Laptop Battery Failure

This is a weird situation:
My Macbook's battery has ceased to charge of function at all as a battery. It's only a year old, light use. Tried zapping PRAM, no luck. That's weird enough.
Checked my Macbook Pro - same problem!! Different types of batteries entirely.
I have never encountered this once, let alone 2 at the same time.
Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do?
Thanks!!

Hmmm...
Well I don't really have any other suggestions other than to leave the two batteries sit for a day or two without charging and then try again. I was in a similar pickle once and giving it a day or two's rest fixed the problem.
Hopefully, another user passes by this thread and has a bit more information or help to offer.

  • Laptop Battery Recall

We will soon get details about a laptop battery recall due to FIRE. I already had to send mine back due to failure, but that is better than FIRE.
    Stay tuned!

    For what it's worth...
Here is an Apple bulletin regarding defective batteries so check it out to see if your battery(s) are affected. When I first reviewed this article, I removed and inspected my battery for the first time after more than 4-months of ownership and sure enough, mine was in the list.
    Excerpt:
"The affected batteries have model number A1175 and a 12-digit serial number that ends with U7SA, U7SB or U7SC. To view the model and serial numbers located on the bottom of the battery, you must remove the battery from the computer. The battery serial number is located above the barcode. See photos below. Only batteries within the noted serial number ranges need to be exchanged."

  • SCCM Report for Laptop Battery Condition

    Good morning,
We are in a situation where we're needing to monitor conditions of laptop batteries in the school district I manage.   I have added the laptop batteries class(Win32_Battery) and have all required/requested information checked under this class.  This
has been set for a week, so all devices should be inventoried by now.
How do you recommend my getting a report together that shows battery condition/etc?  The fields I would like to see are ones such as:
    Win32_Battery
    battery status
    design capacity
    design voltage
    Expected Life
    Error Description
    Full Charge Capacity
Really anything that will help us in knowing which laptops batteries need replacing.
I am not that knowledgeable about SQL reporting/SCCM reporting, so any help in getting this is greatly appreciated.  Any resources that you can point me in for getting more familiar with creating my own reports would be greatly appreciated.  I
don't even know where to begin.
    Thank you!

Good you have added the class. Please use the following link for the detailed information about Win32_Battery:

Last Full Charge should guide your decision on replacement.

  • My IPad1 has completely shut down. It has no power. I have tried a restart and a reset with no results. I have tried charging through the keyboard dock, the wall charger and my Macbook Pro with no results. Is this a complete battery failure?

My IPad 1 has lost complete power. I have attempted a restart and a reset without results. I have attempted to charge with the keyboard dock, the wall charger and connecting to my MacBook Pro. Again no results just a black screen. Is this a battery failure? I am in Mexico for another 6 weeks and hoping to find a solution.

    Cathi-
How long did you have the iPad connected to the wall charger?  A completely dead iPad battery may not work until it has been charged for some time - maybe a half hour or more.  I suggest leaving it on charge overnight, and then trying the reset.
The MacBook may be able to charge the iPad if it doesn't go to sleep, but it will be extremely slow.  the Wall charger is definitely the best way.

  • KDE battery monitor not detecting laptop battery

I am using KDE on my Dell XPS laptop. The default battery monitor that comes with KDE installation is not detecting the laptop battery. It is showing "Battery: Not Present". Because of this I am unaware about the time remaining on my battery. Any solutions please?

Have you tried rebooting *twice*? I've seen this issue but I've always resolved it by rebooting and then rebooting again. (The system goes rather insane on the first reboot and I always think either my hardware is completely screwed or my install of Arch is twisted far beyond the point of insanity. But then on the second boot, it calms down, finds the hardware and carries on quite happily. I've no idea why.)

  • ATI driver free vs laptop battery

With the driver xf86-video-ati laptop battery lasts me half that with catalyst. Any ideas to save energy.

    Try (as root)
    echo profile > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method
    echo low > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile
If that causes problems, replace low with medium.

  • CMOS Errors/ battery failure in a Satellite L45

I have a Satellite L45-S7423 laptop that is approximately 1.5 yrs old.  To give a bit of history on this baby..a week before the warranty ran out, the computer stopped working so we took it in to be repaired and it got a new motherboard and I believe power supply.
Fast forward 6 months to now, and as of last night I have started getting a black screen on boot up that goes to American Megatrends.  There are a bunch of self checks (I assume thats what they are) check out as ok and then it beeps, and goes to a second page where at the bottom it says "CMOS battery low, and something about the date and time not being set.  I have options for F1 to load defaults and F2 to enter set up.  Pressing F1 loads Vista properly.   The computer now thinks it is permanently March 4 2008...but the time runs as you would expect.  It just is in accordance to either 11:00 or 12:00 when I reboot.
I have noticed today after the reboot, that my antivirus vault settings have now been lost and I also started having issues with opening websites (security certificates not valid so it says or it completely blocks a regularly used site from opening).  Since the AV isnt working properly anymore I disconnected from the wireless network I use and turned off the wireless capability.
I run this computer almost non-stop, it has a chill pad after the October issue, and is updated regularly.  I do run down the main battery at least once or twice a week and recharge it completely.  Most of the time the laptop is on AC power though.  This issue came up after it was unplugged during house chores and my husband and I both forgot to plug it back in.  At most it was unplugged for a little over 2 hours.   I plugged it back in for 24 hours, and the most recent reboot still brings up the CMOS message.  There was an SD memory card in the card reader when I rebooted which I had forgotten about.  The only other oddity is that these problems started after a windows update ran on 3/13.
What can I do for this?  Is it something I can fix by replacing the CMOS battery? It is NOT under the main battery where it was suggested to me that it might be....does this mean its on the motherboard?  If I press f2 for set up, what will happen? I also have a prompt to press f12 for BBS POPUP.  Thanks for your help and time.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

OK, I attempted to disassemble the laptop following the "destructions" that were provided in an earlier post.   This portion of the project went extremely well...the directions were really easy to follow.
The bad news is as follows....  I found the CMOS battery.  Either Toshiba, or the manufacturer of the mother board, american megatrends, soldered the stupid thing to the friggin motherboard.  I realized that this is above and beyond my level of skill, so I ran down the street to a small computer repair shop nearby and swallowed what little pride I have left.   I asked them if in fact my suspicions were correct in that the CMOS battery is soldered to the motherboard and they looked at it and went....EWWWW.
I truly appreciate their honesty b/c they wont even touch this because they do not want to fry the motherboard.  They reccommend that I contact Toshiba at this point.  I will keep these folks in mind if I need computer repair work done in the next few years...
The experience was not a total loss to me though, because I now have a very good working knowledge of what different things look like in the laptop.  Even better, I put it back together and everything that did work, still works...haha.   One thing I did notice is that the repair place failed to replace all the screws...
I appreciate all the advice.  I did try taking the laptop battery out and running the computer for several days on just AC power...in 5 days it went from March 4, 2008 to March 6, 2008.   I will post an update when I hear from Toshiba...

  • How to install new laptop battery.

Using HP Support Assistant, my HP G61 110SA laptop battery wouldn't recalibrate so it told me to replace it.  I have now bought a new one but can't find any instructions anywhere on HOW to install it!  Plus, should I fully charge before installation etc..  Any help, advice, info and especially links to instructions would really be appreciated.  I'm using Windows7 64 bit.
    thanks.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

The procedure to remove and replace the battery can be found in chapter 4, page 4-7.

  • IPhone won't turn on... possibly a sudden battery failure?

    Hi,
So my iPhone was working fine, i received a call, put it down... but next time I go to check something I push the home button and nothing happens.
I've tried turning it on - nothing, charging it - nothing, taking the sim card out etc - nothing.
I tried calling too, and just goes to voicemail.
I bought it off a work colleague as a replacement for a lost one, so I have no idea of the serial number, and its definately out of warranty.
Any idea what the problem is? Feels like a sudden and total battery failure, but I don't even know how I'd get that sorted/replaced!
    Please help me someone!!
    Thanks, Matt

Does it charge if you connect to the adapter? If yes, let it charge for about 20min. then connect in recovery mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • What is the best charge/discharge regime for the laptop battery?

I have a HP G71 340US laptop with 12 cell battery of 8800 mAh design capacity.
It is clear, that keeping the laptop plugged, and always having 100% charged battery is not the most healthy regime for the battery.
I have found from the web that permanently charging and discharging the battery (like charging form 9% to 100% then back to 9% and so on) is also far not the most healthy regime for the battery.
So my question is: what is the most healthy regime for battery charging/discharging, assuming that the AC power source is always available?
It seems there in so software which can support such regime automatically, as charging cannot be stopped programmable, but maybe there is a software which can report corresponding alerts, informing that it is time to start charging or to start discharging?
    This question was solved.

  • Laptop battery odd behavior

I recently purchased the HP PROBOOK 430 G1 13.3 128GB i3-4010u. I'm using it primarily for college for light workloads since I have a custom built PC I used for extensive tasks. However, even with the light workloads, I'm experiencing this odd behavior from my laptops battery. The laptop battery meter goes to 8 percent randomly. I have to put my laptop to sleep then wake it up or reset it then it returns to the normal battery levels. Again there's no pattern to it, it's completely random. I have obversed it since July 22nd when I first got it and got nothing. It probably happened 10-15 times. I don't want to send it in yet for a repair since I can't replicate the problem.
I'm using HPFanControl by troubadix at constant medium fan level so I know it's not heating issues. I also never go above 50c
I also ran the battery diagnostic in BIOS and it gave me no errors.
I also tried to discharged my laptop and it still happened.
    Help?

Can I always Plug in my laptop in AC Adaptor or not?

    Hi,
    1. Without battery: It depends, if your area has very stable electricity source then ok, otherwise you need some sorts of backup (battery) or UPS. I actually use UPS in my house because I still have few desktops.
