Laptop battery always on full, 100% when connected to AC

Hi,
I usually use my laptop on AC with battery removed. Last week I used it from battery, then connected the laptop to AC. If I remember correctly battery started to discharge to 90 something percent after a while, but now it is always on full.
acpi -b
Battery 0: Full, 100%
I have the following packages installed:
local/laptop-mode-tools 1.61-2
local/acpi 1.6-1
local/acpid 2.0.16-3
local/linux 3.5.3-1
My question: is it fine to have the battery always on full? Or was it better when it was charging/discharging automatically?
Thanks

Let me clarify myself. When the battery is in place and the laptop is running from AC, sooner or later you will see that the battery is fully charged. When this fully charged status has been accomplished, charging stops and battery starts discharging (let's say from 100% to 95%) then charging starts again. I think that was the way it worked some weeks ago. My experience in this very moment is that battery is reported to be fully charged. Always. No drop from 100%.
I think the charger electronic prevent the battery from overcharge, but I don't know why is the change in the behavior described above. Was it a bug and now it's fixed or now we have a bug.
Anyway, people contradict each other how to prolong the health of a battery, but I found that usually they say if one usually uses a laptop from AC the best thing is to remove the battery when charged to 50-60% and store in a dry place, and from time to time it's advised to charge/discharge it.
Uh... what make is your laptop, for example I'm using a Compaq laptop so my laptop has a big Compaq at the base of the screen and nice big Q on the back.  I wouldn't be surprised if your laptop is a Dell.  Google for product reviews for your laptop:  So, since my laptop is a Compaq and it's a CQ60-420US
I'd type
CQ60-420us battery charge/discharge behavior
or something like that into the address bar for chromium, and then press enter.
EDIT:  The best way to use/store a battery, and you can quote me on this 'cause I took a Electrical engineering class last semester and know what I'm talking about, is to just charge it all the way up and then use it till it's almost out of battery power.  If you charge it when it's at half capacity it will eventually do bad stuff to the battery, or something like that.  Anyway, it's just healthier for the battery to have the chance to fully discharge per every full recharge.  You don't have to let it go all the way to 0%, 'cause your laptop will probably cut off if you do that, so let it get as close to zero as you feel comfortable with.
A good program for keeping an eye on power stuff is wmacpi.  It's what I use, since conky isn't reliable on my hardware when it comes to the battery.  Install it thusly:
packer -S wmacpi
and run it thusly:
$ wmacpi
If you use openbox, like I do, you can add the following line to your ~/.config/openbox/autostart file.
wmacpi &
Here's an image of wmacpi showing a laptop being run off AC power.

  • Encore WT8 battery always shows at 100%

The battery icon at the bottom right of the screen always shows the battery to be at 100%, up until the battery is drained and the tablet powers off. How do I fix this?

Did you try to calibrate the battery in the past?
To calibrate the battery, you should firstly discharge the battery until its would be fully empty. Then recharge the battery again till its fully charged.
This procedure should be repeated two, three times in the row
But note: the tablet cannot be powered on by pressing the power button if the battery power is completely exhausted. Its recommended to charge the battery pack by connection the AC adaptor for 30min before turning on the power.

Is there any way to solve this problem?

Same problem here. This is how you can make it go away.
Go to Control Panel > Taskbar & Start Menu.
Then on the Taskbar menu hit "Customize" That will show you the current items in your taskbar. You should have one that says "<no title>" - that is the MTP Device. Click on the "Hide when inactive" and change it to "Always hide".
Still, I don't think it addresses the issue directly so if anyone can tell us more about this problem it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Laptop battery health isn't 100% anymore

    Hey everyone.
I just checked my laptops battery health, and it's now 73 percent, and not 100% anymore. I don't know what to do to boost it up to 100% anymore
Please help me. I don't want to spend money on a new laptop battery. Do I have to???

You can't. The battery's maximum charge level will decline with use. Since you've provided no other relevant information about the battery it's impossible to provide any more assistance.

  • Battery always says full, but is it?

The battery indicator is always full when it is connected to the computer, the wall charger, and the Pioneer car adapter. The problem is, when I disconnect it from any of the 3 sources, it instantly shuts down. When I reconnect it, the apple icon comes up, them goes back to charging only to get right back to the battery full indicator.
A few times, I can get 30 minutes out of it if I am lucky before it shuts down again.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

okay thanks for the help so far.
I ran the diagnostics like you suggested, here goes:
    ID = 0X57
    VCC = 796 (4864mV)
    BATT = 528 (4236mV)
    ACC = 255
The ChargingADC Test says 0, with the other numbers changing the 2 times I have done it.
    Ibat says Pass
I have had this ipod since June of 06. I use it 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, and very little on the weekends.
The battery charge indicator in the upper right corner ALWAYS says fully charged, but as soon as I disconnect the power, the screen "melts".
I don't have my 1500 songs in my itunes library, but my videos, and photos are on my pc. I don't want to have to burn all my cds again, that took quite some time the first time.
If I have to replace the battery, I don't care, but I dont want to lose my songs. But, should I have to replace the battery already?

  • Fans on full speed when connected to TB-display

Whenever I'm using my thunderbolt display, the fans in my MBP (early 2011-model) goes up. Every 10 minute or so they ar on full speed (6200rpm), no matter what. It happens even when I'm not using any software, just watching my desktop
When checking iStat or Activity Monitor everything seems normal except for the fans.
Typical scenario every 10 minutes or so:
    CPU:
    User 3%
    System 2%
    Idle 95%
    Fans (both left and right):
    5800 - 6200 rpm
    System:
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)
Solutions I have tried without success:
    - reset SMC
    - reset NVRAM and PRAM
    - clean install of OS
    - both open and closed lid
    Any tips/help?
    H.

The temperature is about 145ºF like yours, so maybe it's normal. I have tried with both the lid closed and open.
What I find strange, is that my colleagues (all with basically the same set-up as me: MBP and TB-displays) dont have this problem. They have both older and newer MBPs than I have. We all work with the same kind of work and software.
Yesterday I also tried to connect my MBP to a normal PC-monitor (minidisplay -> VGA) and still the fans went crazy. I can't remember having any issue with before, and as I said: I am the only one in my office that have this issue.

  • My brand new laptop battery doesnt charge upto 100%

my battery does not charge upto 100% its stops at 99% after hours of charging. what do i do?

    Hi @ekezie
Welcome to the HP support Forums!
I understand that your notebook battery will not charge to 100%, I am happy to assist.
Since it is new did you interrupt the charge cycle at all. On many notebooks there are for lack of a better word charge thresholds to prevent the battery from charging when it is already above a certain level when first plugged in. This is to  prevent repeated short charge cycles, which can reduce battery life. That may be the sort of thing that is happening.
However I would recommend taking a look at this page, and running the tests.

  • Sql always on full sync when creating availability group

    hi,
i am creating AOAG in SQL 2012 and i am a little confused as to how the sync is created.  when you setup the avail group the options you have are full, join and something else.  We are doing the full.
i have a database that's 700gb in size so i did a backup to meet the pre reqs of creating the aoag.  i then started the process and it shows a list of tasks its performing.  once of the tasks is backing up the db before it syncs.
if i look at the backup it shows a size of 217GB.  why do i have a difference in the size.  does it do something different while creating the AOAG?
    Thanks
    phill

    Hi phillbl,
According to your description, the backup operation copies the data in the database to the backup file. The backup contains only the actual data in the database and not any unused space. Therefore, the backup is usually smaller than the database itself.
Usually, in SQL Server AlwaysOn Availabity Group Wizards, you can use
Select Initial Data Synchronization page to specify a network share in order to create and access backups, then synchronize full initial data with secondary database.
If you are unable to use the wizard to perform full initial data synchronization ,you need to manually prepare a Secondary database for an Availability Group , as other post, you should manually restore a recent database backup of the primary
database using RESTORE WITH NORECOVERY, and then restore each subsequent log backup using RESTORE WITH NORECOVERY.

  • Macbook Pro Heats Up / Fans Go Full Blast when connected to external HDD

This is something strange that started happening recently. Whenever I connect my 120GB Western Digital Passport, the fans start going fast and it starts heating up (not to a dangerous level). Time Machine is turned off and spotlight is not indexing.
There are three partitions: FAT32, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) [Time Machine Partition], Mac OS Journaled.
The FAT32 partition is used with my Vista machine too.
Any ideas before I go ahead and start reformatting the FAT32 partition?

    Hi (ravipatel)-
When you plug the drive in to the Mac it will draw power from the USB port to run. Some drives pull quite a bit and put additional strain on the power supply thus heating it up and causing the fans to run louder.
Have you tried using a powered USB hub with this drive?

  • Ipod nano freezes pc when connected

    Hi,
I bought a brand new I pod 2 weeks ago, loaded the current itunes version and after a few hick ups itunes loaded the music on my ipod. Now a few days later my computer totally freezes as soon as I connect the ipod to the pc. I tried everything, setting back the ipod, deinstall and reinstall itunes, even an older version of itunes, tried all available usb ports (all 2.0 versions)...nothing. I also blocked the firewall and the antivirus guard...nothing.
still full stop when connected. itunes recognizes my ipod on the screen but then it stopps. I have to restart the pc to keep on working with it. I also tried other pc's. An apple one worked fine with my ipod, another pc recognized it on the F drive and did not freeze it so I don't think the little beauty itself is the problem.
Any idea to help my restless soul... ;-)???
    PC   Windows XP

OK, here I am back again.
My ipod was restored by my friend who used an apple computer with the latest version of itunes 7.....
So I started from scratch, installed an earlier version of itunes (6.0.2 or so), put my music on, connected my ipod (no freezing yet) but it immediatelly asked me to use this ipod with the new version 7.0.2. I then upgraded the existing to 7.0.2 and then...as soon as I connected my ipod it recognized it, told me that it is originally communicating with another bibliothek and asked if I wanted to synchronize or only load the bought items etc...and...
did not load any songs on the ipod and....
Freeeeeeeeezzzzzzeeeee !!!! I could not move any mouse or curser on my pc anymore. What do you mean, should I throw away my computer...it looks like is definetly not the ipod.
