwing the laptop in standby despite the standby button bound to do nothing in xfce-power-manager. If I take out acpid, does that mean laptop-mode will no longer detect acpi events such as connecting/disconnecting AC power and thus not change modes when its plugged in?
Another problem I've had after installing xfce4-power-manager is that when I use the brightness hotkeys the backlight gets stuck and starts flashing, locking up the system until I force shutdown. However, I can use the brightness plugin without trouble at all. What's causing the power manager to screw up setting the brightness since it clearly seems to work otherwise.

It is easier to close this one and move the other thread over here. Just continue there.
BTW better use the Report button when you want to have a thread of yours moved to another forum. That way it is guaranteed a mod will see this in time. And you never need to cross post.

G530 Backlight Problems

Hi Everyone,
I bought this lenovo back in August 2009, and about a year later it started having these flickering/screen shaking episodes. Currently the screen doesnt shake, but it does go completely black when it's in certain positions relative to the main body of the laptop. It has to be tilted just right, otherwise it'll either flicker a ton, with kind of lines across the screen, or it usually just goes dark. When I look at it at the right angle, I can see the vague outlines of some things that are displayed on the screen, which leads me to think this is a problem with the backlight connection.
Also, when I change the screen angle, it isnt really a smooth rotation; for instance, I will set it to where I want it to be, but it doesn stay in place. Kind of difficult to describe, but I think this may be part of the issue.
Any ideas on whats going on, or a way to fix this(preferably cheap, as Im a poor collegel student) ?

have you tried to re-install/update graphic card & power management drivers?

T430 Backlight Problem

Hi,
I use an external display(such as Displayport), the internal display becomes a black screen but its backlight is staying on.
When i go to the display setting panel by pressing [Windows]+[p], and choose 'Disconnect projector' and choose again 'Only display to projector' (sorry i don't know these exact names) , the internal display backlight is turned off.
Anyone has a problem like above? is there no solutions?

I’m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad T430 is overheating.
If your laptop feels hot and shows any of the problems below, chances are its overheating or getting there:
Fan constantly running and making loud whirring noises
Computer struggling to perform basic tasks like opening a new browser window
Mysterious error messages popping up in random programs
Lines on your laptop screen (a sign your video card is overheating)
System freezing or the dreaded BSOD (blue screen of death)
The laptop abruptly shuts down on its own
It is not uncommon for laptops to overheat because of dust and other debris collecting in the cooling ducts, fans and internal cooling fins over time. Get compressed air and try to blow into vents. Ensure that air vents are not blocked and there is a proper air flow. Also, check the speeds at which the fan is spinning. Start using compatible cooling pads which will help in the flow of cool air into the underside vents of the laptop.
Update BIOS to the latest version and check if system still overheats.

Keyboard Backlighting Problem

Hello,
Recently, if i use the f5 or f6 keys to raise or lower the level of illumination on my laptops keyboard, the semi-transparent window comes up with the horizontal bar and the blocks to indicate brightness level, but has a O with a slash through it underneath the row of blocks, and neither keys have any effect.
I went to system preferences, enabled "illuminate keyboard in low light conditions" and it lit right up. I then tried to use the keys once it was already lit in this manner, and they functioned RIGHT until I uncovered the iSight camera (I covered it to cut off all light).
Any help?

Just to add to eww's observations, it seems to me that the location of the sensor in the upper bezel next to the iSight camera adds to the problems quite a bit. I find myself that the light falling on this point can be quite different from that falling on the keyboard itself. Simply changing the angle of the screen, or altering ones sitting position can produce substantial variations in the behaviour of the backlight. We have high "clerestory" windows in our house for example, and if I sit with my back to them the light hitting the light sensor can be far greater than the light falling on the keyboard itself.
I can see pluses in the location , too, especially on a small keyboard like the 13" one where ones hands would be likely to interefere with illumination levels, but by and large I think the location on the early MBPs under the speaker grids on either side of the keyboard was superior.
Maybe rather than using "blackout" tape, some sort of semi transparent filter material over the sensor would be an option?

MSI GT60 2PC keyboard backlight problem

The keyboard backlight effects are not working for me on this laptop. Only Normal and Gaming work. Breathing, Wave, Dual color and Audio dont work even when it says active layer. Help me with this problem. Thank you

Can you tell what OS are you using, BIOS and EC version and also SteelSeries Engine version?
Have you already try to update the EC firmware and re-install the SteelSeries Engine?

GE70 2PC Win8.1 backlight problem.

I spoke with support but don't have answer yet.
My backlight stop working after 30 minutes. Strange is that restart doesn't help but after night when I power it on, backlight works again but only for about 30 min.
Software shows indicator for different keyboard backlight modes I can change modes in software and switch power on and off on numpad. Software works normal but keyboard stays black.
I'm not sure but it looks like keyboard and screen goes black because inactivity but only screen wake up when I move mouse. Keyboard works but no backlight.
I'm not sure if it always same.
After restart keyboard stays black. Powering off for 15 minutes doesn't helps.
I bought it week ago without system with bios dated 16 or 14 April 2014, I didn't update it yet.

I have installed windows 8.1 with all newest drivers and utilities from msi website. Without BIOS and battery firmware updates.
I'm not sure it's broken or it's some software related issue.
I think it have to be hardware if after restart keyboard doesn't have blacklight but it suddenly appears again after 8 hours of power off.

This problem is annoying because i'm father of twins and I use this laptop only for 2-3 hours per day (late evening).
You must note that before I sent it for RMA I have installed fresh Win 7 64 with all windows update fixes, but without any recommended drivers from windows update (there was one - Intel GPU Driver which i installed when laptop came back from RMA and it was after backlit gone). I used all drivers and all utilities from MSI website. That day back light gone after 3 and half hours in idle. I just left laptop on at 9am and backlight gone before noon. Afternoon I sent laptop for RMA.
Do you have any additional external devices like mouse or headset...?

Anyway if it isn't hardware I have bad feeling about Intel power management (chipset or GPU) and ECO Power Modes from SCM (MSI software)

Hp ProBook 4540s screen backlight problem

In my hp 4540s Probook laptop sometimes the screen backlight does not turn on. But pictures are there on the screen when i see it from different angles. And external monitors work fine.
This happens when,
the display goes to sleep and come back again later, the backlight does not turn on
starting the computer (when powering up, the backlight is already not there)
(in both the above cases pictures are there on the screen without the light)
When this happens, i can get the backlight by moving a magnet several times near the right speeker of the laptop (where the backlight senser is, as i know).
Any suggession is really appriceted as I am suffering from this problem a lot since it often interrupts my studies.
